  • Open Question: Why does my facial rash disappear on oral antibiotics?
I have been battling for years a facial red rash that was once presumed to be seborrheic dermatitis (but never responded fully to traditional treatments). Recently, I was placed on three different antibiotics in an effort to overcome a nasty ear infection (Zithromicin, Cipro, and Bactrin). While on each of these, I noticed that the rash went away completely...but now that I'm finished with my final antibiotics, it's starting to return. Obviously, this rash is a sign of something systemic...but what? And how do I fight it besides being on antibiotics all the time?

  • Open Question: could i have some type of ear infection?
its the pierced part i'm talking about. i'm always wearing earrings. they are always real gold. my mom always told me thats all my ears would be able to handle. she's that way. i've had this pair in my ears since may or longer then that. right now my right ear is sore to most touch. feels irritated if i touch it enough. mostly rubbing it. and theres a bump next to the hole. i can't tell if my ear is red or anything cause its mostly in back that bothers me. my other ear is fine. could my right ear be infected? if it matters i got them pierced in 2001 and now i'm 19. the reason i don't go without any in is the fear of my holes closing. i only have the one set.

When I was younger 0 - 6 I only had thirty percent of my hearing. I had to have gromets to unblock mucus or snot or something in between my ear drums. I want to know what it could be so it could avoided. Is this a common problem.
  • Open Question: Is there any relation between tinnitus and taking Benicar?
I'm currently taking Benicar HCT. Around late December/early January my doctor put me on Benicar. By mid-February, I had a terrible rushing noise in my ear (pulsates with my heart beat). I had just gotten over the flu, so I thought I just had an ear infection. I finally went to an ENT doctor, and she informed me that I didn't have an ear infection and that I should follow up w/my primary doctor. I had an appt w/him in July, still had tinnitus, and the Benicar wasn't really helping my blood pressure either. So he put me on Benicar HCT. I tried mentioning the problem with my ear, and he blew it off saying that it's probably because of my blood pressure. I just think it's awfully strange that I have these problems w/my ear barely a month after starting Benicar. Could the Benicar be the cause of my ear problem?
  • Open Question: How can I work with what I have, and use makeup and dye to look prettier?
know my teeth aren't that great. I had to take a medicine for ear infections when I was younger, that stained my teeth. I am talking to a dentist now about whitening. • Open Question: My ear infection is KILLING ME!?
Last night I started to have horrible ear pain. I had antibiotics and antibiotic ear drops from a ear infection a few months ago. I called my friends dad who is my doctor to make sure its ok and he told me that its fine, and told me how many drops and all that stuff. It hurts so bad, I took advil to take away the pain but that doesn't help it still kind of hurts. When I eat or talk or even move the wrong way my ear is killing me, also it feels extremely stuffy. The doctor told me to just take the meds for a few days and see how it feels because its not going to get better within mins of taking the meds. How long is this pain going to last and when is it going to stop feeling stuffy?? Is there anything I can do to make the pain go away??
  • Open Question: Ear infection or ruptured eardrum?
I recently had a really bad cold and I heard a pop in my right ear when I blew my nose once. Now it's about a week later and my cold is gone, but I've been slightly dizzy lately and my right ear hurts when I yawn. It's a sharp, stabbing pain. Could it be a ruptured eardrum or an ear infection? I don't have health insurance, so is it necessary to go to the doctor or can I wait it out to see whether it heals? The pain started about 2 days ago and isn't getting worse or better.
  • Open Question: 10 month old and still refuses solids?
My son is 10 month old and he still does not eat solids. I tried first time gerber 1st bananas when he was 4mo. Comparing tht to today's feed it was not very bad. He has had a long history with his feeding behavior despite his small age. He started refusing bottle at 3 months, when he got his first ear infection. We discovered that he feeds when he is half asleep, and we fell into habit of feeding him during sleep. After sometime I had to go back to job and we started seeing a feeding consultant. He taught us how we can just keep bottle in his mouth, let him cry and he will start drinking after a while. Which worked for us, with some twists. Even after 7 months, he cries for a minute before taking the bottle and then he would drink fine. Now challenge is with solids and we again went back to feeding consultant. But somehow as a parent I found it to be "short-cut" approach where I can't feed him and leaning on someone else to do that for me. Now peple who are reading this thread might be thinking that my son has reflux - well he has gone through upper gi endoscopy and pH probe test but thankfully all were negative. GI specialist said he did not have a single episode of reflux in 12 hour period whereas 50 are considered normal. Reason why I am giving all this history is that I again want to persist solids with him daily. I had 2 sessions with feeding consultant, but my son was crying throughout. So I decided to feed him myself and not force food into him. First session was good which was yesterday, he took some food and started crying after 10 minutes and today he was back to his own self where he started crying right in the beginning. I am totally confused and lost. He might have dysphagia, he is healthy otherwise and is gaining weight slowly. He is super duper active and both me and my husband wonder where does he get all this energy from. Any thoughts/ comments/ suggestions from parents like me are welcome. I have read that usually reflux babies would open mouth for eating anything and they have problems afterwards. But my lo does not open his mouth. He shows sooooooo much interest in our food that we feel guilty sometimes. Any thoughts on adding thickit, does it really help in swallowing.

