Resolved Question: Americans aren't weird, but I'm still confused to why the world thinks we are?
I have a friend that lives in Australia and he always complains about how weird Americans are. I was so shocked because from what I seen there Australia was one of the most Americanized places I have been, I mean all of the magazines had American people on it we were all over their tv, music, movie, and fashion. And I pointed out to him that his favorite actor Adam Sandler is very American and that chick Beyonce that he thinks is so hot is American. My friend purposely went and got her haircut like Katie Holmes. He and she weren't the first foreigners from another country I have seen and heard of talking about Americans and our culture like that. So why do foreigners make those statements about us but then contradict themselves all the time by effortlessly imitating or even loving us? Do they want their cake and eat it too? Or are we a guilty pleasure? Cause American pop culture is huge around the world!!! And it was kinda weird cause after he completely bashed our country and I told him that those people were Americans he got pissed off. I should have been the one upset, it was like he was mad they were American or something. I was like what the hell?Even in the grocery store all the brands were American ones. I was in total disbelief of the disrespect and we supposedly have a good relationship with Australia. But the UK is a lot like Australia when it comes to that kinda stuff but at least those people are nice. And I know not all foreigners like American brands but most of them don't even know what they are American, my friend overseas thought his country came up with Barbie and Coca-Cola.... It seems they think they know more about our country than we do than really they don't. My friends in Aussie tell me all the time they know more about my country than I do, and I"m like whatever cause it's something that is retarded to say, and I don't see how that makes their life better or helps them in everyday life. All it seems to do is make them even more jealous or have something negative to say. And they told me that we are ignorant to the rest of the world in my opinion the average American can;t go overseas to help someone in another country so we like to know whats going on in our area so we can help those people. It's good to know the news, but that isn't our concern when we can;t help those people. I would rather focus on people I can help, so no I don't think we are ignorant in that since, we are realistic.
I'm not talking about American politics or government. I'm talking about us the people and our culture. People need to stop judging us by our politics and start realizing how normal American people have helped the world and have made a lot of people's lives easier in other countries. Such as discovering electricity, inventing the refrigerator, and HVAC....etc
Timmy I wonder why none of these things became popular until we really started doing it. And I can't believe you would actually try and have an argument after this question. And I have been to Australia three times and I still don't know what the culture is there. We atleast have something to be proud of.

Resolved Question: Are any self-respecting Country Music fans, a fan of Jessica Simpson?
Some people like her, some people don't; I'm willing to bet the people that do not like Jessica Simpson's version of Country are more attuned to the likes of Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, The Judds, The Mandrel Sisters, Terri Gibbs, Gretchen Wilson and the immortal Patsy Cline.
What do you think?
Us Magazine
Jessica Simpson's first country concert was met with mixed reactions.
Audiences booed and clapped as the singer, 28, opened for Sara Evans on Saturday at the Country Thunder USA festival in Randall, Wisconsin.
"I don't know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I'm just a girl from Texas," Simpson told the crowd. "I'm just like you. I'm doing what I love and dating a boy."
She dedicated the tune "You're My Sunday" to beau Tony Romo, who was in the audience, and performed a slew of covers including Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" as well as her new single "Come On Over."
One concertgoer told the local paper: "I'll have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert."
Added another: "She's an embarrassment to country music."
Not all were haters.
One fan told the paper, "I actually like her country songs better. She has a great voice, plus, she's adorable."
Despite the lukewarm buzz, her father Joe recently told Usmagazine.com his daughter whose album drops September 9 - is ready for country.
"It feels really good," he said of her album. "She is extremely happy."

Resolved Question: Nazi Chic in East Asia?
Anyone else disturbed by this trend? Uniforms and other imagery related to Nazi Germany have been on sale in east Asia, where some considered it cool. Hong Kong and Japan have each witnessed a growth in the casual wearing of SS uniforms, as well as increased interest in white power music (also known as Rock Against Communism). Sometimes in east Asia, Nazi uniforms are used as part of cosplay. In South Korea, an area generally isolated from Nazi cultural influences during the Nazi era, Time magazine observed in 2000 "an unthinking fascination with the icons and imagery of the Third Reich." Nazi-inspired imagery featured in various early releases from Japanese band The 5.6.7.8's.
In Asia, World War II is not taught in schools as a battle of political ideologies, but as a conventional war. This type of education means that Hitler and the Nazi Party are not treated as war criminals or evil, but merely as charismatic and powerful leaders of countries during wartime.
Some east Asians are interested in what Adolf Hitler said about east Asian history and philosophy; the Nazi work ethic; as well as militaries that wore Hugo Boss uniforms and drove tanks made by Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. George Burdi, the former head of the neo-Nazi record label Resistance Records, claimed to have sold many CDs to Japan, because some Japanese believed themselves to be the white men of the east.
So is anyone else disturbed by this? That the Nazis get a sort of glorification in East Asia? White supremacist music sells very well there and that many bars open with Third Reich and Nazi themes?

Resolved Question: Is anybody with me on this one: The Dixie Chicks were great for country music.?
