I have cable internet, a Airport Extreme base station router, and a MacBook. I have trouble with web pages loading very slowly and other speed issues. Is there some kind of Mac system optimizer that will fix any bottlenecks or problems (if there is any) that are causing slow speeds? I know it could be my internet connection is crappy (I think my cable company sold more bandwidth then they had) but I just want to make sure. I reset Safari often and sometimes it seems to help and other times it doesn't so I don't know if that does anything at all. I also often reset my router and modem with similar results. Anyhoo, is there such a program? If not, how can I find out what is causing the speed issues (modem, router or computer)? Thanx!

I have a zone alarm firewall, AVG 8 free, Skype, and MSN all open all the time. other than that I don't have any of the normal parasite RAM programs, so why do I have like so much RAM being used? After installing XP sp 3 my computer seems EXTREMELY sluggish especially if an additional user is logged on (but switched to my account).
Pentium 4 @ 3.4 Ghz 1 Gbye 400 mhz ram
on-board video requires 64 Mbytes main memory
Looking at Task Manager I noticed that if I am running Task Manager and Outlook Express w/no other user logged in:
CPU usage < about 5%
Page Fault usage about 400 Mbytes
Commit Charge about 400 Mbytes
Cache memory about 480 Mbytes
With 1 other user running Task Manager but switched to my user:
CPU usage about 55%
Of this, McciTrayApp.exe for the switched out user takes about 35%
Page Fault usage about 580 Mbytes
Total memory for all processes is about 200 Mbytes
Commit Charge about 600 Mbytes
Cache memory about 510 Mbytes
I suspect disk thrashing but no obvious sounds of disk activity.
System Properties / Performance Options / Advanced / memory usage optimized for "system cache".

I recently had a problem with my internet connection. The broadband is ok, i tried to plug the line with the other computer and it is ok and fast, however with my Vista one, it is unusually slow, Even when i use Firefox and go to Google (easy for loading) it is really slow, take around 45 seconds to finish and the same when you press Refresh??? But the streaming speed is still ok, I can watch You tube, though the loading for coming to the page initially is slow extremely like the other page.
I tried many ways like TCP Optimizer, install the new driver for the LAN Intel connection, reinstall Firefox, disable IP6, and even download the TuneUtilities to speak up the internet and optimize the computer. I dont know why, i try my best but could not solve the problem.
2 days ago, I tried to use TweakVista software, how ever I do not have the restore point, I could not get back the time, do you think that the problem caused by Windows settings?

My desktop is 1-1.5 years old. It was working fine until 3 days ago when there was a Norton Internet Security virus warning (which said the virus was stopped). The warning said the bad website was a museum website that I was looking at. (not porn or video downloads).
Since then, the computer is very slow. Websites used to take 5 seconds to load, now take 5 minutes.
Scanning using Norton Internet Security show nothing. Using Norton Premium Service, which is a phone service which costs $99 and is outsourced to India, was not helpful. They tried to take control of the computer through www.norton.com/link but the .exe file would not fully download. They then tried to optimize the computer by making small adjustments (something like changing the windows time out, shut down, and other items in the system32, microsoft and windows registry files). Upon calling them again, they just said to call the computer manufacturer and the ISP.

I have windows vista and whenever i download something it won't download. it says i am not connected to the internet, but i can browse the internet just fine. i can download on other computers in the house just fine. i have even turned off my firewall and optimized the browser. it also won't download with both internet explorer and firefox. please help!

Playing Oblivion. Just bought oblivion IV and it runs very slow and skips frames. I have to run it on the lowest quality which looks like crap. If I turn off my background applications I think it would run better.

My computer can connect to wireless and LAN networks at my work. I'm wondering if there is any way to optimize my utilization of the networks so that the wireless connection supplements the data transfer of my LAN network connection. In other words, so that I can connect to the internet with both my LAN and wireless connection simultaneously and have access to greater bandwidth. Or does my computer already do that?

Resolved Question: Quad Core CPU Usage Problem - 100%?
So I got a new computer and it has an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHZ) processor. When I got it like 4 or so days ago the usage NEVER went over 40%, like that was the total maximum. Since then I have selected "Select Optimized Defaults" in the BIOS and ever since then it seems to hit 100% all the time. Like just opening Firefox it will go to 100% for a bit. I'm running windows Vista 32 bit with 3GB of RAM. Also when I play Crysis the sound skips, I checked the CPU usage and it was at 100% not budging, I was wondering if the sound problem was caused by this. I entered BIOS and turned all fans up to 100% manually and it has done nothing to the CPU usage, just made a louder noise from the case.
So why is my usage so high?
Do other people with Intel Quad Cores experience this type of usage (a jump to 100% while opening Firefox).
What should I do to fix this problem?
By the way I have 2 9800GTX in SLI.
I need advice please.

Voting Question: my computer keeps freezing, help!?
My computer keeps freezing a lot, unless I optimize it every time I go on, but its so annoying.
I've tried looking up the softwares thats causing it but I can't find it. (I used run and typed in msconfig)
And then I uninstalling a few softwares that can lag your computer, but that didn't really help much.
So does anyone know a good software that can stop my computer from freezing and never have to use it again?
note: please don't say reformat, add more ram or use run and type in msconfig and find the software thats lagging my computer. Thank you

I have two Dell Dimensions. One is new although I bought it used. Both are Pentium 2.4 GH with 1 GB of ram. Now the old one runs fine using XP Pro. However the new one runs slow and lags when your running more than one program. There are no viruses or spyware, hard drive is not full, temporary internet files have all been deleted, virtual memory has been optimized. There are minimal programs running in the background. I run like Word, Dbase, and IE. When you open the Windows Task Manager and watch it, you can see everytime you have a slow down or lag, the meter for the CPU Useage hits 100%. So I can see why it's happening, I just don't know why. It makes it hard to transfer between two windows that I am working on. I dont understand why my other Dell Dimension with practically the same exact resources and configuration and programs running does not lag and this one does?
On the Task Manager it also reads during the incidents Physical Memory Total 1047556 Available 722772 System Cache 594632. I am adding this reading because I am trying to consider if this is a memory issue or other?

I want some software that will manage your systems RAM by moving uneeded programs to the paging file when RAM gets low and I want it to optimize my RAM, kind of like Tune Up Memory Optimizer, only I want it to be completely free. Any good software.
Resolved Question: Why doesn't Microsoft develop and release programs like Registry Mechanic to fix and optimize the computer?
I've just used registry mechanic, even though it is not an updated version the program, it did wonders in terms of optimizing the speed of my computer. Which leaves me to wonder, why on earth does microsoft not release free tools like registry mechanic.
