  • Open Question: Does my boyfriend have money problems or is he just irresponsible?
when I first met my boyfriend, I noticed people were calling him all the time, and they are collectors. One is for credit card, another is for a computer loan, and the third is for his car loan. He would say it's not a problem, and he just forgot. Then he would pay them and the calls would stop. He always insists everything is okay. Then I noticed yesterday we went to buy something cheap at the store and his debit card got declined. He insisted he had money in the bank. Now this morning someone from a 1-800 # is calling him again, and he thinks its just a sales call but they call all the time. Does my boyfriend have money problems? Or is he just irresponsible and paying things late? What can I do to help him? I am also worried because I dont want to be surprised in the future if we get married that suddenly I have all his debts to deal with. Please someone give me some advice of what to do. Other than this, he's a great boyfriend and a wonderful person.

  • Open Question: Is there really a class action law suit against Paypal & Ebay? Please check this out and tell me?
Ok, I got an email stating this (summarized): You may be eligible to receive a benefit from a class action settlement if you funded a PayPal transaction using a source other than your credit card between February 1, 2004 and the present. A federal court has directed that this notice be sent to inform you of a proposed class action settlement. Records show that you may be eligible to receive a benefit under the proposed settlement. The settlement will resolve a lawsuit against eBay Inc. and PayPal, Inc. (collectively, "Defendants") involving claims arising out of representations in the PayPal User Agreement regarding PayPal's policies and practices for responding to refund requests from those customers who pay for transactions through PayPal using funds from funding sources other than credit cards. Under the settlement, Defendants have agreed to establish a settlement fund of $3.5 million to pay claims to potential class members. The proposed Class is defined as: all U.S. based PayPal account holders who funded a PayPal transaction after February 1, 2004, using a source other than a credit card: (i) who subsequently requested a reversal of the transaction through PayPal's prevailing Buyer Complaint Policy and/or Buyer Protection Policy (collectively, "Policies"); (ii) who did not receive a refund equal to 100% of their transaction payment in response to such request from PayPal or their bank; and (iii) who, through the timely submission of a Claim Form under oath, attest to a reasonable and good faith belief that they would have received a full reversal of such payment had they used a valid credit card in their possession at the time of the subject transaction to fund the payment and filed a timely chargeback request with their credit card issuing bank. Excluded from the Class are any judicial officer to whom this Litigation is assigned; PayPal, eBay and any of its affiliates; any current or former employees, officers, or directors of PayPal or eBay; any Persons currently residing outside of the United States; and, all Persons who timely and validly request exclusion from the Class pursuant to the Notice. said to visit http://www.steelesettlement.com Is this for real, or is it some sort of fraud to steal information? • Open Question: Defaulted credit card: Early settlement at reduced rate vs continued repayments. Advice needed.?
My credit card balance is in the hands of Sechiari Clark & Mitchell on behalf of Lloyds TSB. The balance is about £4400 and I am currently paying £50 per month. There is no interest applied and I am not incurring any charges. They have now offered the option to make a lump sum payment of 60% of the balance and they will drop the other 40%. Is this a good deal or not? I know that due to inflation that it's not as simple as it may at first appear, but I don't really know how to take inflation into account in my calculations. The other factor is that the money I would use to pay the balance is in an ISA earning 6.05% AER (variable). I'm not too concerned about my credit record, but any advice regarding how a part settlement would look compared to the eventual full settlement would also be appreciated.

  • Open Question: Are you going to be more careful booking a flight with a cheap, small airline company now?
Another airline company has gone bust and left passangers who were on a ticket only deal with them stranded. Those who paid by credit card should be OK - if they have enough on their card for a flight to get them home! ABTA and ATOL only protect holidays apparently so many who paid cash or used a debit card have lost their money. The company says it is because of the high cost of fuel - they were paying $130 a barrel whereas the large companies got better deals paying $68 - 80 a barrel. As this situation is likely to get worse, would you think twice before buying a ticket only from a small company as they are so much more vulnerable?

