  • Open Question: Is it unrealistic that there will ever be an Asian Victoria's Secret model?
Asian as in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, whatever... because as you know of course there hasn't been one yet. Do you think they'll ever be able to find one, and why or why not?
  • Open Question: Beautiful mixed race women?
Hi :) So, I roleplay a lot and this time I'm gonna play a woman who's of very mixed heritage. I want to go with an exotic look that's not quite middle-eastern but not quite anything else. I've been looking for pictures of models or actresses that would provide a good image of what she sort of looks like. Problem is, I don't know that many celebrities to begin with... So, I ask you, what's a reasonably attractive woman of either hispanic, middle-eastern, south-east Asian or other non-white, non-black backgrounds? She doesn't need to be gorgeous, in fact, I'd rather she weren't but her face should have personality, or be beautiful in a more unique way. As guidance, think Morena Baccarin, Torri Higginson, Gina Torres, Rosario Dawson... Thanks all for your help. Women who are not American are preferable too. I don't care where they're from and what they've done so long as they have the right look for my game :)
  • Resolved Question: Can someone edit/revise/proofread this poem for me? ?
I need someone to help me shread this poem apart with all kinds of corrections. Writing in verse is hard, and I'm not good at English. The speaker is a therapist who tells her patient, an Asian mother who is hopeless about her shaky relationship with her Asian-American Daughter, that her problem is solvable, so she goes into a tale with this moral, "Every problem has a solution." ----- Every Problem has a Solution So I had this one man… I think, by the name of Dan? Who came to my office years ago… I remember he had this fro… Dan was a cheerful type of guy, If you look at him in the eye, You know he was pretty high, He was someone who shoots for the sky. Every morning, he would wake up with a smile, He would strut to work like a model in style. If you were not familiar with him. You wouldn’t think he’s ever grim. But he was a guy who was distressed about everything. When a simple thing went wrong, it felt like a bee sting. Like one time he lost his shoe. He tried to construct another shoe, Using only tissue. Poor Dan, he put himself in so much trouble. He often overreacts and makes himself become like rubble. So one time he accidentally cut his thumb, and immediately his heart went numb. He tried to get a device. That would help heal his paper cut slice. But he couldn’t think of anything to get rid of the pain, The cut had run inside his vein. So he rummaged in his drawer, Scanned his whole bedroom floor, Checked desperately behind the door, For something to ease the sore. He plopped on top of his bed, Staring sadly at his finger that bled, Eating chocolate as he dread, About his injury running red. “Should I get some tape? To put the cut back in shape? Or should I get a pin? No, it would’ve been as painful as it had been!” He finally got some glue, Put it on a tissue, Thought it would stick together his cut, But it didn’t even work somewhat… So he tried to knit the cut back together, That also didn’t work altogether. He paced to an fro in his room, His face anguished and in deep gloom, Trying to nurse the agonizing infection, And then he found something to make the cut fade, Something to put on top: a band-aid. See, he didn’t need to invent anything, Or look for something different. His answer was always right in front of him, To mend his problem in a whim.
  • Resolved Question: name help please!!!!!?
I'm stuck on the naming of my characters in a book...I know i already asked a similar question on the same book yesterday but i have more ideas. k...which name suites these guys, boy 1 is 15, blond blue eyes a bit nerdy, homosexual, likes to knit and write poetry. boy 2 is asian-chinese (so black hair, brown eyes tanned skin) also 15, straight, half and half popular and nerd, wears rectangular glasses, outgoing, likes to play video games and cook. the name i have in mind is oliver, (oliver sun for boy 2 and oliver bentley for boy 1) if you think it suits boy 2 then I had the name jared in mind for boy 1 and if you think it suits boy 1 i had leo in mind for boy 2 then i need a name for a girl she is also 15, she has a crush boy 1 but dates boy 2 a few months after she finds out boy 1 is gay. both the boys are her best friends at the high school she moves to from maine (i don't know what state the school is in) (the school is called south hawk school of art, because it is a specialized art school which is the reason she goes there) the girl has brunette hair and hazel eyes, she is down to earth, unpopular, skinny, average height, half and half shy and outgoing, she likes theatre, sewing, volleyball she is very clumsy...i think the name esme (ez-may) suits her but i already wrote a story with an esme and people will call me a twilight copy cat...the girl basically looks like these people: http://www.gulum.net/model/resimler/ellen-page-1024x768-28467.jpg http://ima.dada.net/image/4816015.jpg some names i like(not necisarily for her) Penelope Jasmine(Jazz) Shelley Zoe Hazel(but its old) Esme Holly Tally Talia Amber Caprica Paige Tibby Kiwi Sophie Seville Saskia Juno Jezebel Paige I also need(could be names from above) mom roommate brother thanks so much in advance ;) ~Hannah
  • Voting Question: Interracial Dating (I'm a Black Woman)?
