  • Open Question: Why can't I get approved for a line of credit anywhere?
Hello, me and my partner combine make about 260k a year, 75k me, he makes about 80k and about 105k from rental properties we have together. But after taxes, health insurance and max out our retirement accounts we have about 10.5k a month. Which isnt as great when u have about 975k (rental properties & home & cars) in debt hanging over your head, but we are young so I try not to concearn my self to much about it. My credit score is in the 810's and his is in 760's (changes +1 or -1 on occasion). We pay all of our bills on time and have no credit card debt. We are looking to get a line of credit in the event anything ever happens and we need the back up. we have about 95k in total savings. We go to the bank, they pull our credit and say yall have excellent credit and you should have no problem getting approved. But then they deny us and tell us we will recieve notification in the mail why we are denied. And when we get the letter it says we have been denied due to an insufficent credit score. Has it gotten so bad now that those with high income and excellent credit cant get lines of credit? Someone help me, we just need this as a back up just in case, not to use actively.
  • Open Question: I have to see a judge soon. I have 6 charges on my driving record and just got in a wreck with another driver?
I have to see a judge soon. I have 6 charges on my driving record and just got in a wreck with another driver? Problem is this; I used to be living in and out of that car. I came up to a brand new intersection and was on my way to a library to check out some books to get me "in the know" of some real estate terms and policies for this new job I just got. The light was red and I was in the turn lane. There was another car in the opposing direction in a normal lane. The light turned green, and as I was making my turn, the other driver stopped in time, I thought he was just an idiot, so I inched forward a bit and froze in panic; another driver in the opposite direction was headed straight for me at a tremendous speed and didnt stop! CRASH! A few moments later, I looked up to find that I was spun completely around, the passenger side of the vehicle was competely caved in and no longer existed, 3 of 4 tires were popped, and the other driver only suffered some front end damage. Long story short, I was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and CAT-scanned...with no medical insurance! I also had no registration on the vehicle, no insurance, and I came to find out that I can no longer have that job due to the fact that my car is completely destroyed. I was bawling my eyes out at the scene of the accident cause I was so damn scared and in disbelief. I also received word that I had 3 previous traffic violations, including 3 more at the accident (No proof of insurance, no Drivers License [Although I had a perfectly valid one. I just didnt have it with me at the time] and failure to yeild) But the damned intersection had no yield sign, I thought it was just a normal turn lane. And that frickin lady was going 65mph in a 35, and had a full 2 seconds of reaction time and she didnt even hit the brakes!! Someone please answer me this, what the hell is gonna happen to me? I'm jobless and car-less. I'm living at my dad's now and I have a court date. What do I tell the judge?? I'm scared to death and so ashamed. I've always been the more alert driver than anyone else I've seen. I have health problems that I can't take care of cause I have NO money and NO insurance, and its been 9 months and I still can't find a job, even though I've been looking EVERYWHERE! I'm no criminal or bum, I'm just having a tough time right now. I used to be just a normal guy with a nice car, great job, and beautiful apartment. Now I'm just "some guy with sh*t for luck." What can I do?
  • Open Question: Did you know the Republicans broke the Congressional record for filibustering legislation in just one year?
Alot of people like to blame the Democrats for getting nothing done in Congress because they have a slim majority. Yet alot of you don't realize the Senate Republicans filibustered (obstructed) a record 62 pieces of legislation in just one year (half the time it took to set the previous record). That's like breaking the single season home run record by the All Star break. Then they go and blame the Democrats for getting nothing done. Very very dirty tactics and bad for the American people. Here are just a few of the bills the Republicans have filibustered: – Ending the disastrous occupation of Iraq. – Providing health insurance to millions more kids. – Empowering Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices. – Taking away handouts to Big Oil so we can invest in renewable energy. – Repealing the effective ban on embryonic stem cell research. – Investing more in health research. – Making it easier for workers to join unions. – Investing more in fighting poverty and training workers. Most Americans are unaware of this and I just thought you'd like to know before blaming Democrats for getting nothing done in Congress. If nothing's been done, it's because the Republicans have prevented it from happening by filibustering legislation AT A RECORD PACE. By the way, the record they broke? That would be the 107th Congress, the last time the Republicans were in the minority. Those of you who don't know what a filibuster is, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filibuster I wonder how many of you out there actually knew this?
