How do i get a personal loan on bad credit? i just applied a loan for $13,000 to consolidate my credit card debt at citifinanical i have bad credit. so i dont expect a yes from citifinancial. but just wondering if its possible to beg and plead them over the phone and maybe they'll at least reconsider giving me some help? is it worth it? or is it like a NO and thats that, period. regardless of what I say it wont change things? i might kill myself because i just cant take this debt anymore, i am poor and i am broke. and no matter how much I work Im still broke. on top of credit card debt I have 25,000 student loans. I suck at my job and I hate life. I have no friends and no social life. why should I wake up everyday and continue with this
  • Open Question: Can a couple making $62,000/year afford a $155,000 house?
We are getting an offer through the bank for a 30 year fixed Rural Housing Development loan. Our loan officer tells us that there would be no PMI through this loan and it would not require a down payment. We have 2 car payments totalling about $366, student loan payments of about $80, and credit card debt of $15,000. But we have $14,000 in the bank. Plus, from what I've been reading we will get a $7500 credit from the government on this year's tax return (which I understand must be repaid) You think we will be ok with this payment? I calculate it will be about $1100 with propert taxes and hazard insurance.
  • Open Question: I'm 23 and married and want to get pregnant in 6-9 months should I wait?
Like I said I'm 23, my husband is 26. We've been married for almost 2.5 years; we have a nice home (with a mortgage of course). I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in May and my husband just started community college full time, his LPN degree should take 2 years. I have a fulltime very flexible good paying job and my husband has a decent part-time (32 hrs) job that has insanely good benefits, zero deductible insurance, dental, vision, life insurance...etc. So we wouldn't have to pay basically anything for delivery, just $10 Dr. co-pays. We have a good bit of money invested in case of emergencies but currently only save about 1-2% of our income, and have about 30K in debt including one car, credit cards and student loans. However, there is something telling me that we should wait until my husband finishes school, he is just going to school for a backup plan, the job he has now has very good advancement opportunities and he plans to stay there. I have my life together, am happily married but feel like I'm missing something in my life, like a baby. Thanks for your input!

    - CREDIT CARD Loans. - Include Student Loans. - Include Auto Loans. - Include your age as well please. - NO HOME LOANS. I'm 21. I think I owe between 5700-7000. I learned a valuable lesson, and something like this will never happen again. I'm not the only one am I ?!?
  • Open Question: How long for credit report score to catch up with a new income?
I have now got a good job after many years at University. Like most students, I had a overdraft and credit cards to get me through. I have never missed a payment. The thing is, how much time has to go by with my wage going into my bank to improve my credit score? Will I have to pay off smallest debt first then cancel them one by one for improvement?
  • Open Question: Should a girlfriend demand how much her engagement ring should cost? Is price important?
My brothers girlfriend wants a $5000 ring. Shes putting a guilt trip on him since he has two cars - one Mustang and one Cobra. The first car, he bought during school with the money he saved up after years of working at McDonalds in high school, and my father paid the other half. The second car, my brother bought with the money he saved after he finished college, a sort of graduation present for himself. He was a working student and is now a teacher. His girlfriend still has a $40,000 college loan to pay off, in addition to a $20,000 car loan. So basically shes still in debt even though she said she would pay off her loans before they marry. Its been 5 years now. My brother is debt-free since my father paid for his college expenses. As for his girlfriend, I dont think she should have "bought" the new car if she still had the college loans. Im disappointed that she didnt keep her promise to pay off the loans because she may make my brother take on her responsibility. They plan on buying a house and my brother is the only one with good credit. They also want my father to cosign. If the girlfriend still has debt, she shouldnt be buying expensive things, like Gucci bags. But I guess her family raised her with different values. Her fathers lazy, and her brothers are credit card happy. I personally would be happy with any ring my boyfriend finds. My brothers gf isnt like Marge Simpson, who was happy with Homers onion 'ring'. ^_^ Oh, and she makes more than my brother. I think she gets above $40K a year. haha, yeah Andy. My dad thought she was a gold digger too. Only after my brother visited home and looked sad, so asked him what was wrong, and then he told us about the ring fiasco, and all her other demands. Anyway, my brothers a sensitive guy and you can make him feel guilty if you knew which buttons to press. • Open Question: Capital one SOL (Statue of Limitation) and Judgements?
I have an old capital one card I opened in 2004 and sent the last payment in 3-5-09. It was 300 credit limit. Now I owe 1209.00 due to late payments and interest. Can Capital one still place a judgement against me since the SOL is about to run out? Also in Texas does a partial payment restart the SOL? Please helpful answers only. I know I owe the debt but without stable income what can they do I am a college student working part time, no real assets yet.
  • Open Question: Could I and should I sell my townhome?
I have lived in it for one year now. My husband and I are barely making ends meet, and going into credit card debt. We dont use credit cards anymore, but we owe some on them. Im trying to get a job, but I want to work in the real estate feild and this job I found pays a base salary after 90 days. So, thats three months of no income from me...which I already dont make any income. Im a full time student now. Anyway, I live in Tampa, and my townhome was brand new when I moved in. Do you think I can even sell it, and how long do you think it takes to sell? Well, the job is as a mortgage loan officer, so its mostly commission. I might be able to work something out with them to give me at least a little to start off with...who knows?