swolen around the ear area. Can anyone also tell me how and why this happens ..
  • Open Question: Why is my 9 mo. old so unwilling to sleep?
Up until about a week or two ago, my 9 month old son went to sleep on his own. I would put him in his crib at naptime and bedtime and he was always really willing to go to sleep. Now, he screams and cries for a good 10+ minutes before he will actually fall asleep, and that's on a good day. Now it may not seem like 10 minutes is long, but he's always up until now been a pretty happy baby. He almost NEVER cried about anything and now, he's such a crab! I just don't understand what I'm doing that has made his entire demeanor change so drastically! I do think that he might be getting his 5th-6th-7th-and 8th teeth in, but does it really take 2+ weeks? None of his other teeth made him this miserable, at least not for more than 3 days tops. FYI:: No Fever, No pulling on the ears.. I don't think he has an ear infection, it just seems like he's being whiney about everything.. if he isn't allowed in the kitchen.. if he can't reach something.. whatever he doesn't want to happen, he gets SO mad about it.. Honestly, I know I must but being a stay at home mom with maybe an hour away from him during the day when DH comes home, I'm getting EXTREMELY frustrated... help???

  • Open Question: Does this sound like an inner ear infection or something else?
I have a border collie pup who is a year old. Due to his breed, he is very physically active and loves to play and run. This past summer we had two alarming instances-after my husband would play frisbee with him for several minutes, he would call him back, and he said the dog would kind of stagger from side to side like he was drunk. My husband immediately took him and cooled him off with some water and it seemed to help. Yesterday after playing frisbee, the dog did it again, and became disoriented for a moment. Again my husband cooled him down with water he was fine. Other than these instances my dog seems to be perfectly healthy. We are taking him to the vet tomorrow. Does anyone have any idea what it might could be? I'm really worried.

  • Open Question: Morning diarrhea, what to do?
PLEASE READ: I'm a 13 years old male. Okay, so I have been suffering from this ever since the middle of june. Sometimes i'm contipated or have diarrhea, but mostly diarrhea. I went to the doctor and he said that it's properly verbal. We didn't do any testing but he asks me TONS of questions. He gave me anitbiotic and it helped..a bit. But during that time I get constipated and normal poops. But then September 4 came and I started having diarrhea in the morning. I'm very concern since I'm just a kid and I have schools everyday. Oh I didn't have diarrhea yesterday which I don't know why. I was really happy AND sad today because when I looked at my stool half of my poop is normal and the end half is diarrhea. So what can I eat, take, etc. Oh, and I took antibiotic for my ear infection in january too.

  • Open Question: Feeling sick after getting an infected blister?
I got a really bad blister on my heel the other day, and i washed it when i got home but my entire foot was aching so bad all night i could barely sleep. The next day, my heel was just as sore, almost that i couldnt walk on it, and there was painful, tender red-ish streaks coming from it and going towards my ankle. I soaked it in salt water to get rid of some of the infection, but the red lines stayed and felt very hot . The next day, today, I`m feeling really sick . I feel feverish, weak and generally not well . But, the thing that I`m wondering is about my throat. My tonsils are absolutely killing me and my lymph nodes in my neck seem to be slightly swollen. I`m having a hard time swallowing and the pain in my throat and ears is very bad. Could the pain in my throat somehow be connected to the infection in my foot ?

