I was hit by a 16 year old male driver, he has a license. We both live in the same city in Texas, and both have Allstate insurance. I was in the far right lane, he came over from the very far left lane, crossing 3 lanes, and hit my side, the driver side from the driver's door to the left front, and side-swiped my SUV, with the right side of his pickup. He was going about 50 mph. I was pushed over the curb of the frontage road on the right side of the frontage. The adjuster said that I WILL NOT be covered for damages because the 16 year old was not listed on his parents insurance as a driver on the pickup! My leg was injured and I went to the ER, and the body shop damage is $3,350.00 Is this true that I have no right to a claim because the boy was not listed on his parents' car insurance policy? Thank you...
The pickup the boy was driving IS covered under both his parent's name on the Allstate policy.
Open Question: My ex-boyfriend didn't transfer our car to his name after we broke up - he's driving it uninsured!?
We agreed that I would transfer the title of the car from joint names to just his name. I completed a 802 form from the New York State DMV and filled in the section on the title to transfer it to his name only. I mailed all this to him. Six months later I find out he's driving the car. I did a title search and the title hasn't been reissued. I also called the insurance company. The policy has expired. Whats the worst case scenario - should I threaten to sue him if he doesn't change the title? Ownership of the car is still in our joint names. What happens if he gets into an accident in our crappy car and people are seriously hurt? Help!

So to save money with her insurance every month she put my name and her name under the title of her car and I just added the car under my policy. This was a year ago. The problem is I am filng bankruptcy right now. Will this be a problem and will they take my sisters car too? I will ask my attorney when he gets back from her trip but for now does anybody out there know the answer to my question? Thanks.
Open Question: If marriage is a sacred union, doesn't that mean that social security shouldn't give widow's benefits?
Married people get a lot of stuff that other people don't get, like the ability to get a 10% discount on car insurance for starters and the ability to get a discount on health insurance when going through one of their work policies.
And of course there's widow's benefits, the ability to visit each other in the Intensive Care Unit.
I say that if marriage is the thing that is sanctioned by the bible, then the government should step out of the process and not even require licenses. Separation of church and state.

Open Question: Car insurance questions!!!?
Hello,
Just looking for a bit of advice really...
In November 07 I had an accident in my car and a claim was made through the insurance. A month later, while the claim was still going on, I sold the car. I rung my insurance company and asked to cancel my insurance as i no longer owned the car. They told me that becasue the claim was still going through I could not cancel my policy and would have to keep paying monthly until the claim was completed. 8 months down the line the claim is still not finalised and I am well over £400 out of pocket paying for insurance on a car i do not own...is this ok for them to do this or does anyone know if i could claim the money back?
Any advice would be great! thanks
Open Question: Should I get a claim damages on my accident?
I recently got into an accident. I was at fault and let my insurance company know. It looked like there was no damage to the other party's car (Very slow collision) (he also called it in, we both have GEICO) and some damage to my front hood. Geico told me the other party will be fully covered but i have a $1000 deductible.
My question is should i get a quote from a "GEICO" approved shop?
The damage to my car will be around my deductible (I checked at another shop)
If I don’t claim it, will that help my policy?
They already know of the accident and i don’t think the other guy will claim anything since there was no damage. Will it help me if i don’t get a quote and I fix the my car on my own?
Open Question: HELP ME!! URGENT!? =:( Please!!?
I've not had a car for a few days, and I've been driving my grandpas, well he found me a new car, and he's going to buy it for me (I'm going to pay him back) He's going out now to get the temporary tags on it. My problem is that I canceled my insurance policy the other day, but I still have my card. He needed it so I gave it to him. Are they going to run my insurance to give me the temp tags? Or will they just look at it and then issue the tags?
I live in WV.

Resolved Question: Auto Insurance Question: Please help!!!!!?
I asked this yesterday too, but did not get any responses; so if you have any information at all, or this has happened to you, please list an answer!
I just recently lost my beautiful 1977 Monte Carlo to a fire! It was all original, and the adjuster found it to be worth between $12,000 and $13,000. Due to my ignorance of insurance, we were put into a stated value insurance policy worth $6,000, and now, I am only getting $6,000 for my car.
I feel ripped off. I am young, and don't know anything about insurance, but trusted my agent. The car has been in my family and was gifted to me from my dad a little less than one year ago. My agent asked for photos, and a letter from my parents with what they thought the worth of the car was, signed saying it was a gift. So, that's what we gave him. They stated in the letter they paid $6000 for it 8 years ago. We were never told to get the car appraised, or that we had to keep up on checking to see if the value had gone up so we could change our policy.
Do any of you have any advice on how I can get the insurance company to give me all the money? Is there anything I can do at all?
Thank You so much!
Open Question: Do I have the right to know my legal insurance firm included in my car insurance policy?
I had a car accident and I believe it was third party’s fault. I have a comprehensive cover policy and legal insurance with it. My insurance company is not keen to sort things out. After two months since I sent the report, there is no further response at all. I have been keeping sending them emails but no response so far. I suspect that, due to the possible payout is small, they do not want to use the solicitor because the solicitor fees are more expensive then payout. Do I have the right to know my legal insurance firm? Can I contact them directly and ask for help?