The Dixie Chicks being booted out of country music is a great loss for the industry as well as a loss women who wanted to go into county. They played their own instruments and were highly successful too. Country music magazines & radio failed to really support the Chicks and their being booted out of country is a dark era for this form of music.
Resolved Question: Do pastors who hate pop culture drive kids away from Christianity?
I brought this up in the course of answering another question, and it led me to ask this one.
My 12-year-old cousin has a youth pastor whom he just plain *hates*. He especially hates this guy because my cousin loves country music and the youth pastor is "always telling me what's wrong with every song, even the ones where they say 'Jesus'." The boy says: "He acts like he's Jesus, not just a guy who's teaching about Jesus, and I'm supposed to treat his opinions like they're directly from Jesus."
I recognized that. I loved hip-hop, and this was during the early 90s, which are referred to as "the golden age of hip-hop" by some fans now. I was told it was evil and wrong and I should get it out of my life--I attended a white suburban church, and my youth pastors seemed scared of it. They actually had us teenagers burn music and magazines periodically! They didn't want us reading Seventeen!
It wasn't my only beef with the church, but it sure got me thinking about my options!
Voting Question: Does anyone have any fun decorating ideas?
I love to decorate, but I'm always at a loss for new things to do. I spend half my year in a dorm room and the other half in a full bedroom in another city.
My biggest problem is that I absolutely love bright colours, especially neons, but I don't want to come off as childish - even though I love childish things (Disney, Pokémon...). I collect maps, postcards, photographs, pages from magazines and tourist books, anything from other countries, as well as music memorabilia. I'm strictly limited on budget, although I have a fair amount of time on my hands and can make stuff. I have a huge collection of photos, which I love to display. I also have a bunch of tchotchkes that I display around my room (around the house actually, when I'm in town).
I'm already concerned about my small dorm room looking cluttered (at least my half!) since there are a lot of things I have to keep around (wheelchairs, crutches, then the dorm furniture and some other furniture I own), so how can this work?
Also, I have some preframed posters, but the frames that I do have don't quite match (they're all black, but they're different styles and I think materials as well). Is there any way to still display everything, or do I have to wait until I can replace all my frames?
Oops, should've noted... my parents rent the house, and the dorms have rules, so I can't paint any walls.
Ack, I'm a little trigger happy with the enter key today... anyway, the furniture is provided by the university and we're not allowed to paint or remove it at all. So I'm really limited here...
Resolved Question: Why is Taylor Swift on the cover of Seventeen before she's on the cover of Country Weekly?
I just thought that was a little weird, since she's more country than-uh, not country. She's got 5 country songs vs one non-country song. You'd think that a country magazine would get her first. Not that I have anything against Seventeen.
And I'm sure she'll get on the cover of Country Weekly someday soon, and maybe they already have a bunch of country stars lined up, but then again, CW is every 2 weeks whereas Seventeen is every month.
Also what if Taylor realized she was getting more famous in the non-country scene and decided to leave her devoted country fans??? haha.
Anyway what do you think about it?
(sorry for my long explaination, hopefully it made sense).
Oh and I am aware that I placed this question in the Country Music section rather than in the Magazine section, and that's because I wanted country music fans to answer.
the real point of this question is that i'm mad at my Country magazine for not putting her on their cover. Cause I've been hoping for it.
And i was really happy when i saw her on the cover of Seventeen.
Resolved Question: can I hav the traduction of this text in italian??? thanks?
mi traducete questo pezzo in italian??? Pleaseeeeee è urgenteeeeeeee :'(
The Beatles were a pop and rock group from Liverpool, England formed in 1960. Primarily consisting of John Lennon (guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (guitar, vocals), and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals) throughout their career, The Beatles are recognised for leading the mid-1960s musical "British Invasion" into the United States. Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1950s rock and roll and homegrown skiffle, the group explored genres ranging from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock. Their clothes, styles, and statements made them trend-setters, while their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s. After the band broke up in 1970, all four members embarked on solo careers.
The Beatles are one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music.[1] The BeaBeatles are the best-selling musical group in history, selling over a billion records worldwide. [2] In the United Kingdom, The Beatles released more than 40 different singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one, earning more number one albums (15) than any other group in UK chart history.[3] This commercial success was repeated in many other countries; their record company, EMI, estimated that by 1985 they had sold over one billion records worldwide.[4] According to the Recording Industry Association of America, The Beatles have sold more albums in the United States than any other band.[5] In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Beatles number one on its list of 100 Greatest Rock & Roll Artists of All Time.[6] According to that same magazine, The Beatles' innovative music and cultural impact helped define the 1960s, and their influence on pop culture is still evident today.[1]

Resolved Question: Country songs that Focus on the Family won't approve of...?
Focus on the Family has this magazine and website called "Plugged In" that tells conservative Evangelical parents exactly how sinful every new media thing a kid might like is. But this is in their print magazine this month:
"20 Great Country Songs for Your Pro-Family Playlist
In this era of digital downloads, country music fans can feast their ears on a hearty helping of home-grown values ... à la carte. Now that's pedal-steel progress!"
