PS, I'm not thumbing anyone down!
  • Open Question: What is the best way to donate a car in Oregon?
I see some third party websites offering to act as a middleman between the charity and myself. Are they legit? How can I check this? Also, I am interested in the quickest way to donate my car. Any suggestion? OK. I actually got the answer myself. There are legitimate middlemen. I called a charity and they referred me to one. As for my current situation, I am going to give it to my local Goodwill since they will deal with me directly.

  • Resolved Question: How do I find a place to buy a "spare" '78 Mercury Zephyr?
I'm constantly hearing and reading about places which want you to donate an old car, and I'd like to find the people who actually take these old cars, so that I can buy a second Mercury Zephyr to mine for spare parts. Whenever I call a charity to ask "who takes the old cars which are donated to you?" they never seem to know! I live in the Denver area, but would be willing to drive a few hundred miles if I could find a "donor" twin for my car.

  • Resolved Question: I need to find someone that can donate a car to a needy family.
I have a niece in the Sacramento area of California and one day on her way to work she was side swiped by a big rig when he had pulled over on top of her. Her car was totaled and she survived with minimal injury. However the car was given its worth and not completely paid off leaving $3000. debt. This family has had a very rough go with job loss, lack of health insurance, and mounting bills, and a small child. They were a one car family and now have none. They have been loaned a car but need to return it in 2 weeks. They have no where to turn because of the excessive bills and other issues. They both work but travel a distance she works in Stockton and he works in Sacramento and the live between the two. All the online car charities are backe up with applications for a car and not accepting anymore until 2009. Is there some one out there that can help?? I am not looking for a loan! I m looking for someone that has a car that maybe they would have traded in or sold but instead would like to get a tax deduction for the GIFT.
  • Resolved Question: What would you do if you won the lottery?
I reading some articles on snoopes about people playing practical jokes on each other with the lottery not realizing that it would show "their true colors". The person that thought won the lottery was their boss and once he found out that he won the lottery he basically said i'm doing my secretary, I hate this company, and I hate all of you! When he figured that it was a joke, he was nowhere to be seen. Anyways, if I won the lottery I would: - Pay off all of my debt - Help my parents with any of their debt - Help my bf pay off his school loan - Buy a house to live in - Buy a couple of houses to flip and sell (invest in houses) - Put some money in a mutual fund or a high earning interest rate account. - Donate money to the ASPCA and a couple of other charities - Travel - Maybe get married (lol) - Maybe become and entreprenuer (open up a bakery/restaurant or a restaurant/ night club) - Then probably purchase materialistic things like a nice SUV, or a car like an Ashton, boat/yacht, a couple of coach purses (not that I need anymore), and all the sweet finishings to put into a big house - I'll open up a college fund for my niece and nephews. - Buy my dad a new car because he needs one. - Have A/C installed into my parents house. - Pay for a patio to be built in their backyard - Purchase a vacation house in Hawaii or somewhere out of state ( I'm CA) I think that should do it for the mean time unless I've spent more that what I've won=) BANANA BLITZ: Your answer made me laugh, great silly idea, lol! What would be even funnier is if you were to wear a gas mask into the elevator and have people look at you like wtf and then lay a big one! And for you people who would choose to "throw away the money or burn it", you've just wasted the money you spent to buy the lottery ticket, how dare you waste money like that!

  • Voting Question: I destruction the only thing that the human species is capable of doling out to the world?