I was hit by a person driving a vehicle that was covered by insurance but the name on ths policy isn't the person that was driving the vehicle! What if she isn't a named driver? What can I do as recourse if the insurance company does not want to take responsibility for my damages to my car?
Open Question: Cali: traffic ticket help?
I got a Infraction ticket for going 10mph over the speed limit pulling a car trailer.
My truck is lifted with bigger tires and apparently, I was going over the 55mph limit However, I had my cruiz control set at 60 (even while traffic was zooming past me..anyone live near L.A would know traffic...). So the cop just gave me a 65mph notice on it.
Amazing how 3/4 of the way I drove 55mph but speed up after many people honking and almost rear ending me as they where tailgating.
Details:
I am moving in two weeks out of state.
Notice going to another county in Cali (forward address).
Says can take up to a month if not longer to receive that notice (fine etc).
Do I have to report to Insurance right now or can I wait til I get the notice?
Reason also is, due to the move, we have AAA So. California which isn't transfer to another state. So have to make a whole knew policey according to AAA for the new state will be in. (States don't transfer policies).
Is there a possibility I can do traffic school in my new state?
Any ideas of the expense in the fine?
(I haven't had a ticket in over 4 years. Never a speeding ticket. The most I done was not use a blinker when turning).
P.S
The CHP said I was going 75mph in the begin when I told him how fast I was going.
I was like "Whatt??"
So I know something is weird. Either he was wrong or my speed denomiator is extremly off the faster I go. (normally it is off about 5mph. But my husband said he noticed it gets worse as the speed increases when he drove and his friend mentioned the same thing).
"You may have had the wrong size tires. Take the truck to a tire shop to see if this is the case, and if so, get the right size tires, and show judge the receipts from the tire shop stating you had gotten the correct size tires put on your truck, and they'll often dismiss the fine. "
On a new 2008 Dually chevy with a 6inch lift, it doesn't look "right" with the original tires. These are the tires the lift/rimes came from (contracted threw chevy).
"Ok, this should have been fixed when you first found out about the problem."
Due to living over 4 hours (it took 7 hours when I got the ticket due to traffic delays at 1am for construction...)...from the company that placed the lift and tires on, it isn't that easy to just go down there and "fix it". That requires diesel fuel and money to fork out.
Due to military and they only open 5 days a week, not on weekends, my husband isn't able to say "I need off work". like the civilian world can...
Had schedule for next week...
Open Question: Order of Car Purchase, Insurance, and change of License?
Hi,
I'm buying a new car soon, but I've recently moved to rhode island from florida. I need to change my insurance to a new company because (getting off my father's policy), title the car in rhode island (and register it), get a Rhode Island driver's license, and register the car with the insurance company. What order seems most sensible for these things to occur?
Open Question: Paint man messed up my car when he was painting it PLEASE HELP?
Well I tried to save a few bucks having some guyt wpaint my car on the side I paid him 800 to fix dents and repaint my car.Well he ended up spray painting it and it looked like a jaw braker the bondo job was getto and it look horrible this guy was a scam. Well he ripped me off. I gave himall my money. What can i do??? will my insurance cover it. He grinded all the old paint of and it looks like it has high and low spots made it look 10 times worse. I have geiko comprehensive coverage Comprehensive
Comprehensive coverage pays for loss or damage to your vehicle caused by fire, theft, vandalism, hail, windstorm, riot, falling objects, flood, and other events as stated in your policy contract.
Comprehensive is an optional coverage. In deciding whether you wish to carry comprehensive, you may want to consider the present value of your vehicle and the cost of the coverage. If you finance or lease your vehicle you will probably need to carry this coverage as part of your lease or financing agreement. Refer to your lease/finance agreement for details.
When selecting a deductible, you should choose a deductible that meets your financial needs. The deductible is the amount you will pay out-of-pocket should a loss occur. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium charged for this coverage.
Please give me someadviceonwhat i can do
Resolved Question: Should I buy car insurance on-line or by an agent?
hi,
My home owner insurance is from All State. Normally, if you have your both car and home insurance together, you could get some discount. So, since my current car insurance policy(Geico) will expire soon, I am thinking about switching to All State. On all state website, you can either buy it online, or buy it through the agent who sells the home owner insurance to me. Is there any big difference or I'd better to get it from agent? Because I think agents live on commission, my premium might go higher if I go with agents.
And also, what do you guys think about All State?
Thanks.
Open Question: info on auto accidents and the insurance?
I would like to know that if your in a car accident after you pip is exhausted can your lawyer have the other insurer pip cover your medical expenses. Also on most insurance policies isn't the bodily injury coverage any where 100,000 and 300,000. The reason for this question is my insurance company wants me to pay for my shoulder surgery out of my settlement.
Open Question: My auto keys are stolen from my neighbour's house?
While leaving for vacation, I had left my car and home keys in my neighbor's house. Unfortunately, there was a broke-in in my neighbor's house, they had lost their jewelery, important documents along with my car and auto keys.
I had replaced my car lock sets, reprogrammed my car keys...etc, and the whole expense came to $800 bucks.
Here is the situation with my insurance company- I have both Auto with deductible $100 and Renters insurance with $1000 deductible with Allstate. And, my neighbor has Allstate renters insurance too.
Allstate is not ready to open a claim for me, suggesting my neighbor should open a liability claim.
Is this the best way to proceed, also mentioned they would only cover the cost of keys ( few dollars probably), doesn't cover replacing the lock sets. I had to replace the lock sets as there is highly likely hood that burglar come back to rob the car.
Is it reasonable for the insurance company to just replace keys only?
Also, surprised why this doesn't cover under my auto policy?
Any suggestions, hints are helpful. Thank you all guys for your time!!