  • Open Question: Spent too much on my debit card- by 13 cents- am I in trouble?
I went to Wal Mart last night around 10:45pm and spent $21.03, but I only had $20 in cash on me, and $0.03 in my wallet, so I used my Wachovia debit card to pay for the last dollar. I thought I had about $3 left in there, so I thought there was no big deal... until I checked how much was on my card when I got home. The Wachovia automated voice guy told me I overdrew by $0.13- which freaked me out because I've never overdrawn before. I was planning on going to the bank later today and depositing about $3 in my account so that there's something there to keep my account alive. Will the $3 become $2.87 because of the negative $0.13? Am I going to have to pay a fee? Will I be reported for overdrawing by $0.13? It's been less than 24 hours since I overdrew, so can I just put some money in there and the negative will go away and I won't be in trouble with the bank? I'm only 18... I don't want to ruin my credit. My boyfriend just put in $5 for me at 2:10pm today. Now it says I have about $4 and 80-something cents. Hopefully I won't be fined for having negative money in my account for less than 24 hours. Wachovia charges a $35 fee by the way... which is a little rediculous... Anyway, thank you guys so much for your answers, they were a big help! :)

  • Open Question: Combined score of 629?
My credit scores are...591, 694, 605. Does this mean mine FICO score is 629(when all added and divided by 3)? I want to buy a new car, Scion xb - $16,000. I have a charged off credit card acct., and a paid off car loan, which was for 2 years and always current, on my credit report. With that car loan, I had such a high interest rate (around 22%). It was ridiculous, but the only loan I could get at the time. Now, my score is better and I'm wondering what kind of percentage rate I would be looking at??? I know I have the upper hand right now b/c the economy sucks and car sales are struggling. I will also have a down payment of at least $3,000. Comments please!

  • Open Question: What is the point of a tax cut if it creates a record deficit? We still pay it back + interest?
Why would I want to put everything I do on a credit card? Perhaps for a small period of time what I am paying out will be less, but then when that catches up with me I am going to end up paying far more. What is the logical point of doing that? Why would I want the government to give a huge tax cut to corporations so I can pay back their share plus interest?
  • Open Question: Where in the constitution does is speak to welfare?
Or taking care of the irresponsible among us who have high credit card bills they don't want to pay, or bought house they KNEW they couldn't afford? I know Obama pandered to all of them last night in his speech, but tell me where I can find the right to be supported totally, and in full by the Government if I choose not to work, or pay my credit card bills, or for the house I bought within the Constitution?? My point is there are generations of Americans (and illegals) who benefit from welfare, because of the blank check it now is. There's no more accountability, now people feel entitled to governement support, and its just sad. Hello, I am immigrating to America but I still would like to keep my bank account here. I have a credit card which will be expiried in 1 years and few months. I want a new card so it will expire in 5 years. Can I go to my bank and ask them to replace my card with a new one so I'll have a card that will be expiried in 5 years and not in 1 year? Did I ask for a loan? I do not think so Brother Otter: I plan to immigrate to America. I would like to open a bank account there but not yet and thats why I want to go with a valid Credit Card. I just bought something online on Amazon. I can pay credit card bills online so does anyone know how long before my online service will recognize that I have a bill? • Open Question: Can credit card companies do this?
I was wondering if there are banks out there that can allow me to open up a 2nd account to transfer the amount that is keeping my balance over the credit limit then once I pay off like lets say $1000, I can close the 2nd card and move the balance that I transferred over back? I know companies do credit history but will they deny anyone who has their balance over the credit limit also? All I need is 1 month to pay off my credit card over the limit and bring it down under the limit then I can close the 2nd card. Every time I put back $700 into my principle balance, because of my high mininum payment it appears it goes back to the over limit balance no matter what and I hate going over the limit and paying the high fees & making my credit history look bad.

