  • Open Question: Is there a gift catalog for charity giving where recipients pick what charity to give to?
I heard there was a catalog that you could buy gift certificates to and then give the certificate to someone and they use it in the catalog to get things for charity. For example, you buy a $50 certificate, then the recipient looks through the catalog and selects from among the $50 value "gifts," such as potable water for a village, or school supplies for 10 kids, etc. Sounds like a great idea, but I can't seem to find such a thing.

  • Resolved Question: Bridal gift for special decorating buddy?
A girl friend of mine is dedicating a day to me by doing ALL of the decorating for the reception. She claims we are really only acquaintances.. but she is really getting excited and going all out! I can't afford to give her money, but I would like to do something nice for her. Her boyfriend will also be helping her. I thought about getting her a gift certificate to have her nails done or get a pedicure, thing is, she lives on the far side of town and I don't know any place she would prefer to go... What is a nice simple gift I could get her that she could share with her boyfriend? A fancy bottle of wine and a pretty bottle plug? Any ideas beyond this? I really need to show her how grateful I am. however I honestly can NOT spend more than 20-30$ and it is too late to order or engrave anything.
  • Open Question: What would my mom want for her birthday?
Of course I could just ask her, but that would sort of take the fun out of it. She likes all the regular "woman stuff" like dinnerware, furniture, shoes and such. But I don't know what to get for her 44th birthday. My budget is $150, so I need opinions. She's also trying to lose weight. Do you think I could get her something to help her lose weight and then some other stuff like a $50 gift certificate to Marshall's or something?

  • Open Question: Frisbee Games???????????????????????????????????
I will be doing a work promotion at the beach- I have tons of frisbees to give away and I wanted to incorporate some type of game using the frisbees- something where individuals play the game (maybe try hitting a target or something with the frisbee?) then if they win they can enter a drawing for a few gift certificates. I will also have a raffle everyone can enter, without having to play anything, to win a back pack full of school supplies. I don't exactly know how much room there will be on the beach depending on how many people are down there, so I don't want a game where they have to throw too far and hit anyone or anything, plus I don't want to have to chase frisbees down all day!

  • Open Question: need help getting a tournament sponsored?
I'm going to be running a tournament to help benefit a college club tennis program. We're going to be going around asking businesses for sponsorships over the next few days and was hoping for some general guidelines as far as pricing goes and how to ask. we're working on putting together a letter to all the businesses to make things look official. anyway, heres some info about the tournaments: there will be a singles and doubles tournament on seperate weekends, any sponsors will get their names put on both tournaments. We're expecting about 80 players in the doubles tournament and 40 or so in the singles tournament. Sponsors names/logos will go on the flyers we give out, will be on the online sign up page, and will be on all of the official draws. this is my idea for pricing and I was wanting to know if were asking for too much or too little: for $500 we will put the company's name in the tournament title for $50 we put their logo on everything if they donate gift certificates or merchandise for prizes we just put their name on a list of sponsors (unless they donate alot or something really valuable) so anyway, what all should we put in the letter,? how should we go about asking these businesses for sponsorships? and are we asking for the right amount?

  • Open Question: Have you ever found something rewarding/of great meaning while cleaning?
Let me tell a story. Thank goodness for the nesting instinct. I know, I still have 15w6d until the due date but have been nesting all freakin weekend long, for some odd reason. This past weekend, I've made sure our cupboards and fridge are filled with food, had DH move dressers into different rooms (my dresser into the spare room, the bookcase from DD's room into our room), and I've done LOADS of baby and toddler laundry, folded it and put it away into different rooms. I've also sorted through all hangables and hung them in order of size. I threw out a huge boxful of garbage and recycling. I think I've taken a rest to eat and to sleep at night, and take a half hour break, since it's so hot. Anyway, while going through the spare room, which will be DD's room once the bed we bought her comes in, I found a gift bag with tissue paper. DH was going to just throw out the whole bag, but I figured I'd go through it. Thankfully I did, because, not only did I find my birth certificate that has been missing since April (and that I need next week to change my name on my health card), but I also found an unopened wedding card. Well, I assumed that since it was in a wedding gift bag that it was a wedding card. I opened it, and sure enough, it was a wedding card from my friend and her family. Inside that wedding card (and keep in mind, our wedding was in April of this year, so 4 1/2 months now), was a $50 bill!! I can't believe I didn't even see this card or know of it until today, but it definitely helps. We stuck it right into Isaiah's RESP/circumcision/3D ultrasound fund envelope. Now, we are more than halfway to our goal. It's been such a tiring weekend, but so rewarding. Have you ever found something rewarding or of great meaning to you while cleaning?
  • Resolved Question: Help. Gift ideas for a 2-year old nephew?
My nephew will be 2 years old next week and I need birthday gifts suggestions that are NOT toys or clothes because he already have a closet full of toys and another closet and additional 2 drawers of clothes!! His parents took him to Toys-R-Us and the mall every weekend. And I'll bet he'll get even more toys and clothes from other birthday party guests. I was thinking Snip-Its (kids' haircut franchise) gift certificate. But maybe you have much better ideas. I need something useful and not just some waste of money.