Haven't read it, but am guessing that it involves the kind of sappy crap that prompted a DJ to joke that Jesus should get Artist of the Year a couple years ago.
So I'm wondering, does anyone else here get sick of country being turned into "wholesome" soccer mom music? And can y'all think of country songs that are *not* what Focus would call "pro-family"?
To start: "Kerosene" by Miranda Lambert, "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" by Big and Rich, "Bigger Fish to Fry" by Brad Paisley, "Sometimes It Takes Balls to be a Woman" by Elizabeth Cook.
Spiritually thinking, I think there will be more and funnier answers here.
And here's that website:

Resolved Question: What will your obituary say?
My girlfriend just sent me this via e-mail. A life lived well?
U. Utah Phillips, a Grammy-nominated folksinger, rabble-rouser and
anarchist whose wild white beard re-called his years as a tramp, died
of heart disease May 23 at his home in Nevada City, Calif. He was 73.
Phillips, who over four decades on the road combined storytelling with
song, described the plight of the work-ing class, the power of labor
unions and the necessity of direct action. He dubbed himself the
"Golden Voice of the Great Southwest," but his words, more than his
baritone voice, carried authority; he had been a soldier, railroader,
state archivist, union organizer, founder of a homeless shelter and
homeless himself.
He recorded the oft-overlooked value of rubber pockets, a necessity
when stealing soup. His tall tale "Gaffing" was a rich illustration of
populist scams. He honored the likes of Hood River Blackie and Fry Pan
Jack, and never hesitated to leaven his history lessons about the Ford
Strike of 1932, the Spokane Free Speech Fight of 1910 and the Canine
Corps of World War II with such hysterical stories as "Suspender" and
"Blackie & the Duck."
His fans have posted dozens of videos of him or his songs on YouTube;
in the mid-1990s, a new generation discovered him when folk musician
and entrepreneur Ani DiFranco edited about 100 hours of homemade tapes
of his performances and combined them with electronic hip-hop,
creating an album called "The Past Didn't Go Anywhere" (1996) and
releasing it on her Righteous Babe label.
In 1999, he collaborated with DiFranco on the live album "Fellow
Workers," which was nominated for a 2000 Grammy in the contemporary
folk album category.
"He was a real storyteller in his performances. He was just a
catalogue of people's history in United States," DiFranco said in an
interview this week. "He was so engaging on many, many levels."
Phillips was a card-carrying member of the Industrial Workers of the
World (Wobblies), a radical union that called for all working people
to unite. He ran, unsuccessfully, for president in 1976 as an
anarchist, but he never voted — except in 2004 when President Bush's
policies so enraged him, DiFranco said.
"He voted for 'Not That Guy,' " she said.
Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, Tom Waits and Arlo Guthrie
have all sung Utah Phillips songs, but he refused to let Johnny Cash
record his standards, his eldest son told the Sacramento Bee
newspaper, because he didn't trust the music industry.
The Boston Globe called him "the kind of guy you'd want to sit next to
on a long plane ride. Here's a rascal with a clutch of good songs
that'll entertain you, educate you, and probably even get you fired up
over the cur-rent state of politics."
He was born as Bruce Phillips on May 15, 1935, in Cleveland to two
labor organizers. His family moved to Utah in 1947, where Phillips
learned to play the ukulele from an instruction manual, then took to
the roads and rails of the West as a teenager. He adopted the name U.
Utah Phillips in emulation of country vocalist T. Texas Tyler.
"I worked with lots of old drunks only fit to shovel gravel, but they
all knew songs, and they showed me how to play them," he said.
Broke and out of work, he joined the Army in 1956 and was sent to
Korea for three years. "I wanted to learn a trade, but all they taught
me was how to shoot," he said in a Sing Out magazine interview. "What
I really learned in the army was how to be a pacifist."
After his discharge, he began to drink heavily and ride the rails. He
drew a distinction between what he did and those of hobos and bums,
quoting the 19th-century physician to the poor, Ben Reitman.
"A hobo works and wanders, a tramp dreams and wanders, and a bum
drinks and wanders," Phillips told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in
2006. "That's about right. I tramped. When I was on the freight
trains, I wasn't looking for work. I was looking to go from place to
place without paying any money."
He took a job with the Utah state archives, and he volunteered at Salt
Lake City's Joe Hill House, a shelter for tramps and itinerant
workers. His 1968 race for a U.S. Senate seat as the nominee of the
Peace & Freedom Party cost him his state job. He believed he was
blacklisted.
"All I had was an old VW bus, my guitar, $75, and a head full of
songs, old- and new-made," he wrote two weeks ago in a message to his
local radio station, KVMR-FM. "Fortunately ... I landed at Caffe Lena
in Saratoga Springs, New York. That seemed to be ground zero for folk
music at the time. ... It took me a solid two years to realize I was
no longer an unemployed organizer, but a traveling folk singer and

Resolved Question: If you were going to be in People magazine, what inside info about you would be put up next to your picture?
