  • Resolved Question: i have had a migraine that has lasted for about three weeks?
does anybody know what the worst case scenario is for me? i have had them before but never with nausea. and the nausea started saturday. i have had my eyes checked and i have 20/20 vision. and he said my eyes were definitely not the cause. i do not have insurance so i feel like i am out of options. does anybody have any advice for me? please and thank you. o and i am taking fioricet and finergin. but i am having to take the fioricet about every 3 to 4 hours instead of every 6 like the bottle says. today i tried to not take one when i thought the meds were waring off (you know i thought there was a chance it was just all in my head ) but not long after i started seeing my aura's and got nausea and my head was killing. so if anyone can help, i would be so thank full.
  • Resolved Question: I have had a headache for 3 days. Starts in the right neck area & goes up. Took everything to reslove issue.?
At first i thought it was a kink in my neck. Tried to rub it out. Then yesterday I had blured vision when I woke up and when lying on my right side it felt like my head was going to explode. Now I haven't had the blured vision again but my head still feels like it is going to explode when I lay on my right side. I've taken acetaminophen, ibuprofen, fioricet and today I am trying Clartin-D 24hr. I have 4 children that cause a lot of stress. I work out 3-4 times a week. While working out on Monday I noticed my pulse was higher than normal. HELP. I need relief. I don't want to call the doctor and don't want to go to the er!

I have to be in school in 4 hours and i cant miss a day , i have not gotten any sleep in about 3 days please someone tell me what i may be able to do besides going back to the hospital! any suggestions would help ! please OK now , I JUST got home from sitting in the ER for 5 hours about an hour ago, took the meds and layed in my room in the dark , with no noise whatsoever , the pain was just so unbearable i couldnt lay there anymore ! the only reason i am on here is to see if anyone has a suggestion that might help ! as for the apple cider viniger , There is no store open around here at 5am , maybe i can try that tomorrow if it dont go away !
  • Resolved Question: How come Fiorinal is a Schedule 3 (C-III) controlled substance?
Fiorinal is just aspirin, caffeine, and butalbital, so why is it controlled? I've never hear of anyone abusing this before. Fioricet; which is acetaminophen, caffeine, and butalbital; is not a controlled substance. So how come Fiorinal is classified as a controlled substance and Fioricet isn't? Thanks for your help, please include referrences.
  • Resolved Question: I have such bad migraines and my pupils go crazy?
I have been getting migraines for 8 years. I have been getting them a lot this past year. I get them about 3 or 4 times a week and sometimes more. When I get them it seems to be random but last for days. (I keep a migraine diary.) My pupils get really big and then small again very fast without any light change over and over again for hours. When I look down or stare at something I get a flash of light sort of and can't see for a moment. Sound hurts and I have nausea. I had a CT scan done before and they gave me Midrin but it didn't do anything for me. I was also prescribed Elavil as a night pill but they affected my mood in a negative way. I was also prescribed Fioricet but it doesn't do anything for me, I'm sensitive to the caffeine and OTC meds don't work. I don't know what to do anymore and my doctor's don't seem to know what to give me either. It's driving me insane and messing things up in my life. Any help or suggestions on what I should do?!?!
  • Resolved Question: Anyone had a BAD reaction to Elavil or Amitriptyline?
My son was prescribed Elavil (generic name Amitryptilene) to control on-going headaches. He took 25 mg. daily for approximately three weeks with no relief. He seemed more irritable on the medicine but we thought it may be irritability due to the headaches. The doctor then increased his dosage to 50 mg. daily on 3/11/08 and added a dosage of Fioricet (Butalbital). On the afternoon of 3/12, he seemed overly energetic. He got into a minor arguement with his brother and left home, saying he was running away from home. I went to pick him up and he began to physically attack me. His brother and I forced him into the vehicle for his own safety. As we drove home, he tried to open the door and jump out of the car. What then followed was three hours of living hell. He was uncontrollable and was in a fit of rage. He found a knife and said he was going to kill everyone in their sleep. He attacked anyone who tried to talk to him and was having hallucinations. We got him to the Emergency Room and he had finally calmed down. He didn't remember much about what had happened and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for observation. This behavior was completely out of character for my son. He is a gentle child who never gets angry for more than 10 minutes. On this medicine he was extremely agressive. I have contacted the manufacturer as well as the FDA. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
  • Voting Question: What meds can I take for migraines while breastfeeding?
