Open Question: What is the best way to get out of debt? Consoldation loan, counseling, etc.?
my husband and I are about $15,000 in credit card debt. We are current on our credit card bills but we are only making minimum payments and seem to be getting nowhere. I thought of a debt consolidation loan but here the interest rates are high. Anyone know anything about a Debt Management Program like Care One? We try not to use the cards. which is difficult at times when money is tight. HELP!
Open Question: Did the U.S. Marshalls violate my rights?
Yesterday, I was coming home from work w/ a friend & when we pulled up to my apt noticed a small sheet of paper stuck inside my door. When I looked @ it, it was nothing but a credit card slip from Sonic. I then tried to open my door and couldn't because my locks had been changed! I went to the office to find out what was going on with my locks. During that conversation, I noticed 2 black guys knocking at my door. The leasing agent made a phone call when I asked about my locks then stepped outside. Then 1 of the 2 black guys came in & asked my name. I identified myself & he showed me his badge. I immediately asked for an attorney and he said it wasn't necessary because I wasn't in trouble. He questioned me about my neighbor and if I knew his whereabouts. I told the agent that he has been in Dallas County Jail for a week. (BTW, They were shocked to hear that he was in jail!). They asked a few more ?'s and went on. Well that day a lady in a gold car was following me arou
she followed me around Dallas and then just parked in plain view in the apt complex when I got back home.
After questioning, I got keys to my apartment and noticed that things had kinda been rummaged through, but didn't really think anything of it. This morning I go to work and find out that the Marshall's had gone to my work and knew that I was scheduled that morning to work and asked where I was.
So what I have concluded from all of this is that they had my locks changed, came into my apartment (the only way they could have known my work schedule) and followed me around for the day just to answer questions concerning the whereabouts of my neighbor. That seems excessive.
My neighbor is on federal parole and is wanted by Marshalls for bank robbery. I am also a felon on state parole for drug related charges. Someone had told them that they saw us together three days ago--which was impossible since he was in Dallas county jail and I was out of town (confirmed with plane ticket
Open Question: Which credit card has a better rewards program during a calendar year?
I'm comparing two credit card reward programs. Card #1 offers 5% rewards on supermarket shopping for about 6 months, and 1.5% on all other purchases. For the other 6 months, the rates are 1% on supermarket and .5% on other purchases.
Card #2 offers 2% all year on supermarket purchases and 1% on everything else.
I realize it depends on what I charge on the card, but overall, which program is better?

Open Question: Moving out of state; unsure about what bank to use?
I have been with a credit union for as long as I've kept money in the bank, but I am going to be moving in June. I'm going to need to switch banks to one that has branches in both states. I am only looking for a bank that can offer me a free checking account (with debit card) and savings account, no monthly service fee, and a low minimum balance in the savings account. I have looked into Wachovia, and they seem to be my best bet. Can anyone give me their opinions or personal experiences with them? Thanks!
Open Question: Am I responsible for my wife's credit card debt?
I have perfectly good credit, so does my wife. She does not work because she takes care of two children. I give her a monthly allowance for her personal spendings, that she does not spend on household. She has her own credit cards.
Lately, I found out that she has been racking up debt. Apperantly, she has no self control when it comes to buying things. She buys everything she wants. Her monthly allowance cannot cover her spendings sprees. She ends up having $40k in debt over a couple years and had almost maxxed out all her credit cards, which she only pays minimum every month.
Can she declare personal bankruptcy without ruining my credit/life? If so, which Chapter?
Will I be made accountable to pay for her debt after her bankruptcy declaration?
How do you deal with a spouse like this?
I don't live in a community property state.
Dude, how is it my fault?
I've talked to her many times about her spending habbits but apparently nothing sinks in. Is it my fault she hides her credit card bills from me? Do I have to baby sit her 24 hours a day even tho she's an adult?
I notice her things, but remember this was accumulated over a couple years not a matter of days.
Open Question: How is your credit rating determined?
Almost a year ago I went to buy a laptop...was gonna pay a deposit and then the rest off monthly. Everything was sorted until when the assistant went to fill out the necessary forms and ring the people involved with the credit stuff (who are they by the way?) refused the purchase. Assistant said it could have been down to the address I gave which didnt have proper hse number or bad credit rating but thing is...I've never had credit card in my life. I haven't paid back my student loan though so would this be a factor in why I was refused? At the time I was also abit overdrawn but not now...can they find this out too?
Open Question: Poll: If you had $3000......?