Seriously, stop and think. There are more things that people do to themselves and everything else that ranges between unfriendly and horrific. We're no longer a natural species that seeks to simply spread our genes and survive. We began to become merciless, uncaring, and have reached a state of selfishness and apathy that is almost enough for me to wish that one of the religions are right and the world might be cleansed of humans, for the sake of everything else on it. Now, I can bet almost everyone seeing this will think something along the lines of "I don't actively destroy things, in fact I try and help out, I donate to charities every now and then/recycle/help animals/whatever else you consider a good deed". Fact is, with the way things are, you destroy by doing just about everything. Most people think initialy of cars, or dumping wastes, killing animals for profit, or the like. But even existance for humans involves more destruction, agony and death than you may know. Eating meat, for example, of course causes a demand for animals to be slaughtered. Now I eat meat myself, so I'm just as much to blame as well. But think about it. The methods that they use are often designed for maximum gain, treating animals like simple machines meant to be used until they break. Ever heard of "Kosher" meat? Apparently, it's supposed to be a practice where the animals are raised in a comfortable environment, never hurt intentionally, and left to live for a while. When it comes to kill them, it's meant to be done as peacefully and with as little pain as possible, avoiding scaring the animal. Anyone who has seen a two hour film titled Earthlings(google it if you haven't), know what I'm talking about. I'll be kind enough to spare the details here, and leave you to look for youself, if you feel you can look onto the real face of evil. But that is one example of many. Another animal based example, how about clothing? Once again, I'll reference the same video, or other videos that you can find(such as a youtube video called something along the lines of bloody fur trade in China). Think about leather first. Now, we know leather is made of cattle skin, but what they do to them to obtain it is also horrible, it's a more drawn out method really, rather than keeping an animal confined until they're mercilessly slaughtered, they are often packed in the back of trucks after buying them for virtually nothing off of farmers in less developed areas, often have thier legs brocken from the unloading process, and as usual, are slaughtered eventually. As for fur... I will describe this one explicitly. You have been warned. Take foxes as an example. They are kept trapped in cages thier entire lives. Following this, they are often electrocuted via an anal electric probe, while having them bite metal, then they are skinned, whether alive or dead. To get away from animal cruelty for a moment, how about a touch of exactly how harmful global warming is. Now, one thing I find funny in a sad way is, people think that just because they get freak weather, like snow in april, that there is no such thing. Global warming is a misnomer in a way, because weather is often affected by hot and cold air, wind itself is created from the two forces at work. So naturally, heating up the world will cause strange weather for that reason alone. But for water dwelling creatures, the danger is greater. Most fish, for example, can't handle temperatures many degrees different from what they're adapted to. Putting a fish used to cold water into warm water will usually result in it dying. If the ocean warms by enough degrees, a great deal of sea life will die, and sea life is very important part of the chains that make up the natural world, without it, many land based forms will be harder pressed to survive, causing a chain reaction. It's true that destruction is a normal part of things, yes. But as a species capable of understanding, empathy, and the knowledge to stop ourselves from needless destruction, that is, destruction beyond that needed simply to live, why should we ignore that? Why can't we be like other forms of life? All things die, and eventually all life will be wiped from this world, but let's not try to beat events out of our control to it. Afterall, wouldn't you be happier knowing that a person grew old and died with a fulfilled life, than if you killed them when they were younger, simply because they would die at some point anyway? I'd think most would choose the former. Myself, I'd give everything I have, everything I am, just to see the problems of the world fixed, the problems caused by humanity's ignorant bliss. One can only do so much, when those who have the power don't want to lose it, and don't care about what they do. I'll finish this now, as it's getting awfully long. So, why is this?
  • Resolved Question: Donationing a car to a charity -- the charity can do whatever they want with it, right?
I looked up and called the original owner of a car that I just bought -- and he claims he donated it to a volunteer firehall assuming it would be used for practice -- using the jaws of life, like that. When I told it I bought it off someone, he hit the roof! The firehall could have auctioned it off, or done anything with it they wanted to instead, right? This guy is threatening to contact his lawyer to go after the firehall because they apparently sold it, instead of destroying it for practice, as he was told or was his intention. But a charitable organization can do ANYTHING they want with a donated item, can't they? Thanks! Bad Co. -- I called the original (and only) owner because there is still a lienholder listed on the title - to ask him if he would be kind enough to could send me a copy of the lien release -- It is a 1999 Ford Escort, and the lien is with Ford Motor Credit, and of course it is paid off!! He even said so, in between his swearing at me and threatening the firehall with his lawyer.
  • Resolved Question: What is reasonable to charge for a charity car wash for the humane society per car?
My car wash is in the works. If all goes according to plan, it will be held at a self service bay at a professional car wash that will be donated for the day by the business. Since most likely volunteers will be bringing our supplies from home, I am not expecting more than a simple suds and rinse. How much of a donation can I charge?
  • Voting Question: I feel like my life has no meaning.?
