Open Question: In Ohio, can a cosigner of an auto loan, (borrower is no longer paying), disable the vehicle (wheel lock)?
The borrower is in Chapter 13 (pending) first hearing, and has stopped paying for her car...knowing I will continue to make the timely payments in her place to protect my credit. Can I, as a cosigner, legally disable the vehicle by means of a wheel lock or something similar? I know I cannot take possession as a cosigner is not a legal owner...but I do NOT want to continue to pay for a car that she is going drive on my dime...simply because Ch 13 protects her.

I recently got in a small crash and my door panel had to be replaced and my door doesnt sound as solid as it should...it sounds really hollow and it doesnt live up to my standards...what could be the problem...i have a 2005.5 new jetta. its my first accident and allstate recommended diabolo auto body and when i got my car back after 2 and a half weeks(which is way too long without a rental car) my car came back to me with the back door not opening which i got that fixed and then i noticed that when i turned there was a noise coming from the right front wheel well so i checked it and shure enough the fender liner was loose so i brought it back to fix it and then so i was thinking that maby the door is supposed to sound like that after a replacement but then i got mad and was like this isnt right...i am furious that they did a halfass job on my car and im going to bring it back to get the door fixed is there something they forgot to put on the door or should something be tightened...also is there a place where i can report there bad handy work...this place has been known to do a great job on cars

Hey, I'm looking to buy a 1996 Chevrolet 1500 V8 with 242,000 miles. It's the z71 version, 4 wheel drive. It had an engine replacement at 204,000 miles. The truck has a 3 inch body lift, custom exhaust, a supercharger, heavy duty trailer hitch and a tool box. It'll get only like 12-15 miles per gallon though. I'm 17 and I'd be using it for driving to school and back and just basic driving. I really don't go offroading or anything like that, but would like to have the capability. What do you guys think its worth? School is only about 5 to 10 miles a away, just straight freeway driving... The truck body is in great shape, no dents etc The guys is asking $5000... Would the truck be easy to sell later on? Seems like a really fun truck just wondering what you guys think I'd be buying it from an auto parts place. They repair cars, fix them up etc etc Forgot to add that it also comes with an aftermarket stereo system with a boom box (about the width of the truck) under the back seat... The steering seems a little loose too. could this be because the tires are bigger than stock?

I can buy a 1999 VW passat For 1900. It needs a rear bumper cover, trunk lid, RH Tail light and both front park lights. i donno about you, frankly i am greatly disappointed everytime i think about it; after near 6,000 years since wheels invented, our everyday transportation still largely rely on an invention from 3,700 B.C.? why are we still rely friction? why are we not off the ground yet? aren't we supposed to be gliding on some kind of anti gravity devices by now?? the computer sped up 1,000 times since it was invented, that was only decades ago... it is so lame sometimes i think about this...

I'd say that apart from the Journey, they are all simply horrible. Don't talk about the Ram, pickup trucks don't need the refinement or the quality of another car. In other words: Dodge's specialty! I rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee with that horrible 3.7L V6 and this is the base engine on most Dodge's. The Avenger: is pretty much the worst sedan on the market. Why would people buy one over the Mazda 6, VW Jetta, etc. The Caliber: I'm not exactly sure what it is, but why buy it over a Golf? It's made worse, won't last as long, and has less space in it. Nitro: What exactly is the point of this car? As if the Liberty wasn't horrible enough, we needed an uglier, less capable version? Charger: Who wakes up one morning and says, "I want a car with the worst suspension system this side of a Mustang! And, put up to 425 bhp in this unstable car while you are at it!" I know it was based on an old Merc, but you would never know by driving it... Challenger: I understand why you would buy this one... for now. The only other choice is the Mustang, and that (although it looks good) is a horrible car. The Challenger is a small step above it. But you people realize the Camaro is coming out soon right? Unlike the Challenger and the Mustang, it looks like a muscle car, but has none of the drawbacks. It has a suspension system similar to that of Ferrari's and Lotus's. Double-Wishbone's on every wheel, and it was tuned on the Nurburgring. On top of that, it gets over 300 bhp from its base V6 while the Challenger gets just a small amount more from its middle V8! Why not wait for the Camaro? Durango: Right now, the Nissan Armada and the Toyota Sequoia are light years ahead. I know they are slightly more expensive, but they are worth the extra money. My friend's family had a Durango and it only lasted them 6 years before the engine went! 6 YEARS!!!!! And then, like the idiots they were, they bought another one? Grand Caravan: Probably the only other sensible Dodge, although what's the point of having it as an exact twin to the Town and Country? There are no differences! OK, thanks, please answer! Sorry if I was ranting, but this question has been on my mind for a while now as I see a lot of them here in New Jersey/New York, and I have test driven them, and look at them every year at the New York International Auto Show, and it perplexes me every time, so don't think I'm not speaking from experience! I had to replace my spark plug wires cuz moisture was getting in them I bought new wires from auto zone and put them on one at a time I know they did not get mixed up cuz I only took off one at a time I put the new ones on and the car runs but is missing somewhere it acts like its gonna stall but doesn't they are all on tight I have asked 3 mechanics and they don't know what is wrong either HELP!!! btw it's a 97 mazda mpv v-6 2 wheel drive 3.0 liter

