My daughter is almost 6 months old, her doctor has had her on jar food for the last month and a half. I think she may have some gum discomfort, as she is drooling wayyy more than she ever has, and is constantly chewing on things. I was wondering when it would be okay to give her either the teething cookies or the zweibeck (sp?) toast under close supervision ofcourse, washcloths and teething rings aren't cutting it for her any more. She can easily move food in her mouth with her tongue and can swallow without any problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Open Question: Do you think girls with "lisps" are sexy?
IDK Y, but I have always thought they were. Maybe it sounds more feminine? Maybe that is why gay guys try to do it, cuz it sounds feminine? Who knows. Anyway, I think a girls voice is very important. If a girl has a "rough" sounding voice it is a big turn off for me. Accents of ANY kind and lisps! Love em' Not like a retarded type speech impediment or anything, just like problems with S's mostly where the girls tongue is over involved in whatever they are trying to say. It just sounds so cute! Plus they always have like a sheepish, girlish, almost insecure smile when talking to someone at first as if embarrassed. I think it adds an almost "innocent" quality to a girl. Kind of like the girl you went to school with who was overdeveloped for her age but gorgeous and was embarrassed by her new-found beauty and didn't quite know how to act. That type of sheepish innocence in the way they talk I find absolutely adorable. (the lisp not the young girl) I guess this is a sort of fetish. DO you or anybody you know feel this way? Accents but mostly lisps. (she has to be pretty too, but the lisp in my eyes just makes her all the more pretty) When a girl first gets a tongue ring they also speak with a lisp for a little, but it usually goes away :(
  • Open Question: I'm getting a tongue ring, and I want to know some advice on this...?
I'm not one of those lame people who is going to ask "Does it hurt?" B/c I know it will! But it's something that I've always wanted... I am not really worried about getting it, but things like care, avoiding infection, and all that stuff. Not sure where I'm going to get it done yet, I know of a few places that I'm conisdering. How badly is this going to affect my ife afterwards. I'm just curious... Any tips? While I appreciate the concern, please don't post answers telling me what NOT to get done to my body. I find it just as offensive as if someone told me what TO do with my body. I didn't ask whether or not I should get one, I believe that I said I AM getting a tongue ring. That decision has already been made. If you disagree, that's great, b/c I'm not forcing you to get one. I'm getting one, it's ME, my body! Lol... People are really ridiculous sometimes. But I suppose everyone has a right to their own opinions and such. Thank you for those who actually did give me real advice. ^_^
  • Open Question: What is the theme of "dulce et decorum est" by Wilfred Owen?
Here's the poem. Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge, Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs And towards our distant rest began to trudge. Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind. Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!-- An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time; But someone still was yelling out and stumbling And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime... Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. If in some smothering dreams you too could pace Behind the wagon that we flung him in, And watch the white eyes writhing in his face, His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin; If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs, Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,-- My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori.