  • Open Question: How do I get out of a negative home equity situation with EMC Mortgage and 5/3 Bank?
I tried to re-finance my 1st and 2nd mortgage with these two banks and was not successful due to owing more on my mortgages than my house is worth (& high credit card debt of about $25K). My spouse and I have student loans to pay for ($60K) and it is very depressing for us. What can we do to fix this financial and emotional problem. More details..we make over $200K per year but the bills and unexpected situations keep coming up. It is now affecting our marriage and we may be separating because of this financial tornado. we have two kids and a dog to care for also. It is tough but right now we are just maintaining to pay bills from pay check to pay check. How do we attack these issues without killing one another and becoming angry about it when we bring up the subject? Are there any highly seasoned real estate agents or financial gurus (anyone w.knowledge) to help us? Any internet or 800#'s? We need help REALLY bad!!
  • Open Question: How bad are student loan payments going to effect my credit.?
Hey everyone! I just got a new job that will double my salary from last year (in a very stable job field). I've been doing the same work for about 15 months now but been at the new job for about 2. I'm 22 years old and have a few questions about my credit. I'm concerned because i'm looking to get a new car costing roughly 25k. I've been building credit ever since i turned 18(2003) and never had one late payment until 2007. I was 30 days late on a student loan for reasons that don't really matter all that much. However, i was able to purchase a 2004 Nissan that cost me 17.5k. At the time i had that one blemish on my report as well as one credit card $400/$500limit and one $600/$800limit and a personal loan for 5k. At the time i was taking home 20k a year. Now my salary is 51k a year(60k at my 1 year step), but since November 07 i was late 45 days and 30 days on my student loans. This time i was late because i was told by a customer service rep that i was defferred until 2009, turned out not to be true. So being under the assumption that i would not have to pay until 09 i knda ignored the account until Citibank called me telling me i was late on the two payments. I paid them within a week of them telling me and have had no issues on my credit since. Those were March/April when the lates occurred. Now with my new job i have no problem paying for a 25k car with my other bills but i'm worried that i will get a horrible interest rate for a new car. When i bought my Nissan last November i think my score was 625ish. I would like some advice on how those two late payments effect my score. Like what my score may be now compared to what it was in November. Also, much of my credit card debt and personal loan debt will be minimal but not gone. P.S. My goal isn't crazy for an interest rate. 7%-9% would make me happy. Right now I'm at 12.99% with my Nissan.
  • Open Question: Pay the credit card or invest?
I have about $5800, $1400, $100, $40, and $500 spread across 5 credit cards. I have about $2000 in mutual funds, $400 in TD Ameritrade savings, and $1120 in an IRA.. would it be smart to take out $1200 from the Mutual Fund to pay off the smaller amounts just to get rid of them? I dont use these or any credit cards anymore... just once in a while to have activity. It really busts me that I have this debt and im doing everything to pay it off. I just feel like id rather have little savings than so much debt. What do you think I should do?? ... I also make $33,000 a year. (I do have $12,000 in a car loan which i pay every month & $37,000 in student loans which I pay every month as well - these arent the main concerns because i know i will be paying these for the next few years - its basically just the credit card debt I want gone) What is the best way to handle this??
  • Open Question: Is it better to have a small savings and be debt free or take a loan and have a substantial savings account.?
I am a student working towards my degree and has a steady job. I allocate a portion of my income to savings. I am literally debt free (not even owing for my credit card) but, due to the increase in expenses I am forced to dip into my general savings.Someone advised me to take a small loan which would help my finances but I really dont believe in taking loans unless it's absolutely necessary (since I still have some savings). Should I follow the person's advice and take the loan or should I continue the way I am since I know it will be better after I finish my degree.
  • Open Question: How can i make my credit better?
My credit has been established for 4 and a half yrs. I have never missed a payment. But i have alot of debt. Student loans and some credit cards. My debt ratio is too high. Too many inquiries. Problem is I need to buy a home. How can i raise my credit score? How can I get approved for a mortgage. Like i said i pay my bills but my beacon score is SUPER low from inquires.
  • Resolved Question: should i file for bankruptcy?