  • Open Question: Whats this the economy is not that bad?
Two reports out today! According to USA Today the Census Bureau the number of people without health insurance shrunk in 2007 and incomes rose in 2007. Income inequality even shrank. The number of people in the middle class decreased not because people fell out of the middle class but because people grew out of the middle class. Wow how can that be? Then according to Reuters - Strong exports and consumer spending supported by government stimulus checks drove the U.S. economy up at a solid 3.3 percent annual rate in the second quarter, much faster than first thought. You mean Bush was RIGHT? I am so confused this is what they told us in Denver
  • Open Question: I need a supplemental insurance for Medicare?
On Sept 2007 my son became a Medicare recipient because of disability. He signed up for American Progressive (AP) as the supplemental insurance to cover the 20% that Medicare would not cover. However, to our surprise, it turned out that AP "replaced" Medicare, and it only covers 80% of bills. Not only that, but two months later AP raised the premium from $46 a month to $64. Not only that, but my son needed home therapy and nobody in the area would take AP, so he ended up not having the home therapy that doctors had recommended. We are in the process of switching to a better health plan as supplement to Medicare. Any suggestions out there would be appreciated. HELP!

  • Open Question: Any rounders out there buy their own health insurance? How much would that run for a family of 5?
  • Open Question: How much would a personal health insurance policy cost for a family of 5?
My friend is thinking about quitting his job to play poker for a living. I abolutely don't think it's a good idea because he has three kids, so you don't have to tell me that... Although over the past month of doing that in AC, he is averaging $450/day, and he is smart about how much he risks and an amazing player. Anyway he had a union job with great medical insurance; but if he did this for a living at $450/day... he'd still be making like three times what he did/year. His medical insurance would have to be purchased individually now. I was wondering if anyone knew what that could cost for a family of 5? I'm thinking like 6-10K per year... that sound about right?
  • Open Question: How can I become a claims adjuster without a college degree?
I have worked within the auto insurance industry (entry-level underwriter). I currently work in the health field (collections). I have always had a interest in being a claims adjuster in the auto or health insurance area. My problem is I don't have a degree.I have applied numerous times for claims adjuster trainee positions but never get a call back due to not having a degree. I know people who are claims adjuster with no degree, but most of their training has been on the job. Unfortunately I have not found a company that does this. The companies I see that allows you to apply without a degree require experience in claims adjusting. How can I have experience in something I never done before.
  • Open Question: Will OBAMA stop trial lawyers from destroying our health care community? ?
Constantly, we hear every liberal and socialist leader (as if there is a difference) spouting and ranting about the high cost of health care. Yet, the democratic party and their ideology has created the environment for ambulance chasing trial lawyers to besiege our health care industry. Liberals have caused the USA to be the only country in the world that doesn't follow the "English rule of law", where the loser of the law suit pays the costs and damage to the victorious party. So, trial lawyers advertise to poor people and desperate people to file frivolous law suits and ask for "lottery level" payouts. The trial lawyer takes 30% - 40% of the booty. Guess who pays for this, of course its the consumer. That's why health professionals and groups have excessive charges for malpractice insurance and force people to have needless procedures, tests and operations. Yet the group who complains the most about health care costs and the need to nationalize it are the same people who allow these cretins (trial lawyers) to wage war on the medical and drug community. Liberals always blame corporations- drug companies and insurance companies- who act the way do because of the litigous environment, liberals have forced onto America. No other country in the world has this insane policy but the USA; is it a surprise, only in America are the courts backed up, with tons of frivolous law suits? Will Obama stop these trial lawyers from destroying our society or is his goal to nationalize health care, to move us closer to a completely socialistic society? Mike- There is a reason the USA is by far, the MOST litigous country in the world; we are the only country who allow someone to file a frivolous law suit and walk away when they lose, not compensating the injured party, to pay for their expense defending the law suit. No insurance co, drug co or health worker are perfect, yes they, we, all make mistakes, there needs to be limits on these crazy awards. I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to sue to get compensated for being hurt- BUT we need caps on these crazy jury awards and also follow "English law" to stop the frivolous lawsuits.; do you agree?