  • Resolved Question: Got a gift from Iraq, is it common?
So I have friend who is deployed. He sent me a very special present that I got today and I want to know if this is something that is commonly done. He bought a flag for me and had it flown on top of the security station roof on July 4th in my honor. To me this is a very big deal, he made me a certificate of appreciation for all my support for him and his company, he is a 1SG, and also wrote up an official looking letter, both of which I framed. He sent me pics showing him raising the flag. I just wanted to know if this is something common or easily done for someone special back at home? Thanks for your help. I do feel very honored and cried tears of joy when I opened the package. It's a very big deal to me no matter how common. I have never expected anything in return for my support of him. Thanks for the info about how to store it. Should it ever be displayed or kept away? Thanks again for the help. Thanks for your words Marine5, it means a lot. A few months ago he and his crew named their MRAP after me and that was huge to me so this was quite humbling and an enormous honor. I am so proud to be able to do what I can to help them.

  • Resolved Question: Gift ideas for my daddy :)?
I'm 19 and have a stable well paying job and live on my own in a different city about an hour away from my parents. EVERY holiday needing a present, I can never come up with something for my dad. I like to spend 75-100 dollars, not TOO much unless its something good, but I don't like to be cheap either. My mom is easy to buy for, as I can always get her some sort of kitchen cookware, country home decorations, or hanging plants. My dad is a little harder to buy for. He doesn't go for things like holdiays or massages. He buys all the toys he wants, like new TV, etc. He plays bass guitar but he's just bought a new one and amp and we already have a full studio to go with it. He has all the clothes and stuff like that he needs. He doesn't really like sports, or movies, or ANYTHING like that. I never know what to get him. I've even suggested a gift certificate for a week of groceries or even just a nice dinner but he's not that type of guy. Does anyone have any good ideas about gifts around the 75 to 100 dollar price range for a 50 year old? He grew up in the 70s..... The gift card thing is a good idea, but i've tried it, and he usually ends up not using them and saying he "forgot" about them so they go to waste. And the only places he really shops are like, places he would buy things for the house, and I don't want it to always be a house/family thing, i want it to be a HIM present. I've even tried taking him out for dinner and he ends up telling me we're not going unless we bring the whole family, oh, and he's paying.

  • Resolved Question: Would this be funny or just plain mean (birthday gift)?
About a month ago, my sister-in-law got arrested for stealing clothes from a store. BUT, she lied to her family about it (because she was ashamed, I guess) and said that she got pulled over for speeding and there was some marijuana in her glovebox (that apparently, her boyfriend left in there and she didn't know it) and that's why she got arrested. Well, some of us know the truth (from her "good" friend) and she still thinks we believe the lie. Well, anyway, her birthday is coming up and my husband said that he was thinking about getting her a gift certificate for the same store she got caught stealing in. She won't be able to use it because she's not allowed back in there any time soon. He thinks it's a great way for teaching her not to lie to him. What do you think? Should he do it? teach: FYI, I would never be in her situation. I don't steal and I don't do drugs. Two things I would never be arrested for. In my opinion, for either reason, it's just stupid and shouldn't have happened. Then, lying about it was even worse. And sorry about the thumbs down everyone. I have fairies that follow me.

  • Resolved Question: New ideas for children participation in the wedding ceremony?
I feel really stupid asking this question, but I'm finally at a loss. I've even been talking to some of my colleagues but to no avail; they haven't come up with anything new, either. So I'm asking for your help. I am performing a ceremony for a couple that wants to include her daughter (9). The daughter is going to be the flower girl & she might hold the rings but they want to do something else. Only I don't know what that something else should be. They don't want to present the daughter with a gift (ring/bracelet/necklace). They don't want to do a family unity candle, nor do they want to do a family sand ceremony or a rose presentation. Step dad doesn't want to repeat a vow to her. They don't want her to do a reading, escort her mother or jump the broom as a family. She doesn't sing or play an instrument, either. I did think that maybe we could do a symbolic certificate signing like the license or the Jewish Ketubah but it's outside & I won't know the set up until I get to the wedding. They have opted to not have a rehearsal. This is my last idea I have to present to the couple. Any ideas? I agree that a rehearsal is needed when children are involved, but as I said they have opted not to. Everyone's ideas are good ones but they want her to be in the actual ceremony, not a greeter or other capacity.

