After visiting a couple of online sites, I am more confused than ever. • Voting Question: How many calories are not enough?
I'm currently dieting & exercising to lose weight. I'm using an online food diary program to keep track of my progress and they tell me I should have 1483 calories a day to lose the amount of weight I want to each week. However, my "meal plan" I've created for myself includes having a slim fast optima meal-to-go shake for breakfast, a lean cuisine frozen entree for lunch and then dinner is less constricted. This totals out to way under 1483 calories per day... since breakfast and lunch alone end up at around 440 calories. Is this unhealthy even though if I were to go on a "slimfast diet" or a "lean cuisine diet" as they recommend I'd be eating only their food products and probably be intaking even less calories? How many calories are not enough? By the way, I do yoga/pilates/step for an average of 6 hours a week.

  • Resolved Question: Good online diet plan?
I want to lose about 20 pounds. I dont expect to see the weight drop off of me real fast. I am a nurse at a nursing home and i work long hours. i dont have time to hit the gym after work and I have a family at home, so I dont want to come home and do crunches or run the treadmill. I cherish my family time. About the only way I can try and get a handle on my weight is to eat healthier. Do you have any ideas on dinner ideas for my family and I. My husband has agreed to do this with me. I am going back to school in January to get a higher degree and I want to drop 20+ pounds by then. I am not extremely overweight. But I would like to look thinner. I am 5'4" and weigh about 155 now. What I would also like is a website that can plan some healthy(and edible) dinner and snack options. I have found many websites that offer good recipes but I dont want to pay a membership fee, I think its just plain dumb. Can anyone help me ??
  • Voting Question: How do I keep losing weight?
Hi guys, quick question about weight loss. I have started a new diet plan, combining calorie reduction with exercise. The way I have been doing it is that I have either eaten 1200 calories a day and then exercised (so that after output, my actual caloric intake was about 700) or else I ate about 1600 calories a day and did more exercise to bring the intake down to 700. I didn't realise that I was doing too much, and since looking it up online I have found that this level probably slowed my metabolism. In the first two weeks, I lost 3lbs a week, but in the third I only lost 1lb. I know now that a 1lb weight loss is ideal, but I'm afraid it might be a sign of my metabolism slowing due to too much calorie restriction, causing slower weight loss. I don't mind losing 1lb a week at all, I'm just afraid that if I increase my calories now, with my newly slower metabolism, I may even gain weight. How can I continue my weight loss without slowing my metabolism?
  • Voting Question: RD jobs? I need some advice?
I am currently in a DTR program at a local community college, pursuing an associates degree in dietetic technology. I plan to transfer to a UMDNJ, an online college program, to get my bachelor's degree and eventually become a registered dietitian. I have a definate interest in nutrition and I want to help people become healthier through diet. However, all I have heard is that RDs don't make that much money. Before taking out student loans to continue with school, I would like to ask anyone working as a dietitian to honestly let me know if its worth it. Where are the best jobs? (I live in the Philadelphia area) How much money is there to be earned? I don't really have any interest in working in a hospital. I would rather work in public health, with the WIC or Headstart programs. My teachers have obviously told me that dietetics is a great field to enter in to. I need an honest answer from someone working as a dietitian. Thanks !

  • Voting Question: Fibroids and Breast Cysts
Hello All, I have uterine fibroids and breast cysts. I am estrogen dominant and began taking steps to repair the damage. I have begun exercising as well as changing my diet free from red meats, dairy and coffee. My doctor and I discussed possible options and since I am fairly young (36), invasive procedures are not beneficial for me since I plan (hope) to have more children and the Fibroids are not yet severely large enough to cause serious damage, however they are uncomfortable. I also don't want to take Hormone Therapy due to side affects and my age. I researched online various sites advising the use of Natural Herbs to reduce and shrink Fibroids, but there are so many I want to know which herbs are BEST or more EFFECTIVE at eliminating Fibroids. I understand that using Natural Herbs it will take abit of a longer time to reduce the Fibroids and I'm ok with that, I just want to "pin-point" the BEST and MOST EFFECTIVE herbs to obtain. I've read the following are good choices: Vitex (Chasteburry) Milk Thistle Lady’s Mantle Dandelion root Flaxseed Please if I've missed anything please let me know or advise the best most effective herb remedy to use. Thanks everyone in advance, greatly appreciate it!