Another question from an application form I'm filling out.. I thought it interesting, and its certainly different from the usual questions we see on here

- Born in Oklahoma City, hometown of Richmond, VA, a perfect blend of the 'country girl' and 'city girl'
- spontaneous, sometimes to a fault
- artistic
- cant go a day without a cup of coffee
- a little obsessive- compulsive at times
- enjoys singing in the shower, in the car, anytime music is playing
man I could go on and on.. what about you guys? if you were in People magazine, what inside info about you would be put up next to your picture?
hmmm... okay 2 stars, yet no answers. that's different..lol
Resolved Question: Is my poem too...vituperative?
He is Maryland
Part of the country, but virtually unimportant
The “Phat” sneakers that were popular at one time
But are now tacky and old
Sitting in your closet
Begging to be cool again
He is the devil
Spending his lonesome days
Burning in the depths of the underworld
His red skin repelling everyone
His dreadful torch threatening the cruel lives around him
He is Los Angeles
Pretty on the exterior
Cold and fake inside
Sweet smiles and styles strutting around
Deadly secrets hidden from the tabloids
He sounds of hard, edgy punk music
Non-repulsive to only a small group of people
Pulsing harsh melodies in the heads of civilians
Horrible, cruel tunes stuck in your head with no remorse
He is an annoying weed
Growing around you-
You lack the power to cease it
It chokes you, teases you, torments you
While you stand there crying for help
He’s the most disgusting magazine
Staring at you from the supermarket checkout
Stamping its horrible images into your skull
He is bitter coffee
Enjoyable and relaxing to adults
While his peers taste sour, tasteless liquid
Listening to him is reading a Goosebumps book in the middle of the night
Shudders creeping up your spine as you indulge yourself in horror
He is being alone in the Kalahari Desert
Bitten by countless insects
Dehydrated in the overpowering sun
Wondering why you ever went there in the first place
He is a buzzing cicada
Flying up from the ground
Torturing citizens with their mind numbing sound
He is a haunted mansion
Tempting with its size
But evil crawls throughout the walls
Waiting for the perfect moment to make you scream
He is chili powder
The harsh spices ripping up your tongue on contact
Burning as they travel down your hollow throat
He is a lemon
The sour sting of juice biting your sensitive taste buds
Making you purse your lips and squint your eyes shut
He is cauliflower
The vegetable no one wants to taste
As they stuff it in their napkin out of their mother’s vision
He is blue dinosaur ice cream
Childish and silly
Staring at you from the menu of pure sugar
He is a broken, plastic McDonald’s toy
The consolation prize for bearing something utterly disgusting
He is collecting old, rotting teeth
Nostalgic at first,
Putrid for the rest of time
He is a rusty penny
Useless and outdated
Demeaning the smirk on Abe Lincoln’s face
He is Grammar
Staring at you from an overstuffed textbook
Laughing at your creative brain
Teasing you
For your mind is unconventional
As if mere imagination is a sin
Sorry guys...vituperative means mean and slandering.
Resolved Question: What do you think? All opinions welcome....?
So we are planning a destination wedding the UK. As part of it we are treating our relatives and close friends to a week long trip in London we are paying for different outings for our guests to come along with us, as an option, during our celebration week (football game, tour of the country side, etc)
Because of this we have hired a 2 photo journalists who will literally be meeting us at the airport the day we leave and staying with us for the week, and taking photos at the wedding and all of these outings. So my question is should we treat them as a guests (i.e. we are giving our guests bags for the plane ride ipod nanos pre loaded with a few TV shows and music, along with magazines, etc should they receive one? Same goes with welcome bags, etc)
I am saying yes, as number one it is polite, and number two I believe it will encourage them to do the best they can. I mean I know normally you wouldn't give them favors but this is a bit different right?
If you call up your local store and say you will order 70 ipods they will sell them for like 29 bucks a pop, at least around here.
We are so excited about it! haha
No they are meeting us at the airport in Jersey.
We are paying for their trips and incidentals as part of the contract

Resolved Question: Do you resent your ancestors assimilating and losing your families' cultures?
I have to admit that this question was spawned in my mind by the recent debates on Undocumented immigration and controversies with the overwhelming Hispanic culture here in the southwest US.
It seems that most older waves of immigrants went severely out of their way to quash the practice of their culture when they arrived here and rushed to assimilate as "Americans". Many refused to speak their language with their children and gave up celebrations and other distinct features and connections with their old country.
I'm half Irish and a few of my friends are of Italian, Egyptian and Greek heritage, yet our families could be interchangeable. Being so surrounded by the Mexican culture, we realize now we miss having a heritage and wish I could hear blaring Irish music, see Irish language billboards in my neighborhoods, whatever. Basically, I guess I'm really jealous of the Mexicans in this nation who have their cultural centers, tv stations, magazines, congressional delegation even.

• Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty won the WWF tag team title from Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart in October of 1990 at a taping for Saturday Night's Main Event. Neidhart had been fired and was filling contractual obligations, which including jobbing the tag titles to another team. In what should have been a minor point, the top rope broke at one point during the match. The Rockers defended the titles for a week after that, but then Neidhart was re-hired by the WWF, and Vince McMahon decided that the title change never actually happened, in one of the goofier decisions of the 90s, and one of many to affect the careers of Shawn and Bret. As an explanation, a story was sent to Pro Wrestling Illustrated about the rope break causing an "unfair working environment" for both teams, and hence the title reign was annulled. This was simply to cover up for the fact that they reported the title change as fact a week prior and needed a reason to no longer report it as such. The title change was edited out of the Main Event broadcast, and thus went down in history that the Rockers never had the belt.

Resolved Question: What can I do for my first Valentine's Day with my boyfriend? Anything creative and fun suggestions??
My bf is 20 and into heavy metal/grunge/emo music. He's all about the rocker look and plays the guitar. He is a photographer for a not so major skateboarding magazine. I'm 18 and not so grungy. i love pop/country/hip-hop music and high school musical (haha, it's so cute!). I laugh and giggle and smile alot while my bf is more of the "sensitive" type. :)
We get along so well, we're totally in love!
I want to do something for him that will totally blow his obsession of black eyeliner out of the water! lol, I want our Valentines day to be fabulous!
Is there any creative ideas or experiences you can share? preferably, something more for him...
Voting Question: Anybody up for establishing a band and rule the world?
As in the subject, plus up to 24 years old and hard-wired inability to live doing anything else other than music.
I thought it's a good place to look for people here. Heck, it's 21 century, Metallica had to do with Recycler magazine, so why not make a use out of internet for a change?
We could post some videos on youtube, check each other's abilities that way.
I'm located Europe, looking for people from all over(actually I really like the idea of a band composed of people where everyone is from different countries)
If you're interested let me know, we should talk about it.
Lol guys, it's not like my one and only shot right here on answers and I frantically keep my fingers crossed..
Open as I am in the music, any people who are interested in making a band are alright, long as you're skilled, that is:)
That's why I posted a question here, the whole rest is yet to talk about, if you're interested, talk to me, we'll see what can we see.
Just need to check out what this msn is all about.
Oh, about Bono and U2, dear little sister, don't you worry bout a thing today;-)

Resolved Question: 4 yr college graduate seriously considering enlisting in the Airforce. What are my pros and cons?
Making a long story as short a possible, I had no direction in high school as far as a career goal; however, I was determined to get an education. I was not only successful in earning a degree from a major university; I also discovered what I wanted to do with my life and my true passion. I studied Telecommunications in college where my graphic designing and web development skills were enhanced. In that field I gained a passion for the fashion and entertainment industry. Once out of school I soon realized Corporate USA was not for me. I don’t have a problem with commitment and having someone to answer to, I just don’t like being limited and not allowed to advance and become more educated. Of course there is more to my reason but for now that is the gist of it. I have never been the type of person to sit in just one spot and I always got a thrill from learning something new. I decided to become an entrepreneur where I have more control over my career growth. Business is pretty good and I love being an entrepreneur but I feel there is more I need to learn before I can make it to the next level.
I am a strong believer that anything worth having takes hard work. I eventually want to own and head a magazine publication and photography studio to market music and fashion. I know you are thinking what in the HELL does this have to do with enlisting in the air force! Well, at this point in my life I feel I have direction and a goal but I just need a little more training and experience. In other words before leading a publication I need to gain more leadership and problem solving skills. I already have the talent and skill, but that isn’t enough. I feel hands on training is the best form of education and I’m willing to devote part of my life to get it because I know the benefits are worth wild.
So why the air force instead of a publication or advertising firm? I’ve done it already and I feel I could learn more from the air force as far as leadership skills and work ethic (which I have). Also, I would be progressively moving up a ladder instead of staying in one position for 5 year prior to advancing to another one. In the air force I could gain assistance with paying off my student loans and have the option of working on a master’s degree while having my classes paid for. Lastly, I love to travel and I wouldn’t mind traveling for an honorable cause like serving our country. I do want to see more of the world before settling down.
I am definitely aware of the risk factor, but I see it this way...what part of the world is safe? I’m from Detroit! No offense, but anything can happen anywhere. I’m a strong believer in prayer and believe I’m protected anywhere I go. Life period is challenging, but I feel I will gain so much more from achieving the challenges of the air force, toward my life goal. Do you think I’m making a mistake?

what is the most popular musical instrument magazine in your country ? i mean the one most dealers will buy . Especially in the U.S. , there are so many music shops ,which is the best publication for them to get news in this industry and also to guide their purchase ?
Resolved Question: Is there a magazine designated to country music?
Resolved Question: WHERE DO WE GO FROM iin sex education to our kids?