i have over $13,000 in debt, including medical bills, credit cards, and student loans... my minimum payments each month are averaging just under what i make monthly. i'm barely scraping by and have been forced to move back home to try to catch up on these bills. i was put in the ER quite unexpectedly three months ago, and ever since then, everything has gotten MUCH worse (since nobody was available to pay my bills for me). i'm only 19, and my credit score is pretty much as low as it can go. all of my credit is negative, except for one credit card. soon, more bills will be tacked on, since i still have yet to receive my medical bills from my emergency surgery and 11 day stay in the hospital those three months ago. i'm aware that once you file for bankruptcy, it stays on your credit for 10 years, and it is the most negative credit one can have. but the way i'm looking at it is, at this rate, i will STILL be in the negative ten years from now because my average APR is 30+% and grows more in a month than i pay. one more question: what is the difference (or "what looks better") between chapter 7 and chapter 13? somebody please help. it's 1am and i can't sleep because i can't stop thinking about all of this. well since i'm living with my mom, you'd think she'd be willing to help me out so i can get back on my feet and move back out... but none such luck. she has PERFECT, dazzling credit and therefore, a whole lot to lose. she doesn't make as much money as she seems to... so it would be easy for her to get herself in over her head if she did me any favors. i know that i wouldn't screw her like that, but since it's a possibility (although a very slim one) she will not help me. she's offered to open a 0% credit card for me, but the offer expired when i decided to buy my best friend a $30 birthday present last month. apparently to her that means i was spending my money "frivolously" so she's no longer willing to help. she's ALL about having clean credit. that's how i was raised. i just messed up. now i'm stuck and find myself being buried alive. my student loan is only $600. it isn't a majority of my debt... and compared to the thousands that i'm pouring into my monthly payments, i seriously (still) don't believe that $30 is spending frivolously. especially when it's for my best friend's 21st birthday... you only get one of those once in a lifetime. and i don't usually purchase presents for friends. now, if i was constantly buying crap here and there, it'd be a different story. but i haven't even had a decent meal since my final night in the hospital (and i do have health insurance, but that doesn't mean that 11 days and nights in a hospital ICU, a CT scan, Laparotomy, and ambulance ride are free, although that would be nice)... the majority of my debt is credit card debt... most of the remainder (about $5000) is medical (from having my daughter last year, when her health insurance canceled on us the DAY she was born, and from being misdiagnosed by several doctors, including an urgent care for what i was put in the er for).
  • Resolved Question: How to get a motorcycle loan while rebuilding credit?
ive been rebuilding my credit, ive gone from a 530 to a 640 in the past 9 months, ive paid off all my debt minus student loans, have 2 credit cards (just got a good one last month no annual fee and fixed 7.9 apr) with no balance and i make 50k with only $500 m/rent and $200 m/student loans + expenses (Gas,Cell, etc) . However i got declined, for financing at the honda dealer. My plan as of now is to try to save 1000 - 1500 to put down then try somewhere else. the bike i want is a Honda Shadow Spirit 750. I figured since i just started getting good credit card deals, that my credit was back in atleast fair status. The only reason i can think of i didnt get the loan is my student loans were defered for a long time right out of school and now the debt to credit ratio on the account is at like 101% because intrest still compiles on defered loans. Two questions, 1. Why did i not get the loan? (Ration or Score?) and 2. Whats the best plan for getting the loan soon? (Id rather not wait if i dont have to, i know i can have like 60-75% down by spring, but would prefer not to wait as i have plenty of extra money these days).
  • Open Question: We need some sound advice on how to manage our money on a low income, while being steeped in debt.?
Long story short: we have some major debt b/c of stupid decisions. Credit cards - around $40k, student loans haven't kicked in yet since my husband is still a student. We have one car note, pay insurance, groceries, rent, electric, gas, etc ... all the basic needs. We also pay tithing (10%) to church. We don't spend frivolously (anymore, that is) and still have to pinch pennies. We make around 30k, TOGETHER. We are struggling to make our credit card payments and maintain our basic living expenses. The deal is, we don't want to NOT pay our bills. We made them and we are more than willing to pay them back. However, our credit is now destroyed and we can't even get a house if we wanted to b/c of that, plus my husband is finishing his degree and we make pennies! We need some help. Can anyone please offer some wise, been-there-done-that-advice? Thanks and God bless.
  • Voting Question: Is it better to get a car loan or charge a car?
I am looking to buy a car, and as of now I have no debt. I am a college student and I have no credit because I pay my bills without a credit card or student loan. However because of this I have no credit. I am saving but I need a car ASAP. My goal is to have the car paid off by the time I graduate in 2010. My question is would it be easier to pay off a 5000 car loan or 5000 on a credit card, because the interest equals out to about the same. My parents will not cosign for me because they want me to be independent on my own which I have been up until this point. Please no negative comments.
  • Resolved Question: I am 20 and my credit score is 635. Is that horrible?
I have a few things on my credit cards. Basically the stuff that I got was essential because I don't have any help from home. I think I only have 1900 in debt. I don't understand why my credit is so low. Is it because of my student loans?
  • Resolved Question: Debt Collection Practice and Laws?
I have been paying $500/month to a law firm who bought my credit card debt. Because I am a grad student who earns a very modest income as a teaching assistant, I did/do not have any income between late May and late August; therefore, I had to miss my payments in June and July. I have offered to pay the lawfirm $1500 in late august when I receive my student loan to make up for the missed payments and get back on schedule (1500 for the months of June, July, and August). I have not heard anything from them (I emailed, wrote a letter and left messages). Instead, the lawfirm somehow got court approval to take $400 of the $500 I had in my bank account (so now I have to worry about how I will pay my rent tomorrow!).... My question is- can they also take my student loan money when it dispersed next week? Can they seize my car? I live in Arizona right now and havent been able to figure out the AZ law on this- I need my car to get to school/work! Also, any advise about what I should do and what my rights are is much appreciated! I really just want to get back on my $500 month payment schedule and get this thing taken care of asap. Thanks! Sophist- I did not sell my debt to a lawfirm. I couldnt make a few credit card payments no pay the money the redit card company wanted to settle on-- I was in the hospital, so the credit card company sold my debt to a lawfirm.