I live in Los Angeles, CA and it is a very strange place to date. I am very attractive (former model), 5'8", 138 lbs, curvy, smart, funny, accomplished, independent, etc. What I don't understand is why certain men seem to be afraid to ask me out. I've heard everything from a) "You're too beautiful;" b) "You're too independent;" and c) "You may not come off as being interested in these types of men." Until recently, I was not being asked out at all. But, something is really bothering me lately. There are a few blacks guys that ask me out, but they are 100% not my type! Well, I take that back. They may have the preppy thing down but I'm not attracted to them physically. The white men that ask me out are really, really short. Same with the East Indian guys. The thing that is bothering me is that a friend of mine who is Asian tends to get all the guys that are my type. She's definitely a flirt and puts herself out there like she has no shame but the thing is, I always have more in common with these guys. Don't get me wrong, she's attractive and all but they seem to want to date her simply because she's Asian. Most of the guys she dates have a history of dating and/or befriending mostly Asians. It borders on fetishisms or something. The last guy she dated had three other brothers who only dated Asians and two of his brothers adopted little girls from China. Kind of spooky to me but... I don't know, I guess I'm just confused by the fact that she seems to be getting all the guys that would be right for me. She's a nice person, but it's as if I simply don't exist - and, based on what others have said, I'm just as attractive as her or more so. Is it that white men - and really, all men who I am attracted to (you know, Gerard Butler, Morris Chestnut types) - just aren't attracted to black women at all? Are black women viewed as not favorable dates/partners/wives? I'm confused. Any advice would be great!
  • Resolved Question: Oil and Lotion to make Shiny Skin?
I am often amazed by model's shiny skin, especially that of Gisele Bundchen on the V magazine. I am tired of tanning myself. I know lotions and oils of different brand gives different effects. I just used Johnson's baby oil and it is not very good. It softens the skin but does not really give my skin a coat of glow. I used another brand of baby oil and it worked better. I am asian and I have dry skin... Can you provide me a list of popular brands that gives the skin a good shine? Many oil give a sudden glow effect but then disappears. Are there any cosmetic oil that lasts long too? Please no glitter and shimmer! Thanks

  • Resolved Question: American Muscle Cars vs. Japanese Rice Burner. Which will you pick to drive and why?
With the new Fast and Furious movie coming out in 2009, many are hyped about it. As some fans already know, the movie is going to contain both muscles and riced cars. So which will you pick if you got the chance to drive one, and why? Also, what car will you pick? The New Fast and Furious (2009) Car pics, http://www.fastandfurious4.co.uk/2007/09/14/fast-and-furious-4-movie-cars/ Muscle Car Definition "Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high performance automobiles. Many variations have also been used, such as rice rocket for Japanese sport bikes. More contemporary use of the term rice burner, along with the prefix rice, has taken on an alternate pejorative meaning for an automobile that has been modified to give impression of high performance, but does not necessarily have any high-performance capabilities. This practise is in direct contrast to the 'stealth' or 'sleeper' style of automotive modification, where a vehicle may have major performance modifications, but the appearance remains similar to that of a stock model. In this manner, the appellation can apply to any vehicle regardless of country of origin". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_burner Japanese Riced Car http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f292/bilalkmazhar/Cars/2Fast2Furious-NissanSkyline.jpg Japanese Muscle Car http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i166/f430spiderv8/Spyker%20C12/Nissan%20GT%20R/nissan_gt_r_proto_2005_01.jpg

  • Resolved Question: To all girls- do you think that asian men are really uncomfortably pervy?