I have had migraines all of my life. My aunt had them as well. I had them much more frequently while pregnant with my two sons (one almost 3 & one 8 months). Currently I am still breastfeeding my 8 month old and I want to continue as long as possible. Here for the past few months I have been having chronic migraines (sometimes 3-4 per week). I went to my family physician & he told me there was nothing I could take while breastfeeding other than Tylenol. I talked to my OB & he prescribed me Fioricet (no codeine). He refilled it twice & when I asked for the one with the narcotic in it he refered me back to my family doctor & said he would rather he help me. I have an appointment with a neurologist on May 30th (this is the earliest they can get me in). What can I do in the meantime? There has to be something that can help without me having to quit b/f. These headaches are taking over my life.

  • Resolved Question: Fioricet ... Any Success?
I'm 12w 4d pregant, and have been having HORRIBLE migraines AT LEAST 3 times a week, and they usually last at least 24 hours, sometimes longer. I spoke with my doctor about this yesterday and he prescribed me Fioricet to hopefully help me with it. Just wondering if anyone has had any success with taking these for headaches? Doc said that sometimes they help patients and sometimes they will make it worse. He said we had 2 more options if this drug is not successful. Anyone taken them? What was the outcome for you? Please note: I'm NOT asking if they are safe to take during pregnancy... Obviously my doctor wouldn't have prescribed them if they could be harmful =)
  • Resolved Question: What's wrong with doctors?
I've had bad headaches for about 4-5 years now.I've had the same doctor for 3 of those years.Everytime I have an appointment (about once a month) I complain of the headaches. They're migraines and they do interfere with my every day life.I've tried alot of painkillers and whle they dull the pain it never really goes away.Where doI get these painkillers? From people I know.I'm an adult, not a teenager seeking to get high.My doctor refuses to give me anything but 800mg ibuprofen. This doesn't work at all.Maybe because I've been taking it so long.I recently had to go to the ER yet again for a headache that was affecting my vision. The ER doctor gave me Fioricet. It helped so much and didn't make me feel high.So at my last visit I asked for a prescription of it.He refused to give me more than 10 because it's "addictive".I'd rather be addicted than suffer from migraines all the time. He's was adament about that but freely gives me Soma to help with back pain and Prozac for depression. Those can be addictive too.Do I have to wait until I'm older with even more health problems to get some help?Or maybe I should die first so he'll know I'm not lying. He won't give me a referel for an MRI or CAT scan. And I can't change doctors because I'm on medi-cal and I can't wait that long to see a doctor.(It takes forever).I want to file a report against him but don't know if I have just cause. He's so quick to prescribe anything else. But nothing I say or do can get him to help with the headaches.Anti-inflamatories do not work for me.I' at a loss as what to do here. I've had my eyes checked.Perfect vision. No changes. It's scary for me because 2 of my aunts have had brain aneurysms and died because of it.I've also had a head injury. Well Nonya I AM in fact having migraines and while painkillers don't take away all the pain they do help a little. They make it mostly tolerable anyway. I can't take things like Imitrex. They make me sick and upset my ulcer. What I want everyone to understand here is that taking painkillers is NOT an enjoyable experience for me.I don't seek to get high from them.I just want the migraines to go away.Isn't the doctor's job to help?I've asked at least 5 times for an MRI or CAT scan becasue I know regular headaches are not normal. They won't give me one.I want help.I'd rather them go away than have to bum painkillers off people I know for the rest of my life. This is no way to live and it's taking time from my life. How in the hell do you know I don't have a medical problem? And for your information I get plenty of exercise.I have a 2 year old. There is NO laying around being a "useless" woman for me. There's no need to be a jerk about this.