  • Resolved Question: How long can it take to lose your love handles?
I'm a 19, 5'6, 150pound male. I'm pretty fit and muscular, other than the bit of belly fat and love handles I have, but I'm not at all fat or have a "beer gut". Anyway, I've began to change up my diet and start working out a bit more to burn off the little bit of belly fat and love handles. I know it depends on my diet and how much I exercise, so heres just a brief example of what I've began doing. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day, veggies with every meal, less red meat and more fish (tuna/salmon), weight training, and interval cardio 4-5 times a week, usually in the morning. I've done alot of reading online, and I've read some people saying they lost their love handles in 12 weeks, some say they've been working out for 1-2 years and still have them, confusing stories to me but I don't think it would take that long to lose them if you stick to your plan correct? So my question is, approximately how long will it take to lose your love handles with the right diet and exercise/cardio? Also if anyone has some suggestions on other diet or exercise tips, I'd appreciate it. Most of my information is from online sources =P. Thanks in advance.

  • Resolved Question: For anyone who has done both the Abs Diet and WeightWatchers- does the Abs Diet feel like too much food?
I used WW to get down to my goal weight which was relatively easy with their online program. At the end my points allowance felt absurdly low (18) and I was eating unhealthy processed food too frequently because they were low in points. I switched to the Abs diet for maintenance and to start toning up. I've been on it for about 2 weeks but after coming from a very tight WW plan it seems like SO much food and SO much fat. The amount I eat on Abs (and I eat less than they even recommend) is probably equivalent to 45 points/day if not more. Yet I am going by the book... Am I a week away from serious weight gain, or is it just a very different program?
  • Resolved Question: Will natural progesterone help with pregnancy depression?
To start from the beginning I had never had any type of depression until after I had my first baby 2 and a half years ago. Right away I got really bad post partum depression. I tried anti-depressants and hated the side-effects. I saw natural doctors who tried diets and homeopathic remedies and vitamins. Finally I found 'The Hotze Health and Wellness Center' online after a year. They really helped alot. They assesed my thyroid, and hormone levels, especially progesterone (which I was taking days 15-28 of my cycle) since your progesterone drops greatly after giving birth and can sometimes have a hard time picking back up which causes the depression. Anyway--I am pregnant for the second time and I'm feeling a depressed again! I called them right away and they said for the first trimester I should continue my progesterone everyday. I started that up again and it's helped a little but not alot and I'm scared to feel like this through out my whole pregnancy, I'm ready to be excited about this pregnancy even though it wasn't planned. So my real question is " Will these feelings go away" and "I thought during pregnancy progesterone was made in LARGE quantities so why should I have to take this natural progesterone?"
  • Voting Question: My spare tire is a little overfilled!
Ok, I have a little weight to lose (who doesn't?). I am NOT here looking for quick and easy ways to lose the weight. I want to know if anyone has used a diet program and had success with it. I am willing to work hard for as long as it takes to achieve a healthy weight. Please, nobody answer with "a healthy balance of diet and exercise". I need a disciplined plan with guide lines so I don't lose my will power. And, if you are recommending an online program, a free one would be preferable. (I don't have a lot of extra $!) Thanks in advance for everyone's answers. I promise to pick a best answer.

  • Voting Question: With no access to a gym, whats the best total body workout plan for me to use?
I have been doing alot of different excersizes that I have found online, from means health, the abs diet excersizes, trying to stregnthen my core, and so on. I drink whey protein (the cheap stuff you get from wal mart) and have been eating better foods, more fruit, and more protein. I have gained about 5 pounds of what I think would be muscle, however, I see no exterior gains despite having started in late April. I work out every other day, previously at a gym but now just using a few weights I have around my apartment such as my curl bar, a few weights, perfect pushups and ankle weights. Is there anything else I should be doing? Should I watch my diet even more?