  • Open Question: Do JM really believe there are no uninsured Americans?
The man hasnt lost his bearings, he has lost his freaking mind. His answer: Going to the ER equals having health insurance. Texas once again led the nation with the highest percentage of residents without health insurance, a U.S. Census Bureau report showed Tuesday, although the same study also reports a slight dip last year in the percentage without coverage across the nation. ... But the numbers are misleading, said John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, a right-leaning Dallas-based think tank. Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain's health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. (Hospital emergency rooms by law cannot turn away a patient in need of immediate care.) -HP-
  • Open Question: Do you agree with John Goodman and McCain on universal healthcare?
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/stories/DN-Uninsured_27bus.ART.State.Edition2.4dce428.html Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain's health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. "The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American – even illegal aliens – as uninsured. Instead, the bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment should they need care. "So, there you have it. Voila! Problem solved."
  • Open Question: Is John McCain's health care plan to simply no longer call people without insurance "uninsured"?
John Goodman, the president of the National Center for Policy Analysis who helped craft John McCain's health care policy, stated in an interview the following: "So I have a solution. And it will cost not one thin dime. The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American – even illegal aliens – as uninsured. Instead, the bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment should they need care. "So, there you have it. Voila! Problem solved." So, basically everyone can get health care by going to emergency rooms, get billed tens of thousands of dollars, and then declare bankruptcy. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/stories/DN-Uninsured_27bus.ART.State.Edition2.4dce428.html

  • Open Question: Why do people believe that socialism is the same as communism?
And what is so bad about socialized health care? It makes it more affordable for everyone. It also ensures that billions of tax payers' dollars are not wasted every year on people who use the ER because they don't have insurance to see a doctor. And it ensures that people who need health care the most, those with chronic illnesses, cannot be dropped from their coverage. What is so bad about that? Many countries have socialized medicine that is not run by the government. Our healthcare is already subpar, so what we would lose?

  • Open Question: I want to join the navy reserves but my husband doesn't think I should...?
because we have a small child under the age of 5 and he thinks if i join the navy, i will never be home, and this only good for single people. I resigned my full time job to spent more time with my family, we both agreed on this, but after I did, I found myself thinking about our future, we were so used to having two incomes that it seem like we were getting behind in our bills and i have no health insurance or life insurance or dental. I married at a very young age (18), I'm in my 30's now and have no education except my high school diploma. i just feel that if something would ever happen to my husband, i don't think I'd have anything to fall back on. He is a very good man husband and father he does a lot for us he helps me out a lot at home and with our child, so i;m not afraid to join the navy because i know he will take good care of our child. I just think if i join the navy we could take advantage of good benefits for our entire family. At first he was ok with it, but now that is becoming more real he does not think I should join, i know i'll be gone for at least 6 months at first... with boot camp and school, but after that will it really be only a weekend a month and 2 full weeks out of the year? i'm I being selfish? I would really appreciate if i get any answers, opinions or personal experience from women in this kind of situation that have joined the navy reserves. Thank you!

  • Open Question: Working family incomes increased an average of $7,500 under President Clinton. They fell $2000 under bush...?
The statistics from the bush years are equally grim when you look at poverty figures, job creation, gas prices, number of people without health insurance, inflation, government spending, foreclosure rate. Almost all indicators of national health have declined during the bush years. Bush really does represent a tremendous step backwards for America, doesn't he?
  • Open Question: Question about adoption?