Open Question: Went to small claims court...lost...60 days to pay..if not wages are garnished????
I have 61 days actualy to pay 4300.00. The whole balance. I want to pay but don't have the money. I wanted to make payments. That wasn't allowed. Overall, if I don't pay within the 61 days she has an statement that says she can go to the sheriff's office to start process of getting wages garnished. Of course I don't want this to happen, I really don't have the money, and don't want to get someone else involve by borrowing it from them. I want to handle things myself. I REALLY WANT TO PAY. What happen's once she goes to the sheriff's office? Do they try to work something out with me? How much will be garnished? I always thought it was 10%? But reading other people's stories I see 25% etc. This was a personal loan. Not credit card or anything like that. HELP! Also, before we left court the arbitrator told her to try and get some money from me now. I have no problems with that but she hasn't even contacted me. I figured if she did, that was a sign that she was trying to work something out

It just messed up my whole idea...should I still get it for him? Or should I find something else? His birthday isn't til the end of May but I want to get his stuff now and put it on my credit card and have it paid off before then.

Every month the minimum is about 15 dollers and I pay that off, making the full amount easier to pay in one shot. Should I just keep paying it off little by little or should I do it all in one shot? Which is better for me over all, and will help my credit score?

I wanted to work it out before. She called me telling me she was going to cancel the claim against me but got in contact with me too late to do it. Then gets in court with this attitude like she was coached on about the situation and wanted the money within 60 days.
Open Question: Can a collection agency refuse to freeze my balance?
I have a credit card that is in collections. Every month, late fees and other penalties that add up to more than $70 is being added to my balance. They say it is because the credit card company will not close the account. And the CC company says that they will not speak to me about the account...that I have to contact the collection agency. How can I get this balance frozen, so that I am just working with one balance and not an increasing one every month?

Open Question: Question about Credit?
So I just got my first credit card, and I haven't reached my first billing cycle yet. I have charged a lot but payed it ALL off already. Open Question: Important question regarding help with women, sort of embarassing?
Hey, this is kind of an embarassing situation, but I am in a bit of a dilemma. I just turned 21, I'm a college student, and yeah I guess you could say Im kind of a nerd, but I'm a pretty good looking guy and I consider myself somewhat intelligent....but when it comes to women, Im pretty much average at best and Ive always been kind of shy.
Anyways, I've been looking at this program online, there is this full comprehensive DVD set that basically tells you everything you need to know about attracting women, and I trust this program a lot cause I've read the Ebook and I really understand what they are saying.
My problem is that the DVD set costs $150 bucks, but I really, really wanna buy it. Thing is, my dad controls my credit card, so any interaction I have goes through him cause he doesnt completely trust me with money. Thing is, it is kind of embarassing telling my dad that Im a 21 year old college student and I suck with women, and want to shell out $150 for this program.
So Im wondering how to ask this question to my dad so I can shell out the money I need to buy this program without it coming off all awkward, cause I really want this program cause I know its gonna help me be happy in life, I don't care if it is $150 dollars and I know Im not being scammed by it, I just dont want to explain it to my parents and have them asking all damn questions about my love life and why Im not happy and blah blah blah I just dont wanna deal with it.
In response to the first answerer, buying the DVD could teach me so much more in a few hours than just going to the bar and observing people would take...it would take more time, more money, more frustration, that is just dumb, why not just buy the DVD set and get all the information I need to know compressed?
Open Question: Bank Credit card??
About 2 weeks ago I did an application at my bank for a credit card. I believe that I have good credit with my bank. I have a handy line with 2000 and they gave me a personal loan of 3000. I always make my payments on time. The card issuer is GE money bank. Would they go on my credit standing at my bank or my actual credit. Because my mid credit score isn't good it is around 640. I have been waiting and waiting I have not received the card or a letter denying me. Should I call GE money bank or my bank.
Open Question: Anyone need to hire a car in Spain that does not have a credit card?
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone that answered my question the other day with regards to hiring a car in Spain without a credit card.I have since discovered that a car hire company called Avis have recently changed their policies. They now accept debit cards in the name of the hirer/driving licence/card holder, so you can hire a car in Spain with a debit card. They saved my life, as now I can enjoy my weeks holidays and Formula 1 experience, next week, with the comfort of a car. Again thank you to everyone that answered my original question.