  • Resolved Question: How do I report someone who ripped me off on amazon.com??
Basically I bought something for 75$, paid 25$ for fast shipping. I got it and it didn't work like it should so I contacted him and a couple days later he gave me a return address for a refund. I sent it back and it returned to me because he gave me the wrong address. I had to pay for shipping again and send it back to him. This time he said he never got it and the package was returned to me with the top ripped off and the item missing. The tracking status said that he refused package and sent it back. I bought this off amazon.com and want to report him or get my money back. I paid via a gift certificate btw. I sent him an email a couple weeks ago and he hasn't responded back since.

  • Resolved Question: Are these funny? Star if you like them:)?
    1. A Cat's Diary Day 751: My captors continue to torment me with bizarre dangling objects. They eat lavish meals in my presence while I am forced to subsist on dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of eventual escape -- that, and the satisfaction I get from occasionally ruining some piece of their furniture. I fear I may be going insane. Yesterday, I ate a houseplant. Tomorrow I may eat another. 2. Little Johnny Little Johnny was sitting one day on a dock. Along came a preacher and sat down beside him. Little Johnny had a mason jar full of what looked like water and he was turning it over and over, watching the bubbles float through it. The Preacher asked, "What are you doing with that water?" Little Johnny studied the contents of the jar for a moment, then explained, "Preacher, this here is turpentine. It's the strongest liquid in the world." The preacher replied, "Son, Holy water is the strongest liquid in the world. Did you know if you rub a little Holy water on a pregnant woman's belly, she will pass a baby boy?" Little Johnny thought about this one for a minute, and then remarked, "Nope, this here turpentine is still the strongest because if you rub it on a cat's a**, it can pass a speeding car!" 3. These 4 gents go out to play golf one sunny morning. One is detained in the clubhouse, and the other three are discussing their children while walking to the first tee. "My son Kent," says one, "has made quite a name for himself in the home-building industry. He began as a carpenter, but now owns his own design and construction firm. He's so successful in fact, in the last year he was able to give a good friend a brand new home as a gift." The second man, no to be out done, tells how his son began his career as a car salesman, but now owns a multi-line dealership. "Norm's so successful, in fact, in the last six months he gave his friend two brand new cars as a gift." The third man's son, Greg, has worked his way up through a stock brokerage, and in the last few weeks has given a good friend a large stock portfolio as a gift. As the fourth man arrives at the tee, another tells him that they have been discussing their progeny and asks what line his son is in. "To tell the truth, I'm not very pleased with how my son turned out," he replies. "For 15 years, Chico's been a hairdresser, and I've just recently discovered he's gay. However, on the bright side, he must be good at what he does because his last three boyfriends have given him a brand new house, two cars, and a big pile of stock certificates." 4. The king's daughter Once upon a time there lived a king. The king had a beautiful daughter. But there was a problem. Everything the princess touched would melt. No matter what; metal, wood, plastic -- anything she touched would melt. Because of this, men were afraid of her. Nobody would dare marry her. The king despaired. What could he do to help his daughter? He consulted his wizards and magicians. One wizard told the king, "If your daughter touches one thing that does not melt in her hands, she will be cured." The king was overjoyed. The next day, he held a competition. Any man that could bring his daughter an object that would not melt would marry her and inherit the king's wealth. Three young princes took up the challenge. The first prince brought a very hard alloy of titanium. But alas, once the princess touched it, it melted. The prince went away sadly. The second prince brought a huge diamond, thinking that diamond is the hardest substance in the world and would not melt. But alas, once the princess touched it, it melted. He too was sent away disappointed. The third prince approached. He told the princess, "Put your hand in my pocket and feel what is in there." The princess did as she was told, though she turned red. She held it in her hand. And it did not melt!!! The king was overjoyed. Everybody in the kingdom was overjoyed. And the third prince married the princess and they both lived happily ever after. Question: What was the object in the prince's pants? They were M&M's of course. They melt in your mouth, not in your hand.