i have the unofrtunate luck of being born with olive skin and dark brown hair. i am also (i have been told) very attractive and striking looking. i was a model but now i have quite that business due to the pressures of ebing skinny. many asian men think i may be asian, but then italians think im italian, mexicans think im mexican etc. never ever do i get harrased as badly or perved on as uncomfortably and down right scarily as i do by south east asian men. they often try to touch me, in nightclubs they will cross the road to talk to me, they have tried to bundle me into their cars. i am scared to go out wearing makeup now because i live in a town where there are a lot of south east asian men and if i go out looking nice i am often 10 mins late getting to where i want to be trying to avoid these men. i have spoken to a few of my other olive skinned friends who have also said they suffer from the same things. but my white friends say they do not notice it. nights out often end up with me in tears because i have been surrounded by asian men everywhere i go. i know you think i am over exagerating or maybe i go out wearing a thong or something but i can tell you that is not the case. your just going to have to take my word on this one. the most common form of perving i get are stares, and road crossing to stare at me trying to tlak to me and pointing me out to their friends to try and tlak to me. i wanted to know if other people have noticed this to be a quality of asian men and how they have dealt with it. so far i try not to wear make up unless i am out wiht my husband, obviously wearing tight jeans/ heels or skirts etc are out of the question unless i am out with my hubby and i try to keep my head down, and draw as little attention as possible to myself. i know i may get a lot of hatemail for this, but its the truth hi i am 20 and i live in the UK. i was adopted so do not know my ethinic background unfortunately. i dont have a problem from italian or latino men, or white men, they are very complementarily. they look but not stare, and they dont try and make me feel uncomfortable or harass me. only ever indian/ pakistani/ bangladeshi men. i have been to tailand and going back again the men there were fine, i dont have any probs with oriental men either. they are making my life hell. i dont think unless you have olive skin and dark hair, and come into contact with asian men in your town etc you would know what it is like o yea sorry i must take tis opportunity tosay not asian men are the same, i once saw a guy at my gym who did not harrass me and perv to make me eel uncomfortable. there was a man down the road from where we used to live wo was also ok, but he was afganistani. so yeah, there are obviously some, but considering they really stick out in my mind as being the only two... i think iv made my point. insult me if you want to... but its the truth. i dont care wat you say to me, i just want people to realise what is happening and they cant do this to girls they find attractive. it probably stems from how their dads treat their mums and other women, lack of respect for women etc.

  • Resolved Question: Why do people worship the rich?
It's not just Republicans, many Democrats do too. Everyone wants to be like Paris Hilton and live that lifestyle. Everyone wants a big house, fancy car and all that. Most people earn a good wage, but want to live in a big house that sucks up all their money. At their companies, they devise ways to take jobs away from Americans, knowing their own kids won't be able to find anywhere to work. That's why they have to live with them or get a check every month to pay rent and other bills. My brother worships rich people and makes excuses for them all the time, even though he still lives at home. A co-worker of mine has loads of credit card debt because her idol is Paris Hilton and MTV is a guide for her life. These financial guys give themselves millions in bonuses when their companies almost went down! The Yankees are paying their players $20 million plus a year in a down economy. There's a difference between smart, elitist greed, and dumb greed, and this is dumb greed. Hospitals bill outrageous amounts when their business model clearly does not reflect the economic reality of the towns they reside in. Any retail or fast food worker can take a class and get hired at a hospital. How much longer can doctors, pharmaceutical companies and health care administrators bankrupt the majority of poor people who don't have health insurance in order to run their mega-bloated healthcare industries? Doctors and drug reps live like gods and are treated like gods when people clearly cannot afford their services any more! All these MBA holders...accountants...financial types...don't know shit. Hard times are ahead. It's time for the government to straighten out the economy and get it to work, or we may have some Asian, European or Middle Eastern foreign magnates taking over our companies and doing it for us.

  • Resolved Question: Is America really that diverse?
If it's supposed to be....like a salad bowl or melting pot (whatever that means), why are there no blacks, hispanics, and asians, indians, or middle easterns, etc on main stream media? Most TV models I see are white or of anglo saxon race. If they accept diversity, how will they expect to progress or improve without a mixed variety in the commercial actors/actresses, TV programes for kids. Okay, some or alot have/teach diversity but often times it's not enough. Plus, how come we don't see those PSA/PDA commercials anymore? You know where they speak aobut embracing one another. Each one teach one. Everywhere else, I guess there's improvement, but why not on TV? Can you imagine a commerical featuring black, asian hispanic, indian, etc kids singing and praising together with the slogan over it titled "America the beautiful"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPMazd-GX3U&yt I think Gap kids contest recently are doing good.

