Open Question: Was I rude?
This is what happenned:
A customer asks where he should leave laundry, I reply at the front desk, he then asks where he could get information about the city...I reply the at the concierge desk.
He says to me, "All you do is direct me to other places." I reply, " No, I answered your questions". He then stormed off muttering about how I was playing games on the computer the entire time I was talking to him...I said he did not know what I was doing on the computer, Of course he complained about me.
Was I at fault. Normally, I am not "snappy", but I was sick that day. I kind of feel a little at fault, but feel he helped get me an attitude.
Agree?
Later on...I took him up a gift and apologized. I felt guilty, so I must have been. He said...no problem.

Say its like snack food or candy.
Maybe it's just me that thinks to share it with everyone else. That's just how I've seen it handled. People say that I'm too nice. Whatever.
It's usually a gift for the company and not the individual.

Open Question: What Should I Do?
my brother and his gf both in their 40s are seeing each other a year.
He does NOT want to marry at all, while she DOES.
She has invited our family over for dinners and events and we have done likewise with her, however, I am saddened my brother does not want to marry her and is just using her, which he said recently.
So, he is involving both families just stringing us along, and emotions and whatnot are involved. We also buy her gifts for her birthday and bring cooked meals over. So we are attached to her.
When I see her again, I will be extremely sad knowing my brother's intentions, and have told him not to use her. Should I still go to her place? Because my heart is sad, and my mother is upset as well. I don't want to say anything to her, but yet, it causes strife. HELP!
NOTE: We are raised old fashioned to have relationships, and then marry when we become serious and love the person.

Open Question: How to deal with abandonment issues. .?
My biological mother left me as a baby, her mother (my grandmother) raised me. I have always struggled with being to clingy to others. As I got older I learned that people are going to come and go in your life and thats a fact. Recently my problem has kicked up again. You see, my grandmother recently passed away, my bff started going out with my ex (now she won't speak to me) my other friends have moved across the country, and I'm getting married. The wedding is bringing out the worst in me. After my grandmothers death I starting speaking my mother again, getting to know my brother and sister. I invited her and the kids to a party I was having, not only did she forget and not come, no one else came either. I sent out over 100 invitations, inviting whole families expecting about half of the people to come. The ONLY people coming are my husbands friends. Everyone else is giving me reason why they can't come, send a gift or even give there blessings. How do I get over feeling abandoned?
Open Question: i revceived a $11,000 piece of land 2 years ago from a relative as a gift. i sold it for $100,000 in 2008..?
he has just passed away and i am handling estate issues. is there a tentative tax base? or was the gift considered totally out of the estate at the time of gift?
Open Question: How far do you go to give your kids what they want?
My daughter will be 8.
On her bday she has requested the following:
A hotel room for the night for she and 7 of her bff's.
A limo to pick each girl up at their homes.
A makeover for each girl at 'Glamour Girls' ($20.00 a person)
The price for all is rediculous , not to mention that doesn't cover the cake, gifts, and decorations.
She is always so humble and appreciative of everything, but somehow thinks this is a 'normal' party that kids have all the time for their bday's.
My husband has told her yes to all of these things, but I think it is overboard! WAY overboard!
Isn't there a line to be drawn when giving your child what he/she wants?

Open Question: My company loaned me $5,000 to pay medical expenses. Now my loan is being taxed... please help???
My company was going to give me $2,000 as part of their profit sharing plan. I told them to keep it and apply it towards my loan to them. However, they taxed my on the $2,000... is this right? They consider the profit sharing money as a free gift to employees, but now my loan is all of the sudden considered an advancement of salary and handled as income. Something doesn't make sense here! Can the IRS legally make money from the repayment of my personal loan? I thought personal loans weren't taxable? Isn't the repayment of the loan my liability alone? I feel like I'm paying interest to the IRS for this loan and it seems wishy washy to me.

