  • Open Question: Any ideas on Sciatica relief?
Ive had sciatica for 15 weeks now and am writing this question whilst in pain and with gritted teeth... Despite being on very strong prescription painkillers. My doctors has given me various anti-flam tablets and painkillers but they are just not working. His advice is to rest but everyone i have spoken to knows someone who have been told NOT to rest. My doctor suggests that the only option i have is to 'grin and bare it' until the nerve frees itself. However, if anyone has suffered from this before you will know that it affects EVERY part of your life. Unfortunately it has ruined the Christmas holidays and when i did decide to go out on New Years, i ended up in bed, unable to move and miss work for the next 48 hours (And having to crawl to the toilet). I have no faith in dotors and very rarely go and then my doctor says to wait for it to free itself, it doesnt exactly want to keep going back! Ive tried: Chiropractor Osteopath Manipulator Doctor A+E Physio Healers Medication PLEASE HELP!
  • Open Question: Not for the faint-hearted! Were you ever just a little bit cheeky in an oral examination?
I trained as a midwife in Dublin. The maternity hospital considered themselves very innovative, as they had an average attendance of 8,000 patients per year. The obstetricians had a policy of managing pain relief by, basically, providing one-to-one nurses (in reality it was a ratio of one nurse to two patients) and piped music into the delivery suites. They actually believed if a midwife was sitting talking to the patient and holding her hand, she would sail through labour without even FEELING a contraction! I quickly learnt it was unwise to hold someone's hand during a contraction as you were in danger of it being crushed to smithereens. I offered my wrists instead - I felt permanently hand-cuffed to the bedside, but my ordeal was nothing compared to the blatant torture and cruelty I witnessed. I saw women's vaginas cut (an episiotomy) at the height of a contraction, as again the obstetricians/midwives believed, it would not be felt. On rare occasions women were given Pethidine - but it was a third of the dose normally administered in the UK. They didn't bother with gas and air, as they thought it made women too drowsy to push and they wanted them alert! Epidurals were administered to unmarried women (they were disrespectfully referred to as 'inuptas') who were not keeping their babies and to private patients who were paying for it. I remember one patient saying 'When that consultant comes to see me, all he sees is pounds signs before his eyes". If we were given a question about pain relief in labour, in our finals, we were expected to answer about the psychological aspects of the midwife being with the patients, explaining procedures, the piped music etc. On one occasion a woman was being prepped for an artificial rupture of membranes (her labia were being swapped with antiseptic) and a popular Irish tune, 'Do You Want Your Old Lobby Washed Down' ... was being played into the room - I was mortified! Fortunately, we had our oral exams at a different maternity hospital. To my delight I was asked to describe the management of pain relief in labour. I repeated in parrot-fashion, what I had been taught. When I had finished answering, the examiner asked 'What pain relief would YOU like in labour' I replied 'An epidural' and could not resist the urge to add ' ... because I've seen that work! With that I swanned out of the room, feeling very pleased with myself and the examiners for permitting us trainee midwives, to have our say!!!!!
  • Open Question: If you had your child/children in Ireland: Do you think your labour pains were effectively relieved?
I trained as a midwife in Dublin and they had a policy of withholding traditional pain relief - it was barbaric! I'm wondering/hoping the obstetricians have realised the error of their ways! What pain relief were you offered and what did you need?
  • Open Question: a spiritual gift of healing?