Here's my pic: http://i44.tinypic.com/okwf2s.jpg Can you tell me if I'm "high fashion" or if I have that "exotic" look? I'm 1/2 Japanese 1/2 White but people tell me they didn't think I had any asian in me. -_- Thanks =]
  • Resolved Question: Black stockings lame? ?
I wore a black, white and gray/silver knee length dress with black heels (white detailing) and black stockings. A photo of me was posted on facebook and some girls were like making fun of me because i was wearing stockings. I just wanted to know if it was totally out of style or ugly looking. Thanks. Oh and if you disagree and you can find some recent photos of celebs or fashion models wearing black stockings (not leggings) then that would be even better! Gracias! http://s454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/locogia4life/?action=view¤t=n502435171_1248733_9746.jpg theres a link to the pic...its not a good representation but i didnt take alot of pics that night...im sitting on the green chair next to the asian guy :)

Hi, I am a high school senior attending a competitive urban high school. I am applying to the following schools and I was wondering from your honest opinion, if I have a possibility of getting accepted. 1. UPenn Wharton 2. MIT Sloan 3. Cornell Hotel 4. NYU Stern 5. Northwestern (this is for Journalism) I have a 94 average, 2170 SAT score, decent SAT2 scores. I am captain of my track -indoor and outdoor-teams, editor for newspaper, pres. of club, officer for another club, member of model united nations, on the student government council for my senior grade, a member of the national honor society and the spanish national honor society. i am also on the school symphonic orchestra. out of school, i am pres. of my church youth group, have a job that i attend on fridays, and volunteer. during my high school years, i also created a free tutoring program that helps underprivileged children in my neighborhood in math and english. i am applying to specifically business schools. i have a really strong background in business. i was part of a business program and also attended a summer program that was hosted by merill lynch. i have won several business plan competitions and am currently in the process of creating a business plan. i am also taking ap microeconomics right now, which should match nicely with my major. i am also asian, something that colleges take into consideration. i guess i need external, purely honest feedback. do you think i can get into the aforementioned colleges? thanks!

  • Resolved Question: Are automotive editors misinforming the public regarding the quality level of American vehicles?
Below, is an actual letter to the editor of a local newspaper in response to the editor's obvious biased views on American vehicles in general. Editor: As I watch the coverage of the fate of the U.S. auto industry, one alarming and frustrating fact hits me right between the eyes. The fate of our nation's economic survival is in the hands of some congressmen who are completely out of touch and act without knowledge of an industry that affects almost every pe rson in our nation. The same lack of knowledge is shared with many journalists whom are irresponsible when influencing the opinion of millions of viewers. Sen. Rich ard Shelby of Alabama has doomed the industry, calling it a dinosaur. No Mr. Shelby, you are the dinosaur, with ideas stuck in the '70s, '80s and '90s. You and the uninformed journalist and senators that hold onto myths that are not relevant in today's world. When you say that the Big Three build vehicles nobody wants to buy, you must have overlooked that GM outsold Toyota by about 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S. and Ford outsold Honda by 850,000 and Nissan by 1.2 million in the U.S. GM was the world's No. 1 automaker beating Toyota by 3,000 units. When you claim inferior quality comes from the Big Three, did you realize that Chevy makes the Malibu and Ford makes the Fusion that were both rated over the Camry and Accord by J.D. Power independent survey on initial quality? Did you bother to read the Consumer Report that rated Ford on par with good Japanese automakers. Did you realize Big Three's gas guzzlers include the 33 mpg Malibu that beats the Accord. And for '09 Ford introduces the Hybrid Fusion whose 39 mpg is the best midsize, beating the Camry Hybrid. Ford's Focus beats the Corolla and Chevy's Cobalt beats the Civic. When you ask how many times are we going to bail them out you must be referring to 1980. The only Big Three bailout was Chrysler, who paid back $1 billion, plus interest. GM and Ford have never received government aid. When you criticize the Big Three for building so many pickups, surely you've noticed the attempts Toyota and Nissan have made spending billions to try to get a piece of that pie. Perhaps it bothers you that for 31 straight years