  • Open Question: Can you help me interpret this poem?
I need an interpretation of "Auguries of Innocence" by William Blake. Help me create symbolism especially for the lines; "He who shall hurt the little Wren Shall never be belov'd by Men. He who the Ox to wrath has mov'd Shall never be by Woman lov'd." Here is a copy of the poem: http://www.cs.rice.edu/~ssiyer/minstrels/poems/368.html Auguries of Innocence To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour. A Robin Red breast in a Cage Puts all Heaven in a Rage. A dove house fill'd with doves & Pigeons Shudders Hell thro' all its regions. A dog starv'd at his Master's Gate Predicts the ruin of the State. A Horse misus'd upon the Road Calls to Heaven for Human blood. Each outcry of the hunted Hare A fibre from the Brain does tear. A Skylark wounded in the wing, A Cherubim does cease to sing. The Game Cock clipp'd and arm'd for fight Does the Rising Sun affright. Every Wolf's & Lion's howl Raises from Hell a Human Soul. The wild deer, wand'ring here & there, Keeps the Human Soul from Care. The Lamb misus'd breeds public strife And yet forgives the Butcher's Knife. The Bat that flits at close of Eve Has left the Brain that won't believe. The Owl that calls upon the Night Speaks the Unbeliever's fright. He who shall hurt the little Wren Shall never be belov'd by Men. He who the Ox to wrath has mov'd Shall never be by Woman lov'd. The wanton Boy that kills the Fly Shall feel the Spider's enmity. He who torments the Chafer's sprite Weaves a Bower in endless Night. The Caterpillar on the Leaf Repeats to thee thy Mother's grief. Kill not the Moth nor Butterfly, For the Last Judgement draweth nigh. He who shall train the Horse to War Shall never pass the Polar Bar. The Beggar's Dog & Widow's Cat, Feed them & thou wilt grow fat. The Gnat that sings his Summer's song Poison gets from Slander's tongue. The poison of the Snake & Newt Is the sweat of Envy's Foot. The poison of the Honey Bee Is the Artist's Jealousy. The Prince's Robes & Beggars' Rags Are Toadstools on the Miser's Bags. A truth that's told with bad intent Beats all the Lies you can invent. It is right it should be so; Man was made for Joy & Woe; And when this we rightly know Thro' the World we safely go. Joy & Woe are woven fine, A Clothing for the Soul divine; Under every grief & pine Runs a joy with silken twine. The Babe is more than swaddling Bands; Throughout all these Human Lands Tools were made, & born were hands, Every Farmer Understands. Every Tear from Every Eye Becomes a Babe in Eternity. This is caught by Females bright And return'd to its own delight. The Bleat, the Bark, Bellow & Roar Are Waves that Beat on Heaven's Shore. The Babe that weeps the Rod beneath Writes Revenge in realms of death. The Beggar's Rags, fluttering in Air, Does to Rags the Heavens tear. The Soldier arm'd with Sword & Gun, Palsied strikes the Summer's Sun. The poor Man's Farthing is worth more Than all the Gold on Afric's Shore. One Mite wrung from the Labrer's hands Shall buy & sell the Miser's lands: Or, if protected from on high, Does that whole Nation sell & buy. He who mocks the Infant's Faith Shall be mock'd in Age & Death. He who shall teach the Child to Doubt The rotting Grave shall ne'er get out. He who respects the Infant's faith Triumph's over Hell & Death. The Child's Toys & the Old Man's Reasons Are the Fruits of the Two seasons. The Questioner, who sits so sly, Shall never know how to Reply. He who replies to words of Doubt Doth put the Light of Knowledge out. The Strongest Poison ever known Came from Caesar's Laurel Crown. Nought can deform the Human Race Like the Armour's iron brace. When Gold & Gems adorn the Plow To peaceful Arts shall Envy Bow. A Riddle or the Cricket's Cry Is to Doubt a fit Reply. The Emmet's Inch & Eagle's Mile Make Lame Philosophy to smile. He who Doubts from what he sees Will ne'er believe, do what you Please. If the Sun & Moon should doubt They'd immediately Go out. To be in a Passion you Good may do, But no Good if a Passion is in you. The Whore & Gambler, by the State Licenc'd, build that Nation's Fate. The Harlot's cry from Street to Street Shall weave Old England's winding Sheet. The Winner's Shout, the Loser's Curse, Dance before dead England's Hearse. Every Night & every Morn Some to Misery are Born. Every Morn & every Night Some are Born to sweet Delight. Some are Born to sweet Delight, Some are born to Endless Night. We are led to Believe a Lie When we see not Thro' the Eye Which was Born in a Night to Perish in a Night When the Soul Slept in Beams of Light. God Appears & God is Light To those poor Souls who dwell in the Night, But does a Human Form Display To those who Dwell in Realms of day. -- William Blake

  • Open Question: Isn't Forceful Circumcision of Boys considered MALE GENITAL MUTILATION?
I mean isn't circumcision of any boy under the age of 18 A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY according to Declaration of the Rights of the Child Proclaimed by The UN General Assembly in resolution 1386? Why aren't people who do forceful male genital mutilation on minors put into the Hague for Crimes against Humanity? I mean just because their baby and children doesn't mean that they don't have rights. It should be the boy's choice when he turns 18 if he wants to get a circumcision, tongue ring, tattos, piercings, etc. Why is BODY modification any of a parent's business? Also, what are the psychological effects of circumcision? It introduces TREMEDOUS PAIN and LOSS as the first major memory/experience of a baby boy's life. Many of the most Infamous people in the world are circumcised. Osama Ben Laden, George W Bush, Hamas Leaders, Israeli Leaders, etc. If they weren't circumcised and barbaric violence wasn't the first experience of their life, then maybe there wouldn't be so much violence in the world now.

