  • Open Question: Do you agree that Israel is in violation of international law and is committing clear war crimes?
Summary of Conclusions: 1. During "Operation Cast Lead" Israel has not only publicly expressed but also effectively demonstrated its unwillingness to distinguish between civilians and combatants on the one hand and between civilian objects and military objectives on the other. Acting upon a legally false claim that anything allegedly affiliated with Hamas – be it a home, school, mosque or a chicken farm – "is a legitimate military target," Israel attempts to create a legal façade for its unlwaful attacks on the Gaza Strip. Further, by disguising its offensive in the form of claimed self-defence, Israel seeks to legitimise the killing of almost 700 Palestinians, the vast majority of whom were civilians (including many children), and the injury of more than 3,000, in addition to the destruction of hundreds of homes and the damage of thousands. 2. This cynical manipulation of the letter and spirit of international law has made way for an international discourse which risks reinterpreting and therefore compromising the most fundamental principles of international law for the sake of political interests. This in turn has resulted in the continuing failure of the international community, including the High Contracting Parties of the Geneva Conventions, the UN Security Council and General Assembly and the EU to effectively engage their own clearly defined legal obligations to ensure respect for international humanitarian law and amounts to tacit acquiescence to Israel's calculated and systematic disregard for international humanitarian law. 3. The cost of international inaction is being born by a terrorised Palestinian civilian population who has no safe haven. It is therefore necessary for the international community to reaffirm its commitment to the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law and to create the necessary political will to take effective measures against those who ridicule and blatantly violate them. 4. Any genuine international intervention that aims at achieving a just and durable solution to the conflict must above all acknowledge international law as the basis of any agreement and address the root cause of the conflict, the Israeli occupation. For the full online report, see: http://gazasiege.org/docs/jan09/Legal_Brief_Gaza_Al_Haq_Jan2009.pdf [This is all after establishing that Israel's 18 month embargo is also in breach of the Geneva Convention, and that Hamas' firing of rockets into civilian territoy is in breach too - despite the Palestinians' legal right to resist the occupier militarily] But please do stick to the question.

  • Open Question: Can anybody give me an idea for a cognitive psychology project?
Hi, we have this project for psychology and we need to come up with some kind of invention. I guess its any kind of invention as long as it hasn't been invented yet, and of course, something creative. These are the topics that should be addressed: ⇔ What type of "machine" will this be and what will it be used for? ⇔ Will it sense its environment? (How and why) ⇔ WIll it be conscious? (How and why) ⇔ Compare and contrast its processing to human processing ⇔ Explain its memory capabilities and applications. ⇔ Explain how it will use feedback to learn from its environment. ⇔ How will it interact with humans? ⇔ What type of heuristic abilities will it have and how will it acquire them? ⇔ Will it have the capacity for creativity? ⇔ Are there any possible moral, legal, or ethical considerations? ⇔ Who will this machine be marketed to? ⇔ How will this machine be profitable for IBM? Any ideas would be appreciated. You don't have to worry about the list up there. I just want any kind of idea for an invention. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME ! I'd appreciate if you give me any of your ideas. THANKS ! :DD

My problem is, the closest Post Office is 20 minutes away (I live in a remote area of Colorado) and I do not have transportation. In any case, I know that my postage rate would be 94 cents. So, can I just affix three 41 cent stamps to the envelope and ship it through my mailbox? I'm just mailing a birthday card that contains a letter inside it. Standard card-sized envelope that weighs less than an ounce. Also, will it be a problem if there is no return address? I will include my name, but do not want to include the address. Thanks!

  • Open Question: Dog Experts, Please Answer These 3 Questions?
I have a puppy I got when he was about 10 weeks old. I have 3 issues with him that I need addressed. Please help of you're a dog expert. #1- My dog barks incessantly in any situation where he's not getting his way...(he wants people food you're eating, he wants off a leash to play with other dogs, he wants out of his crate, etc.) And I hear the same thing from every self-proclaimed "dog expert" I've asked about it; "barking is a learned behavior for dogs, and make sure you're not reenforcing it by rewarding his barking". The only problem with that, is he's barked like crazy since the day I got him at 10 weeks old, and 2ndly, I GO OUT OF MY WAY to NOT reward the behavior by giving him his way, paying extra attention to him when he does it, etc....any second opinions? #2- My dog's breed is a Blue Lacy...for those unfamiliar with the breed, Blue Lacy's males are suppose to get between about 45 and 55 pounds. Well, he's almost 4 months, and he's already 33 pounds, and my vet is laughing at the notion a puppy that size will only get to 55 pounds. What is a general ratio or means of determining how big your puppy will end up based on age vs. weight? #3- My dog got a rabies vaccine, and a few days after, I noticed he has a circular rasied bump about the size of a quarter underneath his fur at the site of the injection. My vet says it's a fairly common reaction, and is likely to go down in a matter of a few weeks to a few months, but I sure would feel better if someone ELSE could confirm that is true.

  • Open Question: Can you tell me what you think about this story?
I found this story about a member in a local church, I am not a member of the Church. I am just wondering what people think of this. This was a paper bulletin of the church, and I typed it up. Thoughts? Mormon Missionary saved by the grace and love of Jesus Christ The Lord challenged Nephi Smith from birth. His Joseph Smith worshipping parents were so addled by idolatry that they named him after a mythical character from the Book of Mormon and after their false prophet, Joseph Smith. Smith’s parents were both missionaries of the Mormon church when they met. They were apparently so in love with each other that they married on their mission and Mrs. Smith went into labour in the Mormon Temple. At the age of 19 Smith was scheduled to go on a mission to convert people to Mormonism. He left behind his parents and his 4 girlfriends back in Moroni, Utah and set out for Topeka, Kansas. On his first day he was scheduled to go to the house of Mrs. Rutherford to tell her about the Book of Mormon. He had heard a lot about Mrs. Rutherford, about how she was very difficult to convert and how she herself had converted a few of the missionaries to Christianity. Nonetheless, Smith was determined to be the one to convert her. With his good looks, his immeasurable charm and charisma no one could resist. Before knocking on her door he said a prayer to Joseph Smith and asked him to help him to guide this woman to him. When Smith knocked on her door it was only moments before she answered. Mrs. Rutherford invited him in to talk and have tea. Smith could already see that this was going his way; he was going to convert her. They sat down for tea and he took out a Book of Mormon and was preparing to teach her about it when he saw something out of the corner of his eye. It was a King James Bible 1611 and it had the most wonderful light surrounding it. He asked Mrs. Rutherford what that was it was. She replied that it was a King James Bible, the authorised version, and not the one made up by Joseph Smith Jr. Smith could not help but ask if he could read it. He knew he shouldn’t, and that he could be excommunicated for reading it but there was a something going on inside him that would just not let it go. Of course Mrs. Rutherford gladly allowed him to read it. Smith was so moved by what he was reading that he kept on reading. By the time he finished the whole thing 12 hours had passed. He knew right then and there that he was just saved by the grace and love of Jesus Christ. First thing tomorrow he would go to his mission president and resign from the church. He would then go to the courthouse to change his name to Paul Jones. It was late now and Mrs. Rutherford had long since gone to bed. He went into the kitchen for a drink of water and there was a note addressed to him from Mrs. Rutherford. It said “See you at Church on Sunday” along with the address of Salvation in Christ Evangelical Baptist Church. He smiled and left. He had been saved.