  • Open Question: Tingly numb feeeling in head?
My left side of my head feels tingly and numb sometimes. I cant really concentrate. It doesn't really hurt it just feels weird. I just got over a bad cold. And the left ear kinda hurts and feels stiff inside. Is it a sinus infection? Ive been taking a lot of sudafed lately. Maybe too much?
  • Open Question: Why do I keep getting sick?
Ever since around April I’ve had some illness of some kind, always overlapping or developing with my last ailment. First sinusitis, then a chest infection, then mycoplasma pneumonia, then outer ear infection, then inflamed tonsils, which is what I currently have. This has been MONTHS and I am so tired of being ill. I haven’t had a single day of being healthy, I’ve been on antibiotics about 6 times, had to suffer through exam block twice whilst being ill, missed a major biology exam and had pleurisy from constant infection and coughing. I really can't stand it anymore. My diet is healthy (although I do not eat any meat aside from fish, I have good levels of protein and iron), I have never smoked in my life, I don’t drink and I'm not very stressed at all. I’m 167cm tall and 51kg, if this is of any help. Please, is there an underlying cause to my ailments? It’s driving me mad! If you need any more information, just ask! I have been taking immune boosting tablets (to no avail), I'm not stressed (quite the opposite) and my urine is almost always clear. Also, I usually do excercise (at least once a week at school at the VERY least) but when you have only 1/3 of your usual lung-capacity this is rather impossible. I actually had to use an inhaler to help with my breathing. I want to know if this is just a bad stretch for me or if there's an underlying cause. I have been visiting different doctors and clinics because I have been unable to make appointments with my usual one they're always full. This might be why they haven't picked up on it. The only allergies I have are bee stings, and as none of the rest of my family have been sick I can't think of a chance to be in contact with mold spores but I'll bare it in mind.
  • Open Question: I have a weird feeling, whats wrong?
I have been taking a lot sudafed for a few days, cause I think i was getting a sinus infection. Now I feel basically fine just a little weird. Like I can concentrate and I feel a little out of it my head feels a little funny. I've stop taking sudafed now. Do you think that I took too much earlier? Or do i need more? One of my ears kinda feels weird and stiff inside.
  • Open Question: Help!? There is something EXTREMLY STRANGE and wrong with my kittens ear! He has BLUE blisters!?
Hes about four to five months old now and he recently got neuted as well as getting his shots all on the same day. When he came back from the vet he had this black stuff in the shape of a messy circle in one ear. It started cracking off so I just thought the vet did it but now that it is all gone he has blue blisters under where the black stuff was. They definitely weren't there before we sent him to the vet. Can anyone tell what it is ro give me a list of ear infections so I can identify it myself. Here is a woman describing the exact same thing my little one has: http://www.paw-talk.net/forums/f76/blue-blisters-in-ears-36822.html
  • Open Question: Help, I think my baby may be sick?
My son is almost 7 weeks old, he has been really fussy, he hasn't been eating well, he spits up so bad, and he seems to have a lot of snot stuck in his nose, I have tried to use the aspirator but it's not helping. He doesn't have a fever but he sure does feel hot. He also coughs and sneezes a lot too. We went to the doctor today, not his original doctor because they were closed so we had to go to a different one and it was a nurse practitioner. All she said was that all of his symptoms are caused from an ear infection. I just don't understand, he isn't pulling at his ears or anything. What else could be wrong?

He just got over a double ear infection & has severe reflux (is being treated) but the past 7 days, he will only eat when he is asleep. I am literally taking him out of his crib at naptime & getting him 3 times a night to feed him just so he will take enough. He is losing weight. We have been to the DRs' 2 times in the past week & will go again monday. So far, no answers- oh but he does have Thrush. Can this be causing it? He takes about 3 sips, if he is awake, then screams!! (he is fed breastmilk through a bottle). If he is sleepy, he drinks 3-4 ounces. He weighs 13 lbs. anyone been through this? Also, baby is hypertonic (overtight muscles) & couldn't latch on- so I have not been able to BF, but pump & bottle feed. He does not get formula at all.
  • Resolved Question: My cat is ill.......here's the signs and symptoms?
So ever since June my cat has been losing weight. He's lost 4.5 lbs of weight since then. He used to weight 11.5 pounds and now today at the vet's he's 7lbs. The vet's exam revealed jaundiced sclera, gums and inside of his ears are yellow as well. He has an enlarged rib cage and the vet said that when she presses on his rib cage to compress it, it is quite solid when usually the rib cage in cats is quite easy to compress a little like a sponge almost. She also said he's dehydrated and thin thin thin. His heart and lungs are good and so is his stomach area. She heard bowel sounds. His blood work was negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV. It did come back with acutely high liver enzymes and urea. The rest was normal. WBC and neuts are normal. She put him on antibiotics but doesn't look like he's fighting infection without a high White blood cell count does it? I can't afford money wise for much else to be done so she said that she would hydrate him today by giving him some subcutaneous fluid injections and send me home with high calorie wet food I can syringe feed him to get him better. His activity level is normal, he's social and quite feisty. I thought he was eating and drinking, but it's almost impossible to tell when I have 3 other animals eating and drinking from the same bowls. I guess he hasn't been eating and drinking or he wouldn't be skinny and dehydrated. So I am at home now with the antibiotics and the food. What do you think is wrong with him and what else can I do at home to help him get better that maybe the vet didn't tell me. Thanks. Oh, and he's 7 years old....not that old for a cat the vet said. Some really good suggestions down below....thanks everyone!

  • Open Question: Industrial (Ear) Piercing? Kinda scared..?
So, I've been wanting an industrial piercing done like for I think at least 6-9 months. I've asked my father numerous times and he finally said,'I'll think about it", which is most likely a big yes. But now I'm frightened by the horror stories and the risks of getting keloids and all that dandy stuff. I admit to it, I'm not really a responsible person and I think I might slip up and not clean it all the time. (Say if I have to clean it three times a day, I might slip up and only do it once or twice) And this scares me. I don't want to get any type of infection because I don't want my dad yelling and stuff. Should I not get it done if I know I might not take care of it? I really want it but I wouldn't want it if I knew I wasn't going to take care of it. And which, I don't if I am going to take care of it because I don't actually have it... Help? Also, don't ask for my age. Because if I tell you, I might get a,"You're too young!" But.. whatever. I'm the big 13 :)