  • Voting Question: I have about $12,000 in unpaid debts most of which are nearly 10 years old....?
Now I am in college and can't pay anything back. I also have $50,000 in college loans that are not defaulted but will cost me about $400 - $500 later when I get a job as a CPA. I'm thinking that I might just not pay any of the $12,000 (credit cards), because it will put me in to much of a financial crunch for decades along with my student loans. I don't feel guilty about not paying back credit card companies. Can I get my credit score up in other ways even if I don't pay the $12,000. Such as: paying the student loans every month. getting another loan or credit card and faithfully paying it back, not getting any more bad debt. Will the bad debt eventually not show on my credit report, after all its already been 9 years? But they have reported it again more recently. I am a completely different person than when I incurred this debt. Back then I was a drug addict and in trouble with the law. I used the credit cards to pay lawyers and court costs. I knew I couldn't pay it back, but my other alternative was to go to jail. Now I am clean and sober. I have no income now but I will be a CPA and I do understand the subject matter of accounting. Sure I owe the credit cards, but I don't care, they are rich beyond imagination and controll peoples lives with no regard for the people they deal with. Thats just my opinion.
  • Resolved Question: Civil Court case for credit card debt?
I have a credit card that I have defaulted on about 4 years ago (that is not past the statute of limitations in my state). I received a summons from the magistrates office because I am being sued for this. It was originally in the amount of $1000 through Providian, which was bought by Washington Mutual, which sold the debt to Arrow Financial and sent it on to Mann Bracken to sue me over it, the debt is now almost $2500. Now I am not disputing that it is my debt, but Mann Bracken wants the full amount up front in order to settle this the very best they will do is 6 payments of over $400. I cannot afford this. I am a single mother of 2 (one of which is a special needs child), I am unemployed and go to school full time. I am living off students loans until I get back on my feet. I have filed an answer with the court and have a court date in September but I am scared and need to know what if anything I can do to help myself out of this situation. I have tried to find a lawyer to take the case pro bono but none will.
  • Resolved Question: Bankruptcy Fraud????
I am considering going into bankruptcy. i am 25yrs old and have $20,00 in student loans, $10,000 in credit cards, and i still owe $10,000 on my car. So, I'm $40,000 in debt. Can I take all my empty and unused credit cards to pay off my car and some of my student loans so i can go bankrupt on that debt, too?? Does that count as bankruptcy fraud??? my husband passed away and i lost his income and i lost both of my jobs.. im Really stuck right now, but if i can only go bankrupt on my $10,000 credit card debt, i don't think it is worth it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! what if i don't have Any of that? all i have is my car that im still paying on... other than that, im living with people, so i own nothing, and i, nor my husband, have life insurance or anything..
  • Voting Question: Is it possible to consolidate credit card debt into a student loan?
In addition to my student loans, I also racked up some credit card debt while in school. I know its probably a long shot, but can you place that in when you consolidate? Just wondering. Thanks
  • Resolved Question: Is there any benefit to have a high credit card limit?
I'm a college student; I have one fo the Citi Mastercard student cards, I find it quite rediculous that as a 20 year old college student with no job I have a credit line of $9600...no wonder our economy is in so much trouble of somone in my position can borrow that much money. I've never had more than about $400 on the card, I'm not stupid enough to get caught up in that racket, I just want to see how high the limit will go. Anyway, my question is, is there any benefit to having a high credit card limit as far as building a credit history? I've had the card for a couple of years now, in another year or so I'll be looking to buy a car so I'm looking at what I can do to build credit. I dont have any debt at this point, I think I'll take out a small student loan in January, maybe around $4K and pay it off gradually. Anything else I can do to build credit?
  • Resolved Question: Balance Transfer Credit Cards for Fair/Poor Credit....
I have about 3,000 in debt from credit cards and medical bills and and each card has a high APR and interest rates. I've been ha ving trouble making on time payments. I was thinking about transferring all the debt into one card so I can make one large monthly payment without so much interest. Is this a good idea. What is a good card or company to go with or should I talk to those debt consolidation people. I had my time of plastic crazy and want to get my credit rating back to were it was. I also have student loans to apply for soon and was going to start paying the interest on those right away to save money in the long run. What should I do? Thanks so much! I work full time for a huge global company and live on my own and am 19 am starting school soon. So of course money is going to be tight.
  • Voting Question: Do you think financial problems makes a sorry person out of someone?
So... I have lots of debts, pay cuts, delayed paychecks, maxed credit cards, late bills, and student costs... I went to the post office one night after work to drop something off, then I noticed that someone had placed some sort of credit card bill or something on the counter as a miss-delivery... I totally opened it up hoping to find something - then I was like WTF are you doing man?! thats who I am when no one is watching... its like I can't think about anything but solving my problem... I didn't find anything useful... but I don't know what I would have done if I did?
  • Resolved Question: Please help. College student needs financial advice.
