  • Resolved Question: What were the names of the Titanic's sister ships?
There were two, and one reputedly had two names before being given the name she sailed with. Can you also say what were the fates of these two less famous ships? This is a trivia quiz, by the way. Several of you correctly named the three ships. One answer actually gave good details on the fates of Titanic's two sisters--Olympic and Brittanic. (We all pretty much know what happened to Titanic, right?) The Olympic class had its origins in 1907 when White Star Line's rival, Cunard, began operations of its two superliners, Lusitania and Mauretania, both very fast turbine-powered ships. White Star chose to sacrifice speed for luxury and build the biggest ocean liners to sail to that date. Olympic was first, completed in spring of 1911. She had something of an affinity for collisions, having been involved in three. The first, with the Royal Navy cruiser Hawke, may have helped seal the doom of Titanic, whose maiden voyage was delayed due to the repairs to Olympic made necessary by the collision. This delay put Titanic in the North Atlantic during an unusually heavy iceberg season. Olympic's second collision was with a U-Boat in 1918, intentional. Her third was with Nantucket. The 1934 accidental collision with the lightship more or less coincided with the end of the Olympic, scrapped after its retirement in 1935. Brittanic was the third ship of the class, begun after the launch of Olympic. It is thought the White Star Line planned to name her Gigantic, but chose the different name after Titanic's sinking, which some thought had jinxed the ship. Brittanic was completed in 1914, but never saw service as a commercial vessel. She was lost to a mine or torpedo in the Dardanelles campaign. Unlike Titanic, Brittanic rests in comparatively shallow waters. White Star Line was eventually merged into Cunard Lines. Lusitania was sunk in 1916 in the Irish Sea. Mauretania remained in service through the 1920's and held speed records throughout her long and storied career. Good answers, for the most part. Richard, you made me smile. Thanks.

  • Open Question: Nascar Trivia Question ?
Who is this driver? I was a little guy. And I never really did that well in Nascar. When other drivers looked at the side of my car, it looked like eyes. I only got 1 top ten in my career, and stopped racing a few years ago. Who am I?
  • Open Question: Nascar Trivia!!! Do you know the answer to this?
On a particular August sunny Sunday my out dated late model stockcar sat on the starting grid for a Cup race that NO ONE picked me to win or even finish descent at. You see all the other teams had brand new shiny stockcars...current (at the time) models while my team was strapped for cash. Our car was several years old and wasn't very fast....the car had never finished higher than 16th. The race began and I started gaining positions. Half way thru guess what....yep I am 16th. But in the final laps I made a desperate attempt to get the lead which panned out! I was leading! The little car that no one believed in including myself....took the checkered flag!!!! It was considered one of the biggest upsets in the history of NASCAR. The team I won for drifted back into obscurity the little car never finished higher than...you guessed it...16th again. And neither did I. I went on to be a journeyman in high demand...but the wins never came again. But I was popular in the 80's covering the sport I loved in a different capacity. So here is my question.....who is the driver I am speaking of? What team or who were the owners of the little car? What mfg? What car #? What race and what year did this occur???? Good luck and have fun with it!

  • Resolved Question: whats the difference between bunny rugs and bassinet blankets?
This might be a trivia question but my sister put the question to me - basically because she is looking at a list the hospital requires you to take with you when you give birth and both are mentioned... So what is the difference between a bunny rug and a bassinet blanket? It is possible a bunny rug is an Australian thing - as when I had my daughter I had a tonne of them they were just a small blanket that was usually not too stiff in texture.

  • Resolved Question: Nascar Trivia!!! Can you name this driver?
Who am I? In my rookie season I had 16 starts The year after that I drove Bud Moore's #15 we were "Greased Lightning!" The next year we were motoring! But in that same year The King fired The Rooster which opened a spot for me. It was too enticing I had to go and leave Bud. The first year together I won a race by beating "Jaws" to the line. We ran together for awhile even switched to Ford along the way. But things turned sour and the sponsor wanted to bring in one of their other drivers from another racing series. So I was let go. But I found a job with a team based out of Ronda NC with a sponsor from North Wilkesboro NC. I was so excited...this was a top ride! But things fell apart almost as fast as they came together. My owner left, so did the sponsor, I bought the team and ran it from my own pocket. Which left me speechless. I found some paychecks to get me thru some seasons....and my friendly neighborhood grocer pinched in a few bucks once and awhile. The last few years sponsorship was very hard to find....a popular eating establishment was "happy" to adorn my car....but only for a ltd engagement. I finally sold off my team and counted my losses. I still drive in NASCAR but in a different fashion....I lead lots of laps...but no one ever screams my name when I take the lead. Do you know who I am???? Good luck and have fun with it.....I will try my best to post ONE question each night around 10ish eastern standard time. AND REMEMBER I WILL ONLY GIVE BEST ANSWER TO THOSE WHO RESEARCH EACH CLUE, AND EXPLAIN THEIR ANSWER. The person who correctly answers the most clues gets the 10 pts. I think that's only fair. Just an opinion as always.