I am 15 years old. I feel like I am just taking up space on this planet. I feel guilty of my family's wealth (we are middle class, so we don't have a lot of wealth but I feel bad for the people in poverty that have nothing) I wish I could give them money but I don't get and allowance and I can't get a job and my parent's can't really afford to donate to charity because we have to pay off our car and vacations and stuff. I just sit in front of the TV and computer and eat and listen to my ipod when there are starving and suffering people all over the world. I wish I had something good to contribute to the world, but I don't think I do. I wish I was smart and could come up with a breakthrough medical treatment to cure diseases, the creativity to connect with people through music or art, or athletic abilities so I could inspire people and be a role model. Or at least I could be a person of good character to influence others but I don't have good character. What do I do???
  • Resolved Question: Can you donate a car to charity?
The car needs a transmission and it won't run utnil that's fixed. Everything else is in good condition and it has less than 100k on it I just need to get the car off of my hands. Will they still take it? Will they come pick it up? How does it work on your taxes as far as a deduction is concerned? Any good charities out there?
  • Resolved Question: Car Impounded and can't afford to get it out.?
Is there anyway I can just donate my car to a charity? my neighbor is an asshole.
  • Voting Question: can I get a tax credit for donating my car, or only a tax deduction?
I want to donate a working pick-up truck to charity. I have heard all about the tax deduction I would be eligible for, but isn't a deduction only helpful if I OWE money on my taxes each year? I always, always get money back... so will donating a car be beneficial for me? Or am I better off just selling the truck?
  • Resolved Question: SA or CA cichlids for 300 gallon tank?
I've been selling some of my toys (cars, a condo, other stuff) and have been keeping some the profit but some has been giving to charity. For example, sold condo I purchased I: lived in before I was married. I rented out since then. I'm giving $17,500 to charity. My first project is a 300 gallon tank for a "environmental studies center". I want to put in SA or CA cichlids like Severum and Blue Arcara, Rainbow Cichlid, maybe Keyhole Cichlid or some others that won't get too aggressive. What would you suggest? Don't say Oscar, Convict, Jack Dempsey, Green Terror, or other rowdy fish. They have to be native to South or Central America. I probably will donate other themed tanks as they are able to accept them and incorporate them into displays. This will be the biggest they get probably. Thanks.
  • Resolved Question: Have you ever felt this way about another brother?
there is this one brother that i know. he has been muslim for two years. i don't mean to talk bad about anyone, but from the moment i met him..he has been really irritating. i think he's real bustfool or arrogant. he's always complaining about other muslims...and talking about how thirsty he is for knowledge. he had the nerve to complain about a muslim driving a mercedes benz...saying it isn't neccessary to have such things and he could've donated the money he spent on his car to a charity. i was thinking like its none of his business what other muslims do or what another muslim does with his money. everytime i see this guy he is always the same....and i find it really irritating. i was with him saturday night and it ruined the rest of my weekend. of course he is one of the one's i mentioned in my previous questions saying that he only wants a wife that wheres hijab. had the nerve to ask me was i thirsty for knowledge and how did i feel about this religion.... Yet again...another brother i have to distance myself away from...i'll just greet him and say goodbye from now on. i'm really finding that hadith that talks about being kind to your brothers a bit difficult to apply to some brothers. two so far. i guess i have to do something to increase my patience, yeah?
  • Voting Question: Can i deduct more than 14 cents per mile when donating to charity?
Currently, the government allows 14 cent per mile when you are donating to a charity. Given fuel prices, can you deduct the additional cost of fuel under other transportation costs? For example, you drive 100 miles for charity. Your car gets 20mpg and fuel is $4/gallon. By the books, your deduction shoudl be $14.00, however your real cost was $20. Can you toss in an extra $6 as misc transpoprtation cost. I need a real answer from someone that knows... not speculation from someone that is not educated in the subject. I don't want an audit based on someone's guess...please.
  • Resolved Question: My 18 year old was caught driving under the influence of alcohol back?
in January. Since then, he was fortunate enough not be charged with a DUI, but due to his other charges and insurance issues, I had not choice but to get rid of his car, (donated it to charity) and now he has a job finally after me getting on his case for 8 months. He recently started working only 0.8 miles from home, walking distance and I have been transporting him. He graduates from HS this month. My goal for him is that he works and saves him money to buy a car and pay for his own insurance policy. • Resolved Question: Charity callers making me feel guilty?
