  • Resolved Question: I am a guy and have chronic daily migraines for the past 5 years. I need relief from the pain. Please help !!!
Some background, I have had headaches or migraines since I was a kid (I'm 32 now) over time they started getting worse in intensety and more frequent. I have had several MRI's but they come back fine. I have tried about 20 different preventative meds. I am on Topamax and Depakote daily right now. For pain I take toradol shots for the less severe and for the more severe headaches I take Fioricet w/ codeine. I don't take the pain medication to much during the week because I don't want to get rebound headaches or have my body get used to the medication. I have tried the headache diets, got extra sleep, less sleep, excercised more, then less, lost weight, had blood work done. I am making sure to give everything a chance to work but they don't. Please anyone out there help me with any ideas you may have!!!!!

  • Voting Question: What can be done about daily headaches?
I have tried the following with no results... chiropractors accupuncture all the prescription meds (fioricet, topamax, anti-depressants, etc) Kava root extract massage therapy I was even hospitalized to "break the headache cycle" and had some relief with the topamax, but had to stop using because it made me sick. The best way I can describe my headaches is comparing it to being sea sick. I feel nauseas behind my eyes and in temples. I currently take no medications...anything else you recommend? have also seen an optometrist

  • Resolved Question: Migraine going on its fourth day?
I went to urgent care yesterday where they gave me a shot of demerol and phernergan with a prescription for Fioricet®. I woke up this morning and I still have the migraine even with taking the Fioricet®. Should I go back? It's as bad as its early stages. I'm typing with my eyes shut and feel like I'm gonna puke. I tried Imitrex the first day and it didn't help :/
  • Resolved Question: Migraine came back?
I went to Urgent Care today because I have had a Migraine that has lasted three days (and I normally don't get them) I got a shot of 100 mg Demoral with phenergan, was prescribed Fioricet® and told to sleep it off and relax. When I woke up (after the shot wore off) the Migraine was back and I took the Fioricet® that gave little relief. Should I go back to the Urgent Care and get another shot? Why didn't it go away?

tylenol pm? I have checked and checked and none of the drug interaction checkers online are helping me answer this... so I'm hoping someone on here is a nurse or doctor or pharmacist and can answer this question. And also can someone tell me what exactly the fioricet will help with... they gave it to me when I had my spinal tap (about 7 months ago), but I have cramps super bad now and that is my reason for wanting to take it. Thank you so much. thank you sooo much doober!!!
  • Resolved Question: Help! I have blurred vision!?
I am on my second day on Neurontin for pinched nerves and carpal tunnel and Fioricet for headaches. Is it normal to have a slight blurred vision (like the lights on the streets looks a bit blurry). Will this go away in a few days or a couple weeks? Do I keep taking the medication?
  • Voting Question: Ear infection or headache?
Went to dr today and she said that i have an ear infection which was accompanied by stabbing headache on top of my head and also in my temples. My face and sinus hurt too? She put me on antibiotics along with Fioricet. Fioricent helps a little? I've already taken 2 doses and the headache and face pain is still there. Also, can ear infection with fever do this to your head? Give you pain?
  • Resolved Question: MJ/TMD and Teeth Pain....Common?
I have been recently diagnosed with TMD/TMJ due to a lifetime of grinding and clenching. On top of that I had a recent root canal done and I am wearing a temporary crown. The pain from the tooth has caused me to grind up against the temp crown tooth and that whole area of teeth has been experiencing nerve pain, in on, and around the teeth, as well as the jaw and ear, all nerve-type pain. I currently take 600-800mg of Advil (Ibuprofen) and 1/2 - 1 whole Fioricet for the pain. (I ran out of Vicodin for the tooth canal.) I have not been in such sharp pain in a really long time, and I wanted to know if this nerve type of pain was a common type of pain for TMJ disorders? Responding to Floyd: Thanks for bringing up an excellent point: the emotional angle. I am most definitley getting down to the root of my problems, and there have been many. I am and have been in therapy for a while, and I am making efforts to get myself straightened out. For what its worth this is something that my TMJ/TMD Dr (specialist in TMJ disorders specifically) has and will continue to address. My first visit I was asked if I was in therapy or if I would consider going into therapy for my treatment, so he definitly is addressing things from all the angles. Thank you though for the insight. Really what I am asking about is the kinds of pain with TMJ/TMD.