Open Question: can some one translate these sonnet for me? pleaseeee ASAP?
From fairest creatures we desire increase,
That thereby beauty's rose might never die,
But as the riper should by time decease,
His tender heir might bear his memory:
But thou contracted to thine own bright eyes,
Feed'st thy light's flame with self-substantial fuel,
Making a famine where abundance lies,
Thy self thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel:
Thou that art now the world's fresh ornament,
And only herald to the gaudy spring,
Within thine own bud buriest thy content,
And tender churl mak'st waste in niggarding:
Pity the world, or else this glutton be,
To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee.
II (Sonnet 2)
When forty winters shall besiege thy brow,
And dig deep trenches in thy beauty's field,
Thy youth's proud livery so gazed on now,
Will be a tatter'd weed of small worth held:
Then being asked, where all thy beauty lies,
Where all the treasure of thy lusty days;
To say, within thine own deep sunken eyes,
Were an all-eating shame, and thriftless praise.
How much more praise deserv'd thy beauty's use,
If thou couldst answer 'This fair child of mine
Shall sum my count, and make my old excuse,'
Proving his beauty by succession thine!
This were to be new made when thou art old,
And see thy blood warm when thou feel'st it cold.
III (Sonnet 3)
Look in thy glass and tell the face thou viewest
Now is the time that face should form another;
Whose fresh repair if now thou not renewest,
Thou dost beguile the world, unbless some mother.
For where is she so fair whose unear'd womb
Disdains the tillage of thy husbandry?
Or who is he so fond will be the tomb,
Of his self-love to stop posterity?
Thou art thy mother's glass and she in thee
Calls back the lovely April of her prime;
So thou through windows of thine age shalt see,
Despite of wrinkles this thy golden time.
But if thou live, remember'd not to be,
Die single and thine image dies with thee.
IV (Sonnet 4)
Unthrifty loveliness, why dost thou spend
Upon thy self thy beauty's legacy?
Nature's bequest gives nothing, but doth lend,
And being frank she lends to those are free:
Then, beauteous niggard, why dost thou abuse
The bounteous largess given thee to give?
Profitless usurer, why dost thou use
So great a sum of sums, yet canst not live?
For having traffic with thy self alone,
Thou of thy self thy sweet self dost deceive:
Then how when nature calls thee to be gone,
What acceptable audit canst thou leave?
Thy unused beauty must be tombed with thee,
Which, used, lives th' executor to be.
V (Sonnet 5)
Those hours, that with gentle work did frame
The lovely gaze where every eye doth dwell,
Will play the tyrants to the very same
And that unfair which fairly doth excel;
For never-resting time leads summer on
To hideous winter, and confounds him there;
Sap checked with frost, and lusty leaves quite gone,
Beauty o'er-snowed and bareness every where:
Then were not summer's distillation left,
A liquid prisoner pent in walls of glass,
Beauty's effect with beauty were bereft,
Nor it, nor no remembrance what it was:
But flowers distill'd, though they with winter meet,
Leese but their show; their substance still lives sweet.
VI (Sonnet 6)
Then let not winter's ragged hand deface,
In thee thy summer, ere thou be distill'd:
Make sweet some vial; treasure thou some place
With beauty's treasure ere it be self-kill'd.
That use is not forbidden usury,
Which happies those that pay the willing loan;
That's for thy self to breed another thee,
Or ten times happier, be it ten for one;
Ten times thy self were happier than thou art,
If ten of thine ten times refigur'd thee:
Then what could death do if thou shouldst depart,
Leaving thee living in posterity?
Be not self-will'd, for thou art much too fair
To be death's conquest and make worms thine heir.
VII (Sonnet 7)
Lo! in the orient when the gracious light
Lifts up his burning head, each under eye
Doth homage to his new-appearing sight,
Serving with looks his sacred majesty;
And having climb'd the steep-up heavenly hill,
Resembling strong youth in his middle age,
Yet mortal looks adore his beauty still,
Attending on his golden pilgrimage:
But when from highmost pitch, with weary car,
Like feeble age, he reeleth from the day,
The eyes, 'fore duteous, now converted are
From his low tract, and look another way:
So thou, thyself outgoing in thy noon:
Unlook'd, on diest unless thou get a son.
VIII (Sonnet 8)
Music to hear, why hear'st thou music sadly?
Sweets with sweets war not, joy delights in joy:
Why lov'st thou that which thou receiv'st not gladly,
Or else receiv'st with pleasure thine annoy?
If the true concord of well-tuned sounds,
By unions married, do offend thine ear,
They do but sweetly chide thee, who confounds
In singleness the parts that thou shouldst bear.
Mark how one string, sweet husband to another,
Strikes each in each by mutual ordering;
Resembling sire and child and happy mother,
Who, all in one, one pleasing note do sing:
Whose speechless song being many, seeming one,
Sings this to thee: 'Thou single wilt prove none.'
IX (Sonnet 9)
Is it for fear to wet a widow's eye,
That thou consum'st thy self in single life?
Ah! if thou issueless shalt hap to die,
The world will wail thee like a makeless wife;
The world will be thy widow and still weep
That thou no form of thee hast left behind,
When every private widow well may keep
By children's eyes, her husband's shape in mind:
Look! what an unthrift in the world doth spend
Shifts but his place, for still the world enjoys it;
But beauty's waste hath in the world an end,
And kept unused the user so destroys it.
No love toward others in that bosom sits
That on himself such murd'rous shame commits.
X (Sonnet 10)
For shame! deny that thou bear'st love to any,
Who for thy self art so unprovident.
Grant, if thou wilt, thou art belov'd of many,
But that thou none lov'st is most evident:
For thou art so possess'd with murderous hate,
That 'gainst thy self thou stick'st not to conspire,
Seeking that beauteous roof to ruinate
Which to repair should be thy chief desire.
O! change thy thought, that I may change my mind:
Shall hate be fairer lodg'd than gentle love?
Be, as thy presence is, gracious and kind,
Or to thyself at least kind-hearted prove:
Make thee another self for love of me,
That beauty still may live in thine or thee.
XI (Sonnet 11)