  • Resolved Question: Has anyone tried thedailyplate.com? I'm looking for a free online diet plan to replace sparkpeople account...
The customer service from Spark People is awful and their nutritional information is terribly false! For example, they responded to one of my questions with info that had nothing to do with my question and then when I rephrased the question and told them they just said, "refer to the instructions on the ...". About their false nutrition information, I know it is false because I couldn't believe the #'s I saw for a certain Quizno's sub but when I went straight to quiznos.com their information was different across the board: for calories, fat, sodium, etc. They claim all their information is correct because they get it from the USDA. Anyway, I have also heard of calorie-count.com but their site was confusing too because of how they're linked to about.com. Then I read about thedailyplate but the creators of this site work in fields that aren't health -related. I also heard of fitday.com & fatsecret.com. I want to know from people who have used them BEFORE I sign up but they seem ok.
  • Resolved Question: i cant find a diet plan that suits me ?
im 16 years old, 5 ft 6" and i weigh 149 lbs which is only 2lbs below the overweight mark and i would really love to reach 9 st ( about 125 lbs) before i go back to school in spetember (or at least shed a few pounds before then) but i cant find a diet plan that works for me. i cant afford to by speicalised and famcy foods that you read in magazines or on the internet so i need a dietry plan that isnt expensive. i cant afford to join it groups online plus i dont think id follow an online one really. theres no where to go running where i live, and even if i did i think i'd just feel embaressed if someone i new saw me. theres a local swimming pool but ironically i dont like to go because im fat! i love doing aerobics and ive got a set of 3 20 min workout aerobics vids so ive been working on that. i really want to loose weight , its making me really depressed and i just want somthing in my life to be right somthing that i can do and somthing i can control in my life.
  • Resolved Question: I am planning on buying a crested gecko, and I was wondering how much of the meal replacement should be used..
If I were to buy a crested gecko, how much meal replacement powder would I use, and how long would a 4lb bag last me? Also, how often would I feed him? I am planning on starting out with using "T-Rex Sandfire Super Food Crested Gecko Diet MRP Meal Replacement Powder" because it is available at my store, and order a "4 lb (64 oz) Repashy Superfoods Complete Gecko Diets" bag of food. Would a glass tank with a screen top be OK? Do I need more then 1 lzard in a tank and are the geckos very "handable"? I read online that they have feet that stick to surfaces. Do they stick to walls? Finally, is there a good website that has helped anyone raise a crested gecko? All help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
  • Resolved Question: What is a good online nutrition and exercise log for men (or unisex)?
Food and menu analysis are a must. I want something to detail my nutrition each day. The site must be able to at least calculate my calorie usage, consumption, and recommended calorie intake. If the site can offer guidance or workout plans that would be a great bonus, but it's not necessary. Most websites I have found seem to promote dieting and fitness for WOMEN. I am not really interested in setting goals for serious weight loss or 'getting slimmer.' I need something to tell me where I am at and where I need to be with all around good health suggestions. Right now I use the US government's mypyramid.gov which is okay but a little too basic. Any ideas? Thanks.
  • Resolved Question: Has anyone used calorie-counter.com?
I signed up for sparkpeople.com but I have found it to be difficult to use in some ways and its food database is not that extensive. Someone in the site's message board told me about calorie-counter.com and found that not only does it help find calories for food but it actually has plans to follow just like Spark People or other online diet programs. Has anyone signed up for this site? If so, what do you think about it? ONLY SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE! DON'T JUST SAY, "I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT" OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT BECAUSE THAT'S NOT AN ANSWER TO MY QUESTION.

  • Resolved Question: Ok This is Strange.?
Yeh so I've been online tonight researching this diet plan called fat loss for idiots. But it seems to me that on every review I've read so far; (save for 1) people are saying that it does actually work. Even the reviews from different websites where it seems like you're going to get negative feedback, it actaully turns out to be positive. Except for this one review where this woman says it doesn't actually work then she sends you to one of her websites: www.betterofffat.com and the website is under reconstruction and doesn't even seem like it ever existed! So I guess my question is; does this diet actually work, or are ALL these different people from ALL these different website lying? I only want answers from persons who actually know because they themselves have actually tried it-not people's personal opinions! And I already know that a healthy diet and exercise works best, so I don't need any more recommendations about that either. Thanks. Please be honest.