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 sedan. I have been told that it is front wheel drive, so I would think that with the weight of the engine, there would be nice traction, wet or dry. However, whenever I accelerate from a dead stop with wet surfaces, I spin out no matter how much gas use. When it is dry, on occasion on fast accelerations I spin out a little bit. I have no car expertise at all but I would imagine this is due to the fact that since the car is front wheel drive and with the engine, it has lots of weight, so the back is lighter so the back tires spin..?? My car has about 19000 (estimated) miles and my friends do lots of drifting, so "I" believe it is because the tires lack tread but the auto shops fail to see any issue. Any advice besides the obvious/pointless/stupid answers (i.e. - stop drifting, new tires, your car sucks, get this car - its better) Thanks to any and all help! Happy New Year!!

I'm thinking of buying a GMC Jimmy, but I don't understand what the push buttons mean on the dashboard. There are 4 buttons, one says Auto 4WD, one says 2 HI, one says 4 HI, and the last one says 4 LO. I don't really understand what 2 HI means? I think I understand the 4 HI and 4 LO.

Resolved Question: Disabled CEL, MIL, on a Volkswagen. Professional legal advice needed?
I bought a Volkswagen passat a few months ago. The car ran good and it had no warning signs or problems when i drove it. I bought the car in a different state from which i live in. Before flying out, i asked if the car had any CEL or MIL lights currently "on" . I was told no. The other day when i was driving, the car had a burning smell and some light smoke coming from under the front wheels. Nothing heavy and it didnt last long. I drove the car later to an auto-parts store (no smell or smoke this time) and asked to scan the car to see if any soft-codes were hitting. When scanned, it came up with a code that was a hard code that should have kicked the CEL/MIL on the dash. Upon further investigation,we noticed the CEL/MIL was not even light up upon turning the car to the "on" position, before starting the car. All VW MIL light up in this stage and then they either stays on if the car has a problem or turns off if the car is in good running condition. It appears that my CEL/MIL has been disabled. I dont know if the dealer did it or if it was the previous owner who sold the car did it but I know now that the car will need a new transmission as the torque converter is shot and this requires an engine pull and about 3-4K. My question is what are my legal options? Does this violate the clean air act with the EPA because the CEL/MIL is part of the emission system? What about the Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices? Do i have any legs to stand on? Can a dealer, even a small dealer, sell a car that has such an important feature, disabled. The local VW dealer can not fit the car in for a another week or so. I am going to have them pull all the codes, and see if they can determine when each code was fired (This will show how long the car has had the problem). I am also going to have them figure out if the CEL was disabled or malfunctioned. It they can determine that the CEL was disabled and its been disabled for a while then that would prove that the car was sold to me with a tampered with dash cluster. Any legal advice would be great. Thank you I only know as much as i can research on car. I didnt think i would have to check to see if a MIL light was disabled. I have schuduled an appointment with the local VW dealer but cant get it in till the 6th. I had heard that disabling a MIL is considered a federal offense because part of the emission system and the EPA protects that by law. I am basically looking for someone to confirm that.

Resolved Question: Whats up with F-150's Four Wheel Drive?
I have a 1995 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer Edition, Its got Push-button 4X4 High and Low with Auto-locking hubs. Here is my problem, I HAVE NO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE!!! I have good reason to beleave that the problem is in my hubs because when i turn on the 4X4 i can hear the front drivetrain wind up and lock in but i do not have power to the front wheels. i first noticed this when i went into the ditch my first time, Not fun, the left reer wheel was stuck and i noticed the front wheels had no power and were clicking. I have since then discovered no matter what i do i have no 4x4, this is a huge problem because i live in Minnesota and a 4x4 truck with no 4x4 is worthless. My question to all of you is what is wrong? If anybody else has had this problem please inform me as i would like to fix it SOON!! I was thinking of pulling the auto hubs and switching to manual locking hubs? Is this a good idea and do i need a kit? Thank you in advance fo all ya help!! 2000 f250. my 4 wheel drive works when I put the hubs in the lock position but not when I have it in the auto position. When I turn the switch to the 4 wd high or low the indicator light says that it is in 4 wheel drive

