I currently am in the process of switching from 1and1 to hosting my own server from home. I still need my domains I had with 1and1 however.
I am looking for a new domain registrar that provides free private WHOIS, with a price under 10$ a year. I do not want 1and1, because I have had a bad experience with their customer service, and I don't want anything to do with them.
So who would be a good domain registrar? I like GoDaddy and Domain.com but they both charge extra for private WHOIS? Who would you recommend?

I run a website ( www.simleyfootball.org ) and I am trying to switch hosts, but I cannot find any information regarding the domain name. I asked the host and all they tell me is that they do not have anything to do with the registration of the domain. I think maybe someone that ran the site before me might have registered it at another site before signing up with the current host. I need to know how I would go about looking for the past owner of the domain.
I tried e-mailing hostonce but they have not e-mailed me anything back. I think that i need an authorization code or something like that to change it.

I have used Go Daddy for 3-4 years. I use their web page builder, Have a private registration. I own my own domain. And my web site consists of 5 pages. Disk space limit is 50MB. And band with is1GB (I am barely using 23 MB of it)
have 1 email acct.
To renew again for another year and keep everything the same, is about $75 per year ($10 renewal of domain, $9 private registration, $53.88 web site builder & 5 pages)
Anyways, I have a retail store and we are going out of business soon. The website was never set up for eCommerce. All transactions were always done in person at our business.
Money is really tight now but I still want to keep a website with the same .com domain; just like with what I had with Godaddy, BUT maybe only 2-3 pages. And pay maybe only $3 or less a month or even FREE. Does such a thing actually exist.
I dont know a whole lot about this so the simpler the better.

Okay, this is a little long so bare with me.
First of all I'm 15 and I thought it would be a good time register a few "MyName" domains because I'm going to be a successful entrepreneur [don't think I'm obnoxious, I'm just optimistic =D ] and the last thing I want is somebody impersonating me with MyName.com and to not be willing to sell the domain!
And since the internet if of growing use, everybody should probably have a domain in their name.
Anyhow, I just contacted the owner of MySurname.com and they said they wouldn't be prepared to sell, because they want to give it to their children or something. Which was kind of a b*tch because I was hoping for an Email address such as - "MyFisrtName@MySurname.com"
But hey, I guess you can't have it all.
And maybe I'll get it one day anyhow.
But as odd as it may seem, I'd rather have MyFullName.com instead of just MySurname.com because it would be harder for people to find me! And it may look less formal.
So now, there are a few things I wish to know.
1. What is the best/least expensive domain registration provider out there?
Is there any sort of a comparison site or anything?
I'm hoping to buy maybe 10 - 20 domain names.
[MyName.com, MyName.net, MyName.info, etc.]
So if the site has something for bulk registration discounts it would be good.
2. If I want to receive Emails at one of the domains - E.g. Darren@MyDomain.com - do I still have to pay for web hosting if I don't actually want a website, just to receive Emails?
3. If I DO have to pay for just receiving Emails on it, but not having a website; If I use Windows Live Admin Center to receive Emails from it do I still have to pay for web hosting?
I use a lot of Windows Live Services on a daily basis. [Hotmail, MSN Messenger, Windows Live Mail] so I would like to use Admin Center anyway because I love all of Windows Live's features.
4. I'm not sure about redirecting webpages or anything but I've read it has something to do with the DNS Control Panel.
So the question is: If I want to have all-but-one of the domains to redirect to the main webpage; do I have to pay for web-hosting on all of them to access the DNS Control Panel on all of them?
Or can you make webpages redirect without having to pay for web-hosting on them?
As in, does the DNS Control Panel come free with the domain?
5. When you register a domain with the "1 Year" thing written under it, is that a binding contract?
For example, if you sign up for a 1 Year Domain package with provider X, can you transfer the domains to provider Y after a few months if they have a better price plan? Or must you stay with the first one for the full year?
6. If you are reading your Emails through Windows Live Admin Center does the Junk Mail filter still filter your mail for you or must you use a third party program?
I can’t see why I wouldn’t; I just thought I’d throw that in.
7. Are there any countries that won’t let you use their domain extension unless you are a citizen?
8. Can you redirect any domain you own to any webpage?
9. So far I haven‘t found a domain registration provider that you can register ANY extension with, is there such a thing?
I want to register some very uncommon extensions.

A company that registered my domain name says that I cannot transfer my domain to another company, since I haven't paid for registration for the next year. But the existing rates in that company are expensive, so I decided to change the company which controls my domain.
Does anyone know if it is legal for them not to allow me transfer my domain? This company is located in Korea.

At my domain registration company i am able to point the domain to namesservers...
Can i put down multiple different servers in diferent locations so that if a server is too busy or goes down for whatever reason, it will try and locate the next nameserver?... is this how it works?... if not, how can you have a domain point to multiple servers incase one goes down?