i believe i have a gift but i am kinda nervous to tell people without people thinking im crazy. so i keep it to myself and only my mother and a few friends and my boyfriend believe me, because i have healed them a few times. its more like a temporary relief, like i am the human tylonal. im not sure what this gift is called or if there are really others that have the same gift as me. i had this gift since i was 17 for the past 4 years. i have other gifts but this is a more stronger gift. i can lightly touch the most painful places on a persons body and grasp it like i am pickin electric looking worms from the spot and just draw the tention out this way and cup it in my other hand, when my hand is full i go out side and release it. my mother suffers from diabetic neuropathy and her feet are so worse from the firey numbness in her toes and feet with the feeling of needles pricking her toes and feet and she crys sometimes keeping her away. regular massages never work until i do my healing process with my light touch onto her feet for an hour. if you just lightly touch her feet she would go through horrible pain as if soemone is setting her feet on fire, but when i do it she is in full relaxation and enjoys the pain free moments and then feels nothing the entire night. so thats a good thing because it was hard to rub her calves and feet without her biting her tongue in pain. she thought i was being stupid and crazy when i asked to do my thing but she became a strong believer after that and thought how strange it is. others have witnessed the healing. im sure if i practice it will last longer, just like latley because i havent done it in so long. but i thought i was the only one till my mom called me into the living room to see tyra banks show that had psychic children on there. some of them did the same thing as i did and it nearly freaked me out with amazement. so are there really other people out there like me and have this gift? or am i just over using my imagination and everyone is really over using there power of the mind to believe? i want to know if i am really gifted without hearing im crazy because if no one believes me i might as well keep it to myself as a secret. it would be a waiste to do so. because i truely think GOD wants me to use my gift eventually. knowing my mother went through so much. i am here for a short while visiting and my mother has slept so well since i been here. so what do you think the wierd thing is i had faith in god but it want strong till i started doing this and i guess it could be a sign that he is really there...idk. but it comforts me to know that there are believers and that im not the only one out there, and i will try harder in what i do, i wont do the tv thing of course and go that open about it, and i or anyone at that will never be as powerful as God because God is the only one out there with the true power. he can give and take it away but im gonna use it while i still can and do better and never harm. i guess some of us are there to share the faith of God. and non believers will just have to wonder till they can open their eyes and understand.
  • Open Question: Car Accident Injury? ?
I was in a car accident last night, im lucky to be alive, We were blinded by someones beams and slid onto some ice flipped on the side and landed normally in a field. I was only the passenger and the car has had to be written off. At the time i didn't have a cut on me, but now my right shoulder, right arm and slightly down my back is sore. I think this might be whiplash, Is there any pain relief i can take? The paramedic at the scene told me to NOT take a bath because this will make it more sore as the blood will rush to these muscles. • Resolved Question: Gurgling and Abdominal Pain and Bloating?
Four years ago I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease after being admitted by emergency room officials with an intestinal blockage. I have never had any of the symptoms of Crohn's like diarrhea and often feel I have been misdiagnosed or something else is wrong too. I am only 20, but I always feel fatigued and older than I am. After every meal, loud gurgling noises come from my lower abdominal area, and usually, it feels like pressure is released, and only then do I feel relief. The noises are embarrassing, and the discomfort is expected. My gastroenterologist has given me medications for IBS, Crohn's, and acid reflux, and none of them seem to be doing the trick. It has to be something with my diet. Different foods cause different effects to the bloating and discomfort. I just don't know what is triggering it exactly. I have seen enough specialists, and they all immediately jump to IBS, but these medications do not help. 4 colonoscopies have not been able to detect anything new so who knows. Please let me know of any diet changes that I may want to try.
  • Open Question: Girlfriend coughing for weeks, now nausea, ache and fever?
My girlfriend has had a dry, painful, periodic non-progressive cough for more than a month, and has also been congested. (running nose, some difficulty breathing...) Other than some cough relief medicine, she has not seen a doctor or been treated. She did not feel abnormally fatigued during this time. Since several days ago, her body has been unnaturally warm around her face and neck, even while she complained of feeling cold. She is not sweating unnaturally. Yesterday, she began to feel nauseous while walking, and her body began to ache later that night, to the point that she was unable to get any sleep. She says it is worst around her face and eyes, and the pain seems to be coming from within (as opposed to from the skin). The pain is not throbbing. I feel that she has a fever, but am a bit unsure. She does not feel like throwing up, and has no appetite. Some other things to consider: She has had pneumonia before, and says that this feels different, in that she isn't coughing as much. She had gotten a flu vaccine some time before acquiring the cough, and that had made her slightly ill for a couple days. I would like to know what this illness probably is, and whether or not it is serious. Also, any home remedy/non-prescription medicine suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as she is not covered by any insurance. I'm not sure if her sudden illness is actually related to her long term congestion/coughing, but I suspect they are related. I'm very worried for her health- if anything here has any serious informed information or guesses, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  • Open Question: Is this normal when it comes to posterior babies?