  • Resolved Question: What's the best way to poach 9 eggs together? (Question mistake)?
I have deleted my question about whole eggs because it wasn't what my diet plan stated. I apologize to those who answered my question. The correct question was how to poach lots of eggs at once. I looked online, but it shows how to poach 1 egg. Not all at once. I can poach 1 egg but how do I keep the other egg whites from mixing in with the other eggs? Do I do just 2 at a time? How would I take the poached eggs out? Pour out the water, then start with 2 eggs again? What about vinegar or salt? I read online some use one, some use the other. Thanks again.
  • Resolved Question: My doctor told me to do the "Mediterranean Diet" to lose weight.. Online it only talks about heart benefits
Online, it doesn't say much about losing weight with this diet, but more about heart benefits. Can I assume I'd lose weight on this diet? It seems like a very healthy plan to follow: whole grains, minimal nuts, healthy fats, fish twice a week, no red meat, lots of fruits and veggies and low fat dairy.. pretty simple standard stuff.

  • Resolved Question: So i need to lose about 40-50 lbs for Florida. How long will it take?
I am 15, guy, weigh 220lbs, and i am 6ft 1in tall. So i just found out that i am going to Florida on June 11, 2009 For 1-2 weeks. Then we are going to Gatlinberg Tenn. So i need to lose about 40-50 lbs. Do you think i could do this in 11 months. I know cardio is good but i have exercise enduced asthma and have a hard time running for long times. Walking would be really good for me. I also have a stationary bike, and a pool. I need to find somewhere where you can make your own diet plan online meals and everything. It can't be to expensive at all to sign up and set up some plans. I really want to work hard for this weight loss. It is just not cutting it with me trying to make my own healthy food. I really don't know what is healthy food. So a site would do wonders for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! also how many calories do you have to burn to lose a pound???

  • Resolved Question: Has anyone tried the "Big Breakfast" Diet?
The latest fad seems to be the Big Breakfast Diet. I read an article in our paper about it this week. But it doesn't say which foods are included for any of the meals. And reading the articles online hasn't helped either. When I think of a "Big Breakfast," I think of McDonalds version which has scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and a biscuit. Pancakes are added if you get the Deluxe Big Breakfast. Now, I don't have the money to eat out every day. But is this the gist of the "big breakfast" this diet is talking about? Has anyone here actually tried this diet? And has it worked? Did you plan meals according to their guidelines or adapt them to your specific dietary needs? Serious responders, please. I already know the benefits of eating healthy, eating breakfast, exercising, etc. Just trying to figure this particular diet out and why it seems to be the latest rage.
  • Resolved Question: Extreme weight loss healthy?
Alright guys, I have a loooooot of weight to lose. I'm currently 5'6, 17, and 230lbs. I'd like to be around 150 lbs within the next year. more if I need, but thats just a general goal. I'm going to start by taking certain things out of my diet and i'm going to start using Wii Fit to start working out 30mins a day every day. I've been dieting forever and I just end up getting depressed and starving myself. I was taught really bad eating habbits and exercising habbits and i'm trying really hard to reverse all that. I'm out of high school and will be starting college this fall, but it'll only be 2 days a week so my stress level shouldn't be very high. Does this sound like a good plan to anybody else? Any suggestions? Has anybody else done this significant amount of weight? Online support groups? All information will help! Thanks!
  • Resolved Question: ive really looked into this. Am i right about dieting?
well i figured my bmr online and it is 1,530 calories burned on an average day. I figured i would burn 1,000 on the eliptical which takes about an hour. I also figured i would take in 500 calories. well 1,530+1,000-500= 2,030 calories one pound= 3,500 calories this means i could lose a pound every 1.7days 2030 calories x 7 days/week divided by 3500 calories in a pound equals 4 pounds per week. I did my research. with this plan i figured 4 pounds per week. Does this sound right?
