  • Open Question: Who made/didn't make God?
I've heard this phrase a million times, from a million different people. My question, who made the universe, was it always here? If it was, then why couldn't God have. Just b/c you can see it, doesn't mean we shouldn't put it to the same test. "In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God" The Bible My real question is: If you believe in the existance of extraterestrial life, you know that math is the universal language by which we must communicate, b/c it means the same thing everywhere. 1+1 will be 2 no matter where you go in the universe or throughout time. This is a universal truth. Perhaps, God is nothing more than the absolute universal truth. "The word was God!" This would be persistant throughout time, even before the big bang! One tiny grain of sand, plus one tiny grain of sand, equals two tiny grains of sand.

  • Open Question: Possible spirtual significance of my NDE?
I had a Near Death Experience. It was preceeded by a something that seemed like a seizure. At least from what my boyfriend tells me.I was feeling a little faint coming home late one night (I am a bit of a fainter-low blood pressure).I had smoked a few cigarettes, but don't normally smoke. I got out of my car and began to feel very light headed.Soon I completely lost my sight.Then- I was having trouble walking, and a great deal of difficulty speaking.I stumbled blindly back toward the car barely able to stand, certain I was soon going to faint. My boyfriend rushed over when he noticed I was on the verge of collapsing.I was only able to say "I can't-" as I could no longer speak. That's the last thing I remember before blacking out. The next thing I remember, was witnessing the most profound nothingness that can be imagined.I should've been terrified. This was the blackest black.Somehow though, I managed to witness it calmly.I think I was also aware somehow that I was not breathing.I next recall being with family members at some kind of reunion.(This part of my recollection is very fuzzy). My memory of the emotions remain clear though.I recall that I had an overwhelming feeling of Love and Euphoria. Also, feelings of excitement and anticipation, because something wonderful was about to happen--The thing I remember clearly is that my sister was there (a kind of host). She and I were together with the others elsewhere.I also know for certain that we were engaged in a very important conversation.I vaguely recall that this scene was flooded by a golden light similar to a sunset, and for some reason- willow trees.Suddenly, I was distracted by my bf calling my name in the distance-and here my memory resumes, as I began to wake up.I was glad to hear his loving voice calling me name, and was very drawn to it.His voice got louder and I was aware that he was rubbing my hair.I was in the most euphoric state of joy and peace though and didn't quite want to wake up yet.I was convinced that he & I were snuggled in my bed!It was absolute bliss.Suddenly his voice was in my ear and I decided to open my eyes - only to discover to my shock that I was laying on the driveway in the rain!I literally jumped in surprise! He looked as though he'd seen a ghost! In fact he was terrified! He was about to call 911 but I was completely unharmed and calm -and announced that I had died as I walked into the house. We got into the house and I noticed that I had urinated.Suffice to say, the experience was not nearly the miracle for him as it was for me.It took him an hour to calm down from the ordeal of seeing me drop into a terrifying fit-making noises with my eyes rolled back in my head! I however, was brimming with excitement, wanting to tell him everything that just happened!According to him I'd been unconscious for 2-3 minutes.I chattered on that I had "died" and had a very important discussion with my sister. He informed me that I could not have had a near-death experience and must simply have had a dream because my sister is alive and well and resides in Edmonton. It didn't matter.I knew the something special had occurred.Unfortunately, I could only recall what I have just recounted. The scene was on the tip of my tongue, yet somehow inaccessible, save for these few details.I was very frustrated. I could not, and still cannot, recall the details of the somehow crystal clear discussion I just know I had with my sister when I was "out". I never told my doctor.I found myself a little dazed for a few days, and my short term memory/math were a little screwy(memory still). How weird is it that a perfectly healthy woman 'drops dead' out of nowhere to walk away like nothing happened?Could I have had a stroke or something? Any doctors reading this, your thoughts (speculative as they may be) are welcome Then things got spooky.A few moths ago while telling this story to a friend, I realized in a thunderstruck moment the most awesome thing. My older sister is indeed alive and well and living in Edmonton. But my oldest sister is dead. She died 4 days after birth in 1969.How did I miss this? That night while having dinner with my bf I said "Remember 6 months ago when I had that weird seizure or whatever, and I told you I died and visited with my sister - and you said it was impossible because my sister is alive?" "So?" He said.. "I forgot that I have an even older sister. She died shortly after birth in '69." He said: "Oh my God I have goosebumps.." and we didn't talk about it further, because the conversation just veered too far from normal. When I think about it, I sometimes get goosebumps too. I was at a movie a couple months later.Midway through there was a scene of flying into a dark rainy sky-I was jolted with deja-vu - and recognized immediately that I had seen something eerily similar the night I collapsed. These had been the only details I've been able to remember until last week.My bf was talking about the memorial tattoo he'd gotten (sorry, con'td)for his Dad, when I was blindsided out of NOWHERE by the startlingly clear memory that his father was a guest at my 'reunion'!Boy was I shaken! I decided to tell him, what else was I supposed to do? Well, that's what happened. Any thoughts?
  • Open Question: Math Question-Polynomials?