So today some guy from a charity of some sort called me, he wanted donations for the families of polices that got killed in the line of fire. At first i didn't know what he meant by "support" all I heard was something about receiving a decal for a car. I thought he just wanted me to put a sticker on my car to show my support for the officers. So of course i said sure i would. Then all of a sudden he asked for like a 35dollar donation, then when i said i couldn't he asked for a 25, and then 10. Don't get me wrong, i appreciate all the officers out there risking their lives everyday to make it safer for everyone. But right now when everything is rising, its hard to find the extra money to donate. I just felt really guilty afterwards, because he kept asking for something. I was just wondering if this was normal to feel guilty.
  • Resolved Question: What will you do with $1,000,000?
First thing is paying parents debt. Put aside money for college. Buy house. By my own car. then the rest will just go on being spent in important ways. r u going to donate atleast some to charity?
  • Resolved Question: What charity should I donate my car to?
Ok I've given up on my little Honda Civic because it won't start anymore and doesn't have A/C but the frame is still pretty nice and I know someone could really use it for something. The question is, what charity is the best to donate it to? I've seen so many! And is the tax write off the same no matter who you donate your car to? How much is the write-off anyway????
  • Resolved Question: Can you tell me, when you donate a car to a charity, is the tax exemption that you receive ?
the blue book value of the car? All info appreciated. Thanks
  • Voting Question: Is it wrong to want the new 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo?
I'm thinking of a getting a new car and that one is seriously on my mind. I can afford it, but is it wrong for me to want it just case I'm bored with the other ones? or should I want it because I need it. And if charity is a question, I do donate so I'm not constantly wasting my money, this would be a birthday gift for me. *just cause sorry.. It's asking a question, not bragging. I just want some opinions. The Bugatti is def an option
  • Resolved Question: Car donation: no deduction if sold "for parts" by the charity?
We recently donated a car with a private sale FMV of around $1700. The charity (Special Olympics) sent a 3rd-party shop to pick up the car; they gave us a 'provisional' receipt (Form1098) for $500, and told us that they would send us the adjusted one once the car sells. We just found out from them that they have decided to sell the car "for parts", and they claim that this means we cannot deduct any more than the value of $500 already on the temporary 1098 which they gave us when they picked the car up. Is this correct? I have looked at the IRS publication 526, and cannot find any special rules governing value in a "for parts" sale. We are feeling very screwed at this point -- the shop has our car and title, and we're only getting the deduction of $500 (which translates to probably $200 in our pockets). We feel like the car has essentially been stolen from us. Is the only solution here to never donate a car? Anyone else have any similar experience? Advice? Thanks.
  • Resolved Question: why some people think that atheists only love money?
I work in an average job, I'm having a blast living near the sea. I only have a laptop, no tv, no cable, no cell phones, no cars, nothing. laptop, internet, fridge, bed and a couch are the only things I have in my humble apartment. I love to live humble. and I managed to get a credit card, so I can donate for charities online. I see religious people working in big companies, do they love money? but I also see religious people flipping burgers, so I guess it doesnt matters, religious or not, it wont bring you a better job or education.
  • Resolved Question: Car donations?
I want to donate my car but I hear of offers that some charities will give money as well as give me full blue book value of the car. What I mean by money is that some charities will give up to a 1000 dollars to spen on the internet or up to a 1000 for food shopping. Some other companies offer vacations. My problem is that I don't really trust these companies and I am afraid I will have to pay tax on these gifts. Should I be concerned? Is there a good charity that I can donate my car and get full blue book value for my car?
  • Resolved Question: I want to donate my car to charity, whats a worthy cause?
  • Resolved Question: Children Charity Donations?
I have a box full of books for children and would love to donate them to a worthy charity that deals with children in the Croydon area as I have no car and would have to carry the books. Any ideas?
  • Voting Question: Donating a car?
What are the advantages to donating a car to charity?
  • Resolved Question: What do churches do to help the 3rd world countries?
surely, if churches are really so giving, why don't they donate any money to charities that really need it rather than buying their vicars big houses and posh cars? with the profits that churches make, between them they could easily wipe out 3rd world poverty, so why on earth don't they?
  • Resolved Question: Am I being selfish?
