  • Open Question: I bought a car. My DMV requested my Car’s title. I have not received a NY title yet. Can you help?
I’m 21/M/NY and this may be a dumb question. I bought a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor from a private dealer in Texas. It was delivered to me in October via an auto transport company. A few days before I actually took possession of the vehicle from the auto transport the company, the private Dealer that I purchased from sent me a UPS Next Day Air shipment containing the Texas Title. I registered the car at my local DMV and they needed to take the title. But they told me that Albany (NY capital) will send me a New York title. Shouldn’t I have received it by now? I don’t need it right now for any reason; I just remember being told I will eventually get one. If I wanted to sell the car, I would need it. But, to this date I have not received it. I did everything back in October.
  • Resolved Question: Wholesale prices on a couple Semi-Autos?
I'm looking for the wholesale prices of the Springfield XDRM 9mm and the Sig P226 9mm I realize that only certified gun dealers have access to them at these prices. But I'm in a police academy, which doesn't return from break for 2 weeks, and an instructor has a buddy who deals guns for just over wholesale. Springfield happens to have a deal for 2 extra magazines until January 15, so I'm trying to find out how much over wholesale the local shops are selling these weapons (as part of the decision making process) So if anybody could help me out/point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.
  • Open Question: I make $1397.00 per month PT can I qualify for an auto loan?
I don't care how much the loan if for. I don't plan on buying a car for any more than 7,500.00. I don't have time to save for a car cash, and I want to build my credit by paying monthly payments. I live at home, have no rent, just a cell phone bill of $60.00, and a down payment of $1,200.00 in my Chase savings account. What else do I need, or can I go to a dealer? I work at FedEx Kinko's.

I am negotiating a lease for a restaurant right now and there is a small loft style office space that has been used for the "front" of an auto dealership. In other words one of the two partners in the building has a dealer tag and he has to maintain an office to have it. My problem is that is to be my office and will have the safe and other sensitive documents in it. How do I manage this situation if it can not be avoided through negotiations?

It has just clocked 100,000miles but has full service history and has Never had any problem worth talking about, but it has developed this problem.Sometimes when i select Park the P on the dash goes off when i let go of the gearstick, the car will then move as if in neutral,if i give the stick a hard tap forward the P comes back on although the stick doesn't seem to move any further forward. It also does the same Sometimes when i select drive, the D on the dash goes off and the car will rev freely, tap the stick back hard and it comes back on and drive is restored even though the stick doesn't really move any further back.I really like this car but as its as old as it is I dont want to spend a fortune by handing it to a dealer to be told it needs a new gearbox if it doesn't.Any suggestions to the cause would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Resolved Question: How would my freind go about getting an auto dealer license ? To buy & sale cars at auctions ?
  • Voting Question: I was sold a car with the entire headlight system dependent upon an old extension cord. Recourse?
I bought the car a year ago and was told that the car had been hit, but that it was in perfect working order and that the mechanic had gone over everything with a fine toothed comb. The dealer told me that he was waiting on the title, which he said had been held up due to some technicality. I sensed something wrong, but I needed a car badly and was in little position to negotiate. Anyhow, recently I was stopped by a cop and told to get my headlight fixed. I took the car to an auto parts store, who revealed to me that the headlight wiring consisted of nothing more than an old extension cord, which is why the headlight on one side would not work after changing the bulb. Now, I am stuck and cannot afford another car, nor can I afford a new electrical system. Do I have any recourse in this matter? I only occurred to me now to ask here. Thanks! Um, Frank, if it were that easy, then why was it rigged in the first place, right? Seekn, thanks, that sounds like good advice! PB, it does not seem legal, and certainly not ethical, that a dealer would sell a car with a faulty wiring system, especially one that is obviously rigged. What if my lights had gone out while driving? Someone could easily have been killed, as many of the roads in this county are unlit. What are you thinking, anyway. I still believe that it was unethical to sell a car in this condition; however, I must concede that you are probably right - I have no leg to stand on. However, considering that there was a mechanic that works for the dealership, and who also applied the inspection sticker, I assumed that they would be legally bound to sell the car in proper condition, and that they would know this. Buyer beware, live and learn, yada, yada, yada. Craig, thanks for the info. I'll do what I can.:) Scott, the dealer (small town) told me that every part of that car had been looked over by the mechanic, and that there was NOTHING mechanically wrong with the car. He was emphatic about this, as I thoroughly explained my situation and that I could not afford to be taken. There was also a problem with the title, which I find very odd. Again, I needed a car in the worst way and went against my better insticts out of sheer necessity. It won't happen again, I'll say that.

