  • Open Question: What do I need to host my own website? - Mac OS X or Win XP?
I will construct the site myself through microsoft word. I will have 1 or 2 connections a day so I dont have to worry about internet speed. What I will need is: A way to have an input form. Example: Have a link to a template that information can be placed on. The option to submit needs to be available so that the template and the information is sent to 7 or 8 people via email. A Forum or way of posting ideas. I know I can get a free forum account on the internet and post it in via html...I don't think that will be a problem but if I can host it myself that is even better. My question is: What free software or program can I get that will help me host it or how do I do it. I can run either Windows XP on my pc or I can use my iMac OS 10.5 (PC preferably). I know to enable sharing and what not and the domain name is already bought and paid for (a static ip will do for now, I just need to test it). What program do I need so I can put the word document on the net for people to access etc?

  • Open Question: Web based service company - do I need trademark if I have domain name and no competition with similar service?
I am planning to launch a web based service company (let's say goldenrock for example). If I have a domain (www.goldenrock.com), do I need to register this as a trademark? To keep initial cost down, I want to wait for few months. What could go wrong in next few months? How real is the possibility that someone takes my service name and registers it as a trademark even though I am running a service before him/her? What does that person get? In worst case, if someone takes goldenrock trademark, does it mean I can not use it even if had a service entity established before his trademark filed? Is there a pre-existing entiry support or first mover advantage in Trademark? I read www.uspto.gov site and know advantages of trademark .. what I don;t know is disadvantages of not having trademark for few months. Thanks

  • Open Question: Can you help me answer this protein questions about PDB? bioinformatics?
The February 17, 2004 release of new structures to the PDB included several structures of the Src kinase SH2 domain co-crystallized with different inhibitors What are the PDB ids for the 27 structures?(Hint: they are consecutive alphanumerically) What other domains can you find in the human Src kinase protein? Please provide a search result from a protein family database search. (Hint: you can but don't have to get the protein sequence at SwissProt through a link on one of the structure's pages at the PDB) The Src family of tyrosine kinases contains 8 closely related sequences. All have entries with human sequences available in SwissProt. Using BLAST at NCBI, find those 8 sequences by using just the kinase domain of Src and report the SwissProt entry names and unique ids. Supply a dendrogram file based on a multiple sequence alignment of these 8 sequences. What are the two groups within the Src family?