Ford's F-Series has been the best selling vehicle. Ford and GM have dominated this market and when you see the new '09 F-150 you'll agree this won't change soon. Did you realize that both GM and Ford offer more hybrid models than Nissan or Honda. Between 2005 and 2007, Ford alone has invested more than $22 billio n in research and development of technologies such as Eco Boost, flex fuel, clean diesel, hybrids, plug in hybrids and hydrogen cars. It's 2008 and the quality of the vehicles coming out of Detroit are once again the best in the world. Perhaps Sen. Shelby isn't really that blind. Maybe he realizes the quality shift to American. Maybe it's the fact that his state of Alabama has given so much to land factories from Honda, Hyundai and Mercedes Benz that he is more concerned about their continued growth than he is about the people of our country. Sen. Shelby's disdain for "government subsidies" is very hypocritical. In the early '90s he was the driving force behind a $253 million incentive package to Mercedes. Pl us, Alabama agreed to purchase 2,500 vehicles from Mercedes. While the bridge loan the Big Three is requesting will be paid back, Alabama 's $180,000-plus per job was pure incentive. Sen. Shelby, not only are you out of touch, you are a self-serving hypocrite, who is prepared to ruin our nation because of lack of knowledge and lack of due diligence in making your opinions and decisions. After 9/11, the Detroit Three and Harley Davidson gave $40 million-plus emergency vehicles to the recovery efforts. What was given to the 9/11 relief effort by the Asian and European Auto Manufactures? $0 Nada. Zip! We live in a world of free trade, world economy and we have not been able to produce products as cost efficiently. While the gov ernments of other auto producing nations subsidize their automakers, our government may be ready to force its demise. While our automakers have paid union wages, benefits and legacy debt, our Asian competitors employ cheap labor. We are at an extreme disadvantage in production cost. Although many UAW concessions begin in 2010, many lawmakers think it's not enough. Some point the blame to corporate management. I would like to speak of Ford Motor Co. The company has streamlined by reducing our workforce by 51,000 since 2005, closing 17 plants and cutting expenses. Product and future product is excellent and the company is focused on one Ford. This is a company poised for success. Ford product quality and corporate management have improved light years since the nightmare of Jacques Nasser. Thank you Alan Mulally and the best auto company management team in the business. The financial collapse caused by the secondary mortgage fiasco and the greed of Wall Street has led to a $700 billion bailout of the industry that created the problem. AIG spent nearly $1 million on three company excursions to lavish resorts and hunting destinations. Paulson is saying no to $250 billion foreclosure relief and the whole thing is a mess. So when the Big Three ask for 4 percent of that of the $700 billion, $25 billion to save the country's largest industry, there is obviously oppositions. But does it make sense to reward the culprits of the problem with $700 billion unconditionally, and ignore the victims? As a Ford dealer, I feel our portion of the $25 billion will never be touched an d is not necessary. Ford currently has $29 billion of liquidity. However, the effect of a bankruptcy by GM will hurt the suppliers we all do business with. A Chapter 11 bankruptcy by any manufacture would cost retirees their health care and retirements. Chances are GM would recover from Chapter 11 with a better business plan with much less expense. So who foots the bill if GM or all three go Chapter 11? All that extra health care, unemployment, loss of tax base and some forgiven debt goes back to the taxpayer, us. With no chance of repayment, this would be much worse than a loan with the intent of repayment. So while it is debatable whether a loan or Chapter 11 is better for the Big Three, a $25 billion loan is definitely better for the taxpayers and the economy of our country. So I'll end where I began on the quality of the products of Detroit . Before you, Mr. or Ms. Journalist continue to misinform the American public and turn them against one of the great industries that helped build this nation, I must ask you one question. Before you, Mr. or Madam Congressman vote to end health care and retirement benefits for 1 million retirees, eliminate 2.5 million of our nation's jobs, lose the technology that will lead us in the future and create an economic disaster including hundreds of billions of tax dollars lost, I ask this question not in the rhetorical sense. I ask it in the sincere, literal way. Can you tell me, have you driven a Ford lately?

  • Voting Question: Advice Getting into Wharton UPENN?