  • Open Question: Do I really like him, or just the thought of him?
my guy friend told me that he likes me and I kind of like him too. We talk a lot and he's cool to hang out with. I am not desperate for a boyfriend but I would like one and I'm all up for getting to know him better. The problem is I don't know if I really like him, or if i just like him as a friend but like the feeling of having him as a boyfriend. He's probably going to ask me out next week and I don't know what I'm going to say. Probably yes because I want to see how we would work as a couple and I want to get to know him better in a different than "just friends" way. Another, smaller part of me is telling me no though. What do you think? Another complication, and i feel guilty admitting this but I also like this 10th grader (i'm in 9th) who is kind of the artistic- photographer, guitar player, skater kind of guy...he's more "my type" and I sit next to him in math and talk to him a lot but I don't think I have a shot in H E L L with him, plus he likes this 11th grader. I'm going to be completeyl honest about this, even though I don't want to- I think I like him more than I will admit to because the other guy is more friendly and likes me back, while this guy is out of my league and I wouldn't want to miss out on a good thing for a guy who I don't think will ever be more than a friend. Oh I don't know what to do, I am soooo confused please help!

  • Open Question: Is it possible that our creator ( in his infinite wisdom) has already given us a clean burning replacement?
As a struggling poor scientist, I already know the answer to that question. However, it looks like the rest of the public need to be reeducated right here and now. No, it's not a math, or English quiz that we shall conduct here. For this particular lesson is a lesson in simple one-on-one physics. If you boil water (H2O), it produces a lot of steam and a tiny amount of hydrogen gas too. However, if you electrify water it produces a mix of hydrogen and oxygen gas. Did you know that pure oxygen like its counterpart hydrogen is also highly explosive too, that's why you don't smoke a cigarette when breathing it after some surgery? I watched some News Channel report the other day, and the top story had to do with going back to those smaller Japanese imports. (The Reason) “That good old Fuel economy jazz" After hearing that, I thought to myself; “my God”, has all our God-given intelligence been somehow suppressed too? I mean; it's so simple and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out either. Everybody is now so concerned about the rising cost of fuel, be it; gasoline diesel or jet fuel. Yes, folks we have all become so concerned that were now enslaved by it. Yes so enslaved that many have temporarily postponed those family vacations in the wake of the rising fuel costs. There's even some foolish talk about lowering the speed limit on those expressways to 55 once again. The good Lord only knows how truly upset and outraged I have become as the summer season goes slowly by. I'm sure that you too (unless you're already filthy stinking rich) feel that rage growing inside. (H.2.O)+(ELE)+(TRON)=( CLEAN BURNING FUEL) Spells out (FUEL FREEDOM) for us all soon!!! • Open Question: What is medical school like for someone who wants to be a Psychiatrist?
I know, by reading everything on google searches, that to be a Psychiatrist, one must finish 4 years of college study, then 4 years of medical school, then finally 4 years of residency training for specialized training. For those of you with experience in this journey, or know somebody who went through this, was it extremly hard for somebody with a high level of motivation? I am very bad in mathematics but brilliant in English. Is there a lot of math courses to take during the course of becoming a Psychiatrist?

