    As the title states, this is a follow-up to the discussion on the strength of OSU’s schedule. I think some commentators made some great points, so I’d refer you to that discussion if you’d like SOME informed perspectives. First, let me point out that I'm a diehard USC Trojan fan and not a Buckeye partisan. However, I, like those in Big 10 country and elsewhere, have been astonished by the hubris of SEC fans, who seemingly cite recent BCS successes as 'evidence' that the SEC has always been 'top dog'. SEC fans argue this point so doggedly that it makes you wonder if they feel they have anything else to hang their hats on. To give you some historical perspective, let's go back to the 1970s. In that era, Alabama won three national championships (’73, ’78, ’79), but in the five seasons from 1975 to 1979, there was just one season in which two SEC teams finished in the top 10 of the AP poll – 1977, with No. 2 Alabama and No. 6 Kentucky. Should we disregard Alabama’s successes in that era on putative weaknesses of the SEC? I think not. Since much of the discussion has actually focused largely on the issue of SEC vs. Big 10 (not just Ohio State), I'll limit my comments mostly to those issues. It's probably worth mentioning that the Big 10 and SEC have met face-to-face in 6 bowl games the past 2 seasons (the era of SEC 'dominance'). Their comparative records? 3 wins a piece (Big Ten Wins: 07' - Wisconsin 17 Arkansas 14, PSU 20 Tennessee 10; '08 - Michigan 41 Florida 35). As one person has already pointed out, even reaching back just a few years before this "era of SEC dominance", the Big 10 has faired well against the SEC: Michigan is 7-1 against the SEC in their last 8. And as another person pointed out, Ohio State is actually 7-11-2 against the SEC (not a winning record, but hardly what I'd call SEC dominance). Now I'm sure that some SEC fans will argue "Well, our teams play in the toughest conference. Why not have some cream-puff non-conference foes?" That's a complete cop-out, because calling yourself the toughest conference and then using in-conference play as the basis for doing so is circular reasoning. Let me be clear – I have the utmost respect for the SEC and the quality of football within that conference. I am not maligning the SEC, but I do take issue with some SEC fans who really have a limited historical perspective, or just don’t know their facts. Call it nostalgia or respect for a great football tradition, but I feel compelled to come to Ohio State's defense (I won't be saying that come one Saturday this September, however). People forget that Ohio State played Texas on the Longhorns' home field and beat them decisively during the 2006-2007 season. Moreover, they almost beat the Longhorns' during their championship season, and by my look ahead at Ohio State's future schedules, has some pretty tough non-conference competition (e.g. USC, Oklahoma, Miami). Notwithstanding this discussion about strength of schedule, let's remember folks that these schedules are arranged many years in advance, and teams that are expected to be strong for years to come when added to a team's schedule may fall on hard times (e.g. remember when Colorado, Nebraska, Florida State, and Washington made people nervous?). Moreover, some people simply overlook the significance of what OSU has done the past 2 seasons: they've played for the national championship! Nobody else can say that! I find it curious that many SEC fans complain that the BCS is a broken system when, in fact, they've been benefactors of that same system in recent years as well (LSU had 2 losses last season, after all). As an SC fan, I've heard over and over from LSU fans that they were the "true national champion" in 2004 because they won the BCS championship and "those are the rules we all agreed to.” Well, if that’s your argument, be consistent by not maligning Ohio State for making it to the BCS national championship, since those are the “rules we all agreed to.” That being said, I'm actually with most fans - including many Buckeye and SEC fans I know - in saying that the BCS is a flawed system in desperate need of repair. I’m hoping that we can ratchet up the pressure so that we can get something resembling a play ...so that we can get something resembling a playoff system (perhaps a “Plus 1 system”, with a “Final Four” based on the highest BCS rankings before bowl season). Let’s have fun this season. Be cool. Be respectful. Sorry for the confusion folks. I actually think that "Deacon" illustrates my point and I want to think him for him comments (despite the fact that he does not appear to be good natured about it). I agree that a LOT of this has to do with Athletic Directors and University Presidents. I think that a HUGE flaw in the current BCS system is that there is an incentive to schedule weak opponents, because strength of schedule does not factor into the equation (at least not explicitly. It's been argued that it factors into the human polls). Which brings me to my main point (as intimated by "Deacon", albeit unintentionally I suspect). That is, every major program around the country (not just OSU) is scheduling weak opponents, but at least OSU has had the guts to schedule the likes of Texas, USC, Oklahoma, and Miami. Last year was mostly a fluke with respect to their non-conference slate, but it included Washington which had been a formidable opponent when placed on OSU's schedule years ago.