Open Question: Should I stay with a cheating wife.?
A few days ago I found out my wife of 10+ years was cheating. She denied it right to the end. It wasn't a one-night drunken stand but a sought out relationship orchestrated between work and family responsibilities. I brought up the issue after numerous indications over the last 2 weeks (evasive answers, unknown phone messages, bizarre spending habits, missing joint credit card statements, and odd behaviour). I feel hurt, betrayed, lost... I feel like we should attempt to stay together for numerous reasons (I still love her, we have 3 children, and I don't want to abandon the life we've built together). The problem is - I don't feel a strong committment from her and I am not sure I can trust her. Is she going along with it just for the kids or fear of something else (for example reputation - we live in a smallish community on Vancouver Island)?

Open Question: Hiding Credit Card Bills?
My wife has opened up a credit card that I knew nothing about. She also hides the bills when they come in. Being married, I do not think this is right. I now do not trust her the way I should because I do not know if she opened other cards. There should be no secrets in a REAL marriage. Am I wrong for feeling this way?
Open Question: Funds placed in dispute on paypal?
I put the funds for an item I bought on ebay through paypal immediately into dispute once the money had been transferred. Is this money now "locked" in the seller's account. Open Question: Problem at work with boss's boss?
I am going through a phase at work where I am being sidelined in everything. The VP of the division insists on my boss presenting my work to the president of the division. The credit thus is shared by the two of them. It is going to the extent that I am taking my project team out for dinner and the VP has said that he will come and pay for the meal (We will use the company card so either way the company pays) It is just that he will get the credit. I am planning to make it a point to say it in front of everyone that this is a project dinner so you should back off.
Earlier too during a presentation of mine he had made some stupid remark, I countered and he looked arrogant. So he back with 'I guess I asked for it, he he he...'
It is really making me frustated...

Open Question: i can't view my credit report...?
i tried to get my free annual credit report, and when i did, i had to answer a security question to prove who i was. the question was "our records indicate that you have opened a mortgage in Feb of '08 with one of the following banks, which one?"
then it gave me a list. i didn't open a mortgage of any kind, ever, so i chose "none of the above".
now it is telling me that my info is incorrect and i can't get my credit report. i called all the banks on the list, and none of them have a mortgage taken out in my name. i have to send out all my personal info (copy of ss card, drivers license, address, utility bills, etc) to someplace in GA, to get my report by mail and i don't feel comfortable with that. i have called all 3 bureaus and none of them have people i can talk to. it's all machines that can't help me. my bank told me the best i can do is apply for a small loan to get a report. will they even do that? how do i know my identity isn't being used? is there anyplace i can call?
in response to the 1st 2 answers:
i already called this #!! i just called it again, and it is the same # iv'e been given.
Open Question: Putting all credit card debt onto one card?
My husband and I are trying to get out of debt. We have a plan written down that would allow us to pay our credit cards off in a little less than 4 years. Sounds like a long time, but at least we have a plan to pay it all off. We would be able to if we put our two cards we have debt on into one credit card, which is a card we have, so we wont open a new one. We have excellent credit and I dont want our scores being hurt, but we'll save a lot of money by putting it all one one card. In that we would have about 14,900 on one credit card, with no other credit cards with balances.
Is it a good idea to transfer and put it onto one card. I heard its bad to have so much one one card, but we would pay like 320 a mont on it, plus put our 1000 tax return on it in May. I dont want our credit score to be badly damanged, but I want to get outta debt asap and not drag it on. I mean 10.32 variable apr vs. a 7.9 fixed apr on the one card.
What worries me is we would be a little more than 2000 away from our credit limit. Granted every month it would get further and further away from that. I just know it isnt good. But is it worth it if you have to take a dip in your credit score.
Open Question: I have protection on my cards re losing my job but I am self employed?