  • Resolved Question: How to find "date code" on auto tires?
I bought a used 1999 Subaru Forester in 2004. The dealer touted the fact that he installed "new" tires on the car. However - after hearing about the whole "tire-age controversy" from a friend at dinner the other day, I decided to try to find out exactly how old my tires really are. Unfortunately, I am having trouble finding the tires' date code. The tires are General Ameri*G4S. Here is the issue: The sources that I googled state that all tires manufactured in the U.S. after 2000 should have a number starting with the prefix DOT stamped on the sidewall. Mine do not. The sources also state that pre-2000 tires should have a number ending with a triangle. My tires don't have this either. So, I'm not sure exactly which number I should be looking at as the date code, if in fact the tires actually have a date code at all. Here are the numbers on the tire sidewall that I can't identify. Perhaps someone can tell me whether one of these is the date code: DK-67767 34004 E4 029069 (the "E4" has a circle around it) According to the info that I found online, the only one of the numbers above that could make sense is the 34004 (40th week of 2004) - but if the tires were made in 2004, wouldn't it have a DOT number? Unless maybe the tires are imported, but it says on the sidewall that they were manufactured in the U.S. So, I'm confused. Since the tires are at least 5 years old at this point, I'm going to go ahead and replace them all anyway - but I'm really curious about when they were actually manufactured. Thanks in advance for any insight!