Other than the possibility of me getting banned from this site, what can happen if I input fake address & phone number into these offers? Note: I do not worry about the prizes because I have gotten prizes from this site before and it does work, I've gotten about $20 of Ebay certificates in the last week.
  • Resolved Question: Why is Hillary and her campaign, sending me a $ 50 gift cert. I can spend on dinner after I voted Obama?
Just for you to celebrate with that Special Person, after you helped unite the Party! And it is a VISA certificate! And then it goes on and one on how they share exactly the same platform, are they that deperate? Is that legal? Really curious? I am independent by the way! First I have to fill out a form, the one they send me, and mail it and then I get the Visa gift card! I would not vote for Obama for any money, ! Or measly dinner coupons!
  • Resolved Question: Are you an Emotional Shopper ?
from : Simply Thrifty (via email) http://www.simplythrifty.com/ Do Shopping Therapy Without Messing Up Your Budget Posted: 16 Aug 2008 02:59 PM PDT I was talking to someone the other day who told me she doesn’t want to be on a budget if it means she can’t enjoy a bit of retail therapy when she’s stressed. Now, she’s not a completely out of control, spend $5,000 a week type of girl. She just likes to leave the kids with her hubby after a really tough week of being a working mom and go out for an hour or two with the girls or hit a favorite store on a day that has tough emotional memories to deal with. Still, it is enough to blow a tight budget. (And, no, she doesn’t want to deal with problems through counseling or other methods. She says this works for her and she’s not trying to fix it. She’d just like to be able to have her therapy and a budget, too.) My solution? Save those gift cards. For example, I got a $15 gift card the other day from a survey that is good in any store, a $10 gift card for transferring a prescription to Target and a $50 gift certificate for Amazon.com. I will spend the first two now to save a bit on this month’s grocery budget. However, if I indulged in shopping therapy to feel better, I think I’d save the cards until the next time I needed to feel a retail high and use them to pay for my fix. A shopper’s high without the next day spender’s guilt hangover! Another thing to try is to gather all the items that the family doesn’t use anymore and sell them on Craigslist or eBay (or hold a yard sale.) The extra cash could go into a special shopping therapy account, along with refund checks and money from surveys or secret shopping jobs. The final suggestion I offered was shopping for someone else. Offer to get things for a shut in or offer assistance to someone who needs to find the perfect wedding gown. You can shop all day without spending a dime of your own money. The drawback is that you might still feel like you need some retail therapy when you’re done, especially if you’re dealing with an anxious bride! Does anyone else have any tips on how to not blow a budget when you’re an emotional shopper? Tags: emotional shopper, retail therapy, shopping therapy
  • Resolved Question: are we a cute couple? ?
We've dated for about a month. I'm 23 and she is 19. We had our first really romantic date this past weekend. I bought her a a gift basket filled with beauty products, and a certificate to a spa! http://img519.imageshack.us/my.php?image=n28202087300129688257qd0.jpg We have waited to have sex, as I think it will be much more pleasurable if we don't rush it. Any tips for future dates with her?

  • Resolved Question: where can i order gift certificate for my business?
  • Voting Question: What gift should I buy for my sister's baby shower? She's having a girl; please read the details. Thanks!?
I've already gotten her quite a few things, and I have a couple ideas for a last gift but I'm not sure if I should get her anything else (I don't want to get too much, if that's possible! lol), or which idea I should use. Here is what I've already gotten: A swing A robe (for the baby) Diaper rash cream Disposable spoons Heat sensitive spoons A teething feeder Gas drops Bowls Nighttime washcloths Regular washcloths A book And I'm paying for half of her shower My ideas are: - A gift certificate for the baby to have her photos taken - A lot of little things that people forget (the gas drops, nail clippers, Orajel, more diaper rash cream, etc.) - Or, they have a two story house, so I'm thinking of making two baskets that have everyday things in them (bottles, diapers, creams, formula, bibs, etc.) so they can have one upstairs and one downstairs so that she doesn't have to run up and down the stairs all day. Do you think I should get her another gift? If so, which of my ideas do you think would be best? Thank you so much!
  • Resolved Question: A Hollister Gift Certificate for my 13 year old cousin?
I have a cousin turning 14 in 2 weeks. I want to get him a gift certificate to Hollister. I know his parents would never shop there , and we don't have one close. But I want to give him enough to buy a decent outfit. How much should it be for? I like the Hollister brand. I figure my cousin is the perfect age for it, but if not Hollister, where else should I look? I'm interested in something other than A & F.