As fast as thou shalt wane, so fast thou grow'st,
In one of thine, from that which thou departest;
And that fresh blood which youngly thou bestow'st,
Thou mayst call thine when thou from youth convertest,
Herein lives wisdom, beauty, and increase;
Without this folly, age, and cold decay:
If all were minded so, the times should cease
And threescore year would make the world away.
Let those whom nature hath not made for store,
Harsh, featureless, and rude, barrenly perish:
Look, whom she best endow'd, she gave thee more;
Which bounteous gift thou shouldst in bounty cherish:
She carv'd thee for her seal, and meant thereby,
Thou shouldst print more, not let that copy die.
XII (Sonnet 12)
When I do count the clock that tells the time,
And see the brave day sunk in hideous night;
When I behold the violet past prime,
And sable curls, all silvered o'er with white;
When lofty trees I see barren of leaves,
Which erst from heat did canopy the herd,
And summer's green all girded up in sheaves,
Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard,
Then of thy beauty do I question make,
That thou among the wastes of time must go,
Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake
And die as fast as they see others grow;
And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defence
Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence.
XIII (Sonnet 13)
O! that you were your self; but, love you are
No longer yours, than you your self here live:
Against this coming end you should prepare,
And your sweet semblance to some other give:
So should that beauty which you hold in lease
Find no determination; then you were
Yourself again, after yourself's decease,
When your sweet issue your sweet form should bear.
Who lets so fair a house fall to decay,
Which husbandry in honour might uphold,
Against the stormy gusts of winter's day
And barren rage of death's eternal cold?
O! none but unthrifts. Dear my love, you know,
You had a father: let your son say so.
XIV (Sonnet 14)
Not from the stars do I my judgement pluck;
And yet methinks I have astronomy,
But not to tell of good or evil luck,
Of plagues, of dearths, or seasons' quality;
Nor can I fortune to brief minutes tell,
Pointing to each his thunder, rain and wind,
Or say with princes if it shall go well
By oft predict that I in heaven find:
But from thine eyes my knowledge I derive,
And constant stars in them I read such art
As 'Truth and beauty shall together thrive,
If from thyself, to store thou wouldst convert';
Or else of thee this I prognosticate:
'Thy end is truth's and beauty's doom and date.'
XV (Sonnet 15)
When I consider every thing that grows
Holds in perfection but a little moment,
That this huge stage presenteth nought but shows
Whereon the stars in secret influence comment;
When I perceive that men as plants increase,
Cheered and checked even by the self-same sky,
Vaunt in their youthful sap, at height decrease,
And wear their brave state out of memory;
Then the conceit of this inconstant stay
Sets you most rich in youth before my sight,
Where wasteful Time debateth with decay
To change your day of youth to sullied night,
And all in war with Time for love of you,
As he takes from you, I engraft you new.
XVI (Sonnet 16)
But wherefore do not you a mightier way
Make war upon this bloody tyrant, Time?
And fortify your self in your decay
With means more blessed than my barren rhyme?
Now stand you on the top of happy hours,
And many maiden gardens, yet unset,
With virtuous wish would bear you living flowers,
Much liker than your painted counterfeit:
So should the lines of life that life repair,
Which this, Time's pencil, or my pupil pen,
Neither in inward worth nor outward fair,
Can make you live your self in eyes of men.
To give away yourself, keeps yourself still,
And you must live, drawn by your own sweet skill.
XVII (Sonnet 17)
Who will believe my verse in time to come,
If it were fill'd with your most high deserts?
Though yet heaven knows it is but as a tomb
Which hides your life, and shows not half your parts.
If I could write the beauty of your eyes,
And in fresh numbers number all your graces,
The age to come would say 'This poet lies;
Such heavenly touches ne'er touch'd earthly faces.'
So should my papers, yellow'd with their age,
Be scorn'd, like old men of less truth than tongue,
And your true rights be term'd a poet's rage
And stretched metre of an antique song:
But were some child of yours alive that time,
You should live twice,--in it, and in my rhyme.
XVIII (Sonnet 18)
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimm'd:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
XIX (Sonnet 19)
Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion's paws,
And make the earth devour her own sweet brood;
Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger's jaws,
And burn the long-liv'd phoenix, in her blood;
Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleets,
And do whate'er thou wilt, swift-footed Time,
To the wide world and all her fading sweets;
But I forbid thee one most heinous crime:
O! carve not with thy hours my love's fair brow,
Nor draw no lines there with thine antique pen;
Him in thy course untainted do allow
For beauty's pattern to succeeding men.
Yet, do thy worst old Time: despite thy wrong,
My love shall in my verse ever live young.
XX (Sonnet 20)
A woman's face with nature's own hand painted,
Hast thou, the master mistress of my passion;
A woman's gentle heart, but not acquainted
With shifting change, as is false women's fashion:
An eye more bright than theirs, less false in rolling,
Gilding the object whereupon it gazeth;
A man in hue all 'hues' in his controlling,
Which steals men's eyes and women's souls amazeth.
And for a woman wert thou first created;
Till Nature, as she wrought thee, fell a-doting,
And by addition me of thee defeated,
By adding one thing to my purpose nothing.
But since she prick'd thee out for women's pleasure,
Mine be thy love and thy love's use their treasure.
Open Question: Selling Gifted Property?
My ailing father is leaving his six children a condo in Florida as inheritance. The condo will be sold for a division of the proceeds. Are we better off (tax wise) to wait until his passing and sell with his estate as seller or have the property transferred (gifted) to us now (for a nominal amount) and then we can sell it without estate problems?

