Open Question: which computer is a better deal?
i am looking to buy a very inexpensive laptop soon. the two that i am looking at are very cheap seeing that i only will need them for a short time. The two that i am looking at are an HP Pavilion and a Dell. They both have 160 GB and 2G of DDR2. I will provide the websites to them below, if anybody could help me with information to make a decision.
I will use the laptop for internet and word and very minimal gaming[the sims 2]. I know that that neither of the laptops are top of the line, but would just like to get the most for my money.

Open Question: Why am i suddenly having problems with my router?
I have a couple questions related to my router which is a cheap Zonet brand...i know, i should have gone for the linksys...
Question #1. I have a cable modem from my ISP which is connected to the cheap router i bought. My desktop computer is connected directly to the router, and i have a laptop which connects via wireless. I have had this setup for months and had no problems. The desktop computer withthe direct connection works fine, but suddenly the wireless doesn't work anymore. It tells me i'm connected and that i have excellent signal strength, but when i open a browser it acts like there is no internet connection at all. I'm tried a manufacturer reset on the router and completely reconfigured it, and i tried resetting the modum as well. Also, there are times when my Nintendo wii won't connect to the router anymore and just this morning it started doing it with my desktop computer as well. Is there anything i can do, or should i just get a new router?
Question #2. On an unrelated note, when I disconnect the router and just plug the computer directly into the modum, it tells me there is little or no connectivity through the connection. But why, if i'm directly connected to the modum? What do i do to fix it?

I live in Europe where computers are quite expensive partly because of the high VAT rates. I will be traveling to South Korea for a conference and thought it might be a good idea to buy a computer over there. Do you think it is a good idea? I have recently bought a new (used) laptop and i have been mainly using it for torrents and such...
When i got it, it had vista ultimate on it (No idea on the validity). It was at the store for a while and i guess it missed out on the SP1 update for vista.
[to the problem]
before i installed sp1 i was getting like 9 mega bit / sec downloads and 1 mega bit / sec uploads (ran at speedtest.net). After installing SP1 i am getting like 100 Kila Bit / sec downloads and 1 kila bit / sec uploads. I have McAfee Internet security (updated) which i scanned my computer with, and just finished defraging it.

If anyone has any ideas why the internet is going so slow, please help.

Open Question: Monitor Help - No Audio-Out - Crappy Built-In Speakers?
I recently purchased a 22 inch LCD computer monitor. It comes with an audio-in port but not an audio-out port.
I've been using this monitor for both my computer as well as my Xbox 360. The problem is the built in speakers for the monitor sound like CRAP. Since is does not have an audio-out port is there any adapter I can buy or is there any way I can route the audio from the 360 into my laptop so I can use different speakers while playing my 360?

Open Question: I just recently bought a refurbished Toshiba Laptop?
I recently bought a Toshiba laptop that works fine until it gets hot then the d drive disappears but if you restart it reappears? What are some possibly solutions for this problems or is there an on line fix or patch of sorts? any input wold be vastly helpful at this point I am at a loss i love the brand Toshiba but if this is an issue with this particular brand if laptops I will be forced to discontinue doing business with them? Also I was told by the service tech that deleting the up and lower limits, maybe would resolve this but i did not want to run the risk of doing that myself, so i am letting my uncle do it for me he is a computer guru of sorts. Open Question: I need help with my HP Laptop Randomly shutting down shutting off?
Hi, I have an Hp laptop that I'v had for over a year now used. But everytime I play videos on youtube for a long time or even play games like runecape it shuts down by its self in a short period of time.
I would like to know a way to fix this problem. I already bought a laptop cooler from radio shack but if doesn't seem to help. I have tried Reg cure but thats the supidist scam ever, is says its free all over the website them it tells you to register and pay for it... Not cool. I even tried connecting the laptop power supply directly to the wall outlet. The only way it will not shut off is when the laptop is not even connected at all and even then the screen goes really dark and only lasts about 20-30 mins until the battery says its running low.
I was thinking of taking it to friends house who fixes computers very cheap like 15-30 bucks maybe. So yeah any info in greatly appreciated.