  • Resolved Question: CASE STUDY # 1:Steel Specialties has been in business for 52 years. The company maintains a perpetual?
inventory system, uses a LIFO flow assumption, and ends its fiscal year at December 31. At the year end, the cost of goods sold and inventory are adjusted to reflect periodic LIFO costing procedures. A railroad strike has delayed the arrival of purchases ordered during the past several months of 2001, and Steel Specialties has not been able to replenish its inventories as merchandise is sold. At December 22, 2006 one product appears in the company’s perpetual inventory records at the following unit costs: Purchase Date Quantity Unit Cost Total Cost Nov. 14, 1954 3,000 Rs. 6 Rs. 18,000 Apr. 12, 1955 2,000 8 16,000 Available for sale at Dec. 22, 2001 5,000 Rs. 34,000 Steel Specialties has another 8,000 units of this product on order at the current wholesale cost of Rs. 30 per unit. Due to the railroad strike, however, these units have not yet arrived (the terms of purchase are F.O.B. destination). Steel Specialties also has been an order from a customer who wants to purchase 4,000 units of this product at the retail sales price of Rs. 45 per unit. Steel Specialties intends to make this sale on December 30, regardless of whether the 8,000 units or order arrive by this date. (The 4,000 unit sale will be shipped by truck, F.O.B. shipping point.) Requirements: a) Are the units in inventory really almost 50 years old? Explain. b) Prepare a schedule showing the sales revenue, cost of goods sold, and gross profit that will result from this sale on December 30, assuming that the 80,000 units currently on order (1) arrive before year ends and (2) do not arrive until some time in the following year. In each computation, show the number of units comprising the cost of goods sold and their related per unit costs. c) Comment on the results obtained in the part (b). d) Management should delay this sale by a few days or not? Explain the reasons for your answer. CASE STUDY # 2: It is late summer and National Motors, an auto manufacturer, is facing a financial crisis. A large issue of bonds payable will mature next March, and the company must issue stock or new bonds to raise the money to retire this debt. Unfortunately, profits and cash flows have been declining over recent years. Management fears that if cash flows and profits do not improve in the current year, the company will not be able to raise the capital needed to replace the maturing bonds. Therefore, members of management have made the following proposals to improve the cash flows and profitability that will be reported in the financial statements dated this coming December 31, 2003. 1. Switch from the LIFO method to the FIFO method of valuing inventories. Management estimates that the FIFO method will result in the lower cost of goods sold but in higher income taxes fro the current year. However, the additional income taxes will not actually be paid until early next year. 2. Switch from the 150%-declining –balance method of depreciation to the straightline method and lengthen the useful lives over which assets are depreciated. These changes would be made only for financial reporting purposes, not for income tax purposes. 3. Pressure dealers to increase their inventories-in short, to buy more cars. (The dealerships are independently owned; thus dealers are the customers’ to whom National Motors sells automobiles). Management estimates that this strategy could increase sales for the current year by 5%. However, any additional sales in the current year would be almost entirely offset by fewer sales in the following year. 4. Require dealers to pay for purchases more quickly. Currently, dealers must pay for purchases of autos within 60 days. Management is considering. reducing this period to 30days. 5. Pass up cash discounts offered for prompt payment (that is 2/10, n/30), and do not pay any bills until the final due date. 6. Borrow at current short-term interest rates (about 10%) and use the proceeds to pay off long-term debt bearing an interest rate of 13%. 7. Substitute stock dividends for cash dividends currently paid on capital stock. Requirement: a) Fill in the table given below by indicating, whether the above seven proposals will increase, decrease or have no effect on captions given in the table. Proposals Net Income Cash Flow from Operating activities Cash 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 b) For each of the seven proposals, write a short paragraph explaining the reasoning behind your answer to part a.
  • Resolved Question: is it worth to drive 3 hours to get this car?
http://www.dealercarsearch.com/allphotos.aspx?dealer=389&id=171608&bgColor=000000 ok so me and my parents are arguing about whether its worth it or not to drive almost 4 hours to get his car. to me this car is worth the drive because i used to own one before and i know how good of a car it is. it lasted me a long time almost 300k. another reason why i think its worth the drive is because of how hard it is to find the car. it was only made for 3 years and then they stopped making it. i've searched everywhere (cars.com, yahoo autos, autotrader, usedcars.com etc) trying to find one and this is the closest to me. my parents basically say the car is old and its not worth driving that far for it. but i really like the car a lot. what do you think? its has 150k miles and the dealership is asking $3000 for it
  • Resolved Question: Polls and Surveys Who deserved the bailout the most?
Out of the 3 major auto dealers, who was the less corrupt, And could they have bailed out one and not the others. Personally, I would have prefered them not get the bailout. Why should the high ranking corporate scandelous, scum spend w/o consequence? Built Ford tough I've owned nothing, but ford my whole life, so has my father, I had a feeling they were on the up and up. Ford Rocks.! For one Gary they are double dipping, they just know loop holes to where they are not held in contempt. Plus they high ranking Ceo's make their budjet plans, which by the way are extremely inflated, putting their company and the many blue collars and their families they work hard to support in jeopardy of unemployment, They think they get to have their private jets etc w/o even running a corporation successfully. Their crimes are actually sins, greed, glutony, etc. and stupidity, why would I be jealous or envious, I'm not bankrupt or a failure like these losers, ceos of Dodge, GM, and yes to keep my corporation going I'd make all essential sacrifices, especially for the employees. You must be a bitter, scorn Enron Reject. The only thing you said that makes any sense is, congress making the spec standards when none are engineers. I just educated you Gary now you have nothing to say is it b/c You're................... IGNORANT!!!!