My boyfriends sister had her first baby in Febuary. She lives out of state and she is coming up soon. We're having a shower for her up here, but I have no idea what to get for her/the baby (baby boy).

They are really rich, the baby already has everything it could possibly ever want, but I want to get something special. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Open Question: What would make a nice gift for a friend who is off to join the RAF?
We were at selection together and struck up a friendship, even though we haven't seen each other since as we live at opposite ends of the country. He passed and I failed, so I want to buy him something to wish him well on his journey- he goes off to basic at the end of the month.
What can one 22 year old lad buy another to fit an occassion? I want something that'll last, that perhaps I can engrave. I was thinking something along the lines of cufflinks, a St Christopher medallion or a Zippo (even though he is a non-smoker).
Your thoughts?
Thanks!

I was wondering if it's possible, say by creating an account on another computer, buying the gold on that account, and then buying an expensive item and gifting it quickly to my actual account, followed by selling it on on my original computer.
Surely there must be a method by which they lack the evidence to ban you?
Open Question: How do I tell her "I Love You" when it sees like she doesn't show any interest?
my observations and perceptions tell me that she doesn't want to be courted or she doesn't show any response like when i gave her roses on valentines.. or a b-day gift.. i was waitin for any sign but all at loss... instead she's showin signs of no interest... i may sound corny but y heart says GO but my brain says NO just a waste of time... =(
Open Question: Okay, I think I was misunderstood according to my answers am getting. So Lets clear this up!?
First, Thank you all for your Suggestions/Comments made so far. I have research this breed of dog and the info is limited on Shar Pei. Second, my daughter given the dog to me as a gift and she was told that this was a full pit. I have several dogs including a cat and never had a problem with training. I don't walk her as much as I like due to health reasons and NO, I do not have a fenced in yard. She has plenty of toys and flavor bones to play with. When I leave her it is no more than 2 to 4 hours for drs appts, at present I do not work and go no where else. My pets are my children, my life including this bad one! I am seeking step by step instructions that I can try right away. I know she is still a baby and this is the time correct the problems. She is rewarded for good behavior. Is it because of the mix breed? The Pit side I am use to, one of my other children is collie/pit mixed. I hope this clear up some of your questions and again thank U for all your answers