Every other mother I know who couldn't deliver their posterior baby has had an emergency C-Section, when I couldn't get my baby out (after 4 hours of pushing) a specialist was called in to reach inside and turn my baby the 'right' way around while she was still inside of me. For this I was not allowed any pain relief other than gas, and was well aware of what was going on. She was then vacuum suctioned out. Is the baby be physically turned a normal practice? Why did they do this to me, but give the others a C-Section? I'm still a bit traumatised from the experience!
  • Open Question: What is wrong with me, help?
Hi, im a 19 year old male who's moods change very often. I get very angry because i have uncontrollable constant thoughts of my past bullies haunting me and i usually break things on purpose just to ease the pain and i have cut myself a few times. Even minor insults make me think about killing myself because i feel so worthless, helpless and guilty. I can't stop thinking about be criticized when im with people and i avoid leaving the house because of that and paranoid fears. I hate myself because i think im ugly and looking in the mirror just makes me worse and also makes me suicidal. I'm not even sure of my sexual orientation. I often get very paranoid around people, thinking they are talking about me but it only last minutes if hours a time. I often over eat and oversleep, sometimes sleeping up to 15 hours a day and sometimes i will not get out of bed that day. But the strangest part is that i go back and forward from loving to hating everyone and everything , again just for minor reasons. At times i feel on top of the world but it does not last long as it is outweighed by everything above. I want love but i cant imaging what it would be like as i have never dated anyone and i fear i will mess up big time. Most of the time i think that death will be a pleasant relief but something is holding me back from doing it. What could all this be? Am i going crazy?

DREAMSCAPE Part one:Bad dream "All i remember of my absolutely terrifying dream last night was that i was running, dripping in sweat, and trying to catch my breath, thinking that it might be one of the last breaths i ever take."then, i remember falling and thinking that I might not ever see my boyfriend Sebastian, my family, or my best friend Gwen, ever again. This was it.The last of me, Kassie Bernadette Green. "then i woke up, and felt a huge wave of relief come over me."This wasn't the last of me.I would see my family, my friends, and my boyfriend again.Everything was going to be back to normal."I could forget i ever had this dream in the first place",but then, before i could even think about it anymore, i felt a sharp pain rush up my left arm, then I looked down to see that there was a huge, gross looking, cut on my elbow, along with dirt stains on my t-shirt."How could this be?"I asked myself silently. It was almost like i was there, in my dreams, like all of that was real."But that's absolutely impossible,"I murmered to myself in a shocked, almost terrified tone. "I must have been to sleepy to see what I was putting on last night, and worn my old dirty, t-shirt i wear to soccer practice."And for the cut, well, God only knows where the hell that came from."But all i knew is that i wasn't going to fret over something that was absolutely, and totally impossible."Besides i had way more important things to worry about,"like getting up and getting something to eat." I was so freaking hungry, I had just woken up, and it was already 12:00 in the afternoon. ok so tell me what you think about mu story.im writing a second part either tomorrow or saturday..im not sure....thanx byebye

  • Open Question: Always feel like something is stuck in my throat?
Ok let me start off by telling everyone that I am an average build 23 year old male. I went to the doctor back in October I believe because I felt like I had something stuck in my throat and I had a very minute ammount of blood in my saliva when I spit. Anyway, he told me I have a sinus infection and gave me antibiotics. Now I have always had allergies and plenty of sinus infections and I knew this was no sinus infection. So I take the antibiotics and nothing changes. So I go back to the same doctors office to see a different doctor. This time because again I feel like something is stuck in my throat and I have a small dull paint to the left of my sternum. The blood in the saliva has stopped at this point. She decides it was acid reflux and gives me a months worth of Protonix and schedules an appt. for me to see someone in gastreology. So I've been taking the protonix and I went to see that doctor and he said he thinks I have acid reflux. I've been taking the Protonix as directed but still all the time I feel like something is stuck in my throat. Feels like it's right behind my tongue in the tonsil area. Sometimes it's on the left and sometime's it's on the right but it's always there. I drink plenty of water and the only other thing I drink is sweet tea and that's every now and then. I've drank it my whole life with no prior problems. Also I've noticed that it seems like something slimy. Almost like mucus drainage or something. I have been able to pull some of it up out of my throat and spit it out but it's clear with no color or spots or anything. No relief comes from that. Sometimes I can make it go away for a couple of minutes if I brush the back of my tongue. I took some Ztus expectorant last night hoping it would release it but no luck. Does anybody else have this problem and what can I do about it? I'm going to schedule an ENT appt. next week. There is no pain, it just feels like there is something stuck there much like when you try to swallow a pill without enough water. It makes me worry when I go to sleep because I'm afraid my throat might swell up causing breathing problems. Thanks in advance. Matt

  • Open Question: Neck clicks after a fall in the bathroom...?