I have made very bad financial decisions in my past and now seeing the consequences. I have about $3,000 in debt that is adding up and when I was unemployed it affected my credit greatly. Also, my grandmother told me I could make minimum payments on credit cards I used up to the limits. Now, since I was unemployed they exceeded their limits. I have one more year left in school and I wanted to sit out this semester and pay those credit cards off and see about having them taken off my credit report because its a big hassle worrying about them and trying to study. My major is Finance, and this has already negatively impacted me. So, me and my grandmother have a disagreement. I want to pay them off ASAP so I could have the year to at least have my score improved. She wants me to finish school and worry about the cards later! I really don't need this situation affecting my job search in a Financial field later on. Please help! most of my accounts have been closed even though they are paid off, and its sitting on my credit report. I know I can ask creditors to put an explanation by these if they cannot be deleted.
  • Voting Question: How long will it take for my credit score to improve?
I have a substantial amount of debt, including credit cards and student loans. I am taking a year off from school, and the money I make at my job will be extra money for me and my husband. We're planning to use that money to pay off half of my debt before I go back to school to get my Master's and trade in my crummy car on a decent one. How long will it take before I will see improvement on my credit score?
  • Resolved Question: I lent my ex money with a signed loan agreement. How do I get the money back?
After splitting up my ex needed money to help finish his studies and find new accommodation. We drew up a loan agreement which stated that I could recall the loan at my request. We both signed it. He continued to borrow multiple amounts, each were listed on the agreement and signed by him to say he received it. He was then a student with no income. He now has a full time job earning about £30,000 p/a and has been paying off other credit card debts and loans via a debt charity. These debts will soon be written off. Is there any way I can begin to get some of the money back, even in small installments? Please any advice would be great.
  • Resolved Question: Is it possible to consolidate $50k in debt?
Im 22 young and got caught up in debt. My credit is good tho as my bills are always paid on time. Problem is I have around $19k in student college loans and around $10k in credit card debt. Plus i owe $17k on my truck. I need to buy a a house. Is it possible to find something with alot of equity so that i can consolidate all of the above debts into the mortgage?
  • Resolved Question: How can I catch up on my bills and get out of debt?
I'm a 24 year old college graduate. I had some rough patches with work this year. Got a new job in January, then took what I thought would be a better job, totally got screwed over, my previous job took me back part-time. I finally got a full-time position and a promotion with a raise after my 3-month evaluation period is up. I've already filed for forbearance on some of my student loans, but I'm supposed to start paying those back soon. I have about $2,000 or so in credit cards which happened to be maxed out. Most of the charges on those were to help me pay bills, not on toys. My car payment is a month behind. My cell phone bill is a couple of months behind. Car insurance has just taken my bank account negative. I've tried cutting out all the expenses I can. Every week I'm selling stuff on craigslist to help me with money. I'm running out of stuff to sell... I don't know what to do... I want to try to get out of debt and back on track. I can't cut anything else out unless I want to not eat or not put gas in my car which I need to get to work. My job is about as good as they come in this area (which unfortunately isn't very much). I'm trying to save up so I can move to a bigger city and make more money, but I'll never save up any money at this rate. My parents are in no financial situation to help me out either. I feel like I'm going to be a poor pathetic person for the rest of my life. I make slightly too much money to get any help from the government as well... Any suggestions on how I can get my bills under control and start getting out of the red and into the black?
  • Voting Question: Looking for some advice here.
I'm a little lost here. I'm 36 SWM and just feel like crap all the time. I used to exercise all the time, but don't any longer and now I'm about 6' 195 lbs. This isn't my only concern, there's a lot of things that bother me. I only owe 47K on my house. I still need to do a lot of things to finish it. It will be worth about 225K when its done. I say another 20K into it and it's done. The trouble is that I owe 14K on a credit card and just don't seem to be getting the things I want in life. I was a Pharmacy major in college, but put Pharm School off because it's only full time plus some of my classes are a bit old and they may make me retake them. My job is not bad, but it's not what I want to be doing for the rest of my life. This is what I'm thinking of doing. I want a new little black convertible, I want my teeth fixed. I'm talking 10-15K in veeners, I want my house finished, I want to get back in shape and I'm thinking of going back to school and getting a masters in computer science. Something I enjoy also. The thing of it is, is that I don't want to pile up a bigger debt. I was thinking of finishing my house and renting some rooms to students. This would get me around 750 - 800 a month extra. All in all, I'm just lost and feel like crap. Should I refinance my home for 100K and get everything I want of just hold off and wait the years out until I can get the money? Should I rent rooms? Should I go back to college? I make like 47K right now, but at this point everything extra is going towards bills or fixing my house. I was locked up 6 months in prison for a second DUI and seem to be spiraling since then. But when I was sitting in that 6 x 9 I told myself that possesions didn't matter and I would just take chances and live how I want to. I would take a loan out, finish my house, fix my teeth, by the car I wanted and go back to school. However, once I got out, and find myself doing the same thing as always. Spending little attention to what I want and focusing more on making sure everything is paid and creating a debt free future for myself when I reach about 50. Who knows I could die at 50 no one knows. So anyhow, should I just say screw it and get the things I really want or should I continue work towards a debt free 50?
  • Resolved Question: What can I do to rebuild my demolished credit?