Standard sex education today "tends to be morally bankrupt. It begins with a biological description of sexual function and fertility (known in the trade as the organ concert) and it ends with indoctrination in conception, abortion and venereal disease. Basic to this pedagogy is the belief that youngsters will not accept moral ideals and should at least (or at most) be helped to cut their losses." - Father James Burtchaell
Raising children these days is not an easy job. No wonder many Americans do not want to get married, and if they do, do not want to have children. Each child needs the individual attention of both parents, and time, a most precious gift that we are sometimes unable to find for our children. Parents who were themselves raised either in a different country or in a different generation, where peer pressure was different, have more difficulty in raising today's children. They also do not get much help from television or the school system. What kinds of suggestions do I have for them.
First of all, I do not like using the phrase, 'setting limits'. No one likes to take orders these days in this free society. A better term would be educated guidelines for both parents and youth. Even better is the term 'informed consent', the kind we use in medicine before asking a patient to agree to a procedure or a test. Once a person is informed of the consequences of right and wrong, then he or she can make an intelligent decision. Unfortunately, smaller children are not able to make that decision for themselves, so parents will have to do it for them until the child reaches the age of maturity.
Children have a right to be treated as people, in an environment that is conducive for their growth and maturity and to become useful citizens. Children have a right to love, care, discipline and protection from their parents. Children have a right to receive education and financial protection for the future.
Parents have a right to receive love, respect and affection from their children. Parents have a right to educate and discipline their children. Parents have a right to know about their children and monitor other influences affecting them. Parents have a right to say no to unusual financial and other demands of children.
The next question is, "Why set limits or give guidelines? Why not let the boat sail without a sail in an uncharted sea?" If it does, most likely this boat will end up at a destination where it never wanted to be. Thus, not only do we need to prepare for the present but also for the future. All those children who are adults now, who were reared with discipline, appreciate what their parents did when they were children in terms of discipline, although it appeared at that time that the discipline was too tough."
The next question becomes, "In what areas should we set limits? The most important area is time management. Children, as well as adults, waste too much time in watching TV, listening to music, talking on the telephone, and other unnecessary activities. They must realize that whatever time they are wasting, they are taking it away from some more useful work like homework or housework. Therefore, they must set limits and assign priorities with respect to their time management. Their health comes first. Next comes homework and education and then time spent in improving interpersonal relationships.
Another question is who should set the limit? Traditionally, it is seen as the father's role and sometimes the mother's role, an elder brother for a younger brother, or an elder sister for a younger sister. On the other hand, the truth is the one who is better qualified and more experienced should set the limits for the one who is less qualified and less experienced.
In terms of religion, the one with stronger faith and righteous deeds should set limits for the one who has less, regardless of age. Sometimes it is seen that the parents are less practicing Muslims than the children themselves. In that case, the children should advise the parents. Teachers have a much greater role to play. However, the limits should be taken in the light of permission and responsibility from God.
SOME SUGGESTIONS TO PARENTS
Choose a good neighborhood school. Know the teachers personally and interact with them. Neglected children expose themselves to various abuses. Supervise their homework.
Watch TV with your children and select good educational and entertainment programs. Comment on the negative aspects of the program. Cut down TV time to less than twelve hours on weekdays and twenty-two hours on weekends. Encourage outdoor activity. Encourage them to read newspapers and good magazines
Growing children may not obey an order, but they will do things out of love and respect for their parents. Love and respect on a mutual basis is our best weapon against all the negative influences.
Parental love should be unconditional and not based on their achievements. Love should not be confused with permissiveness or overlooking a child's faults. Pointing out faults of the child should not diminish the love by the parents.
Children are not bom knowing all the rights or wrongs in social norm. They need clear guidelines about good and bad behavior. The greatest effect is the parent's attitude, example and behavior rather than words. Parents should set the same standards for themselves as they set for their children and share with them information of all kinds whether related to the outside world or inside the family. It is not the knowledge which hurts but the lack of it, or misuse of it, which causes problems.
Parents should help children to make appropriate decisions and be responsible for them. Younger children can only make decisions about the present (i.e., what clothes to wear that day), but older children can make decisions that may affect their future, under parental guidance (i.e., selection of school, college and career). Children should be taught to share household work, keep their desk and room clean, and how to handle their 'own' money. Let them spend all their money and suffer from the lack of it.
The overprotective and anxious parent cannot raise a confident child ready to deal with the real world. This child will feel danger everywhere. While the child has to be supervised, he or she does not need the physical presence of the parent all the time. They should raise a strong child.
The parent who cannot say no to a child spoils the child. This child will make unreasonable demands and put on a manipulative show. The parents have to discipline themselves in order to discipline their children. Parents who take sides in sibling rivalry encourage jealousy and hate. They should not prefer boys over girls, fair complexions over dark ones, the honor roll over an average student.
Neither party can influence the other unless they communicate. Find a time and place to talk to your children. Children are sometimes in a 'bad mood' upon returning from school, loaded with homework. The best time to have a chat is during breakfast and evening dinner. During this time, the parent can inform the child of all the good things he or she did that day and ask the child the same and share his or her problems.