  • Resolved Question: Would this car last me around 5 years?
I currently have a 1998 jetta k2 auto that I love because it is my first car, but my car is falling apart, the transmission isn't shifting right, it does not go very well in snow ( i live in higher elevations), and it has over 116,000 miles on it. I found a 1999 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT for sale. I am looking to trade my jetta in on it. The car is in very nice condition, no scratches or dents, and the interior is spotless. The car only has 77,000 miles on it and the dealer wants $6600 for it. Would this car last me for a few years without having any major problems? I really need a AWD car since I live in snowy weather. So I look at this car? Will it be much better than my jetta? thanks

  • Voting Question: 3 questions regarding an auto rental?
When a rental care gets a 4" x 3" that is less than ½ “ deep, no paint chip (looks like someone took his fist and pushed in the hood) and the manager takes it out of service and writes a report of damage during rental, 1) Does the rental agency get any insurance money to recoup the time the car is out of service? Also, the manager demanded that he cannot describe the “dent” on the report and stated he must write, “car returned with obvious dent on hood.” I only rented the car for one hour, and the only time it was out of my site was after I returned it, the manager went outside and returned ten minutes later stating a huge dent was on the hood and it happened while in my possession. I stated it was not there when I walked in and also it was very hard to see (I happened to have a camera on me and took pictures, then called the police and also called my insurance company to file a claim . He refused to signed a description of the dent. My insurance company stated if it is a small dent they just pay an automatic sum and take the dealers word for it. 2) By writing “obvious dent on hood” does this entitle him to that unexamined fee? 3) Is there a way I can find out if the car is rented that same day and also if this alleged dent has been charged to other renters?
  • Resolved Question: Auto Dealer Sold me Crashed Car!?
I bought a Lexus IS250 2008 on 09-28-2008 with 3,000 miles at Michael's Auto Sales in West Park, Florida. From the day that I bought the car I pointed out a few things that the car needed that I noticed were not right that they told me would be fixed. I have taken the car to Lexus of Kendall a few times because the car promps me that things are not wroking correctly. They have discovered that the car was involved in a car accident and air bags were deployed when it happened. The left front drivers side is where the impact was and Lexus discoverd that wires are servered and the water resevoir tank is cracked due to a collision with poor work done to the inside. I have had the car for three months now. Is there anything that I can do to have the contract voided and all money invested in the car returned to me? Should I seek legal help. I have a good feeling that the dealership knew the car had problems because they dont answer my phone calls, neglect to call me back and dont serve me! Please help.

  • Resolved Question: How much can I expect to reduce the price of a new car by purchasing it on 12/31/08? ex. 2009 Civic or Corolla?
I heard by purchasing cars on the last day of the month/quarter/year that sales peoples will want to boost there numbers which means they could be more apt to reduce the price. I know it's a good time to buy now with auto being in great supply, but realistically how much can I save by pruchasing on 12/31. As an example, the invoice on a 2009 Corolla is 16,000 and MSRP is 17,500. Is it reasonable to ask $15,000? $14,000? I know the dealer has still quite a few of them on the lot as well. Any suggestions? Thoughts?

  • Resolved Question: auto dealers in spring hill fl.?
  • Resolved Question: Why would anyone buy a VW Jetta Diesel? ?
sure it gets 41 MPG, but why would people buy this? I agree if someone likes diesel engines... but that's it. 1. Fuel filter change every 20,000 miles = $30.00 (part) 2.Oil change: You have to use Volkswagan's special 507.00 oil at the dealer. Each quart is $10 and you need 5 of them. YOu can't get cheaper ones at an auto parts store because none of them are 507.00. 3. Diesel is 2 times expensive than regular gas. QUestion: Why would anyone buy a diesel? You're wrong. On VW gas cars, you do not have to change the fuel filter for the life of the vehicle. On my MItsubishi, you don't have to change it until 60,000 miles. Diesel filters are twice or three times the cost of gas filters. 507.00 VW approved Oil... not $507.00..... duh! KB, Check your owners manual. I'll bet you it says "Fuel filter change is not required" I used to own a Jetta... I know. kb, that's if you own the new model bug, not the vintage ones. KB, The oil change is more than $50 if you do it yourself. On my mitsubishi Eclipse, an oil change only cost me about $10
  • Resolved Question: Does down payment effect rate on auto loan?

