Resolved Question: Renting sports cars in the UK and USA. Do you have any experience?
There is a lot of rentals in Las Vegas, but I expect not much fun as you have to obey the police rules. Then you have Britain, where are companies offering Lambos, Ferraris, Aston Martins etc. directly on a circuit. How come? You can simply destroy the car. Who pays then ?

Last week a lunatic smashed into my rental car after running a red light at an intersection in the USA. The other driver was at fault, which I can demonstrate via photographs. The rental company says I should be covered for the damage to the car, so do I need to inform my UK insurer? Will my premium go up?

Resolved Question: How can I avoid a young driver surcharge?
I am in the UK and wanting to hire car for this weekend. However, as I am only 23 every car hire company I have looked at adds on a young driver surcharge for under-25s. This pushes the cost up to about £80 which is ridiculous for a 4 day rental period.
I have been driving for 6 years, have no points on my license and have only not owned my own car for the last year. Anyone know a way around this, or any companies that don't charge it?
Resolved Question: I have a UK drivers licence with three points (for speeding) will I be able to rent a car and drive in the USA
I'm off to California in a couple of weeks and what trip to the west coast would be complete without driving Hwy1!?
The problem is that I have occured 3 points for speeding (in April 2005) and am concerned that a rental company won't touch me!
It's also worth noting that I'm just 22.
I'm also concerned that I only have the paper licence and have lost the photo card.
Thanks in advance for your answers (fingers crossed!)

Resolved Question: Going to the USA for 3 months and need a car (I'll be 21), what do I do?
Hi,
Me and 3 mates from the UK are going to the US next summer travelling and we want to drive. We'll all be 21 and i've been told that rental companies will often charge extra if you are under 25, so should we:
a) Go ahead and rent a car with the extra cost, how much roughly would this cost?
b) Buy a cheap(ish) car thats reliable, use that and hopefully sell it somewhere before we head out the country (my cousin and mates did this in Australia and it worked out.) however I don't know insurance, taxes etc in the US so is it worth it?
c) Just use public transport?
Cheers guys.

Resolved Question: Do you know any car rental company in UK where a provisional driver can drive with a proper license holder?
I want to practise driving in UK in a rented car and I have a friend with a clean UK driving license for more than 5 years who is happy to help me to rent a car. But, when I asked the car rental companies, they told me that as a provisional license holder, I am not covered by their insurance and hence cant drive their car.

Resolved Question: When hiring a car in the US, roughly how much extra does it cost to put an additional driver onto the policy?
To put my question into context:
Myself and two other friends want to hire a car and drive across the US this summer. We live the UK. We're all going to be 21 come the time of the holiday.
The company that we've been quoted a price with (www.nationalcar.com) said that we would have to pay extra for each additional driver we wanted on the policy. That's fine with us, we all want to have a drive of the car.
Annoyingly, whilst car insurance and all the other additional costs could be calculated online, additional drivers was the only cost they couldn't/wouldn't calculate. We have to arrange this with them, at the car rental desk, when we go to pick the car up.
In people's experience, how much per person does this normally add to the bill?

Resolved Question: Auto insurance for international visitor?
I will be travelling to West coast USA this summer for two months and i am very much hoping to rent a car. The only problem with this is my age. I am under 21, and while i have managed to find plenty of companies willing to rent to me, they all require that i provide my own liability insurance. The CDW (collision damage waiver) is not an issue since this is covered by my credit card company.
My home auto-insurance in the UK does not extend Liability over driving a) rental cars or b) the USA.
I understand it is possible to buy either just personal liability insurance or a "non-owners" car insurance policy. The problem with both of these is that i don't have an address in the USA. Is there any way i can still obtain insurance?

Resolved Question: Rental Cars in London. Minimum Age of 25??? + Left-Hand Driving?
I'm 18 years old, and me and my friend are backpacking in the UK for a few days this coming summer.
1. What companies are cheap but still not sleezy and semi-legitimate?
2. I have had my licence since march 2007, so hopefully I will be allowed to rent one of their cars. Anyone have any views on this?
(I'm considered a safe driver and have not been in any collisions of any sort since i got my licence). I've heard however, that you have to be 25 to rent cars.
3. Does it take a long time to get used to left-hand driving? I guess the matter of changing gears should be okay, but the mirrored yealding-rules; are they difficult to get used to?
Thanks alot:)

Resolved Question: Credit card for travelling USA?
Do you need a credit card when going to America? All of the hotels say 'credit card required', but I dont have one and I have applied for 3 but they will take ages to arrive.
I am 18, and I live in the UK. Could I use one of my parents credit cards? Do hotels and/or car rental companies accept cash/cheques or any other types of payment? Does the credit card have to be in your name?
Resolved Question: Car hire LA?
Im off to LA in the next few weeks. Im off on business and im 19. I've found a company willing to hire a car to myself and my collegue but they were a little vague about the whole procedure. Both of us have full UK licences' but will they provide insurance, if not, how should we go about this?
The only cars i've ever driven were my own or leased via work so i'm a little unsure of the norm!