My husband and I have been married for 7 years. We have not been fortunate enough to have children yet. I was told it would be difficult for me to become pregnant. We haven't really tried fertility or anything of that nature yet. Our marriage is stable and we own our own home. I think we would make great parents. My sister in law is currently pregnant and is thinking of giving the baby up for adoption, but she is still not 100% sure she wants to do so. Hubby and I have discussed it and think it would be a good thing for us to adopt the baby. My question is how do I go about getting the process started? Any information as far as the legalities of it and where and how to begin would be very much appreciated. I would like to know what paperwork needs to be filled out, or what we need to get, and just how to go about the process all together. Also, if someone could give me some information as far as what we could expect as far as cost is concerned would be appreciated too. Would we be responsible for the hospital bills etc...we have health insurance through our employers but she is on medicaid, I would just like to get all and any information I can about what to expect on everything. Thanks

  • Open Question: How can faith-based groups make sure cancer patients without health insurance finally get some hymnals?
  • Open Question: Why do many republicans think universal health care supports "lazy people who don't work"?
People who are unemployed actually already get free healthcare. So I don't understand the argument that people (esp repubs) make that "i don't want to pay for people who sit on their butts and don't work". The people in a bad situation in this country are people who work but do not get health insurance through their employer or it costs too much but they are not poor enough to qualify for medicaid. "The percentage of people (workers and dependents) with employment-based health insurance has dropped from 70 percent in 1987 to 59 percent in 2006. This is the lowest level of employment-based insurance coverage in more than a decade.4, 5" http://www.nchc.org/facts/coverage.shtml Why do people assume that those who are uninsured are "lazy people who sit around and do nothing"? The fact is the people who don't do anything DO get insured already. I should add that in the state I live in people who are unemployed can get insurance through medicaid. I am not sure what every state's laws are though for those of you who are unemployed and don't get insurance. In my state the income limits are very low for medicaid though so if you are above the limits but still poor and don't get health insurance through your employer, you have no options.
  • Open Question: Uninsured Americans?
Why is it that 37 percent of the uninsured live in households making more than $50,000 a year? I make just under $50K, have a stay-at-home wife, 2 kids, mortgage, car payment and pay $800 a month for health insurance. Why can't they pay for health insurance yet I can? I'm sure most of them have put themselves in so much debt, they would rather pay high interest credit card bills rather than provide health insurance for their family. And they expect the federal government to "help" them. Vote Mccain Even if their employer doesn't offer it or if they are self-employed they should still be able to go out and get it on their own.
  • Open Question: Where can I find good health insurance for a type 2 diabetic?
I am 24 years old and got kicked off my parent's plan a year ago and am now covered by HBCBS of NJ. In my current plan I pay about $200 a month but that does not cover any supplies and only $30 towards doctors visits. I am a freelancer so I don't have a regular paycheck and paying for everything is not easy. I called the company and they informed me that the next level up in care would cost me $500. Is there an alternative that might cover some supply costs?
  • Open Question: How can I find an insurance company that will cover gastric bypass surgery for my mother?
To sum this up as briefly as I can: My mother, in just the last year, has become a medical disaster. A significant health-deteriorating weight gain being the main issue. Prior to that, besides being somewhat overweight, she was healthy as a horse. She developed pneumonia last year and was very sick for several months. She was placed on steroids that sky-rocketed her weight and in the months to follow subsequently developed asthma, hypertension, and now the last straw..diabetes. Her physical last week revealed that she has a polyp in her uterus with post-menopausal bleeding. She also has blood in her stools so she has to have a colonoscopy. Her diabetes is not high enough where she has to be put on meds yet so she will be seeing a diabetic educator to learn how to control with diet and also check her blood sugars. The frustrating part in all of this is that we just lost my dad to cancer 1 1/2 yrs ago, so instead of being on a Group Ins policy, she is now on a Single policy. She weighs >300 lbs at 5'5" and has tried diet and (to her capability), exercise. She is an excellent candidate for a gastric bypass surgery, however this insurance company will not cover her since she is on a Single policy (which baffles me, because they would cover her if she was on their Group). She is a medical wreck....it pisses me off because her insurance will not pay for the surgery, but they will pay for ALL of these medical expenses that are a primary reflection of her weight. Can anyone tell me if there is an insurance company out there that would cover a gastric bypass surgery for my mother (on a single policy)? I don't want to lose another parent. She is only 57 years old.