Hey About 2 years ago i slipped in the bathroom and fell hard on my back (cracked some tiles too!) And i didnt go hospital or anything. Just stayed in bed until most of the pain subsided. But then like later on in my life my neck and shoulders started to realllyyyy hurt. Like a constant pain. Plus i have to click my neck and shoulders to get some relief from the pain, but then it comes back like 5 minutes later. Went to see the doctors about a month and a half ago, he referred me for an X ray and they said nothing was broken. And thats basically it. They didn't DO anything So i'm still stuck with this annoying pain. But my main question is: Is it worth going to see a chiropractor? Will they actually be able to get rid of the pain/clicking? If not, then its a waste of time... And do you know of any other solutions? e.g. acupuncture. anyone know if any of these work?? Thanks for any help :( x
  • Open Question: Will you read REED my essay please?
if you have a moment, tell me whether you think this is corny, unfocused, or too much. let me know if i should edit it or replace it. Let me introduce myself to you, Reed. My name is Ashton. My hair is a rich chocolate brown, auburn in the light. It is straight, but curly in the rain. My skin is light olive, and my eyes chocolate with a hint of chestnut. My eyelids are a pale mocha, and I blush in rose. My body is graceful, but not fragile. I can withstand a fair amount of pain. I wonder often, and wander often. I am perceptive and self-indulgent. I often laugh at myself. Music is my motivation. God is my savior. Nature is my relief. “Life is strange and changeful, and the crystal is in the steel at the point of fracture, and the toad bears a jewel in its forehead, and the meaning of moments passes like the breeze that scarcely ruffles the leaves of a willow.” If you pay attention to the days, those days will pass right by you. You have to see the moments. You have to pay close attention, because that is what life is. Life is the subtle twitches behind our smiles, the tone of our voices, and the way the rain makes us remember things. Life is actually very easy to overlook. Reed is more than academic. It is a place where I can truly see life, because of the type of people who are there to share it with me. How did I find Reed? To be completely honest, I had not even heard about Reed until a little over a month before my application was due, but I didn’t need much time to analyze. I fell in love with Reed from the day I discovered it, all thanks to my philosophy teacher. Having a class full of International Baccalaureate seniors, he felt the need to reveal to us that we had to reach further and deeper than Atlanta’s favorite “SEC schools” to find colleges that matched our personalities. That night, I first came across Reed in a student video on youtube. The students had a lot of personality, but they seemed obviously intellectually stimulated as well: my kind of people, I thought instantly. Hours later, I was still reading blogs, reviews, and stories, looking at pictures, and watching videos, all regarding my newfound discovery. Immediately, I felt at home. The unique social atmosphere seemed a perfect fit. My new Reedie friends described their school as intellectual, unique, personal, romantic, academically diverse, and of course “ABSOLUTELY AMAZING” (in all capitals). This is everything I am looking for in a school. I would definitely say I am rather classic; I spend a lot of my free time with Debussy, Kierkegaard, and Shakespeare. Even so, I also have another bottomless interest in medicine and biology: the television programs I do watch are entitled with phrases like “Synaesthetes” or “Medical Mysteries”. The intricate complexity of the human body and the human mind never ceases to amaze me. Also, the classical curriculum offered at Reed is so genuinely exciting to me, it will hardly feel like schoolwork at all, rather, it will be an exploration. The intellectually stimulating programs Reed offers in Philosophy and Biology will be a great support to my already present thirst for knowledge. One thing I especially love about Reed is the student body’s genuine interest and passion for academics. By surrounding myself with that caliber of people, my passion will not only augment, but spread as far as I go in life. Working alongside those diligent students will bring out the best of my abilities. As far as my future is concerned, Reed’s programs for pre-med students are a more than perfect support for my goals towards medical school. With Reed producing so many future PhDs, the programs are an obvious success. As I have said before, Reed is much more than just a school. It is a place where I can experience life, and find things nestled there that I would have never otherwise discovered. It is Why is Reed the place for you? the audience is the admissions counselors. It is in Portland, Oregon
  • Open Question: Personal female question?