When you do argue, do it patiently, one person speaking at a time. Be specific and separate emotion from facts. Speak in a low tone, Screaming decreases the intake of the message.
Practice active listening from each other's view, even if you don't agree. Refrain from sarcasm, name calling, humiliating, pointing your finger, etc. Encourage each other even in areas of shortcoming, rather than making fun or making a negative remark, i.e., if the child brings a B- report, then instead of, "I doubt you will ever improve or pass your exam," say, "B is better than C," and "I am sure you are talented enough to do better. May I help you in the areas that you have difficulties in at school?"
The purpose of giving them chores is to keep them busy as well as to teach them responsibility. Initially it may be boring but eventually will become routine. The assignment should be according to age and not the sex of the child. However, children should not be forced into doing things, or otherwise they will rebel. By the same token, they should not be penalized for mistakes. The best payment for a job is a smile, hug, thank you or praising the child in the presence of others, rather than money. While it may be all right to give an allowance, it should not be tied to the job.
SETTING LIMITS IN GENDER INTERACTION
In Islam intimate mixing of youth and adults of opposite sexes by themselves is not permitted for social reasons. Thus we oppose dating and all such activities. Nevertheless, there is a need for Muslim boys and girls over eighteen to get to know each other so that when they attain the age for marriage, hopefully, they will choose a Muslim spouse. This can be done in a supervised setting whether during a community function, mosque, ISNA or MYNA convention.
Talking to a non-mahram for business or religious reasons is permitted in Islam. Both boys and girls, men and women, should lower their gaze, dress appropriately and talk in a business manner and not in a seductive way. The right of God is that He should be believed in, He should be worshiped and He should be obeyed. Thus, if we set limits and discipline ourselves, the reward is immense and includes not only success in this world but also in the hereafter with the pleasure of God.

Resolved Question: yooo is britney spears crazy i'm not bein mean but plz tell me and why?
More than any other single artist, Britney Spears was the driving force behind the return of teen pop in the late '90s. The blockbuster success of the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys certainly paved the way for her own commercial breakthrough, but Spears didn't just become a star -- she was a bona fide pop phenomenon. Not only did she sell millions of records, she was a media fixture regardless of what she was (or wasn't) doing; among female singers of the era (many of whom followed in her footsteps), her celebrity star power was rivaled only by Jennifer Lopez. From the outset, Spears' sex appeal was an important part of her image; the video for her debut single, "...Baby One More Time," outfitted her in full Catholic-school regalia, and sent her well on the way to becoming an international sex symbol. Yet Spears' handlers seemed to be trying to have it both ways -- there was a definite tension between the wholesome innocence Spears tried to project for her female audience, and the titillating sexuality that enticed so many male fans. Those marketing tactics made Spears a somewhat controversial figure, the subject of endless debates concerning appropriate role models for teenage girls. Early on, Spears tried to defuse the controversy by preaching abstinence until marriage, and even denied that she was consciously cultivating such a sexualized image. Of course, the more provocative and revealing her on-stage wardrobe became, the less plausible that claim seemed. But apart from her ability to tiptoe the line between virginal coquette and brazen tart, Spears had a secret weapon in Swedish pop mastermind Max Martin, who had a hand in the vast majority of her hits as a writer and/or producer. With Martin crafting the sort of contemporary dance-pop and sentimental ballads that made stars of the Backstreet Boys, Spears kept on delivering the goods commercially, as her first three albums all topped the charts.
Britney Jean Spears was born December 2, 1981, in the small town of Kentwood, LA, and began performing as a singer and dancer at a young age. With a nationally televised appearance on Star Search already under her belt, Spears auditioned for the Disney Channel's The New Mickey Mouse Club at age eight. The producers turned her down as too young, but one of them took an interest and introduced her to an agent in New York. Spears spent the next three years studying at the Professional Performing Arts School, and also appeared in several television commercials and off-Broadway plays. At 11, she returned to The New Mickey Mouse Club for a second audition, and this time made the cut. Although her fellow Mouseketeers included an impressive array of future stars -- *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez, Christina Aguilera, and Felicity actress Keri Russell -- the show was canceled after Spears' second season. She returned to New York at age 15 and set about auditioning for pop bands and recording demo tapes, one of which eventually landed her a deal with Jive Records.
Spears entered the studio with top writer/producers like Eric Foster White (Boyzone, Whitney Houston, Backstreet Boys) and Max Martin (Ace of Base, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC). In late 1998, Jive released her debut single, the Martin-penned "...Baby One More Time." Powered by its video, in which Spears and a troupe of dancers were dressed as Catholic-school jailbait, the single shot to the top of the Billboard charts. When Spears' debut album of the same title was released in early 1999, it entered the charts at number one and stayed there for six weeks. Once the ubiquitous lead single died down, the album kept spinning off hits: the Top Ten "(You Drive Me) Crazy," the near-Top 20 ballad "Sometimes," and the Top 20 "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart." By the end of 1999, ...Baby One More Time had sold ten million copies, and went on to sell a good three million more on top of that. Its success touched off a wave of young pop divas that included Christina Aguilera, Pink, Jessica Simpson, and Mandy Moore. Spears was a superstar, drooled over in countless magazines, including a Rolling Stone cover that prompted immediate speculation about the still-17 year old having gotten breast implants.