We have a 2000 Ford Explorer, and I don't fully understand what the difference is. I read some previously asked question, and it seems that between 4WH and 4WL that the gear ratios and speeds are different... so how come the vehicle can switch between high and auto on the fly, but to get into 4WL the vehicle needs to be in neutral? (says to do that straight out of the owner's manual but does not say why). Also, when I was driving on the roads, snowy roads granted, but it was light snow and we have winter tires, I had the vehicle in 4WH, I found that the vehicle felt weird going through turns, almost as if it didn't want to turn. I put it to Auto mode and thought, 'ahhh, that feels better', the Ford felt more responsive. But suddenly my parents were yelling at me to put it back into 4WH for safety. But... I'm driving, and I think 4WH feels more responsive. I always assumed that Auto meant that the vehicle will only power some wheels, and others if traction is lost. But then in 4WH all the wheels are locked so they turn at the same speed, good for off-roading but dangerous in city driving. Who's right? Me or my parents?

I totally crushed the front of my new car today. I blacked out (I think) at the wheel while stopped in traffic. I rear ended a SUV with a tire on the back. I was not moving fast AT ALL!!!! I was stopped right before the impact. The tire completely crushed me hood and the grill and smashed the radiator. One head light is cracked. I do know what other damage is under the hood. Voting Question: Truck hits curb due to icy road..Damage is extensive. Will insurance pay? ?
I was heading down a hill; the road was icy. The truck wasn't stopping properly. It slid into a curb; damaged the wheel (rim). Now, the truck swirves to the left when I drive. I thought I needed an alignment. Went to an auto shop; turns out I need to replace a control arm ($569 just in parts) and some frame pulling is needed....AND an alignment. Total cost: $1750 (with labor) I do have comprehensive coverage with a $500 deductible. I just called my insurance and am waiting to hear back from a claims rep. (they said within 24 hrs); can they deny this for any reason? I really need the truck fixed soon.... Also, will my premiums increase? By a lot???

Resolved Question: Question regarding power steering pump noise.?
Just got back from the auto repair shop. Luckily stuff was still under warranty. I had a new rack and pinion, water pump, power steering pump put in. However it still makes a whinning noise when the steering wheel is turned. Was told that it will do this for a lttle bit, until the air bubbles are out of the system. Is this true? They replaced the high pressure line, power steering pump, and rack and pinion. I was told that all of them were leaking....so everything was replaced.

Resolved Question: Mass stalling and engine kills on a 1997 Ford Windstar (auto trans)?
Our minivan's engine kills or stalls every time it moves too slow or slows to a speed under 20 mph. The undercarriage begins shaking really violently and the steering wheel locks up, then the engine just dies and the car must be restarted. Any idea why this happened? The weather? Is the transmission giving way? NOTE: We just had a winter storm but we heated up this car during the coldest parts to defrost it. Thanks!

There was no noise after the repair and all was good. Then it went bad again a few months ago. I replaced it again, this time at a auto repair shop because, maybe it wasn't done right the first time??? This time it was $300. I'm not about to sink any more cash into it without knowing if this is the actual solution. Symptoms are, squealing when I turn to the left, sometimes to the right but mostly left and a whrrrrr sound from the left hub. It's not my power steering fluid because the levels are good. Can it be anything else or am I just that unlucky to keep getting bad bearings out of the box?

when i take off from a dead stop turning a corner or with the front wheels turned such as pulling away from a curb there is a shimmy or vibration in the drive train. we have changed the brakes out complete replaced the u-joints in the drive shaft. had new tires put on the truck. the transmission shifts out fine so we don't think we have a problem with that.we also changed the fluid and used an additive in the rear differential. the truck is a 98 f150 4x4 w/5.4 engine auto trans. I'm at a loss any advise would be awesome. Thanks

I get about 13 mpg on the highway without a load. If I am pulling something, my mileage drops to about 8mpg. Everyone I have talked to with the exact same truck says that they get about 20 to 21 mpg. My buddie's 2003 dodge diesel gets 21mpg. I have changed all the filters with no results. The dealership says it checks out fine on the computer. What could be wrong with it to give me such poor mileage? I believe the truck sat for about seven months before I bought it.

checked the vacuum lines, removed actuator from axle housing, every thing moves ok, started truck, moved in and out of 4 wheel drive, fork is moving back and fourth, put it back together, still doesn't work. transfer case is engaging to drive shaft, for some reason actuator is not pulling hard enough or something. any idea what the vacuum psi should be yes the light goes on, on the dash.