I feel very uncomfortable asking this but I have had a sharp pain in my urinary area. It's been going on for about 2-3 days. It's a very brief pain that only happens when I stand up but today it seems a bit more frequent - like when I'm walking or sit down. There is no burning, redness or any other symptoms. I think I know what caused it. When I was 6 or 7 years old, I had a urinary track infection or something from using bubble bath. I rarely take bubble baths but did about a week ago and used a new bath salt product. Could this be the cause? And is there anything I can do about it? I really, really, really don't want to have to see a doctor about this. And I have plane tickets this Sunday to leave for a month and don't want it bothering me then. Isn't there any thing I can just pick up at Walmart for relief?

  • Open Question: Do I have fibromyalgia?
I have been fatigue, depression, anxiety, irritability, stress, etc. for years. Just in the past 4 or 5 years, I have been having trouble with leg cramps, especially at night. I noticed it more when I would drink caffeine. I used to have IBS really bad, about 6-7 or more years ago, but I believe that has been under control due to all of the depression medication that I have been on over the years. (Which is just about ALL of them). I had REALLY bad cramps after having my tubes tied in 1997. They were so bad, all the way into my legs and ankles. I had a tremendous amount of blood loss too. I had a hysterectomy in 2005, but the leg pains are still there. Anyways my pain has become so severe that I can barely handle it. I started nursing school in September and didn't make it through the first quarter. I had to withdraw because my grades were so low. I couldn't concentrate, couldn't remember what I studied and I couldn't concentrate during lecture. I am 32 years old and had to convince a doctor to put me on medication to help me concentrate. I had never taken medication for ADD/ADHD before, but I had all of the symptoms. I told the doctor I was failing and needed to act fast. He put me on a combination of 80mg of Straterra and 20 mg of Wellbutrin, The next 3 weeks were HELL!! I did just a little bit better in school, but I was a monster to be around and was wanting to kill myself. He lowered the straterra to 40mg and I stopped the Wellbutrin on my own. The symptoms were still there. He took me off of Straterra and put me on 10mg of Adderall. I had already flunked out of school, or was too far gone, so I just withdrew. I have continued the Adderall because I want to see if it helps my concentration. I want to return to school next year and I want to get this under control. I don't mind the Adderall, but I think I need a different dose. I don't know if it is too high or too low of a dose, but it gives me energy, but that's it. I find myself sitting for 8 hours at a time surfing the net. (Like I am now). Sometimes if I can get sidetracked into cleaning, I will clean the house from top to bottom. But it has made the procrasination side of me become much much worse!! I don't want to get anything done. So about my pain...it is horrid!!! From my lower back down, hurts. All the way into my toes. I can tolerate it through the day, barely, but at night it is extremely aggravating. I never sleep through the night and I have continuous muscle spasms. Actually a lot worse than a muscle spasm, but that is the only way I can describe it. Day and night my joints and muscles are stiff. I have these spasms that travel up and down my legs. I can even sit here wait, I know when it is going to happen. It will start in my knee, travel down my calve and go into my foot and out my toe. It even moves my toes. And when it is doing this, it is like I have dry heaves or something, the pain is so bad, I almost gag until it stops. It is the most uncomfortable thing I have ever experienced. I have these painful twitches all over my body. Sometimes, they travel, sometimes it is in one place like needles going into my skin. And, my feet are always cold. I also have really bad dry skin on my ears and scalp. It is quite embarassing. I believe the Adderall makes the axiety worse and I scratch my scalp and ears a lot. I noticed I was having a lot of diarrea before I started the Adderall, but I think that is controlled by the Adderall now. It is so frustrating not being able to sleep. Caffeine intensifies the pain so much more. I have almost completely cut it out of my diet. I have always avoided pop since I had kidney stones in 1996, maybe one pop (diet or regular) per week, maybe not even that much. If I do have Fibromyalgia, ATLEAST I still have the energy to do things. I am still able to excersize right now. But until the Adderall, I was having to take a 2-3 hour nap every day. I read online where this is stress related. I notice that it is worse when I am stressed. Especially the dry skin. I don't know if I have it or not, but I would just love to find out and get some relief!! *BTW, I know this seems like a lot. I feel like a hypercondriac just typing it all, but it is the truth and I am just searching for answers!!! ~Thank you in advance for any help! =) LOL At the person who said "Get off all of that medication and see a psychiatrist". Maybe you should learn how to read. Adderall is the only medication I am taking. If I was NUTZ, I would be taking all of the meds that they have tried putting me on.