By the time ...Baby One More Time finally started to lose steam on the singles and album charts, Spears was ready to release her follow-up. Oops!...I Did It Again appeared in the spring of 2000, and the title track was an instant smash, racing into the Top Ten. The album entered the charts at number one and sold over a million copies in its first week of release, setting a new record for single-week sales by a female artist. Follow-up singles included "Lucky," the gold-selling "Stronger," and "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know," which was co-written by country diva Shania Twain and her producer Mutt Lange. A year after its release, Oops!...I Did It Again had sold over nine million copies. Rumors that Spears was dating *N Sync heartthrob (and fellow ex-Mouseketeer) Justin Timberlake were eventually confirmed, which only added to the media attention lavished on her.
For her next album, Spears looked ahead to a not-so-distant future when both she and much of her audience would be growing up. Released in late 2001, Britney tried to present the singer as a more mature young woman, and was accompanied by mild hints that her personal life wasn't always completely puritanical. It became her third straight album to debut at number one, although this time around the singles weren't as successful; "I'm a Slave 4 U," "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman," and "Overprotected" all missed the Top Ten. In early 2002, Spears' feature-film debut, Crossroads, hit theaters, but its commercial performance was somewhat disappointing; moreover, her romance with Timberlake fizzled not long after. Spears next made a cameo appearance in Mike Myers' Austin Powers: Goldmember, and contributed a remix of "Boys" to the soundtrack. Meanwhile, sales of Britney stalled at four million copies, perhaps in part because a new breed of teenage female singer/songwriters, like Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne, was emerging as an alternative to the highly packaged teen queens. Spears took a break from recording and performing for several months, and began work on a new album in early 2003. The results, In the Zone, reflected a wish to be taken seriously as a mature (though still highly sexualized) adult. Predictably, it topped the charts and launched several singles into orbit, including the musically adventurous "Toxic," "Everytime," and "Me Against the Music."
In the Zone hit number one on the Billboard 200, and "Toxic" snagged a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. But by 2004 there were no longer any illusions of Britney's personal life being all wholesome candy canes and kisses. First there was the star's bizarre two-day marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander, followed by the controversial, highly sexualized Onyx Hotel tour, which was eventually canceled (allegedly because of a knee injury) despite positive financial numbers. Starbucks and cigarettes were Britney's constant accessories in the endless paparazzi photos, and the revelation of her relationship with former backup dancer Kevin Federline made the tabloids even more ravenous. Spears and Federline married in September and were tabloid regulars in the months after the ceremony. (A photo of a barefoot Britney leaving a dingy gas station bathroom made the Internet rounds.) The couple also starred in Chaotic, a UPN reality show consisting mostly of their own home videos that was met with howls from the critics and blogs.
2005 was no less eventful for Spears. She released Greatest Hits: My Prerogative that January, but it was the announcement of her pregnancy that really garnered the headlines. Sean Preston Federline was born in September, and a bidding war ensued for first rights to the baby photos. As the hubbub surrounding Sean's birth continued, Britney released a remix album just in time for the holiday season. In 2006,Spears discovered she was pregnant again; shortly after the birth of her second son, Jayden James Federline, she divorced Federline. Early in 2007, Spears went to Malibu, CA's Promises Treatment Center; when she left, she began working on her comeback album and performed a few small shows at House of Blues locations in Los Angeles, San Diego, Anaheim, and Las Vegas that May. Later that summer, however, plans to release an album were pushed back to 2008. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

Resolved Question: elvis alive?
The only time I feel alive... is when I'm in front of my audience, my people. That's the only time I really feel like I'm human."
"Long after I'm gone, what I did today will be heard by someone. I just want them to get the best of what I had." (Elvis Presley)
Is Elvis Alive ?
There are many reasons to believe that Elvis Presley is dead. When the only arguments to believe otherwise come from crazed fans and supermarket tabloids, it is easy to dismiss the possibility that Elvis is still among us. However, the circumstances surrounding Elvis' alleged death are quite mysterious and beg closer attention. As it turns out, there are many concrete reasons to believe that Elvis is still alive.
The Gravesite.
Elvis' name is misspelled on his headstone. Elvis' full name is Elvis Aron Presley, but on his grave his middle name is spelled incorrectly with two a's. His father would not have let this happen. When Elvis was born, his name was misspelled on his birth certificate, and his father went to great lengths to get it put right. The unique spelling of Elvis' name was important to his family.
Elvis' current "resting place" is in between his father and his grandmother and not next to his mother where he had adamantly requested. It is doubtful that the people close to him would allow these things to happen. Elvis is a superstitious man, enough so that he wouldn't tempt fate by putting his real name on a tombstone, or violate the ground next to his mother until he was ready to be placed there for good.