Im 21 and once I turned 18 I really set out to establish good credit, something that my parent have never been able to do. And I did, I had way better credit than most my age, but then a lot of bad things happened in life and I buried myself in debt with credit cards to avoid dealing with the situations. So now I am in debt counselling where they talked down most of my debt and now I just pay $200 a month for what should be a year and a half more. I have two student loans and my cell phone that reports reularly that I pay on time. In the meantime, what else can I do to restore my credit? I went online and checked out my credit and disputed a couple of things that were on there. Thanks for everyone's help!
  • Resolved Question: Would it be better if I went bankrupt instead of trying to pay off my huge debt? I posted this in Finance, too
I am in over my head in debt. Every month I have to "borrow" at least $400 extra dollars just to pay my bills. My husband and I recently separated. He left me to take care of all the bills. Currently I am a 4th grade teacher and make about $39,000 a year. Every debt is in my name (including a car that I got in my name for him, that he now refuses to pay for because someone else put another car in their name for him--his sister). He didn't have a job at the time, so most of the major stuff that we have gotten was in my name when we got married. I am probably about $15,000 in debt with credit cards; $13,000 in student loans; $3000 in personal loans; $15,000 in car payments (2 cars--1 is almost paid for). I have no extra income other than the child support ($215 a month for 2 small babies that I raise alone). I use the child support on them instead of on me or bills because that is what it is for. Am I an idiot for trying to pay all these bills off monthly and have no money extra to buy groceries and gas???Should I just file bankruptcy? That is all you get in MS for 2 kids based on his income and he has a pretty decent factory job (around here that is the best you'll get with no degree). I don't own a home. I rent. Yes he ran up the cards by refusing to give me money to pay the bills, so I had to use the cards.

I would love to open up my own family daycare but don't know how to do it. I only want to keep 5-6 kids so that I won't have to hire anyone and so that I can keep afloat. I used those credit cards to pay bills and buy groceries and necessities because he would always cry "I'm broke!" and had a very good paying job. He never wanted to give money He told me I had to ask for it. Yes I have two cars. No one will buy the new one ( a malibu maxx) because I am upside down in it and I want to keep the older one because it is a Camry and I will have paid it off in May of next year. I live in Mississippi so that is all you get for two kids.
  • Voting Question: I'm sad and I'm pregnant?
My husband and I are young, he's 22 while I"m 21. My husband just lost his job 3 weeks ago. We are currently in a finanical debt. My husband has a car loan, motocycle loan and other credit cards. The debts add up around 10k to 14k. I don't know why he has so much loans. I didn't know about this when I got married to him. We have been married since June 16, 2007. My husband hasn't found a job for the past 3 weeks. He been doing nothing but sit his ass on the chair and play online games. I'm pretty sure he is addict to this online game, called "Solider fronts." One day when I unstall the game, I got yelled at and we got into a big arguement. But he didn't listen to me, instead he go and re-install that game! Gosh, I hate the fact that he is playing that stupid game and talking to his online friends. His online friends are the worst! They always asked him to play with them. Our relationship has turn into a rocky and sour relationship.. We got married when I was 20. I was young and naive. Sometimes, I feel like I want to divorce him and go back home to my parent's house. I don't know what to do. My husband is being stubborn and immature. I'm 3 months pregnant, just found out by the doctor last week. This will be my first child. I don't feel happy about this pregnancy, because I'm full time college student and I'm working on my internship. I'll be graduating next year on March. I'm just stressing out. My husband doesn't even care about me. If he does care about me, he should have look for a job 3 weeks ago! I tried talking to him in a calm way, but instead he just told me to shut up. He doesn't want to talk to me about anything. To be honest...I don't want this pregnancy, because once i'm give birth to this child, my husband will not do anything with it. I'm pretty sure he will not provide us a stable life. I don't know what to do. I don't to get a divorce. I don't know why my husband is like this. He don't want to go with me to talk to a specalist about our problem. He doesn't want to do anything, just play online games. He been like since 4 months after we got married. What should I do?
  • Resolved Question: Buying my first home.
I have bought two houses in my life, one that I had leased for a while first and the second from a family member. I have not owned a home for 10 years. Then I got a divorce. In the divorce my credit took a major hit. Since then I have just paid cash for everything. On my credit report I only have $4000 in student loans that have just come out of deferment and an old car loan that I paid off about 3 years ago. Everything else has dropped off. I have just gotten married and my new wife has some credit, but not a lot. A car note and a a couple of credit cards. I think her payments were late a few times about 4-5 years ago when she was ill, but have been current since. Not counting the car note, she has never had a single balance above $1,500. We have been paying off her cards since we got marred about 6 months ago. We have reduced her total debt from $1200 to about $7000 with half of that in student loans. We are decreasing the rest by about $500 a month. Now the question: We have doubled our income this year due to finishing college. We want to take advantage of the $7500 tax credit before it expires nest July and buy a house. Where is the best place to get guidance on what to do to accomplish this.