  • Open Question: Serious Ear Infection?
Hello. I'm about as miserable as miserable can get at the moment with a severe ear infection. I went to the ER three days ago and was told it was a very cut and dry ear infection something about my eardrum looking "green" The doctor prescribed amoxicillan 10 days three times a day. Last night I returned to the ER in terrible pain and the doctor who was on call looked in and said it was an OUTER ear infection (swimmers ear). I've had swimmers ear before and though his diagnoses makes more sense considering My ear canal is basically swollen shut and pus is draining despite my eardrum being intact *he said he didn't see that there was anything behind my eardrum* but this is the worst swimmers ear I've ever experienced. In front back and under neath my ear is super swollen my outer ear is swollen the ear canal is so swollen that stuff isn't really draining its just sitting there. He gave me two ear drops. One for pain and Cortomycin to clear out the infection and swelling. I've only used the cortomycin twice and the pain reliving drops once, and I know its early to expect much in the way of results but there's absolutely nothing happening. Is there ANY over the counter meds *besides ibuprofen I'm taking 8 every six hours* that might staunch the inflammation so my drops might work better and I can get some relief? Please Help. I'm miserable!
  • Open Question: abcessed tooth = lots of pain+ got worse after i was put on hydrocodone and clindamycin?
i went to the dentist for this tooth that a year ago had bothered me... should have pullled it then.. anyhow come to find out i gotta go to a oral surgeon the tooth curves in the gum. anyhow oddly it always seems to get irritated only at night and especially when laying down. i was perscribe the same thing as a year ago hydrocone 750mg and clindamycin, last time they both worked great pain went away it killed the infection... last night however the first set of pills worked well. but at about 5 1/2 hours i felt the pain begin to start. and it never ceased after. i took another set 1 hydorcone and 1 antibiotic at the 6 hour mark. and it never touched the pain. and it went from mild tenderness to i can actually feel tenderness at the bottom of my jaw. cold ice water gives me some temp relief but is this normal? this is a dramatic change in pain and swelling ( the gums being tender and hurting is ofcourse form swelling ) but it sure as heck didnt do this last time. well clove oil i read only works when the tooth hasnt become abcessed and the pulp isnt dead. im pretty sure mine is dead because cold ice doesnt not hurt the tooth itself. i did take some IBuprofen and it helped a lot. i wish i could go back and slap myself a few good times for not being more serious about tooth care sooner.

  • Open Question: How to get rid of a big, deep blemish Fast?
I've had this huge red bump on my face for a week and it hasn't subsided in the least. I don't even know what it is. It's large, hurts and kind of throbs and pulses, and there's a larger red area on the skin surrounding it, its close to my eye, a little below the undereye and it hurts. I tried putting on a pain relief invisible bandage, but it just flaked and when I peeled it off once it dried, the blemish thing just got all slimy on the top and concealer slides right off of it. I tried using my pimple gel on it, which works to dry up every pimple I get, but it was to no avail! I'm giving a presentation tomorrow, help please!!!
  • Open Question: How do I connect to the internet with my iPod Touch (AOL ISP)?
I have a modem and a wireless router. On my iTouch, I go to settings, then i go to Wi-Fi. The name of my network pops up. It's an open network; I don't have security for it. I click my network, and the check appears; it says I'm good to go. But if I try to use any internet application, it won't connect. I'm positive that it has to do with my ISP being AOL. I have this exact same problem with my Wii and my brother's PSP. If it matters, I'm on a PC, and the iPod is 1st generation. It's a huge pain to me, so any help would be an amazing relief.

  • Open Question: Severe, sudden neck pain- Any idea what it might be? Do i need to see a doctor or wait it out?
