  • Voting Question: how do i connect to internet on my ipod touch ?
Ipod touch safari can't open the page? I have had my iPod for about 1 month. I am currently running 1.1.3.. So the wi-fi has worked for me. Well, for about 1 week, my internet connection got lost for my iPod. My family has about 3 laptops, all running the same internet connection. My computer works just fine, as well as the rest. But my iPod touch is having big problems connecting. I go to the Wi-fi panel in Settings. It shows my network, and so I click it. I enter my WEP code, and everything seems fine. But when I enter safari, or any other app that uses wi-fi, it says, "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server." Although it says that, the little wi-fi signal up at the status bar is on full blast. So I did some research on why it isn't working. I checked my computers IP address, and it dosen't match the one on my iPod. On my iPod, it starts with 169. On my computer, it starts 153. Same with the subnet mask. There is no Router info, or DNS on the iPod touch network panel. Anyone know how to change the IP address on the iPod for good? • Resolved Question: Acquisition (loan origination) fee, when leasing a new car?
I am negotiating to buy a new Lexus. I'm in Northern California. The dealer charges $700 "leasing origination fee". I think some place refers to this fee as an "acquisition" fee. The problem is that I'm not going to a different leasing company. I'm getting the lease thru Lexus Financial. BTW, the dealer is willing to offer the car to me at $1000 below dealer invoice. According to the link below, it seems to me that I'm getting charged $700 extra. What do you think? http://www.automotive.com/auto-loans/36/loan-tips/car-leasing-faqs.html The Undisclosed Acquisition Fee An acquisition fee is required by most leasing companies in order to open a lease. This fee, also known as a lease origination fee, is usually around $450, but can be as high as $700. Originally this fee was invented by the dealers, who would claim the car leasing company charged the fee. The dealer would then pocket the fee. But the leasing companies caught on, and began charging the acquisition fee on their own. The dealers are trained to integrate the acquisition fee into the lease in order to let it go unnoticed. To avoid this, always ask for everything, every single dollar on your lease agreement, to be itemized and explained clearly. This way you can save yourself from paying these or other hidden costs.
  • Resolved Question: How can I get auto finance/lease with no credit?
I am a student and have no credit. I got my first credit card 4 months ago and I am making proper payments with not alot of debt. Times are tough right now for me, and I want to get out of my car lease. Is there a way (legal or not) to get out of my lease without losing too much money or hurting my credit at all. I am about 20k upside down on my car. The market as really slumped for high end cars. I already know about having someone assume the lease, refinance, etc. I just want to know a way sketchy or not to get out. Thanks Thank you for all the great suggestions. The car was around 110k new with tax and license..
  • Resolved Question: What credit score do auto dealers look for to lease a new car? From lets say VW or Honda credit?

  • Voting Question: Does the auto you lease have to be turned in to the same dealer you got it from?
When my auto lease ends and if I move 1,000 miles away do I have to return the auto to the same dealer I got it from or can I return it to any dealership of the same auto manufacturer? Thanks. OK I called the lease company, which is with the auto manufacturer, and they said I could turn the auto in to any of their dealerships (not just the one I got the vehicle from). Thanks everyone for the feedback.
  • Resolved Question: Which is better - save money toward down pymt on home or pay off debts?
I can only do one or the other: Save $400 per month to have 20% to put down on a home 5 yrs from now or Pay down debts that are $13,000, THEN begin saving toward that 20% down payment. That would put the home down payment time frame off by some extra 3 yrs or so. ********* Additionally, I have an auto lease that runs me $500/mo (payment and insurance) that will term March 2010. I am thinking of returning to my old 1994 Nissan rathar than renew a lease or buy a new car. What makes this part of the equation tough is that the Nissan Murano I've been leasing "fits" for my wheelchair-dependent hubby. My old car is 180k miles and is very hard to assist my hubby into and out of vehicle. The Murano has been great, but it kills me that I can't afford to buy it outright as new. * Should I just finance my current Nissan as a used car ? That way, it has the discount of being "used", but I have all auto maintenance records on it. What am I to do? Suggestions appreciated. 121608 7:40
  • Resolved Question: 2009 Eclipse differences in GT/SE models?