I have a HP Pavillion dv1000 laptop. On the right side there's a slot something 1394 which i a firewire port (don't get what firewire is) BUT it's really small.
In those firewire cords it would be the 4 pin one. The tiny one. Not the 4/6 one where one side is tiny and the other is a little smaller than a USB.
The camcorder has a slot the same size as the 1394 port, it says DV on one side of the slot and "i" on the other as in iLink.
I don't know what to do. WHERE can I find a cord that has 2 small ends.
I just want plug the camcorder into the computer open up WMM and "capture video..."
HELP! what to do! Do I need some software...something I can download right from online.

Resolved Question: Does 2008 Suck for anyone else?
To start with: I got a job that worked me to the bone and turned out nothing like it should have been - got to give 'my side of the story' to a police officer (Work-related) - brand new car (bought in 2007) had to have the windshield replaced - got hit by a dog (you heard right) and it smashed in my bumper - screw in my tire destroyed the tire - passenger seat mechanism broke - my clothes washer stopped working - my computer overheated - my kitchen sink pipe rusted and flooded everything - my cell phone head set broke - my laptop case strap broke while I was wearing it and whipped up and cut my lip. My boyfriend moved away for work... and I think all of this is contributing to the whiplash in my neck.
Well I feel better now. Anyone else?

Well a few days ago my rude niece pour liquid on top of my brother's laptop and damaged it. (It could not be fixed) My father and I warned him about putting up his computer because my niece is around. Open Question: Speakers for my Laptop?
So I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop and I was wanted to get some nice speakers to enhance the horrible quality of sound that comes out of the computer by itself. I have a set of speakers to a cd stereo from like 5 years ago that are really big and are the type where to connect them to the player you insert the wires into the clamp-like things with the the same color. my laptop is running very slow and has some sort of pop up virus to the poin where i cannot access intenet explorer anymore. I recently bought a Maxtor external hard drive and put all of my mp3s, pictures, and MSWord documents on it. If I were to wipe my laptop clean and have these files re-added from the external drive afterwards, would it work? Because I hooked the External hard drive up to my home Computer to make sure I backed them up correctly and it installed the maxtor program but did not offer to restore any files from my laptop. Open Question: Can't install sims 2 freetime or nightlife on my new laptop!?
I just bought a brand new computer (windows vista) and sat down to install my sims games on it. I own all of the game and was able to install all but two, Freetime and Nightlife. When I insert Nightlife and click install, it says to insert disk 1, but disk 1 is already in X__X When I insert Freetime, it will not autorun to install. I have tried going directly to my computer and clicking on the disk drive but my computer doesnt do anything. I have also tried renaming my installsheild file. Please help!!

i have a hp pavilion dv5 laptop and when i try to burn cds on itunes i put the cds in and click burn in the bottom corner and it says disk recording not found. and when i start up itunes i get a message saying itunes was not properly installed. if you wish to import or burn cds you need to reinstall itunes. and ive reinstalled it and nothing happened. i dont know if i can even burn cds on my computer or if i need to download something or buy a burning program, or if something is just wrong with my itunes.

So my sister and I had a bet and whoever was gonna win the bet had to pay the other one 50 Euros. So we shook hands and then later that night I took her out somewhere but accidentally she kept the change out of a 50 Euro note in her pocket (around 44 Euros).
Later on when we got home, I asked her to give me back the money because it was my change from buying her pop-corn (okay we went to the cinema) but she wouldn't give it and I had to literally grab one of the 20 Euro notes by force out of her hand, almost tearing it apart.
She was insisting she had won the bet when I never really accepted such a defeat, since the parameters for winning or losing had not yet been met (she was supposed to ask someone the following day).
So we had a whole argument about this and she made me reach my limits, she wasn't giving me back the rest of the money and I got furious and destroyed her laptop computer!!
So my question to you is: Do you think stealing 44 Euros, or 1000 Euros (that's the laptop) makes a difference, Isn't it stealing still?
Did I have the right to become so furious or not?