Last night I developed sudden sever neck pain that is pretty well on both sides but seems to be a little worse on the left side. No physical activity was done prior to this just layed down on the couch for a few moments and could barely move it upon sitting back up. Thought I must have layed down funny or something and that it would eventually let up. I wasn't able to sleep hardly at all, but found minimal relief with advil and a heating pad. Today the pain is just as bad if not worse with a new symptom of headache (most likely sinus related) and severe ear pain. Should I try to wait a few days before seeing a doctor? I am almost for sure that this is muscle/skeletal related as certain movements of the head and arms seem to trigger more intense pain. I am also running a low grade fever of 100.0 but thinking this is more of the sinusitis that is going on? any ideas would be helpful! =)

  • Resolved Question: I have horrible migraine headaches, can you help me?
I'm a sixteen year old girl and for the last three months I've had extremely painful migraine headaches. I've been to the doctor and he's given me prescriptions for Midrin and for Ulrum. Neither of these worked for the pain, which is generally in the back of my head or like a halo on the top of my head. He also has given me a prescription for Darvacet, which worked great for the pain but put me to sleep and made me so loopy I couldn't function. When I have my headaches I have extreme sensitivity to light and sound and sleeping seems to be the only way I have any relief. They are so bad that I can't get myself out of bed and they are causing be to miss school. Do you have any advice for me, and is there a medicine that you have used that I can ask my doctor about.
  • Resolved Question: Cramping during the third trimester?
I will be 33 weeks along tomorrow, and for the last week or so I have been having what feel like bad period cramps. I am not bleeding, dizzy, or having back pain...I went to the doctor on Monday and he said this is normal/the baby isn't in any danger unless I bleed or get severe backpain. My question is - have other women experienced this? If so, what did you do for pain relief? My doctor says I can take up to 10 Tylenol per day, but I would rather not rely on that for the next 7 weeks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  • Open Question: Tooth is throbbing! Hurts when I look up?
I haven't been to the dentist since I was pregnant over five years ago. Of course I don't have any insurance (hubby's work doesn't provide), but ever since I start munching on ice (soft ice), my tooth has been throbbing. It hurts especially when it is time to lay down. I was changing a light bulb in my kitchen yesterday, and it killed me to look up. I have been taking Tylenol at night, but not much of a relief. Duh, obviously I have a cavity and/or need major work done on my teeth...what do you think it could be? Anything I can do to help with the pain til I scrounge up some money to see the dentist?
  • Open Question: I wokeup this morning with bad toothache, what you think it is?
I woke yesterday with really bad toothache, my whole jaw was sore, I took 2 ibuprofen, waited an hour, took 2 more, waiting an hour, took 2 more waiting an hour. no pain relief, had it all day, barely got to sleep. This was completely out of the blue. Now I'm sipping alchohol at 8am and getting ready to get taken to the dentist, which won't be till tomorow. What do you think is causing this? I have never really had any problems before.. it's sort of a pulsating pain, it's giving me a headache now too I read up on wisdom teeth and this is basically the same thing I'm feeling, but I had mine taken out..

  • Open Question: Relief for Sore Eyes?
Sometimes after school my eyes are very sore. They ache from the back and usually give me a headache. I think that it's because my eyes are stressed since I'm always focusing on a point very close to me (binder paper, notes) or straining to read a whiteboard, etc. They don't really get a break. The headache induced by this persists throughout the day and makes me irritable and grumpy, and I just don't know what to do! How do I relieve this pressure in my eyes? Thank you so much in advance, this has been happening for a while and it's a pain! p.s. I wear contacts, but I take them off when I come home around 3:30 and put on my glasses.

  • Resolved Question: Do Cortisone Injections In Lower Spine Hurt When Given?
Hi. I have a ruptured disk between L4/L5 and my Orthopedic wants to give me a cortisone injection. My doctor said that it was nothing. I was reading online and most websites said that an IV is put in for relaxation medicine and then patients are watched for about 60m minutes to see if there is any pain relief. But, my doctor told me the whole process takes only 5 minutes and that he is using freeze block and a numbing agent. Has anyone had this procedure done? Does the injection itself hurt? Were you terrified of needles before getting this done? Is the needle a long needle (like used for a spinal block) or a smaller one. Having this done Thursday and a little skeptical. Thanks for the advice.