  • Voting Question: What's wrong with my lip ring ?
I got my lip pierced about a week ago. Today, I woke up and the skin around the inside of it seems to be raised a bit more than before and is slightly tender when I touch it with my tongue (to clean it). Also, there is something white/yellow on the back of the stud. Not around it - literally on the back of it. It's not my skin growing over it though, because it's only in the middle of it. And the front of it looks completely fine. The skin around mine isn't hard or discoloured at all, it just feels swollen. And I've had my nose pierced for over a year, and my body never rejected it.
  • Voting Question: How the heck do I get a relationship started if I can't get over the shyness.I get tongue tied.?
First off, I'm 43 and been single for 24 years. Met him 1 yr ago. Instant attraction on my part. Never happened to me before so it scared the crap out of me. After about a month I took a chance and got his # but was too nervous to call. Not a phone person anyway. We sent alot of text messages to each other. But nothing relationship related. After a few months I just figured its not gonna happen for us and stopped texting him. About 3 weeks ago he sent me a text giving me his new #. And he called me. But he hung up before I could answer my phone. It was only 2 rings. On Christmas day I sent him a text wishing him a Merry Chritmas, he sent one back "right back at ya". Sent him a text wishing him a Happy New Year, he sent back "same to you, texting impaired". Still not sure if he's interested though. Last spring I invited him to watch a movie with me and my kids but he was having dinner with his brothers family. Invited him to go for a drive, but he didn't get back to me until later that night. Said he was out of town. Then I invited him to a movie. He never answered that one. I figured 3 strikes your out. But all those happened last spring. He is always on my mind but I can't seem to get the nerve to call him. I guess it doesn't matter how old you are. Nerves still get in the way. He works nights and I work days so thats another problem. Should I give it up or should I keep trying? And what should I try?
  • Resolved Question: S W O L L E N T O N G U E ?
Anyway, I got my tongue pierced on New Years Eve at around 4'clock. Since then, it has swelled up so it is as big as the barbell (its a longer one supposed to accommodate for the swelling). On the 2nd, I went to the doctors to get some penicillin just in case and some pain meds. It is still VERY tender and I can only eat liquids. One thing that is concerning to me is that it still bleeds from time to time (in the picture the blood has been cleaned slightly) , and usually there is a ring of blood around my tongue when I wake up.... I assume this is from me messing around with it accidentally in my sleep. Also the size of the swelling, is that normal? Let me know if you want better pictures ( I just used the iSight cam on my Mac) http://gallery.me.com/tmarkow#100028 Thanks!!!

  • Voting Question: Glass tongue barbell; single piece? (body modifiers only)?
I read on BME an experience about a guy who had his tongue stretched to an 8 gauge and had a solid glass tongue ring with 6ga balls that were not removable (obviously, because its a one piece barbell). I was wondering where or if I could get one like that somewhere. It was from around 1999 so idk if its still aorund.
  • Open Question: How Is My Story So Far?
It's A Dangerous Game! I walked up the maze of corridors trying to find my dorm room, the white walls blurred past me as my feet roared down the wooden floors. I was walking so fast I wasn’t aware of the boy walking towards me. The next thing I knew I was laying on the floor. I let my head look up seeing the boy that I had crashed into. “I am so sorry!” I stutter apologising; as I lift myself up from the heap on the floor. The boy lying in front of me just laughs. He quickly adjusted his hat which his dirty blonde dreadlocks were messily pulled into. He also stood up he was much taller than my 5ft5 frame, him being maybe about 5ft11. “No...Really I am so sorry; I wasn’t watching were I was going, it’s my first day here, and I'm trying to find my dorm room!” I rush out in one sentence explaining myself. The boy was so good looking it was hard to look at him without blushing. Once again he just laughed. “Look...its ok, what dorm room are you in? And I’ll take you!” he offered, smiling at me, before sliding his tongue out and playing with his lip ring. I slid my hand inside my purple skinny jean pocket, rummaging around in my messy pocket for the bit of paper with my dorm room number on it. Once I had retrieved it, I pulled it out pushing it into the palm of the boys open hand. He un-scrunged it and examined it closely looking at the scribbled writing of black ink on the crushed white paper. Once he was sure he had read it he looked back up at me and smiled. “Look’s like your sharing a room with my twin...Bill!” he grinned. My eyes widened. “I thought boys and girls weren’t allowed to share rooms!” I say extremely shocked. “Well...Yeah...” he smiled, not really giving me an explanation. He stared at my confused face for a few seconds and took the hint that I wanted an explanation. He continued explaining “There are not really enough rooms here, so like there’s 3 people piled into a 2 person bedroom, so girls and guys are sharing!” “Oh...ok, so who are you sharing with?” I questioned him quite interested, as I follow him down the hallway, keeping very close to him. “Oh, right, I’m sharing with 2 of my best friend’s Georg and Gustav!” he laughed, “Georg snores really badly, so like usually I’ll share with Bill, but I guess I can’t anymore, as you’ll have the bed!” he winked, smirking cheekily. I could feel myself blushing extremely badly. “Well here we are...” he smiled, turning the door handle of a door that looked like every other one. I walked in behind him, there was a boy, and obviously his twin sitting on a single bed next to the other, sitting crossed legged with a black medium sized note book placed on his lap. I took a better look at the boy that had showed me the way, comparing their differences; the boy with dreadlocks was wearing clothes far too big for his slim frame. But on the other hand the boy sitting on the bed with black silky hair about shoulder length with streaks of white/blonde wore clothes very tight fitting showing off his delicate slim frame. They both had the same chocolate brown eyes, and both had the same facial features, except the twin with black hair had eyeliner applied thickly around his gorgeous eyes. The boy on the bed looked up hearing two pairs of feet entering the room. “Bill...this is your new roommate...uh...” he explained, turning round and looking at me waiting for me to finish his sentence. “Leah” I finished, laughing slightly. “Leah!” he repeated to his confused twin on the bed, before turning back to me. “I’m Tom, and this is my twin Bill” he smiled, finally answering the question I was asking in my head. I smiled shyly as Bill eyed me up suspiciously, I didn’t blame him, and I think he was just trying to get an impression of what kind of a person he was sharing a room with. I decided to make him know I was a friendly person. “Nice to meet you Bill!” I smiled warmly at him; I could see a glint of jealously in Tom’s eyes. I rubbed it off though. Tom turned around and smiled. “So I guess I’ll see you later!” he smiled, “oh and you’ll be able to meet Georg and Gustav too!” he grinned, giving a nod to Bill, he winked at me and walked out into the corridor closing the door behind him. I stood there awkwardly as Bill re-fixed his eyes on his notebook again. I slightly smiled to myself, feeling awkward as I walk towards the spare bed and sit down. Waiting for him to speak to me, but no words came out his mouth, it was going to be quite tough to get such a shy boy to talk so I was just going to leave him to get used to me. I pulled my laptop of the large hand bag I was carrying with me, I was to wait a while will they got my luggage sorted. I signed onto msn and for the next hour sat and typed away to my best friend Diana. xDianaXBleedingXVengencex Says: Wow, we’ve If you want to read the rest of my story or any of my other storys then e-mail me at; nickiscomp@aol.com And ill give you the links to my website were my storys are x