Open Question: How to get judge to award full repair costs BEFORE the car gets fixed (I can't afford to fix before trial)?
I need to sue in small claims court for damage to my car by a hit-and-run driver. The hit-and-run driver was ID'd by LAPD. The LAPD Traffic Report states he WAS the cause of the crash plus he violated the hit-and-run laws (but was not citied for anything). The Driver is not primary policy holder, but IS listed as an add'l driver. The car he was driving was NOT his car--it belonged to a Mercedes-Benz dealership. Driver's insurance co. claims "coverage" issues prevent them from resolving this claim, but won't say what coverage issues! No question that liability exists--(LAPD report even lists a couple excellent eye-witnesses). Driver's ins. co. has jerked me around for SEVEN (7) months, while I'm still driving a damaged car (not to mention the increasing medical bills!)
QUESTION A: Will I have to sue in Small Claims, 1) the primary insurance policy-holder (she wasn't the driver), 2) and the driver (sounds like her son), 3) AND the car's owner, a Mercedes dealership?
QUESTION B: Ideally, I would get my car FULLY repaired BEFORE trial and simply show the receipts to the judge to prove final damages. However, since I cannot afford to fix the car before trial, how I get an accurate award from judge to cover my car's FULL damage, including the extra "hidden damage" which they always find after they start working on the car? Thnaks!
Can I actually sue the driver's insurnace co? on what theory? and the problem with only collecting on estimates, it just that, they are only estimates--hidden damage always is "discovered" after the shop gets into the repair job, but then it's too late to go back to the judge and ask for more money!
Resolved Question: What would you do? Advise please?
Okay, so I had insurance through Progressive. My bank account was automatically charged every month for my insurance. My car's engine blew up and it is now inoperable so I cancelled my policy. My insurance is due every month on the 6th. I called Progressive on the 5th and they said that in my state, they have to have it in writing saying I want to cancel my policy. I faxed them a paper on the 6th, they cancelled it in the 10th. My bank account was charged on the 8th anf it was sent back for NSF. My bank then charged me a 35 dollar NSF fee. I called Progressive, they said I would be refunded on the 18th. Today, Progressive sent it through again and again my bank declined for NSF and I was charged another fee, which makes my account -70. I called Progressive again, they said there is nothing they can do because it is automatically sent through 2 times and that I would NOT be getting refunded because it was not an error on their part but that when I called on the 5th I should have stopped the electronic transfer from taking place. I asked why did they send it through two times knowing that my policy was cancelled and they responded that it is just set up that way. Is there anything I can do about this?