I'm looking into possibly leasing a new Eclipse. On the official website they only show 4 models the GS V4 engine in manual/auto and the GT V6 in manual/auto (and Spyder versions of each). While searching for inventory in my area on Cars.com I noticed several are listed as SE versions with the V6 engine. What are the differences between the SE and GT version and does the SE mean something like Standard Edition or Special Edition in this case?

  • Resolved Question: if you have a auto lease and that company closes does this end your lease obligations?
  • Resolved Question: Christian owned businesses in a small community?
Have any of you observed this in your community? A Christian here will announce to the community that they are gonna start a business (doesn't matter what it is.... say an auto repair shop) and that they are going to dedicate the business to Christ. The business usually runs about two to three years before it goes belly up because all the Christians go in and get charge accounts there and never pay their bills. Some of the ones who aren't paying are actually well to do or at lease do have the money but they don't pay anyway. I have seen this happen about 6 times in the last 20 years here. I always pay in cash and so do most of my pagan friends. But the Christians here seem to think that they don't have to pay. Where does this mind set come from? They pay all their other bills to the businesses who don't come out and say they are dedicated to any one but their own bottom line. So why do this to someone who says they are trying to live for their own Savior? When I was christian I didn't understand the attitude then and I still don't. WHY do they think this? If you don't understand the mind set of a small rural community, you don't understand the situation enough to anwser this. Sigh...
  • Voting Question: Are any other conservative Dems frustrated with the whole auto bailout deal?
As a conservative democrat I am against any bail outs even more so this auto bail out. I knew the democrats were going to vote for it so I found myself once again depending on republicans to do the right thing and not pass it but in typical can't walk the walk fashion, looks like they are going to cave as well once they get their sweetners added. At lease with the dems you know they are liberal, the damn republicans are much more frustrating... one day they're liberal the next day they're conservative, they are so hypocritical it's sickening. Hyperdog, isn't that same cry me a river story we heard for the 750 billion dollar wall st. bail out? Now we're being told no one knows where the money is going and the money that has been given out the banks are holding on to it. You people just don't get it... there are no two ways about it, either you want to be a socialist nation or you want to be a so-called capitalist nation, there is no inbetween. I don't care what we choose as long as we pick one and stick with it and stop all of this being socialist on Monday but Capitalist on Wedensday. Hell, if we are going to be a real socialist nation then OK, give me my damn bailout welfare check too! I want to start experiencing some of the good parts of socialism instead of all of the bad parts.

  • Resolved Question: Correcting/repairing a credit report?
I have always had a pretty good credit score (high 600's to low 700's). the worst of my score has always been my high CC balances, but regardless, I do pay all bills on time. Recently, I pulled a report that showed my lowest score ever (625) but I realized it was due mainly to 2 errors...what are my chances of successfully fighting the following: -my auto company reported me 33 days past due when my lease expired due to my not making the balloon payment though they had extended my lease for 60 days so technically the balloon payment was not due (they confirmed that it was a mistake) -and OLD collection placed on my account for about $33 due to a bill that my health insurance was supposed to pay, but paid late and likewise, I ended up footing the reporting! I am guessing with both of these off my score would shoot back up about 100 pts., but I don't want to spin my wheels...I am looking to refi my current mortgage (which is why I am asking this question in the first place). Thank you.
  • Resolved Question: Does this mean GM is doing the right thing for the business and workers?