  • Resolved Question: Legal advice needed on an auto purchase?
Hello all, I bought a 2000 Eddie Bauer Explorer at an auto auction in October and they are licensed with the DMV so they were supposed to send the title transfer in for me. Well, three mos later I still do not have a registration or a title. I called the DMV and they said by law the dealer is supposed to send me a registration within 45 days. Well, I found out about this because I was pulled over today and the officer told me the car isn't even in my name. Anyway, I called the DMV and they said the dealer never even transferred the title over and that it's still in the old owner's name. I tried calling the dealer and all I keep getting is an answering machine and they suspiciously have NO upcoming auctions at this time. This is an auction that's been around for quite some time, but it really peeves me that they did this. Is there any recourse of action on my part? Also, they totally lied on the mechanical report and the darn thing started falling apart the day I brought it home. Since it was never transferred is there any way I can get these ppl to refund me and just keep the vehicle? I know it's a long shot but thought I'd ask. Also, can they get fined for putting me in the position of driving illegally all this time and never transferring the title? I know the buyer can get fined for not transferring w/in 15 day but what about dealers? So, am I just going to have to eat it on this deal and wait ANOTHER 6 weeks for their F-UP? Can they get away with this?
  • Resolved Question: My '02 Grand Cherokee won't start!?
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L with 56K miles on it. Yesterday, I went out to go to work and the Jeep wouldn't start. Cranked once and when I turned the key again, nothing. Figured it may be the battery since I had never replaced the battery when I bought it used in March. It currently has 56K miles on it. My neighbors came out and helped me try to jump the battery. No go, but it DID crank this time. Figured the battery was just really dead and had my neighbor drive me to auto parts store to get a new battery. Put it in and it still won't start. Husband came home and checked the relays - all fine, and then disconnected the line from the external fuel filter to see if fuel was being pumped through it. Cranked the engine again and no fuel was being pumped through it. We also were not able to hear the fuel pump turn on with the key in the on position. Purchased a new fuel pump from a dealer, installed it today and it still won't start. We didn't replace the external filter. Could this be the problem? Is there an emergency fuel cut-off switch to the fuel pump on this vehicle? Or is it possible that this is not fuel related at all and an ignition problem? Or maybe the Sentry key? Would my check engine light come on if this were the case? My check engine light is not on. Car ran beautifully until yesterday. We had even driven it 120 miles each way to my parents house in Pennsylvania on Christmas Day with no problems. Any ideas would be most appreciated. We replaced the fuel pump with a new one from a Jeep dealer. Is there a way to test the external filter/regulator to see if it's working, since that was NOT replaced?
  • Resolved Question: Disabled CEL, MIL, on a Volkswagen. Professional legal advice needed?
I bought a Volkswagen passat a few months ago. The car ran good and it had no warning signs or problems when i drove it. I bought the car in a different state from which i live in. Before flying out, i asked if the car had any CEL or MIL lights currently "on" . I was told no. The other day when i was driving, the car had a burning smell and some light smoke coming from under the front wheels. Nothing heavy and it didnt last long. I drove the car later to an auto-parts store (no smell or smoke this time) and asked to scan the car to see if any soft-codes were hitting. When scanned, it came up with a code that was a hard code that should have kicked the CEL/MIL on the dash. Upon further investigation,we noticed the CEL/MIL was not even light up upon turning the car to the "on" position, before starting the car. All VW MIL light up in this stage and then they either stays on if the car has a problem or turns off if the car is in good running condition. It appears that my CEL/MIL has been disabled. I dont know if the dealer did it or if it was the previous owner who sold the car did it but I know now that the car will need a new transmission as the torque converter is shot and this requires an engine pull and about 3-4K. My question is what are my legal options? Does this violate the clean air act with the EPA because the CEL/MIL is part of the emission system? What about the Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices? Do i have any legs to stand on? Can a dealer, even a small dealer, sell a car that has such an important feature, disabled. The local VW dealer can not fit the car in for a another week or so. I am going to have them pull all the codes, and see if they can determine when each code was fired (This will show how long the car has had the problem). I am also going to have them figure out if the CEL was disabled or malfunctioned. It they can determine that the CEL was disabled and its been disabled for a while then that would prove that the car was sold to me with a tampered with dash cluster. Any legal advice would be great. Thank you I only know as much as i can research on car. I didnt think i would have to check to see if a MIL light was disabled. I have schuduled an appointment with the local VW dealer but cant get it in till the 6th. I had heard that disabling a MIL is considered a federal offense because part of the emission system and the EPA protects that by law. I am basically looking for someone to confirm that.