Voting Question: Vehicle Registration in Mexico?
I have a client whose son recently moved to Guadalajara. He obtained Mexico insurance but still has a NY license plate. Since he now has Mexico insurance, he wants to cancel his US/NY insurance policy, but I explained that he would first need to surrender the license plates to New York State Department of Motor Vehicles or else they will assess a fee for driving with no insurance if we cancel the US/NY insurance policy before the plates are surrendered.
I have been reading about how US citizens have been living in Mexico with US license plates on their cars, but my question is, if they have US license plates on the cars, are they continuing to pay for their US/NY insurance policy? B/c the only way to cease coverage is to show the plates have been surrendered. I am trying to advise my client what to do in this case. He does not want to pay for duplicate insurance coverage - Mexico and US policies, but I can not cancel his US/NY policy w/o proof the US plates are surrendered, which he will not be able to do for several months.
Should he re-register the car in Mexico? Does Mexico require that a Mexican plate be on the car if Mexico insurance in place? Will a Mexico insurance policy respond in the event of an accident or theft if there is a US/NY plate on the car?
I appreciate any insight provided on this matter.
Thank you.
New York State requires that the license plates be turned in unless other US insurance has been secured in that person's name. As neither is the case, my client can not cancel the insurance. The plate is linked to DMV, so as long as the plate is on the car and not in the hands of a DMV, US/NY auto insurance must be kept in force.
Resolved Question: Do home/auto insurance companies play favorites with their customers when they pay out claims? ?
This is probably going to come off as a little dumb, but I can't think of another way to phrase it. I'm 25 y/o, a new homeowner, and I already have filed a homeowners claim for water damage. I have had the easiest time in the world with my insurance company paying for repairs, and it actually really suprised me how easy it was. After I filed the claim, I looked around online, and I saw where people were having nightmare problems with their insurance company for the same type of damage I'm claiming.
My parents have been with this insurance company for 25+ years. The policy is mine alone, but I have the same agent that they have. I've also been on my parents' car insurance since I turned 16. My parents and I have all been pretty-much accident/claim free, and they always pay their bills on time.
Here's my question. When this insurance company was analyzing my claim, did they take into account my parents' longterm business, or are they considering me independent from my parents? I'm asking, because I've heard of companies that drop their clients after one water-damage claim, and I'm a little worried they'll drop me

Now I wish to purchase my own car and insure it as myself as the policy holder. Do I have to declare that I had an accident and I was liabale or because it has affected my dad's insurance already I don't have to declare this?
Please can somone explain this to me?

Will i pay more or less a month??
Resolved Question: PLEASE HELP!! Am I the "at fault driver"? Should I pay for the loss?
I was driving a vehicle with no insurance because my vehicle had some mechanic problems, I was parked and when I backed up to get out, other car crashed on my rear left side, we were on a parking lot and he was driving in the middle of the street, not respecting the 2 way lines. The actual accident wasn't serious, My vehicle is OK but his had front left light broken. We exchange info and I gave him my other car insurance policy #, but since I had nothing to repare I didn't do the claim. Now I got a bill for $4200 !!! and 10 days to pay it before going to collection! What can I do to contest? Should I contact his insurance? Should I contact the other person and ask how much his repare was (I'm pretty sure no more than $600). Should I call my insurance and tell them that they need to cover this car since my other car was broken at the moment? It happened in CA, his insurance is AAA (I'm AAA member, this can help me with something?)Please help!!
In CA when you buy an insurance policy they cover for uninsured motorist, that means that the other's insurance is paying for reparements. But can they bill me for this?

She doesn’t drive her moms car and is currently looking to get a new one. Resolved Question: NY Accident No-Fault, Insurance company dropped
I live in NY. I was driving with my girlfriend in her car and we had gotten into an accident. We were rushed tot he ER, and stayed over night. The hospital gave us no fault papers, because no other car was involved. The car was declared as totaled, $17,000 in damages. When we put the claim into state farm, they said the car was dropped from the policy because there was still an unpaid balance. However We did not get any notice of this, nor did we get a bill. Her agent even specifically told us to send in the partial payment and we would receive an outstanding bill in a couple of weeks, however we received nothing. Now they wont take the claim, and they wont put the car back on the policy. Is this legal? Is there anything that can be done?