Is this a good start for GM? GM Ceasing Corporate Aviation Operations Earlier this week, GM announced that it is ceasing operations at General Motors Air Transportation Services (GMATS) at Detroit Metro Airport. Due to significant cutbacks over the past months, GM travel volume no longer justifies a dedicated corporate aircraft operation. GM is exploring options for transferring its aircraft to another operator. The company is pursuing the sale of four of the aircraft so it can terminate the leases. GM will shutter the facility at Metro Airport effective January 1, 2009. GM will work with the airport to seek a tenant for the balance of the lease, which expires in 2009. Domestic Brands Score Highest in Consumer Ratings According to Biz360, a media and market solutions provider, consumers are expressing more positive comments toward American brands than for Japanese automakers. Basically, the company gathered roughly 300,000 online opinions about midsize cars from Ford, Chevrolet, Honda and Toyota. The data was pulled from such sites such as Auto Mall USA, Edmunds.com, IntelliChoice.com and Yahoo Autos from October 31, 2007 through November 1, 2008. The company discovered that Ford and Chevrolet are ahead of their Japanese counterparts when it comes to consumer perception.

I have no accounts with a balance.
  • Resolved Question: Significance of Marriage vs. Merely Going Out?
The point was made to me that one should never stop looking for the right girl until he is are married. Dating could be seen as a "lease with an option to buy". Obviously, you shouldn't cheat on your girlfriend. However, is there anything particularly wrong with still having the roving eye out for the bigger, better deal while dating? What if you start talking to a new girl (platonically) and she seems to hit all the right notes. Should you then be allowed to dump your girlfriend for the new girl without fear of recrimination? If you're leasing a condo and find a bigger one in a better area at a more reasonable price, you don't owe the landlord anything! You aren't expected to worry about what will ever happen to your old place. You don't have to line up a new occupant, etc. Maybe another applicable analogy could be the test drive at an auto dealership. When you're dating, you're merely taking the girl out for a spin. You are in no way obligated to the car if it doesn't ring your bell. Then why should you be labeled a bad guy when it comes to dating? By the way, marriage is marriage. I don't believe in EVER breaking that sacred trust UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE nor do I encourage people to fool around behind their girlfriend's back. One girl at a time! What I'm trying to ask is if the girl isn't your spouse (or for the ladies out there, if the guy isn't your spouse), do you owe her (or him) your undivided attention just yet? I am not advocating this mindset. I would just like to hear your thoughts on this, please. Miss Diamond- The choice of words might have been crude, but the general concept is explicit and pertinent. If you're dating (and just dating) someone, and if someone catches your eye, are you allowed to take a closer look? Your answer seems to correspond with those who take the affirmative on the argument posited. Jade- You seem to possess full comprehension of the argument. I'm not sure which stance I take on it. However, your point was rather compelling. typewriter- I think this question might have gone over your head a little. This question was intently directed at the big people. I understand and even empathize with your point. However, it is far removed from the theme of this particular question. Regardless, thank you for your response.

  • Resolved Question: Corporate leased car for small business.?
I have title in my name and bought personal insurance policy. My S-corporation leases from me and now pays the insurance. I subtract personal use from W2, in other words W2 is X on paper and actual salary payment is X-personal use. My accountant said I could also take the full salary and write a personal check back to corporation for personal use. That may be confusing but what I am concerned with is am I really covered when both I am driving my car for business and personal and if my wife happens to drive my car? We are both listed on the personal auto policy. Other ways of accomplishing the same thing that may or may not be better; add the corporation name to the personal auto policy, or buy a business auto policy with some type of personal umbrella or other coverage. I am president of the S-corp and am the only employee, although my wife may soon also be an employee. Thoughts?

  • Resolved Question: BIG THREE VS FOREIGN--- What do you think of this?