Open Question: How many of you can relate to this article I found on the internet?
Any thoughts??
http://clicks.robertgenn.com/child-within.php
"The childhood shows the man, as morning shows the day," said the British poet John Milton. For many of us, the choice to be creative was made early on, and it had a lot to do with how we interacted with others. Boston College professor of psychology Ellen Winner found a great many similarities in her studies of gifted children--difficulty making friends, scholastic boredom, and social problems. While often unconventional and nonconforming, her subjects seemed to become creative because of the introversion that sprang from teasing or isolation. "The more profound the gift, the more the isolation." she noted.
Winner determined that creative children begin to look at the world in unique ways. They travel at a different visual and cognitive speed. Some need little sleep and demand a high level of stimulation. Some become creative on many levels. Essentially "outsiders," they develop personal coping techniques that they carry with them into maturity. Many never recognize the powers they have developed.
There are a dozen or so characteristics of exceptionally creative persons. It's useful to note some of them and perhaps reflect on one's own childhood:
Visual perceptions that transcend everyday life
Heightened responses to natural surroundings
Sustained high standards of work ethic
Early presence of mentor(s)
Early formation of personal identity
Tendency to do things in unique ways
Preference to work autonomously
Defiance or suspicion of conventional thinking
Beside having the ability to make connections, think abstractly, and take risks, highly creative folks are also found to be precocious, sensitive, inventive, proactive, authentic, imaginative, curious and childlike.
Here are some thoughts for the highly creative: Unfortunately, in the natural jungle that runs through crib, kindergarten, college, and the great classroom of life, it's easy for you to get the idea that there's something wrong with you. There isn't. No matter what your upbringing, school experience, or the slings and arrows of life itself, you're just different. And you're okay. Really okay. Tremendously okay. And you're not alone.

Open Question: How to get out of "honoring" my step mother on mothers day?
I am 26 years old. My parents got a divorce when I was very young and my father remarried. I have never liked my step mother. She was an angry tyrant. When they got married she isolated me and my sisters away from my dads side of the family. When we did get to see them she referred to them as "my fan club" She was violent and demeaning. Yet, My 2 sisters and I were expected to introduce her as our mother. I have heard her get compliments for looking so great for having 3 kids...."thank you" would be her reply. As children my father would take us to get her mothers day cards and gifts...we would have a big dinner for her on mothers day...etc. I have always resented this and it makes me soooo angry. A couple months ago I had a jewelry party and both my mom and stepmother were there. We went around the room introducing our selves. My mom introduced herself as my mother. When it came to step moms turn, she introduced herself as my mom also. I was horrified.
I honestly hate this woman and god forbid anything ever happened to my father...but if it did I would never see her again. I have decided I am an adult and no one is going to bully me into recognizing her as my mother any more. Yet I know that my dad will be angry and it will cause drama in my family. I have thought about getting her a "stepmother" card for mothers day. She would be soooo offended. And would give me a "Whats this" look and I feel like telling her.. you ARE my STEP MOM...not my MOTHER!!! My dad will be angry but this is a big issue with me ...and my sisters. Is there a better way of handling this...or is this ok????
On top of all this...she and my dad adopted to girls. They refer to him to me as "their dad" They are super spoiled and Kelly (my step mom) doesn't like them to be around me and my sisters.
thank you everyone so far. This has been boiling up inside me for along time.
"motherof..." it sounds like you and she have a lot in common.

Open Question: Guys, what is the best gift you have ever been given by your significant other?
Open Question: Can I Sue Ex-Girlfriend?
I was dating this girl for a few months. On our first date, which was New Year's Eve, she ended up getting drunk, and wasn't able to drive home. I ended up paying for her hotel room, under the condition that she pay me back, to which she agreed. She never has.
The next morning, on our way to lunch, she crashed her car into a snow bank, and had to get the car towed out. I ended up paying the towing bill, which was $75. Again, she never has paid me back.
We ended up dating for ma few months, then broke up. She refuses to pay me back, saying they were gifts during the relationship.
How will a judge look at this? I think, since it was a first date, a judge will decided that it can't clearly be a gift. If there are any lawyers or judges on here, please give me a good answer.
Thanks.
I actually have a lot of this in writing from chat transcripts in which I asked her to pay me back, and she said she would.
The amount she owes is about $305.