    Hello, I live in Orange County, Florida and moved into my apartment on August 7th. I was told by the office manager when I signed the lease along with the nine other papers they my copy would be ready to pick up the next day. I went the next day they still were not done. Approximately five days later was told they were still not done. Last week I went it and was told for the third time the papers were not ready. Yesterday, twenty days after my original move in date I was told she couldn't check on the papers because there was a phone conference in the room where they are kept. She told me I would receive a phone call when they are done. I have yet to hear anything... Is there any sort of a time frame in which the landlord is required to provide me a copy of the lease and papers I signed? As a renter is there anything I can do?     I have a stepdaughter--her dad and I have been married since she was 10, and together since she was 7--she's now turning 21. I was involved in her upbringing/raising--PTO, girl scouts, conferences, school fundraisers, field trip chaparone etc. Her mother is still in the picture and we have a decent relationship (decent enough that we can have dinner together and call each other Jo and Jen as opposed to Joanne and Jennifer). So why is it that when folks (strangers in line, co-workers, etc) ask about my children and their ages--and I respond--3 children, 20, 7, and 3, that people get all offensive because she's 'not really' my child and 'technically' I have two and a stepchild.     My husband and I have had marriage troubles for years. He is an active alcoholic and I have recently attended Alanon/ie working on my own issues. Although our relationship is strained, it is not over and we do care for each other very much. Anyway, I went to a work conference and he would not go. (has done this before). When I left we kissed and all was well. Then on the evening before I came home he called me drunk and said "Are you in a casino? I'm with Joyce and I hired her...here talk to her" I said nothing and he put her on the phone (she used to work for me). She gets on the phone and mumbles something. I say "I'm sorry Ican't understand you" She says "yes you can" and I say 'no really I can't" then she says "you are going to get your f'ng divorce and says I hate your fng guts" (she uses the f word). I say nothing. She hangs up. Of course I am upset wondering what the hell is going on. A few minutes later another person calls me and says "Joyce and Dee left together" I say who is this? they say Bill. They hang up. So, next day I get home and decide I am not going to say one word about this (I've learned this technique from alanon). BUT when I get to the airport I notice I had two photo messages on my phone that had not downloaded so I get them and one is a picture of my husband looking down her shirt and she is grinning and another photo of my husband with a beer and the message "Fk" written. So, now I am totally upset but decide to not mention it anyway. I get home, we speak etc. She is married to a State Trooper. Do I tell him, go to the court and ask for a PPO or what?? Her hubby is a really nice guy. She is a total troublemaker. What would you do? While in overtime, Gretzky clipped Gilmour in the face with his stick, but referee Kerry Fraser did not call a penalty - which led to controversy- and Gretzky scored the winning goal moments later, therefore tying the series 3-3, and then Los Angeles eventually won the series and advanced to the finals, losing to the Montreal Canadiens.     I have to ask, is there anyone here that often makes mistakes that are avoidable by common sense? I ask because I wanna see if i'm alone here. I tend to make errors that don't really require much thinking, such as, one time when i was working at Round Table Pizza as a pizza delivery person, I had to deliver pizzas to a conference room where there were about 30 people. my mistake was that I brought only 6 peppers and cheese packets. I didn't realize my mistake after I went back to the restaurant and the customer called us back and complained about the shortage of those side peppers and cheese and realized I didn't need counting lessons in order to have known how many of those packets I should have brought. I usually bring 6 of those things, and I got so used to bringing only 6 that I failed to realize how many more customers I had at that time! That's just one out of many errors I had done before. So I ask if there's anyone who is also like that, someone liable to stupid mistakes if you don't think extra harder. If you're not like that but you know someone who is, let me know as well.