  • Resolved Question: Options for someone with really bad credit
Here's my situation. About 6 years ago I was living with a deadbeat guy who didn't have a job. In order to make ends meet (I was going to school full time and working 3 part time jobs), I got a couple of credit cards to pay for things like groceries, gas, etc. The cards got maxed out, my guy and I broke up, and I was left with the debt. Being a college student, I didn't have a lot of money, so the cards went into collections. More recently, my husband was out of work for about a year, and we got into some real trouble trying to keep up with our bills. Our checking account was overdrawn, and our account was closed. I don't think I'm going to be able to open a checking account anywhere, being as my latest experience will not help me and neither will my credit score. I don't own a home or have any investments right now (although I'd like to in the near future). All together, I have about $5000 in debt, not including my student loans which are deferred right now. Of that, about $3000 is in collections. My credit score is hovering around 500. I work 2 jobs, and my husband just started a full time job. Together, we make about 50k/yr. Does anyone have any ideas for how I can dig myself out of this mess? In the short term, how can I get access to my money with bad credit and no checking account, shy of carrying around cash? I do have a savings account - it's open, but it's empty. I do not qualify for a new credit card (that I've found) to do a balance transfer. Please help!
  • Resolved Question: please help... credit card debt, need advice
Hi, I'm a student so don't have a huge income I rely hugely on my student loan. I have 5 credit cards (I know it's mad and the worst mistake i made) due to financial circumstances this summer I fell behind with my credit card payments, at first I avoided the letters and then they started to call my house and it got to the point that I couldn't avoid them. I rang each company up and they said that I should atleast pay the default charge and until my loan don't come which will be next month they'll keep charging me so each card payment next month, that I'll have to pay, would be around £150. I understand that I fell behind with the payments but they are charging me REALLY high and I just can't afford this. What can I do? If i go to the citizens advice centre what can they help me with? all advice welcome. thank you
  • Voting Question: Renter lies about holding my apartment for showing, so can I get my $300 holding fee back?
I am jobless and yet I am approved for a apartment lease, is that possible? I am looking for an apartment to rent for the coming up school year. My MOTHER WAS SUPPOSE TO BE MY COsigner but she's didn't approve the location (only my father saw the place). Had my father be my cosigner but he’s unemployed for years because of a bad back. Renter says I am approved with good credit. and maybe its because my credit card has been under my moms all along. But I know for sure i wouldn't be approved if i had my own card. Another thing, I had put down a $300 hold fee, the renter tells me that with the hold fee it means that they will not show the place to anyone else. True? If so, they why did I find the listing of the apartment online (where I found the place)? The ad was still up even the day I put down the $300. A new ad was up the next day and even today. Three ads total. I should be able to get my money back if the renter is still adverting. (She claims she knows nothing because she has employees doing the advertising for her.) I say she could have easily let her employees know since I wanted the place. I cant believe the renter lied about how it’d take 15min driving to school, but in reality it’s 25mins. But bottom line, I feel like the renter is cheating her way to make fast money. Please give me a solution so this broke college student with a load of other pressure can get out of this huge nightmare. Yes, the $300 is my savings. I’d be happy with getting back half of the $300 holding fee. Hope other students with money issues (and usually on their own w/o much family assistant) will find this page helpful when people respond. Loans are not an option for me can’t afford to be in debt. Too much!!! I do not think the advertising fee applies because it's free to post on that site. I have also been told by the renter that I have 24hrs to make a final decision otherwise it means that i forfeit the 'holding fee'. Now that i am informed (thanks for the replies) that the purpose of a holding fee is to stop the apartment to be shown to other people, then can i still get my holding fee back? even though my 24 hrs. has just passed? i have copied and saved the proofs of the renter's ads. THANKS ADVISING.
  • Voting Question: I'm 23 and have made some very stupid financial decisions. can I get my credit score up to 750 or more?
I have never been taught how to handle money and have never had alot. Was stupid and got to much credit cards that I could not pay... Have changed and know that I can be better at finances just need to know how to get my credit back. I have past due bills!!! about 5000 in one year past due credit card debt and 25000 in school loans. I will have credit cards paid off in february and student loans paid in 3 years. How long will it take to get my credit score up or is it even possible?
  • Voting Question: Paying for school with a credit card?
I'm 18, paying off 2 student loans, and starting back to school in September where I'll have to start making monthly payments. I am in an unusual situation so no deferments are possible. So, do you think it wise to put all of my school bills and loans on a credit card and then just pay that back? Or does anyone know anything about debt consolidation?
  • Resolved Question: Why can't I get out of this depression and I feel like I have nothing to live for?
Im 26 and my life feels like its going down hill. I lost everything I own and I have 50k of student loans and I been living off my credit cards now 20k. I so gained 15 pounds on top of the stress. I finish college with a finance degree and can't get a real job. Im embarrassed that I have to work at walmart and I can't get ahead. I am starting to feel like all my goals I had in life are unrealistic. I was living with my parents and moved 20 hrs away hoping for a better life of opportunity, but it seems like that black cloud won't leave. Im currently living with my boyfriend and he wants to get married. But I have so many debts about myself, I can't see what he sees in me. He loves me more then I love myself. I would go to the doctor but I can't afford health insurance. I don't know what else to do and the only reason I haven't killed myself is because I don't want to hurt the ones who love me.