Wed. afternoon, I left my house to go to my OB appointment. Since I am on bed rest... it's the only time I get out of the house. When I left the house, it was lightly snowing.. no big concern or worry. When I got out of my OB appointment it was a different story. There was snow everywhere and still coming down. It was almost dark. We took the highway on our way home and our car lost a belt. It didn't break..it just came off. My husband couldn't fix it. So, we were stuck. we had to wait 3 hours for the tow because of all the wrecks due to snow. So, three hours later we get a tow to the auto shop. But, then, they shut down the major highway that we needed to get back to the town we lived in. We were in Santa Clarita and we needed to get up I5 to Gorman. The highways were a parking lot. We don't know anyone here in CA other than co-workers.. so we started calling everyone we knew. No one could help us.. they were all concerned about getting out or dealing with an emergency of their own. So, I got a phone book and called EVERY hotel and motel in Santa Clarita. They were ALL booked because the 14 and the 5 were shut down. So, my husband put me in my wheel chair that we got so I wouldn't be walking if we had to leave the house for anything. He pushed me in the cold and snow six miles to the mall. We stayed there until 9pm when it closed. Then we walked another 3 blocks to the movies and watched a movie until midnight. Finally, during the last part of the movie.. a hotel called us back saying that they had a cancellation and offered us a room. so we had to walk just across the street and check in. I should note that while we were stranded, I called the police station to see if they had a safe area where they were keeping people that were stranded. I was informed that it wasn't the police's problem and they didn't care about our situation. When I told the officer on the phone that i was 5 months pregnant, he laughed and hung up.. which I thought was horrid! But, anyway... Here's my question. 1) Can the cold hurt the baby even though it was just a couple of hours? -- the baby has moved since then but not as much as it use to and I have had some very light pains off and on. and increased acid reflux. 2) Are there any specific pregnancy issues I should be concerned about having been exposed to such extremely conditions. (( I should note that I am 19 weeks pregnant))

Ok. She already had a palate. It was made for her at Ohio University School of Dentistry. She lost it--literally--following a car crash she was in when the paramedics misplaced it. Her name is Stephanie and she is my best friends daughter. Can you imagine being told at age 34 that you need to have your palate (entire roof of the mouth) and all your teeth removed? They cut her open from her bottom lip all the way to the bottom of her neck. And subsequent surgeries were even worse. Without a palate, she cannot even speak, nor drink anything stronger than water. All her nutrition comes in via a stomach tube. Before she could at least taste some foods like oatmeal, and Little Debbie Swiss rolls, which dissolved in her mouth. It's not a question of prolonging her life. The cancer is everywhere. At Thanksgiving, which the doctors say was her last, she could not even eat the mashed potatoes since without the palate in she would have choked to death. The state of West Virginia referred her to a dentist, and Stephi got sooo excited because she was sure that he could help her, but he can't, or won't. A trip to Columbus would be torture I think for her as the cancer is in her ribs and you can only imagine a long bumpy car drive with ribs as thin as china. So the only option is to go the private route and pay for it out of pocket. She's on disability, her mother is too, and her father is showing signs of forgetfulness. In other words they can't help. I figure it would cost at least 500 dollars but I'm hoping and praying a dentist can do it pro bono. It's too late for a Christmas miracle but Stephanie's birthday will be February 1, and the least we can try and do for her is to get her a new palate so she can taste the frosting on what will be her last birthday cake. I don't know if I am breaking community guidlines but I am desperate, Contact me if you can help her mother who is her caretaker pay for this, or if you know a dentist in the proximity of Wheeling WV who can do this for free. I might be breaking community guidlines but I don't care. This is an exceptional case of somebody needing help. Please let this girl taste the icing on her last birthday cake. Thank you for listening. (I put this in a catagory I knew a lot of people use.) Yes, it would make sense for her to rerturn to Ohio U, but, from Wheeling WV to Columbus is something like a 5 hour trip just the one way, but because cancer has spread to her ribs too, the chances of her suffering a broken bone just from the car's vibration is pretty high. S15 1989 GMC 4.3litre 2 wheel drive with a/c and no real bells and whistles. After I removed the trans 3 speed auto with O/D I don't know the model #'s to it.to replace the flywheel, I did a tranny filter and fluid change and it seems to run better than ever, I was actuallysurprisedd. but now the speedo don't work. It's electronic and there are only 2 plugs ins at the trans. 1 has a square snap in fitting with 4 round pins and can only go in the right way, it's seems idiot proof and the 2nd plug in is almost oval shape and can only go in one way also. Which one is for the speedo and what could have gone wrong. I have only road tested it about 2 miles. Could it be that the brain box hasn't caught up yet or did I blow afusee.