    I used to have a bad bad stuttering problem. To the point where you would ask my name and I cant even say it. I got over it right after elementary school. It got better throughout the years...now I'm 22 and I have two little girls. My 3 year old is going to preschool. Her dad and I talk to her everyday. Well just a few minutes ago we called her on the phone since she is in California with my mom and we're both in Las Vegas going to school and I am working. So I asked her about her day. I don't know if she was too excited to talk to us but she said, "um um um um um um today we sang um um twinkle star"..automatically he said SHE HAS A STUTTER?!! I kept talking to my little girl, ignoring her imperfections. Then when it was time to get off the phone I told her I loved her and she is special to me and I had to go. She hung up so I was talking to him since we were in a conference call. I told him look, maybe she does maybe she doesn't have it. If she does, oh well. So she does, We'll be patient and just accept it for what it is and work on it together. For a little example, since he said something that I used to have an issue with but now my own daughter may have that issue also, it bothered me. So I said well ok you used to have a learning problem. What if she has one also but you dont know about it yet. He got all deffensive and mad so I said you see, you didnt like that and I didnt like it either when you said it. So I told him to be patient with it. Do you think its hereditary?     Is there a more annoying and ignorant group of people in american sports than SEC fans? The only questions they ask are about how bad Ohio State is, and about how good the SEC is going to be this year. This is what Ive realized after 2 seasons of hearing about how bad the Buckeyes are and how superior the SEC is. Its as if there are no other conferences in college football outside of the SEC. Every single question I look at has multiple answers about how weak Ohio State's schedule is, and about how we dont deserve anything. We are aware that Ohio State had a laughable non confrence schedule last season, and backed into the National Championship game. Because, unlike SEC fans, we Big Ten fans practice a little thing called class. But you wouldnt understand it, since most of your SEC coaches/idols dont know what it is either. But dont judge the whole confrence, and the hate for OSU is going too far. When i try to open the other house fone to make it a conference it will always say "unable to call try again" . ...but it happens all the time! So during the conference, Morrison called for the withdrawal of the IAU definition, an action he said would be unlikely. He then suggested that the IAU definition be ignored. And, “it ignores the 300-plus planets found outside the solar system,” he added. “A definition based on the physical, the intrinsic properties of a planet does not,” he noted. Such a definition might seem to add confusion because it would include a planet’s moons as planets too, Stern said. “But we are just going to have to get over that,” he said, because what makes a broad, physical-based definition of a planet useful is that it allows scientists and educators to “put like things together in the same bin,” and then make sub-bins or subcategories of planets such as satellite planets, dwarf planets and extrasolar planets, he explained. A paternity test shows that the teen is the father of the baby born April 7 to Jane C. Crane, who was 19 when she became pregnant. Now, a judge has ordered him to pay $50 a month in child support and set visitation at seven hours a week. Crane, meanwhile, faces criminal charges. A Fairfield County grand jury indicted her last month on two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony. Conviction carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison and a requirement to register as a sex offender for 25 years. Crane is living with the baby and her family in Lancaster. The boy's parents say they can provide a better upbringing for the baby than Crane can. Her household includes her stepfather, David L. Jacobs, who was convicted of domestic violence last year for hitting, choking and pointing a gun at Crane's 17-year-old sister and was placed on two years' probation, court records show. "We don't want to have our granddaughter abused by these people," the boy's father said. "We are trying to do the right thing. "The child support was the icing on the cake. I couldn't believe that our son has to pay child support to his abuser." The Dispatch does not identify victims of sexual abuse.     I have been with my husband for 3 years and he has 2 wonderful children. I have been there for them every step of the way. Their mom is a known drug abuser, and we just got enough evidence to prove it. Our attorney got her medical records and it talks about how she does abuse drugs. Cocaine, marijuana, and prescription. They even had a postive urine test in there for cocaine and marijuana. We have tried to fight her so many times before to keep the kids out of that stuff, but at the time we didn't have the proof that we do now. Here's the problem. A month ago my husband got a phone call that told him that his children were in great danger because she owed a drug dealer. We tried going to the police and social services but they wouldn't do anything. Then my husband screwed up big time, he got drunk ( this happened the day after she picked up the kids for her time with them.) and got in trouble. Now he has to serve 60 days in jail for this mistake. He says that he knows he screwed up and has been getting counseling and help so that he never screws up this bad because of her again. Here's what really hurts. She went and filed for sole custody because he doesn't go to jail until Sept. 1. We brought all of our eveidence that proved that she was doing drugs and not passing urine tests to the judge and asked that if they couldn't give me custody then at least let me keep up the regular visistation schedule of every other week. At least then the kids would still have some sort of stability. I have no history of drug use and i have nothing on my criminial record. The judge said that even though we had this evidence showing that she is a danger to the children she still got them temporarily. Now I can't even see them for at least 67 days, maybe more depending on how long it takes to get a hearing afterwards. This is killing me. I love those boys so much. She would never show up for any parent teacher conferences or for when a mother was suppose to go to class to read a story. I did all of that stuff so that they would have a mother figure in their life. And then to top it off the judge told her to meet us at the police station to pick up the kids, and she sends her mother. She pulls up in a black vechile later while we were handing the kids over, started making out with some guy, looked at the kids and said "Hi, boys. Mommy gotta go with him, I'll see you in a few days." She is never there for them, but she wanted to make it very clear to me that now I wouldn't be aloud to see them or talk to them. How do I deal with this pain? It hurts sooo bad, and now I have to constantly sit here and wonder if they are safe. How do I do this? She also checked herself in a mental health unit twice in a year. and there records stated that she was not stable and was an addict, and they stated that when she wouldn't give her oxycotin she would check herself out mad and yelling at them. They made it very clear that she is not stable.

As a learner of Chinese this would be an exciting development but if it was true I assume there would be a lot of news about it so I'm leaning towards the side of it not being true.