I need a new computer, so went searching for Macs. I found this "Mac Mini" and thought it was WAY to good to be true. I don't know everything about computers, like "Ethernet", "Firewire" or "Leopard" so If you can give me a brief description of those things, it would be great. I don't need to know, though so if you don't, I don't either. Anyway, I heard so many great things. Like Wifi capabilities. So this means that you can get a signal and use it to browse the web like a laptop? Also, I am just looking for a short, easy overview of the whole mac part, if you can. The site just is to much for me. Oh, yeah, forgot. I am on a budget, so does anybody know a store, or website that you can buy on used or refurbished for a low price (like 400, 500 dollars). My husband has a Dell Latitude and I just purchased an Apple MacBook. We have a sierra 881 aircard thru AT&T that we use in the Dell, but we have no internet on the Mac b/c there is no slot for the aircard. I am considering buying an aircard router so we can have internet on both laptops.
My questions are...
-Do you know if the Linksys aircard router is compatible with Mac?
-Does the router have to be hooked up to a computer to work (all the pics i've seen, the router is free standing with the aircard in the top)?

The nearest Best Buy to my college is 50 miles away. I'd like to get a laptop there while I'm still at home since I like their selection and customer service. However, if my laptop breaks and I need to use the warantee, do I have to go to Best Buy or can I go to any computer store that sells my laptop?
I mean, if my laptop breaks, can I go somewhere like circuit city having bought it at Best Buy and redeem the warantee as long as they carry my laptop?

at christmas my parents bought me a toshiba laptop with a wi fi function. at the same time the purchased a ZyXel modem. The modem came with a yellow cable that can be plugged into the usb port of a computer and it also came with a wireless stick that can be plugged into the usb too. The wireless stick thing didn't work on the home computer so we are currently using the yellow cable.
so we set up my laptop, read through the wi fi instructions and connected my laptop to the internet without needing the yellow cable or the usb stick. However, when my laptop is connected to the internet it cuts out the internet on the home computer. I was just wondering why it is that this happens and if there is any way that me and my family can stop it happening as my parents have told me that i am no longer allowed to use the internet on my laptop due to this problem.
If it helps at all my homecomputer is a windows 2007 and my laptop is the latest windows addition.

I'm a computer programming student, so i need a decent laptop. At the moment, I have an LGR500 I paid about 2000 for a year ago, and now i might as well throw it in the trash. The webcam doesnt work, some of the keys are broken, there is a problem with the hard drive connector which causes the laptop to short and overheat constantly and the connector to pop out. Its also overrun with trojan's but thats my own problem since I've used it to download music. The laptop will no longer run off the battery, and warranty wont cover any of this. I'm on a 16 month internship right now, and I am going to need a new GOOD laptop for school in sept 09, but for the time being I'd like a cheap laptop thats fast and functional, with memory and Ram, for basically downloading and everyday surfing, and burning movies, stuff like that. One I dont have to worry about virus's and stuff, so i can have one for personal use and one for school (i'm not buying the school one until i am just about ready to head back)...

Basically i guess the qualities you could say I am looking for is decent amount of RAM and storage, must have USB Ports (though what doesnt now adays), and a DVD burner for the most minimal price possible. Also, I'm rather Impartial to Vista, now that I've gotten to use it. I'm a software developer and I really do prefer it over XP, as do many of the people I go to school with (all going into different programming fields)

My friend had gone to send me a music file and neglected to tell me that her computer had a virus. Typically I have a great virus and anti-spyware protection program and will alert and quarantine before anything can, I guess embed into my files! Well unlucky and stupid me this time nothing worked!
I've been using it offline but now that classes are starting up soon what are my options! It's a new computer I got it in December...um Dell Inspiron 1520 I believe. It has the TrendMicro Protection service.
I know that some places will clean it out but I am wondering if that's safe? Also what types of places, i.e. Staples or Best Buy will do a better job of wiping it out the fastest! && If I have the computer cleaned (stupid files I added on) will it also delete my Trend Micro Program?