  • Open Question: Is anyone truly pleased with the current state of health care/insurance?
I dont see how anyone could be happy with the current state of healthcare. In this country many people have jobs, but arent offered affordable health insurance, or even if they are the coverage is minimal at best. If people were wanting to take on a prevention approach to diseases like cancer they would not be able to afford it. For example my friend has a suspicious mole- a few of them actually- and works very hard. But with her coverage and the cost of doctor's visits, lab testing, and MRIs, she would not be able to afford life saving procedures. Why is this acceptable? Why do people assume that people without health care are just lazy and dont want to work or that people are just going to abuse the healthcare system and the "hospitals will be overrun"? Mustagme that's easy for you to say because you have healthcare and have probably never been in a situation where your life is threatened, but you dont have health care to save it. Yo say you dont have to pay anything, but you dont realize that many people do. SO your situation isnt the same as the rest of America. Do you realize that? It is a human right to live. And anyone who wants to abolish abortion and goes to church every Sunday is a hypocrite if they think health care is a privilege. I dont think you guys understand. People's healtcare will not cover life saving treatments, and many people are not receiving and cannot afford treatment for cancer because their health insurance only offers a small amount of coverage. Countries in Europe and Canada are excelling with universal healthcare. They have just as high of life expectancy and the people are just as healthy and prosperous, so why cant we make it so people can get the treatment they need to survive? Candy I see what you are saying, but what if those illegal children and people are very ill or sick? Do we just turn them away?

  • Open Question: Non custodial parent/child visitation question?
My husband and his ex gf are drawing up legal papers regarding custody and visitation. Before any of you go off on child support, he pays child support and provides health insurance. He also covers one half of the balance that insurance does not cover. My question is about the holiday visitation schedule. My husband wants to rotate all holidays. He is willing to take even years for easter, thanksgiving, and either christmas eve or day. That would give his ex Halloween, and Christmas Day on even years, then vise versa on the odd years. She only wants to rotate the Thanksgiving holdiay. She wants their daughter every christmas eve, then christmas day until noon. My husband does not want to agree to this. Is there a law or some guidelines regarding this? If it matters, we live in Ms. She has physical custody, and they have joint legal custody. rrm38...I totally agree with you on this. My husband knows that his daughter's primary residence is with her mother, that's why he is only asking for every other year on the two most important holidays CHristmas and thanksgiving. My husband and I have two children as well that have never gotten to wake up on Christmas morning with their sister and open their gifts. Nor has my husband been able to do that with his daughter for nine years. (She's almost ten years old) He's always went by what her mother wanted, and now after all these years, he's fed up and wants more time with his daughter. I wish they could just work something out, but I do feel that rotating all holidays would be in the child's best interest.
  • Open Question: PruHealth Medical Insurance - What does it mean? - ?
Everyone and his dog seems to be signing up for PruHealth Medical insurance these days in order to get the free gynm membership thats bundled with the deal. However I dont really understand what medical insurance is? For example, if I become ill and use a private healthcare establishment as opposed to an NHS one, I will pay the hospital and then claim the money back through my health insurance? Ideally someone thats used PruHealth before would be the person to talk to!

My sister was inbetween health insurances in her job, and of course, needed emergency gall bladder surgery. The surgeon wanted $4000, they agreed on $2000. She had the surgery, and when she told me the cost, as a Medical Biller I advised her that ins co have fee schedules and would pay between $500 and $900 depending on the co. So now the doc is suing for the $4000. Has anyone had a court experience with a doc suing for pymt?