  • Resolved Question: Stretching a lip piercing?
So, I got my lip pierced back in September, and for some strange reason, the guy did it with a 16g needle. Well, you know those spiral lip rings? I wanted to put one in, and come to find out, I HAVE to taper my lip or else I can't wear the spiral. I don't have the time nor the money to go to a professional, and I've already tapered other places on my body. So, I have a tongue ring that Is completely sterile, and I was thinking that I could use that to stretch the hole. Is there any advice as to making it easier to do? Maybe less painful? Thanks!

  • Voting Question: Medical help- what kind of stroke!?
I am writing a research case study paper and I can't figure out what has happened to my patient. I believe it was a stroke.. Ben, a 55 year old male, has experienced muscle and speech impairment and was brought to cleveland univ hospital for an assessment by a diagnostic team. Ben has completely lost the perseption of the somatic senses from the right side of his jaw, face, and tongue. there is only minor diminishment in somatosensation from his right hand and his lower right arm. The patient was handed a baseball and even though the patient recognizes he has a ball in his right hand, he has almost no ability to identify an object by touch when it is hidden from sight. Sensation in his left arm, torso, and both legs are uneffected. The patient understands written and spoken words and can read and write normally with his left hand. However, his speech is labored and is enunciation is severely imparied. A diagnostic test of the cerebral arteries revealed severel occlusions in the branches of one of the arteries. A series of cognitive, sensory and motor tests also reveal the following: Ben experiences falccid paralysis in the muscles on the right side of his jaw and face. He exhibits diminishing motor skills. Movements of his right hand are hesitant and uncordinated- he can no longer type normally with his right hand on the computer keyboard. His right ring finger is nonfunctional. However, the activity and coordiination of other muscle groups appears to be normal. Based upon all of the diagnostic information, what has happened to Ben?

  • Resolved Question: Did this person get what they deserved?
she is beautiful but is a wicked woman in my opinion. I work retail and while ringing up a customer I ask a customer "Did she help you today?" The lady says "the name isn't she.. the name is Christine don't you forget it". She makes fun of everyone who doesn't look or dress a certain way. She makes fun a a colleague with a slurred tongue and when he reported her she flipped it and tried to pin sexual harrassment on him. She is very fake and the supervisors all swear she is an angel on earth. She doesn't work with me anymore and last I heard she was evicted and got a divorce so she has no job and no one to support her. did she get what she deserved