  • Open Question: I don't know what to study in university, can you offer some guidance?
So I declined my acceptance to university because I did not like the program I was accepted into, this was before the summer. I decided to take the year off to either work or take some extra courses, however I missed the deadline to apply for any new courses in High School and now decided that I am only working. I have the grade 12 English credit, 1 math credit (data management) and all my other credits are random courses that universities don't really care about. I am worried now that even if I do find a program I want to do that I won't have the prereqs to apply :(. I need some advice now, what can I do? What programs offer good salaries and easy employment to their graduates that do not require math or science? I gotta do something, I don't wana be stuck like this forever and year after year not knowing what to do with my life.

  • Open Question: Computer Science or Criminal Justice Major?
-I like computers, but I hate science and decent in math I am decent with history (though dislike it), but I am pretty bad at english too (love reading, hate writing). I heard it pays well (I want to find a career that I can support myself fiancially), but worried about outsourcing. I am insecure about handling the courses. I am worried though that the job will get to boring, and uninteresting. I don't mind sitting at a computer at home, but I have doubts of working on a computer all day without human contact. I also hate business related things. My mom thinks I should do this job. -I love mysteries, though those are all fiction. I don't like seeing blood, and I am not very aggressive or tough. But I head it pays a lot less, but I feel I won't be doing the same think everyday. I have encountered bad cops in the past, and I am not physically active (though I would like to be). But I don't want to work in a small police department (If I could) and I think my intelligence is larger than the average cop. My father thinks I should do this, but my mother and siblings doubt my ability. What should I do? Are there any people who have major (or majoring) in any of these? Can I recieve advice?
  • Open Question: What's going on with MIDNIGHT SUN?
Here---take a look: http://stepheniemeyer.com/index.html So is going to continue writing it? This is so weird. Steph says: "I have a good idea of how the leak happened as there were very few copies of Midnight Sun that left my possession and each was unique. Due to little changes I made to the manuscript at different times, I can tell when each left my possession and to whom it was given. The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to trusted individuals for a good purpose. I have no comment beyond that as I believe that there was no malicious intent with the initial distribution. I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published. I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being. As the author of the Twilight Saga, I control the copyright and it is up to the owner of the copyright to decide when the books should be made public; this is the same for musicians and filmmakers. Just because someone buys a book or movie or song, or gets a download off the Internet, doesn't mean that they own the right to reproduce and distribute it. Unfortunately, with the Internet, it is easy for people to obtain and share items that do not legally belong to them. No matter how this is done, it is still dishonest. This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control" I feel so sorry for her. I bet it's the same person that released Breaking Dawn early. ARGH, She is not going to continue writing. Look what she says: "So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely" I think she might hold it for a while.

  • Open Question: if i am having trouble in a certain class doesnt it make more sense to go to that specific teacher for help?
i got a letter the other day from my homeroom advisor at my high school. from now on at my school if a student is getting a D+ or below in a class the teacher of that specific class contacts the students homeroom advisor and that teacher then contacts the child and the parents. and if you are having trouble in a class you should go to your homeroom advisor and ask them for help. now i may only be 15 but I'm smart enough to know that this system will never work. if I'm having trouble in History why the hell would i go talk to my Science teacher about it. and why would my parents want to talk to my science teacher about the areas i am struggling say for example in Math. wouldn't they want to talk to my Math teacher and develop a plan to get me the help i need in the specific area? in the letter it states "This program is advantageous for you and your child." honestly can someone explain to me what good it does? because in my personal opinion it just gives the teachers less contact with parents and students and pretty much cuts them off from doing their job.