Hi, I am a high school student and I was wondering if any of you could help me in perfecting my resume or provide me with any advice to get into college. With that being said …. I go to school at University High School in Irvine California, one of the top-ranked public high schools in California. Aside from being academically vigorous and challenging, it is also home of possibly 2000 Asian Americans. All of whom possess similar characteristics; musical instrument, solid grades, good SAT /AP scores, athletic sort(s), and community service hours here and there. I was wondering if you had an advice on how I would be able to stand out amongst thousands of clones. Now a little about myself. I am Taiwanese, as well as 1/16th Hispanic. Weird, yes, i know. To be honest, I am nothing close to a stellar student. I have poor grades, a 3.49 weighted GPA through my freshman and sophomore years. This year, my junior year, I am currently juggling a 4.0 weighted GPA. Last year, I took the AP Exam for US History and received a 5, but scored a low 680 on my SAT2s. I’ve taken the SAT2 for Chinese and Math Level 2, and received 800s on both. I’ve also scored a 2300 on my SAT 1. However, in my first semester of sophomore year I received 2 C’s (one in APUSH and another in Algebra 2). I managed to raise my APUSH grade to an A- the following semester, and my math grade to a B. Here are some of the school activities that I am involved in. I have been part of Student Council for 3 years. I am the Club President of Fiddle For Fun. Fiddle For Fun is an organization that I started this year that provides free tutoring opportunities at local elementary schools. It also helps fund raise with the principals of these schools in raising money to buy school supplies. (I’ve organized a jog-a-thon, a mini marathon where students gather pledges on the # of laps they run and all donations benefit the school). I am also the a board member of Model United Nations, Mock Trial, as well as the VP of Kiwins and Save Darfur! I’ve been part of the school orchestra since freshman year, and played basketball and wrestling for the school team. I am also a writer for our school newspaper and magazine. Here are some of things I participate outside of school. As I stated above, I am part of the school orchestra. I play the viola. Since freshman year, I have participated in the All-State Orchestra, All-Southern Orchestra, as well as the All-National Orchestra. This summer I had the amazing opportunity of being invited by IYCA (a local orchestra) to play in the Summer Beijing Olympics. I toured Seoul, Korea as well as Beijing, China playing my viola at various locations, including the Great Wall of China and at the Opening Ceremony. The summer of my freshman year, I spent a few weeks in Taiwan teaching English to its native speakers. I traveled to Mexico as well as Ecuador to help build homes either as part of missions or leadership programs. I will be going to India this winter break for a week apart of IYCA to spread musical awareness to the less fortunate and teach natives the basic fundamentals in learning how to read as well play a musical instrument. Along with IYCA, I have helped raised thousands of dollars to purchase violins that will be given to natives in India who possess a keen interest in learning the art of music. I also published 2 short children books, in Mandarin and English. I am a member of T.I.P, an organization that provides emotional support to victims who have experienced a life changing tragedy, such as a car crash. I’ve interned for a district attorney, and am currently interning at a sports agency company. Lastly, I attend church every week, and am part of my church choir as well as its monthly visits to a nursery home. That being said, I need your help. I am not in my top percent of my class, and do not have impressive grades. I would like to pursue a career in business management. I want to be able to go to a top-notch school, such as UPENN even if its just for undergrad. It would be nice to make my parents proud. If you had any advice, please, please let me know! Thank you!

It is named the Boettcher scholarship is provides a full ride to any Colorado college for 4 years. If I get into Rice, I will reject this scholarship. Opinions, please?

  • Resolved Question: do ladies sometimes find someone smaller, thinner than them attractive?
well i was go my way about in the mall and i came across this blonde attractive european-descent lady. as i walked towards her direction, she was staring at me, her eyes fixated at me, pupils dilated or something. the thing is she's like 175cm and model like proportion, better build than me. im far east asian couple of cms shorter than her. i've been around on earth for quite sometime in a whitemans world so i know when im looked down upon, etc. her look wasn't that. it's quite rare but sometimes i do get that look time to time. it's flattering but i find that me getting such a look is very, VERY incomprehensible. Why? cos women are supposed to find someone taller, thicker, have longer arms and legs than them attractive. hence the question... what's wrong with them? what has got into them to find me as eye candy?