For everyone who doesn't like American auto companies (the big three). This was an email that was going around years ago but a friend just sent this to me again this morning. How does this sit with you? Ford and GM's contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and Washington. The findings are as follows..... 1. Ford- $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees. 2. GM- $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of vans, suv's, and trucks. 3. Daimler Chrysler- $10 million to support of the children and victims of the Sept.11 attack. 4. Harley Davidson motorcycles- $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the New York Police Dept. 5. Volkswagen-Employees and management created a Sept 11 Foundation, funded initial with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC. 6. Hyundai- $300,000 to the American Red Cross. 7. Audi-Nothing. 8. BMW-Nothing. 9. Daewoo- Nothing. 10. Fiat-Nothing. 11. Honda- Nothing despite boasting of second best sales month ever in August 2001 12. Isuzu- Nothing. 13. Mitsubishi-Nothing. 14. Nissan-Nothing. 15. Pors che-Nothing. Press release with condolences via the porsche website. 16. Subaru- Nothing. 17. Suzuki- Nothing. 18. Toyota-Nothing despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001. Condolences posted on the website Whenever the time may be for you to purchase or lease a new vehicle, keep this information in mind. You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American-owned and / or American based company. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States ... It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe we should not forget things like this. Say thank you in a way that gets their attention.. OFAMA: You think how they didn't help is great? SOUTHERN BELL: This was right after 9/11. Everybody came running to help our country but them. What does that tell you? Do they really care about or support the United States? SOUTHERN BELLE: The big three have employeed 3 million people plus. Think of that as 3 million people that you didn't have to pay for on welfare or with food stamps. helping during 9/11- a bad business decision? wow... Banning together to help this country during a terrible time in our history shouldn't be though of as PR work. I am sure all or most of you donated something after 9/11, did you do it so you could get accolades? Or did you donate because you felt the strongest sense of patriotism? TRACE: I seen a bumper sticker on a Taurus yesterday that said "retired from Fords, still drive one and always will". The very last nickle of profit from american cars comes back here, the very last nickle of profit from foreign cars go back to the foreign country.
  • Resolved Question: When would be the most economical time to break my lease?
I recently accepted a job offer that is a 100 miles away making my daily commute 200 miles. Ironically i left my previous job because i was working to many hours, now i am commuting the difference. Any way i currently pay 1087 rent and if i move closer to work i am looking at approximately 1200 for rent in the immediate area. Luckily i have a Prius and am averaging 40 miles per gallon and currently gas is about 2.50 a gallon but the wear and tear on my vehicle is a concern i recently replaced all four tires and got a tune up which cost about 600 in another week i will need another check up with the mechanic so i expect to spend a couple hundred again on auto maintenance. I would move but my apt complex is charging me 2500 to break the lease that will not conclude until the end of March. When i do move i will move within 10 miles of work. I am not very good with math but need to know when would it be worth it to break the lease now or tough it out? 07 prius with 30,000 miles currently if i stay it will have 42,000
  • Voting Question: Can I get out of an auto lease ?
I agreed to the lease as a favor for my friend, there was a mistake on the loan papers (after I signed and went home) and they let her sign them instead of me (they knew it was not me).now the payments cant get made and I need out of this lease! I'm hoping the loophole that the fact I didn't sign the corrected papers, but my friend did. Does this warrant a legal way to get out of this lease since I didn't legally sign the lease papers. There was a mistake on them and the dealer let my friend sign the corrected paperwork. She even signed my name wrong! So does anyone know if I can use this fact to legally get out of this lease, based on me not actually signing the papers. If so how would I approach this issue with GMAC?
  • Resolved Question: Should I trade in my leased vehicle?
I have a 2006 Nissan Altima, I have 1 year left on my lease. I was wondering if now would be a good time to trade in the vehicle and upgrade and possibly get a lower payment? With all the auto industry problems it seems like now would be a good time to get a good deal. Any thoughts?

  • Resolved Question: Should the Government BAIL OUT the big 3? 25 Billion?
What if we let these companies figure it out themselves... ? Save 10 Billion, put 15 Billion in an unemployment account for all the potential job losses.... I could care less about the auto companies... someone else will come up with better designs for more fuel efficient cars and a way to produce them... But while the transition is occuring, the workers that lose their jobs need at lease 6 months to a year of unemployment to get things figured out...