  • Voting Question: Does it feel like you work so hard for money and can't do what you want with it?
every paycheck I get, they all go to bills (student loan, car payment etc) I just started a second job and have yet to recieve my first paycheck. I pull in $1,500 a month [first job alone]. $345 go to car payment $200 go to first student loan $100 go to second student loan and the measly rest go to gas, food etc. and thats just the first paycheck for the month. second goes to car insurance, a credit card debt (almost paid off), cell phone and the same two student loans. Do you feel like your in a similar rut? tell me about it
  • Resolved Question: why do i have to be homeless when I have a professional career?
I have a professional job- and a bachelor's degree- which i paid 50,000 for approx. I don't have any credit card debt anymore- I paid it all off- all i have is car insurance, student loan, car payment, cell phone. I only make 2,000$ a month. This is not enough for me to be able to live somewhere on my own- so I have to be homeless and live in my car. This is not fair- I am a social worker and I take care of other people- I shouldnt have to get a second job when I work full time as a professional. Why is our world so effed up that they can't even pay people enough to live on. it's not fair that i can't even have my own place, there is no assistance for people like me- our world favors the lifestyle of the lazy/poor- get knocked up, have 6 kids, work part-time, get food stamps- get section 8- is much easier than going to college and working your ass off, for what? you wont make enough money to support yourself- DONT GO TO COLLEGE. get knocked up with 6 kids- so the GOVERNMENT can pay for your house and food. i live in rockford illinois- cost of living is not high here.
  • Voting Question: These guys came to seize my brother's car to settle a credit card debt and threatened to clean my house out?
The house is in my dad's name. My brother is an idiot that accumulated thousands in credit card debt and refused to pay it off. These goons came to my house with an order from the court to seize the car, a luxury Mercedes, to settle the debt. They threaten to clean out the house to settle the debt if he won't give up the car and knock down the doors. I tell them flat-out they can't, the house isn't in my brother's name. Besides, how can they do that? Case 1: What if he was just a boarder paying rent in the house? Case 2: What if I was a boarder, would they take my stuff too? Case 3: What if my brother owned the house and we were just a bunch of college students renting the place? Would they seize our stuff? For the record, my brother is a degenerate who likes expensive things and doesn't like to pay his bills or his way. My dad won't throw him out. I'm bothered by this recent event. I like to pay my bills, I'd like to know how an asset seizure company can threaten to take my belongings? He gave it up after the cops came. He called his lawyers and acted like an idiot. I would've let them in myself without the games, but I had to play the part. He thought credit cards were free money.
  • Resolved Question: How do I file a lawsuit agains the law firm that "accidentally" sued me 5 years ago?
Five years ago, while I living overseas as a student, my mother had a credit card got behind on the bills. Unfortunately, she got so behind that a judgement was granted against her and her wages were garnished. Unknown to me at the time, I was listed as an "authorized user" on this credit card. She told me about the incident when I returned. I got a copy of my credit report, and turns out...the judgement showed up on my credit as well. I called the law firm complaining and demanding that they show me how I was responsible for the debt. For the first year that I called, they gave me the brush off. Finally, after lots of research, I got a letter from the credit card company verifying that I was not responsible for that debt, because I was 17 at the time the card was opened. I continued to call the law firm asking that they acknowledge the error they made. The paralegal told me "I have you as a Joint account...not authorized user". I faxed him the letter from the credit card company saying "please correct your error...this judegment has been on my credit report for the past 5 years!!!! I now know why I've been denied for apartments, credit cards, car loans, etc!" Seeing the evidence, they decided to file an "action to export" the judgement...I guess that means remove it. But I've suffered for 5 years because of their neglegence and "brush-offs" and feel that I need more than just a "Sorry, ma'am...our mistake". How can I file a suit against them to be compensated for the suffering this neglegence has caused me over the past 5 years? PS. I still have the letters from the apartment complexes that I've been turned down from, credit card companies, student loan lenders...all who say I was denied because of the public record (i.e. judgement)
  • Resolved Question: is it hard to handle your own bankruptcy
me and my wife basically just have medical bills. i burnt up credit cards paying tuitiion and now have over $10,000 in credit cards alone. combined wit my wifes debt which is basically medical bills and other things. we are paying on student loans, i heard i can go to the court house and get a bankruptcy packet for $80 instead of paying a lawyer $1080. we dont make alot and dont have anything we want to save as far as house, car etc. i know i cant get rid of the loan, but if thats all we had to worry about, it would be easier to pay off
  • Resolved Question: I was served with a lawsuit from a debt from 4 years ago....
I had a credit card through a bank back in 2004 and it went delequent. Last monday when I got home from work, a constable came to my door and handed me a paper. It stated that I was being sued by LVNV Funding llc for 1069.00 plus interest, fees and court costs. I'm not sure what to do and kind of freaking out a little bit. I am a full time student and cannot pay that kind of money and especially dont have the money for a lawyer. The letter says that they have contacted me, before the suit was filed, but I dont have anything that I signed for. Also on the paper that was given to me it states that they filed the petition back in march, but it wasnt approved until this month. What can I do? Can I contact them now and see if I can make payment arrangements now, or is it too late? The statue in texas is 4 years...My last payment on the card was 5/04, but the suit was filed in March...I didnt receive it until 7/21.