  • Resolved Question: Fioricet an Ibuprofen?
I have had a Bad headache all afternoon into tonight. I finally gave up and took 3 fioricet and an Ibuprofen. The pain was bad. Now I am dizzy when I sit back and I had a brief ringing in my ear which went away in less then 20 seconds. I know I will go to sleep soon I was just wondering. It says every 4 to 6 hours so I assumed it wouldn’t hurt. I am overweight so I thought it wouldn’t affect me. Is it cause for alarm or will I sleep it off? the sleepiness wore off now. I think it was just mental exhaustion the sleepiness wore off now. I think it was just mental exhaustion
  • Resolved Question: Migraines or headaches?
I have been having severe headaches since the beginning of April. These headaches usually last all day with little or no breaks inbetween. I noticed that when I get them my pupils dilate. I went to my opthamologist and he said my optic nerves had little damage to them and they were probably cluster headaches. I then went to my PCP - he started me on Prednisone for 7 days but there was no relief. Since then he's put me on Fioricet, Imitrex, Axert, Zomig, Tylenol #3, and Epidrin. None of these have given me any relief. I went to a neurologist on Friday and he confirmed that they were not migraines. He said my symptoms were not typical of migraine behavior. Headaches last all day on my left side, no tearing or yellowing of eyes, no runny nose, but my hearing on the left sometimes goes out. He prescribed Naproxen and also ordered an MRI. He told me it could be something more serious.I have a lot of faith in this doctor as he has been voted one of the best in America since 1996 My question is: What could the more serious part be? Tumor, cancer, hemmorhage? Also, do you think I'm doing everything possible or should I see another specialist? I forgot to mention the current meds that I take: Atenolol (for SVT), Colestid, and Nexium. I thought Atenolol would help the migraines as well but it doesn't. I'm also taking Compazine for nausea. Ever since these headaches started I have been naseaous and vomiting.

  • Resolved Question: Any ideas on how to treat migraines? Non medicinal please!?
I have had chronic migraines for the past 4 years. I will have one at least once a month but recently they have been more frequent.....sometimes once a week. I have taken SO many prescription meds.....Midrin, Imitrex, and even gotten shots of Tordol. No matter what I take I still get the migraines. Fioricet is the only thing that worked, but it will be 3 weeks before I can get into my doctor. Any ideas on how to treat my migraines without a prescription? Tylenol and Advil don't work. I have a 3 year old, a 6 month old, and a puppy and so they might be stress related. Any advice will work wonders. Thanks!

  • Resolved Question: Does anyone suffer from constant headaches and no doctor seems to be able to help?
I suffer from headaches everyday. Some are migraines and some are just bad headaches. I have been seeing a neurologist for years and he is out of options. The only thinf=g that helped me was botox injections but my insurance sompany stopped paying for it. I have now developed a dependancy on fioricet pain medication. I want to be pain free and I want to stop taking these pills but I have 3 kids and I need to be able to function(the fioricet takes the pain away so I can do my daily stuff with the kids and taking care of the house ect...) I am going to a headache specialist in a few weeks. My neuroligist told me a long time ago before the fioricet thing that I suffer from migraines, tension headaches and everyday pain. Is there anyone out there that has a similar problem? I have had cat scans and mri's they can't find anything.
  • Resolved Question: Any suggestions for Migraine prevention?
I have been getting migraines every 1 1/2 weeks for the last 3 months. (At times the migraines were 2x a week.) They seem to go in a pattern coming specific days apart--although the number of days last for a while and then switches to another number of days apart. I get the 20-30 minute aura before the migraine starts. Imitrex doesn't really work. I now take Fioricet for the symptoms and it works fairly well. I do eat chocolate every day, but that is not a new thing. I don't drink coffee or red wine. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do or why I am getting them. When they intially started I was really stressed and anxious. I have since tried to calm myself down for the most part. I did end up with anxiety induced High Blood pressure but with the help of medicine that is now back to normal. Thank you for your help. I forgot to mention that I'm a Dental Hygienist. So I do have a lot of muscle tension in my neck and shoulders.
