1 of my friends has been mixing lortab (hydrocode) & propoxy (darvocet), & I was wondering how dangerous this is? 4 x'ampl ppl who mix heroin & cocaine, heroin slows the heart rate, & cocaine speeds it up, so that combo is basically lethal. does hydrocodone & darvocet both have the same effect on the heart rate, or does 1 slow it down & 1 speed it up? 10q 2 any1 who could give me sum info.

I have a chronic pain condition caused by an autoimmune disease and the pain has been getting pretty bad lately. I originally was on Darvocet for about 2 years, then started Vicodin about 6 months ago, then Norco [for less tylenol per dose] about 2 months ago. The pain is still pretty bad and was today prescribed Methadone [5-15mg, every 4 hours as needed].
I looked it up, and it seems like the primary use for this med is for heroin withdrawal, yikes! That sounds scary. My Dr. also said that I can still use the Norco as needed if it still hurts along with the Methadone.
So my question is, is this a normal pain med prescribed for chronic pain conditions? What type of effects can I expect? The pharmacist said 5mg was a very low dose. So I guess I'll start with it and see. Pain relief wise, how does it compare with norco/vicodin/hydrocodone? Is it stronger, or just longer acting, or.....? Thanks for any info you can offer about this stuff.
One other question about this medicine is, it seems that it may "block" the effects of other opiates. Which I think may also be the reason it's used for opiate-addicts...?
If this is true, then I would guess that it would block and essentially null out the effect of the Norco/hydrocodone.....so why would my dr. say to keep taking it as well? Methadone sounds like a strange medicine, unless I'm reading its details wrong?
Resolved Question: Is more than 4 Soma per day safe?
I was recently prescribed darvocet and Soma for a chronic muscle pain condition. I used to take 4 per day, the max daily recommended dose. But when I saw my doctor he said that if needed I could take up to 6.
I looked online and in the literature and info out there, it says that the max dose per day of Soma [Carisoprodol] is 4.
My muscles really hurt bad and would like to take more if it is safe. But obviously don't want to kill myself and realize that sometimes doctors mess up. I called the pharmacy and they just say follow your dr's orders, so not much help.
I was wondering if anyone has experience with soma and if so, if you've ever taken or been prescribed more than 4 per day? Or even better, hopefully a nurse or doctor on here if that's not hoping too much. thanks again everyone. i've posted a lot of questions lately and have gotten so many great and helpful answers.
The only reason i am questioning the doctor's order is because the prescription has been being filled for over a year on refills, so the prescription instructions are the same on the bottle [take 4 a day as needed for pain].
but he verbally told me otherwise. and doctors are human and make mistakes. they are busy and may have made a mistake. i was hoping to hear from someone that has taken it, or knows otherwise.
also, i tried calling the doctor this morning but he is on vacation for 2 weeks.
Resolved Question: Can I get info from anyone that's used the duragesic patch 50 ?
I have bad back problems, in the last year I have used the following meds for pain: all strengths of lortab, vicodin, & percocet. darvocet, demerol (sp?), morphine 30mg, oxycontin 40mg. then for muscle relaxers: valium 10mg, soma, robaxin (sp?), flexril (sp?), and skelaxin (sp?). So far oxycontin 40mg has worked the best, but it's still not anything great & super expensive...it's just better than the other painkillers ive tried. as far as muscle spasms Soma is the keeper, i'm happy eventhough my insurance wont even cover it. i've had issues with my insurance covering anything above percocet so im weary of trying expensive meds that i might be wasting hundreds of $ on. my Dr just recommended i try duragestic patch 50, vicodin for breakthrough pain and Soma. i am not familiar with the patch at all and am looking for info from people who have used it, not just the general info i've found on the 'net. I'd appreciate any help at all.
*my awful, cheap insurance does not cover the generic version of this patch, i've already priced the generic patch & it's $178
*along w/the patch (50 strenght) my PM Dr is prescribing vicodin 7.5 for breakthrough pain and soma for muscle spasms.
*my insurance does NOT cover the patch (generic or brand), i have to pay. they dont seem to cover anything above percocet. for example oxycontin is only covered for patients with cancer or AIDS. and my PM Dr has written to them, they just wont budge. i have tried lots of other meds, believe me,. i didnt just jump to meds that are expensive & aren't covered by my insurance seeing as i'm unemployed (therefore broke) due to my back pain.
Resolved Question: Why does pain medication cause ringing in my ears?
I have been prescribed a few different things for my gallbladder attacks (pending surgery)...... Vicodin, Darvocet and Tylenol 3 make me feel terrible and they don'r work. Percocet works the best, but I need two to get rid of the pain. My doctor says that it is okay, they are 5/325 tablets. Will the tylenol hurt my liver? The bottle says 6 hours, but I need it closer to 4, is that normal? Am I immune to pain medication or just in a lot of pain? Even morphine in the hospital only lasted around two hours.
Any info is helpful!

On May 8, 2006 I was in a bad car accident I suffered a concussion (grade 2) herniated disc and an angular tear (lumbar area L4 vertebrae). Well needless to say I have had a painful 10 months however a new symptom has presented itself that has caused me some concern: Today at work I had a feeling like I was being electrocuted not like pins and needles like a leg falling asleep but like someone was shocking me in the back with a very sharp painful tingling and my legs became very week my knees were barely able to hold me up I have had my left leg go numb a few times but this was different I was hoping someone might know what this is I am going to meat with my orthopedic/spine therapist asap but it will take a week or so to get in so I hope someone might be able to give me some info in the mean time I searched the internet but got only results about pins and needles in the legs.If it helps I am an athletic 23 y/o female 5'6 115 lbs treated w/ darvocet, loritab, lidocaine patches and PT.

Resolved Question: I'm up for work comp settlement, still need meds, what can I do to get the max?
one doctor gave me an impairment of 8% and another 5%. The one of 5% spoke with work comp lawer and now has been against me ever since. Up for settlement hearing and i still need meds. was informed that I can not come back in the future and ask for medical treatment. I was also told that I will give up my rights to sue for more money. Is there anyone out there that has info for me. They are offering $4,000, but what am i to do about my meds. I only take one and that is darvocet and there are having a problem with that. Any info would be appreciated. I haven't worked in 2 years because of my injury. But the doctor that spoke with work comp lawyer tells me to follow the restrictions of the FCE which was done with the recommendations of work comp. I can sit for 1 to 1 1/2 hrs, standing the same. bending cause pain and I don't even try to reach over my head too much.