  • Resolved Question: On Demand Inventory for Car Distributors?
Do you think on demand inventory should be included in the auto bail out . . . essentially, someone would have to actually "order" the car before it's built to spec . . . streamline an inefficient dealer process . . . and tie union workers to production numbers based on current economic conditions . . . So would you buy a car from an on demand system . . .

  • Voting Question: Word problems Heeelllp!! ?
A car dealer offers you a choice of 0% financing for 60 months or $2500 cash back on a new vehicle. You have a pre-approved 60-month loan you can use from your credit union at a 4% interest rate. If the monthly payments at 0% are $16.67 per $1000 financed, and the monthly payments at 4% are $18.41 per $1000 financed, what is the range of new car prices for which the cash back option will cost you less? For what range of car prices should you take the 0% financing? You have a jug of 40% antifreeze solution in your garage, and you just bought a new container of 100% antifreeze from the auto parts store. You need to mix up 1 gallon of 50% antifreeze for your car's radiator. How much of each of the two solutions do you need to use?

How is it that Blackwater Worldwide and other private military companies (PMCs) can acquire their heavy weaponry? Do they just inform the ATF that they will be purchasing x-number of M-4s so it does not look sleezy? Do they register as a firearms dealer? Does the company have to be registered in a state where full-auto weapons are legal? Does Blackwater Worldwide or other PMCs use explosives such as hand grenades? If so, how is it that they can use them?
  • Resolved Question: What is the liklihood of the UAW living up to the terms of the loan from us?
"The Detroit companies pledged to rebuild their once-mighty industry, though they acknowledged it would be tough to fight their way back from the brink of bankruptcy. If the carmakers fail to prove viability — a positive cash flow and ability to make good on the loans — by March 31, they will be required to repay the government loans." "This restructuring will require meaningful concessions from all involved in the auto industry — management, labor unions, creditors, bondholders, dealers and suppliers," he said. "If a company fails to come up with a viable plan by March 31, it will be required to repay its federal loans. Taken together, these conditions send a clear message to everyone involved in American automakers: The time to make the hard decisions to become viable is now — or the only option will be bankruptcy." LOOKS LIKE FROM THIS STATEMENT FROM LABOR - IT ISN'T PROMISING AND THEY WILL PROBABLY NOT MAKE CONCESSIONS: Obama, who takes office a month from Saturday, praised Bush's action but said the companies "must not squander this chance to reform bad management practices and begin the long-term restructuring" absolutely necessary. Obama will be free to reopen the arrangement from the government's side if he chooses, and the head of the United Auto Workers said the union would be appealing to the new president and the strongly Democratic new Congress on that subject. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081221/ap_on_go_pr_wh/meltdown_autos Um Hello<> without the UAWS help this is not going to happen, I realize the loans were made to the companies - but the unreasonable contract terms have to be renegotiated if the companies are going to be viable, comprende?
  • Resolved Question: Oil change on Audi A4?
My car was overdue for an oil change when I bought it, so I just went down to the local auto parts store and got a purolator plus oil filter and changed the oil with that. The Audi dealer reccomends an oil filter with a pressure release system, I'm not sure if the oil filter I have on the car has one. Should I replace the oil filter now, or would it be okay to wait until the next oil change?