There is a car that I have wanted since I was a teenager, And after 4 long years of college and 5 years working I finally have the means to buy this dream car of mine. My parents always encouraged me to save up for it, and now that I can finally buy it, they are giving me a hard time about it saying stuff like "You should donate that money to charity" or that i should save it as an emergency fund (i already have plenty of money stored away for an emergency). What do you think? The car costs around $45,000. A small price to pay to make a childhood dream come true I think. Might be worth noting that i started saving for it in college The 45k has been saved for just the car, I already am making payments on a house, saving for retirement etc.

The example that he cited are based on relationships, yes- whether they be a cousin or a hairdresser. However, the GREAT BIG DIFFERENCE is that when someone goes out of their way to verbally expound the degree of influence that someone has on you as well as when you tout this person as a role model or "mentor" - well now this is VERY dofferent. By doing this, you indeed are connecting yourself to this person in every way since you indicated that their beliefs were used to mentor and foster your own beliefs. When you look up to someone as a mentor or role model, you are believing in the basic principles of theirs. Obama's open statements to th ereverend being his spiritual mentor and best friend makes his beliefs as suspect as the reverend's. In addition, Obama can now denounce all he wants to but how could he be a parishioner for 17 years and listen to these types of statements if as Obama NOW states are "outrageous"? I think that we need to realy questiob Obama's truthfullness or question his judgement. In either case, the country should seriously reconsider any support for such a candidate. It is frightening that Obama's paltform really emphasizes "change" and his real agenda would seem to indicate other. We need to change our support to Senator Clinton and assure her success in November.3/17/2008 9:05:12 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LISANROY wrote:amemended comments of dr kamal roy dt 3,17,2008LISANROY wrote:COMmENTS OF REV DR KAMAL KARNA Karuna ROY A REPUBLICAN CANIDATE AND HoPEFUL TO BE the NOMINEE OF GOP IN SCHEDULED ELECTION FOr NOV 4, 2008, IF BE HELD WITHOUT any COURT ORDER OF INJUNCTION to postpone corrpt election as PRAYED BY DR kamal k k ROY ALLEGING SKY_HIGH AND CLOUD_DARK CORRUPTIONS BY DEFENDANTS IN CIVIL ACTIONS FILED IN 20+ U S D COURT actions in 20+ different JURISDICTIONS with allegations against defendants for negligence to enforce laws not TO PUSH OUT ELECTORAL CONTESTANTS FROM WEAKER COMMUNITIES OF HAVE-nots 3/17/2008 9:04:05 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy rmorris391 wrote:well this is "midly amusing". While the Mainstream Media (MSM) has too much time on its hands, to consider a long winded campaign, the focus has shifted to non-political discourse, about intractable problems that confound american society. We have issues related to baseball players, after all, who alledgedly used illegal substances to puff up their biceps. Certainly, congress can devise a surge campaign to intervene with major league baseball, and save the poor players from the rich players. After all, the economic crisis in MLB is looming, and requires some "foreign ownership equity." This is, afterall the land of "ownership." Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7]Most, if not all, of Roy's complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v. U.S., describes Roy as "no stranger to litigation" and provides a partial list of Roy lawsuits that have been dismissed since 1991.[8]Despite Roy's lack of success in the courts, his lawsuits have been discussed in law school classrooms and in law related blogs.[9] [10]In April 2007 Roy filed a civil rights action against, among others, CBS Broadcasting Inc., MSNBC, the United States Government, and controversial radio shock jock Don Imus.[11]In October, 2007, Roy filed a suit in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, against "Wikipedia Encyclopedia, USA, All News Media, All State Board of Elections, Federal Election Commission". • Resolved Question: If God made me extremely wealthy?
Would it be wrong for me to buy a lot of things? I would DEFINITELY share my money. I would donate to charity, I also have this idea where I'd go to homes that have been burned down by household fires and then just drop $20,000 in the mail box. See? I wouldn't be greedy with my money, BUT, i like toys, and i want to have a basketball court in my house (and a pool, and i want a motorcycle too, also a nice car, and have a wardrobe with my fav tshirts). God said to not store up earthly treasures, but if i get the money why can't i use it to have fun too? (O yea, i also want a shoe collection, AND a nice sound system so i can play guitar really loud.)