  • Open Question: When will it be legal for me to work in the United States again?
I am a registered sex offender, and because it shows up on background checks, I can not work for any business that does background checks. I am a United States citizen. Many of you might see this as justified. I have two convictions, one for indecent exposure (2000), one for sexual assault (2001). The second was for touching a clothed woman for one second on the upper part or her left breast; think of how much worse Arnold Schwarzenegger has done. He paid someone off to keep from getting a conviction. I have worked in temporary positions for 3 major banks after both convictions; one of them nine times. I have also worked for other major corporations, yet permanent work is elusive. I have since lost my home and two weeks ago applied for welfare. I have never before had public assistance of any kind. I received $465 immediately in food stamps and will next week get cash and medical. The medical will come in handy since I have a Pterygium in my right eye; it costs $3,000 to treat but will most likely be 100% paid for. My eldest son will soon receive a free University of California edcation since I have little income; he starts school next month. My house was foreclosed and the same banks which will not hire me will have to eat $60,000 in credit card debt. The cost to the government is litterally just beginning. I am very ambitius and am currenty involve in many charitble causes. Because of the nature of the crimes I am not on any public database; there are no restrictions on where I can live or who I am be with; children included. I have no issue with needing to register, but the fact that even after I had these records expunged; cleared by the courts, it still shows on background checks. I do not need anyone to give me their self-righteous views. Just think of the things the police and miltary get aways with on a regular basis; the wealthy also. Any suggestions on how to get by this obstacle? I have considered moving to Canada. I have visited there 3 times in the past. There are no retrictions on where I can travel. I forgot to mention that I have been to group and individual counseling. I have learned from my mistakes, can I just move on and work again? I do not want public assistance of any kind.
  • Open Question: Keypad combination on a fire safe?
My husband is a control freak and took my licence/credit cards, etc. I just found a safe (a small fire safe) with a keypad on it. I tried several combinations and it's obviously 4 digits. Does anyone know how to figure out what 4 numbers are used, then I can figure out the rest. I've tried every combination I could think of. I was thinking of leaving a film or something on the keypad and then after he uses it I can see what 4 numbers were touched? But I can't think of anything that'll work. THank you.

  • Open Question: Can someone answer these questions about Obama's speech?
In last night's speech, Obama said the following: (APPLAUSE) Now is the time to help families with paid sick days and better family leave, because nobody in America should have to choose between keeping their job and caring for a sick child or an ailing parent. Now is the time to change our bankruptcy laws, so that your pensions are protected ahead of CEO bonuses, and the time to protect Social Security for future generations. And now is the time to keep the promise of equal pay for an equal day’s work, because I want my daughters to have the exact same opportunities as your sons. (APPLAUSE) 1) Didn't Bill Clinton past the Family Leave Act that gave you sick days and guaranteed your job should you have to leave for an extended illness? 2) Didn't Obama's running mate Joe Biden support the current Bankruptcy act that Bush signed? So he and Joe are at odd over this? For the record, Biden's home state famously holds the incorporation papers of large credit card and financial services companies. He obviously knows how his bread is buttered in Delaware, which means a "profile in courage" by 'ol Joe on the bankruptcy bill was out of the question. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jackson-williams/joe-biden-true-friend-of_b_120776.html 3) How is Obama going to "protect Social Security for future generations"? Again, just words in a speech and again no details. To me this means that the FICA tax is going up again. Will the promises to raise taxes ever stop? Also what is wrong with privitizing Social Security? The Public Employee Retirement Service is a private organization and they can pass want they put into it along to their children. If it is good enough for Obama and crew, why can't you and I do this? 4) The equal pay issue. How is he going to do this? Most women that I have worked with make less money not because they don't do equal work, its because she and the husband decided to have children. So she ends up off for a year or two or five before they come back to work. Thus the man who has been working gets raises, while she is taking care of the kids. Anyone care to talk about this? On topic 4, I am a pig I guess. But here is the law: The Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act protect workers against wage discrimination. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 prohibits unequal pay to men and women who perform the same job. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits wage discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, religion or national origin. In 1981, the Supreme Court made it clear that Title VII is broader than the Equal Pay Act, and prohibits wage discrimination even when the jobs are not identical. However, wage discrimination laws are poorly enforced and cases are extremely difficult to prove and win. Stronger legislation is needed to address wage discrimination. So basically what it sounds like we need stronger enforcement of the "Equal pay law", now more laws dealing with equal pay. Come on people, think! Also see this article: http://www.three-peaks.net/equalpay.htm Oh by the way, I know many women that make 10 times more than I do who work for General Electric. However they are working 80 hour weeks, working until 4 AM, and traveling all over the place. Their husband are the ones making far less than their spouse because they have the high flying career. I would be happy to be a kept man. What are people saying about the speech: Charles Davilla, a retired aircraft engineer and Democrat from Downey, California, said that while Obama said some of ``the things I wanted to hear,'' he ``didn't say how he was going to accomplish them.''