  • Resolved Question: Can you recommend a lender for a bad credit auto lease buyout loan?
I've tried several lenders and nobody will approve a loan for me because of my credit history. I'm paying my debts on time now, but it doesn't show on my credit report. My auto lease is up on 4/12 and I need to get a loan to purchase my car ASAP. Please help, I'm running out of time.
  • Resolved Question: Can I add myself to a car we are paying off?
My husband and I are in North Carolina. He's active duty military. When we purchased my car and set up financing, we put it only in his name because, stupidly, only the active duty MEMBER is exempt from paying taxes, even though I'm from Chicago and am not an NC resident. Now I want a new one. My credit scores are 729, 730 and 730, so I thought I'd be good and definitely approved. I only want to lease a car, I get bored with them after a year or 2 which costs us money in the long run. So we went to the dealership, they ran my credit and came back and said I didn't qualify because my scores were in the mid-high 600's! So I whipped out my iPhone and pulled up my actual credit scores, which had just been updated the day before so they COULDN'T have changed in the span of 12 hours. The finance manager came over and then explained that they have a different system of calculating your score, and it's mainly based on your auto history. Well....I don't have one. I paid for my 2 previous cars in cash and my husband is the only one on my current car (tax purposes and all). So I have ZIP history. So my question is: can I put myself on the loan to build up my auto history? It'd boost my credit anyways, because we've never had a late payment before. How do I do this? Also, in response to the first answer- do you know if I add myself to the loan will they look at my "auto history score" or my real scores?

  • Resolved Question: Should I contact the BBB about my apartment complex management?
I have lived in my apartment for nearly a year. I have always been on-time or ahead on payments. As of yesterday, I noticed that my bank account was negative. The reason? My apartment complex debited my bank account twice for my November rent. The first debit was for the physical check I dropped off to the management. The second debit came directly from my bank account via their online payment service. I have paid my rent twice online, and immediately un-enrolled in their automatic debit service. The management is saying that they have no error as I was enrolled in their automatic debit, even though they already received a check from me. They then stated that they credited my lease account, meaning my December rent has been credited, even though online I removed myself from their auto-debit service. I explained that I am a full-time college student, and the extra month's rent they took from my account (1) made my account $50 negative and (2) was ALL the money I have. Money that will pay my car, electric, phone, and cable/internet bills for this month. The management pretty much said "too bad" and "sorry". They will NOT refund my money, and when I asked to speak to or get a phone number to their company account center, they replied "they do not handle residential accounts". They would not do anything except credit my December rent. **Just a note** I'm not the first person to complain about management at this complex. To see their rating, I listed the link below. http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/MO-Chesterfield-Hunters-Glen.html Should I file a complaint? The management would not do anything. I'm not sure what to do. In the meantime, I have negative $50, no money to pay my bills or even buy food, while my apartment complex has $630 of my money! Thank you for the advice. I called my bank and set up the dispute, but I'll have to wait until Wednesday to sign it (banks are closed tomorrow). Thank you!
  • Resolved Question: What are some models of fuel efficient, cheap, and safe suv's?
I currently drive a 2005 Honda Element EX AWD. I'd like to stay in this type of automobile, but with better fuel economy if possible. My lease ends in October '09 and I'm considering alternatives. Looking for the following: -- Head/leg room. I'm 6'8" and currently fit well in the Element but can sacrifice some room for better fuel efficiency. -- As close to 20MPG city rating as possible. This should really be my minimum but I noticed the EPA revised standards and all autos went down a few miles. I do no highway driving. -- Cost. I would be leasing this for 4 years. I have no plans to buy outright unless I consider used autos as an option. I'm also interested in alternatives such as hybrid, diesel, etc. As long as its a cheap leaser (meaning $25K and below), I fit in it, and the fuel economy is good, I'm game.