  • Resolved Question: Should I donate some money to the villagers?
I recently destroyed the village community centre after an accident involving a homemade car and a catapult. The village do not know that it was me who was responsible for the destruction, but there are now serveral problems. Apparently the children can no longer attend their groups and classes, and the various charity events planned can no longer take place. As the wealthiest and most influential figure in the area, the community has appealed to me to donate some funding to restore the building. Obviously, money is no object and I could probably have the building rebuilt by the end of the month. But should it really be my responsibility to build something I have no interest in?
  • Resolved Question: For fun survey: (SURVEY)?
What kind of car would you buy? Where in the country would you move to? What kind of house would you buy? Would you give your family any money? What charity would you donate to? Would you give your friends any money? Where would you go on vacation? What luxury item would you buy first? Would it change your life? Would you save any of it? Would it change your current relationship? Would you quit your job? Would you ever work again? What one task would you never do again? What dream of yours would you be able to do? Would you change the way you dress? Would you change anything about your body? Would you miss anything about not bring rich? Who would be the first person you tell? Would it bring you happyness? This is if you had a million dollars
  • Voting Question: Car door swap on a Volvo?
My colleague's 1991 740 wagon is DOA. The color: alpine white. I have a 1992 940 wagon. The color: alpine white. My car as a passenger side door with major rust damage. So bad that it'll cost me a fortune to repair. I'm thinking of swapping doors with my colleague's car. He's fine with it, as he is donating the car to charity, and they'll scrap metal it. My questions for you smart guys: How hard is the door swap gonna be? I can turn a wrench but that's about the extent of my car knowledge, esp regarding the electrical connections. I will need to attach my door's interior panel to his door's exterior panel, as mine is black and his is tan. Thanks Mike in Albany
  • Voting Question: getting rid of a car for $$$?
old car, not really the for sale type w/ cosmetics and wear, is basically going out, my question is how would i be able to get rid of it for some compensation. I have heard of selling it to a junk yard(chicago land area), but i how much would that get on average? also i have heard of donating cars to charity, but I didn't know if that meant nicer looking cars, as this is a semi-bad looking 1989 buick. plus i heard its more a tax right off type thing. any answers would be welcome. thanks
  • Voting Question: Does anybody know of public auctions for cars that proceeds go to charity in Southern California?
My car is old but is running well, and before it starts with any problems, I want to donate it in the name of my mom, who passed away, to Catholic Charities, and I hear they go through CARS (Charitable Auto Resources, Inc) based in San Diego California. They process all the paperwork and sell it at public auction, the proceeds going to charity. Then I was thinking, I need an in-betweener car to tide me over until I buy a new one in the fall, and would love to use the other side of this equation and buy a car whose money would go to charity. Does anybody know who CARS uses as public auctioneer? The car would have to be inspected, not as-is, so I have some idea that it would be a reliable ride and not a fixer upper. Does anybody know of such auctions, where its a safe buy and the money goes to charity -- I'm just so suspicious of used car dealers and really need a solid deal.
  • Resolved Question: My car died. It also does not pass smog. If I donate it to charity in California does it have to pass smog?
  • Resolved Question: What are the pros/cons of either donating a car to charity or giving a car as a gift to a family member?
I have recently replaced a car that isn't worth much and I'm considering either gifting it to a family member (either my brother of his son (15 yrs old) or donating a car to charity. I have found on the net a charity that gives a $500 dollar tax write off for a car, can I get a similar write off by gifting the car to a family member? I would really appreciate information with links, thank you so much.
  • Resolved Question: What's my dead car worth?
2000 Hyundai Sonata. Engine is toast. Otherwise in generally good condition... I think I've fixed just about every other possible thing with this car. Do I try to sell for parts/to someone who would consider fixing themselves? Try to use as trade-in on next car? Donate to charity (if it's worth anything to them)? Wreckers? Other ideas? What's my best case scenario on what I might be able to get from it? (Posted here because there is no other method of contact for that user) My location is Welland, ON. If you were serious about the offer and this is doable for you, please contact me by e-mail to discuss further. 2000 Sonata 2.4L 4-cyl. jontensen at hotmail
  • Resolved Question: An Idea I have. Why could not a person with with a little capital?