Resolved Question: Car accident and should I report to my insurance?
Hi,
I got into a car accident this morning.
A big delievery truck was trying to merge into my lane and hit me from side from behind. But he won't admit it was his fault.
I didn't even try to argue with him.
I waited for the police about 40 min and when he came, he told us to exchange insurance info.
He didn't even give us the policy report.
1) can the police refuse to give me the police report?
2) The truck driver came into my lane and hit, the merging dotted lane didn't even start yet. He went across the white solid lane to get into my lane. This major highway.
I led in one car in front of me and going slow when he hit me.
Either he might not have seen me since my car is small and float, old Honda Prelude.
Is it my fault?
3) There was no damage to his truck front bumpter.
But my car has some damage. I am about to contact my insurance, Geico to report.
Would this increase rate in the future??
I have been with Geico for almost 10 years and no accident.
Should I not report it?? since it is my old beat up car.
The car runs fine.
What are your thoughts??
Thanks much.
The policeman didn't take our license & registration card.
He came after 40 mins wait and told us to exchange insurance.
I believe he did not write a report.
I think the repair cost might be around 1500-2000 by looking at the damage.
I only have one side coverage with the Geico. So it is not covered through my insurance if it is my fault.
This happened on the highway, 295 near DC entrance. THe driver was exiting out from 50 into 295.
I took a photo of his car and mine.
His car sitting on the white solid lines.
He didn't use the merging zone where dotted line. He just cut into my lane but probably didn't see my car or something.
Thanks everyone.
My damage is rear left side.
Other driver's truck has no damage.
It is a big delievery GMC truck.
I would think there is difference between dotted line vs solid line.
I thought you cannot merge right into someone else's line. That's why there is a merge zone, isn't there?
Anyway, it is giving me stress already when it is not even my fault.
Going to work on a beautiful day. I was going pretty slow and led one car come in front of me then bang this truck hit me from side.
It's a old car but it seems unfair that I get blamed for it.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts.
Resolved Question: What should i do? College Or Work
So im currently having problems with my car insurance company (MyMotorQuote) basically a couple months ago they put my premium up by £1000 (from £1600 to £2600 - i know, its ridiculous) long story short, they told me i had 30 days to do pass plus when i opened the policy, i didnt hear this, 1 month later policy moves onto one without pass plus, hence £1k difference. Im in full time employment at the moment in a job i HATE, i was going to go back to college at the end of the month and be incredibly short of money for the next 4 months, but now, the company is demanding the £1k either this week, or paying an extra £286 a month - £464!). Cancelling the policy is also not an option as it costs £1100 to do so (i HATE this company), problem is i have no money at all, seriously nothing. So my 3 options:
1/ Stay in full time employment for another year (which i hate), pay the extra £280 a month and go to college next year
2/ Apply for a £1k loan and be incredibly short of money for next 4 months (possibly not even make enough money)
3/ Sell the car, use the money from the car to pay off cancelation fee and go to college with a significantly lower outgoing at the end of every month (take into account i love my car and my work and my college are 2 bus rides apart! and would actually cost more than petrol, and i love my car!)
What do you think?
Resolved Question: Car in the garage - should I SORN it or tax?
Ok, so my insurance runs out in October. My car is on finance. To cut a long story short due to a change in circumstances I cannot afford to renew my insurance policy (I can't REALLY afford to pay the finance anymore but I can temporarily manage). I am going to get a cheap runabout car which is cheaper to insure and run. Next year, around Easter time, I can pay the balance off on my car because I will have the funds. However, from October until then it's going to have to stand in the garage. Tax also runs out in October, should I tax it or declare it SORN? The tax is cheap (only £40 pa) but I'm not sure if it has to be declared SORN because it will be parked in a rented garage for 6 months. It is a newish car (57 plate). Will it stay on the car's "record" if I declare it SORN?
To answer JG - as stated I can't really afford it, but the settlement figure is way over the car's value and so I can't afford to get rid of it (I don't have the money to pay the difference). And yes, I can afford to run another car - a cheap runabout insured TPFT. A car worth £500 insured tpft costs considerably less to insure than a worth 30 times that, insured fully comp! And as I said, tax is only £40 a year.
Resolved Question: A taxi driver rear ended me today and the car is registered in my father's name, is it true what the cop said?
Following the accident, the taxi driver and I went to the police station to file a police report. The taxi driver agreed that it was his fault and agreed to pay for the damages done to my car to bypass dealing through the insurance company because it would jeopardize his job status and insurance rates. The cop told the taxi driver thanks for coming in, but told me to stay back. He told me that since my father's name is on the insurance card and not mine and since I am not 25 yrs. of age, that it would be best to settle it without the insurance company: stating that I am not a registered driver, but I thought that if I am one of the driver's under my father's insurance (State Farm) and specifically my vehicle, it wouldn't matter if only my father's name is registered and considered the owner of the vehicle. I still pay full the full insurance policy under my vehicle, I just use my father's name to cut back on the rates. All comments welcomed, and if the taxi driver decides that the estimate is too high and doesn't pay, what would you recommend I do then?
Voting Question: If i am under 18 with a provisional permit can i drive with a licensed parent?
insurance company says i cannot drive with permit because i am not on the policy. Its my dad's car and its insured if i crash what would happen?