Resolved Question: I am from the UK and thinking of doing a road trip across America, but...?
Could I buy a car from say Miami, and get it insured?
How would I go about getting it insured if I am not an American national?
And if the above is not feasable, does anyone know how much a rental car would cost for around 5 weeks?
And does this have pitfalls too - I have heard the majority of car rental companies will charge you a fortune for nothing once you return the car? Is this true?
Thanks for your help.

I do not want to do a car delivery.
I would like to know if - as a tourist - I could BUY a car in the United States and get it insured.
Resolved Question: When agreeing to a contract in the UK, is it necessary to sign all pages in the terms and conditions?
I frequently rent/lease cars and property in the UK and whenever I rent something I always have to sign all pages in the Terms and Conditions. I recently rented a car and after my rental the car hire company want to apply an administration charge which is not on my signed Terms and Conditions. They are citing a clause in my signed terms and conditions that I agree to any other terms and conditions the company may impose. Can they legally do this and is it enforceable?
The hire company told me they'll be sending me a copy of these Terms and Conditions so that I can check them however they said they do not have a signed copy of them since I didn't sign them, however they still want to enforce them because they are saying that the fact that I rented the car is, for them, equal to me signing these conditions - even though they were never shown to me in the first place
Resolved Question: Rental car restrictions in UK?
Ok, so we are traveling to visit the UK around Christmas this year (from the US). We are renting a car to get around. One of the days I would like to take the Chunnel and use it to go to France and ultimately visit Normandy Beach. Are there any restrictions to my ability to take a rental car into another country? If so, are there addendums you can purchase that would allow this sort of thing?
Thanks in advance for the info. Oh, btw, we plan to use one of the major rental car companies (Avis, Hertz, Alamo, etc) as opposed to something like Fred's Rentals.

Resolved Question: Car rental question for renting in Ohio???
Hi,
I'm looking to spend a week or 2 in Ohio on and I would need to rent a car (I live in the UK)
Up to this point it is straight forward, however I'm am under 21 in age and since I live in the UK I would be a tourist over there.
I've never had a traffic violation on my license, I have my full license and been driving for 2+ years and I have never made a claim on my insurance or anything like that.
My problem is I can't find any companies that will rent me a car - I Understand why, it is because of my age and I'm a tourist and the insurance is so high.
Does anyone know of any companies that will rent a car out to a under 21 driver that is a tourist?
Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just seats and a steering wheel, preferably not a huge car but other than that, I'm flexible Anyone know of any companies????
Company names and website addresses wouldbe helpful.
I'll be in the Cincinatti/Dayon sort of area so if there are any local companies, please let me know.
Thanks in advance

Resolved Question: How many hours drive from Dubai to Jeddah?
Hi guys... I was just wondering if someone out there know that
- How long will it take me if i drive from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia)?
- Hows the journey like?
- Safe to drive? or rather travel by air?
I am planning to visit dubai in august and was thinking if its a good drive from dubi to saudia in a rental company car. I have heard that those countries got really good road network and unlike UK petrol is cheaper then a bottle of mineral water. I enjoy driving as well so might as well experience the driving in middle east as well.
All your answers are welcomed.
Thanks for your time.

Resolved Question: Is it possible to rent a car in the US with a UK drivers license that has only been obtained in under a year?
I am having difficulty finding a car rental company in the US that doesn't require you to have held your international license for at least a year - could someone please tell me if such a one does exist?! I have looked at many sites of car rental companies and they all state (in small and very-difficult-to-find print) that you need to have held your license for at least a year. I have been told by others that they have never been asked this when they have rented cars, so I'm just wondering if this is a new regulation or if they just aren't very strict on imposing the rule?

UPDATE:
thanks everyone for your contributions towards trying to resolve my question! I have looked at many sites of car rental companies and they all state (in small and very-difficult-to-find print) that you need to have held your license for at least a year. I checked out Hertz after Douak mentioned them and I thought I'd finally found a company that does not require this, but then after much searching through their FAQs, they also stated that they would only rent to those who have held their license for at least a year!
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if this just a recent requirement that all the companies are asking for or if they simply are just not strict about it?
Thanks again for trying to help :)