Okay I just bought a laptop its a Gateway T-1631 and I don't know how to work the wireless. Now I already have a broadband on my other computer and I just got the router but I'm still not getting any connection to the interent and my friend told me I need to buy an adapter for my laptop. And whenever I do find a connection I need that persons password can you please help me!!!

I have a Gateway laptop that is about a year old. I have wireless high speed internet but my PC has been running extremely slow lately. It says that I have 40% recovery D left and 50% disc space left.
I also have over 500 photo/videos and a couple hundred cd's stored.
So my question is- Can I go buy a few cheap jump drives and move my music and photos onto them to free up all the space on my PC and make it run faster? Or is the damage already done???

Open Question: wireless on laptop not working?
i tried everythng- a reboot of both laptop and the host computer. It says "acquiring network address, firewalled" The it will toggle between that and not connected. i tested trying to connect after i temporarily turned off the firewall on the host, but still nothing. please help this is frustrating me to no end! Thanks in advance. Please only answer this is you're computer savvy, i don't want any amateurs giving me really stupid advice, like go out and buy another computer etc. just to get points! :):):):):):)

okay, so i have been wanting to buy a laptop for a while
and i have now saved up $1000 for one..
i have really wanted a macbook, but i have heard that you cant use microsoft word on it,
and i will need this for college, so sending teachers papers would be harder..
and in a laptop..i would need a large amount of memory because i take alot of pictures and videos...
oh yeah, and i would also like the computer to have a camera, with some camera effects, similar to the macbook...
if anybody has any ideas for a laptop like this,

Open Question: What is a good laptop to buy?
My laptop broke and my insurance plan has given me a $1000 credit to replace the laptop. If I spend less than $1000 I loose the money, so I would like to spend the full $1000. I am just unsure which one to buy. I have had so many problems with my last laptop (which was a hp) that I am weary of buying any new pc, but unfortunately I cannot put the credit towards a mac. Also, I must purchase the computer at Best Buy.
So, what is a great laptop that I can get that meet the above guidelines?

Geeze. I want to spend at least $1000 dollars on this thing. I'm not trying to be cheep. If I buy a laptop for $400 dollars I loose $600. So I'm not looking for a killer deal. I just want a good laptop.
Open Question: Problems with our new Charter internet!?
We had Qwest high speed internet and phone for quite some time and everything worked just fine with our laptop (an acer with vista). Recently we switched to charter phone and internet so we could bundle everything into one bill with our cable. The technician set up the internet and it wasn't working. We sat on the phone for several hours with different people to problem solve. We have tried a modem we bought ourselves and then tried hooking up a wireless router and that is not picking up either. It looks like it is hooked up and on Charter's end it looks like everything works but we can't get on the internet whether we go straight from the modem or from the wireless router. Charter sent out a tech and also brought a computer "guru" and used a different modem that they had and it still isn't working. Does anyone have any suggestions? Our Qwest internet is no longer working because it was through the phone and charter took over the phone...however, we never formally canceled our Qwest internet in case something went wrong with the charter internet, so could this be blocking the new internet somehow?
Open Question: Why does my computer freeze when i try to restart it?
Every time I try to restart my computer it freezes on me. I just upgraded from Vista home premium to Ultimate about 2 days ago but the problem started yesterday.

Open Question: Why isn't my computer reading certain discs??
Okay, so for some reason my desktop computer won't read ONE of my discs. I've gone through a million different game discs, and all of them work but one.
The game is Sims 2 (Double Deluxe, if that matters). It works fine on my laptop and on my other computer, but on this one, the autoplay won't pop up, and when I go into 'My Computer', it doesn't read anything in the D drive.
When I put the disc in, after a few seconds there's a funny noise. And I'm no good with computers. :(
I only bought the game yesterday! Why won't my computer read it?