  • Resolved Question: Anyone had a BAD reaction to Elavil or Amitriptyline?
My son was prescribed Elavil (generic name Amitryptilene) to control on-going headaches. He took 25 mg. daily for approximately three weeks with no relief. He seemed more irritable on the medicine but we thought it may be irritability due to the headaches. The doctor then increased his dosage to 50 mg. daily on 3/11/08 and added a dosage of Fioricet (Butalbital). On the afternoon of 3/12, he seemed overly energetic. He got into a minor arguement with his brother and left home, saying he was running away from home. I went to pick him up and he began to physically attack me. His brother and I forced him into the vehicle for his own safety. As we drove home, he tried to open the door and jump out of the car. What then followed was three hours of living hell. He was uncontrollable and was in a fit of rage. He found a knife and said he was going to kill everyone in their sleep. He attacked anyone who tried to talk to him and was having hallucinations. We got him to the Emergency Room and he had finally calmed down. He didn't remember much about what had happened and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for observation. This behavior was completely out of character for my son. He is a gentle child who never gets angry for more than 10 minutes. On this medicine he was extremely agressive. I have contacted the manufacturer as well as the FDA. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
  • Resolved Question: Did Lyrica take away your fibromyalgia pain completely?
I have been taking 300mgs a day for several weeks, and it has taken away all but my lower back pain. My muscles are still stiff, and this one feels like it just shouldn't be working. Hurts constantly. I take 1 to 1.5 Tramadol and 2-4 Ibuprofen together for it, and it still hurts. Just wondered if I'm still feeling a bit of the Fibro or something new. She gave me Fioricet to take with my migraine meds and I wonder if that would be more effective. Will be going to the doc soon, but not soon enough! Thanks in advance.

  • Voting Question: What meds can I take for migraines while breastfeeding?
I have had migraines all of my life. My aunt had them as well. I had them much more frequently while pregnant with my two sons (one almost 3 & one 8 months). Currently I am still breastfeeding my 8 month old and I want to continue as long as possible. Here for the past few months I have been having chronic migraines (sometimes 3-4 per week). I went to my family physician & he told me there was nothing I could take while breastfeeding other than Tylenol. I talked to my OB & he prescribed me Fioricet (no codeine). He refilled it twice & when I asked for the one with the narcotic in it he refered me back to my family doctor & said he would rather he help me. I have an appointment with a neurologist on May 30th (this is the earliest they can get me in). What can I do in the meantime? There has to be something that can help without me having to quit b/f. These headaches are taking over my life.
  • Resolved Question: Fioricet ... Any Success?
I'm 12w 4d pregant, and have been having HORRIBLE migraines AT LEAST 3 times a week, and they usually last at least 24 hours, sometimes longer. I spoke with my doctor about this yesterday and he prescribed me Fioricet to hopefully help me with it. Just wondering if anyone has had any success with taking these for headaches? Doc said that sometimes they help patients and sometimes they will make it worse. He said we had 2 more options if this drug is not successful. Anyone taken them? What was the outcome for you? Please note: I'm NOT asking if they are safe to take during pregnancy... Obviously my doctor wouldn't have prescribed them if they could be harmful =)
  • Voting Question: this days i am doing aloy of stuiped stuff and one of it i take high dose of fioricet, can i get addicted?
  • Resolved Question: How do I get myself off of narcotic pain pills? Please read !!!!?
I was in bad accident in 2001, A car hit my motorcycle and it left me pretty messed up. I broke my arm, fractured my pelvis, messed up my back and left me with constant headaches. My arm and pelvis healed. But my back problems and headaches are chronic. My doctor has had me on serveral different narcotic pain pills since then. I still have the headaches and my back hurts like heck every day. But my friend says that the pain pills are probably not working any more and that I am addicted to them. How can I get off of them? Every time I try not taking them I not only hurt, but I get sick to my stomach, and just generally feel like I would rather die. Right now I am on Lortab, Darvocet & Fioricet. But I have been on several other pain pills over the last 6 years. Can some one help? I have tried to get my doctor to put me in a rehab program but he says I need the Pain pills and that rehab will leave me worse off. Thanks for your help! Thank You!
  • Resolved Question: Long Term Use of Only Certain Prescribed Pain Relievers?
I have a relative who is uninsured and takes fiorciet for migraines and ultram for back pain. She says that these are the only medicines that work for her. She has tried going to doctors, hospitals, free clinics etc. and trying ibuprofen, aspirin and all sorts of other things both prescription and otc. The doctors keep giving her the run around since she has no insurance and keep saying that nothing shows up on the blood tests. She wants me to buy her some fioricet and ultram (with a prescription of course). She got a doctor to write her prescriptions for it. I am concerned that long term use of this medicine can mess her body up. I am also wondering why "nothing else works" for her. Should I buy the meds? Money is no issue...I just don't want to supply something that is not helping her get to the root of things and may be hurting her in the long run. Please give me some good nonjudgemental advice. 10 pts will be given. Thanks. The relative is 46 years old almost 47. I am concerned that this doctor she has found to prescribe for her is not caring about her because she is uninsured and cannot pay him a lot and is just writing her pills to shut her up. Also, if she should come off of the fioricet and ultram, what are good pain medicines she can suggest to the doctor for her to try? She has had migraines since childhood off and on. The back pain started about 6 years ago and is getting no better, if not it may be getting a little worse.
  • Resolved Question: Anyone been prescribed/taken a migraine med AKA Esgic or Fioricet while pregnant?
I suffer from migraine headaches. During my 1st trimester I didn't take anything for them, during the 2nd I was prescribed butal/apap/caff plus tab wsw AKA Esgic and Fioricet. I never took them b/c the headache was too bad to go to pharmacy. Now in the 3rd trimester I get them once a week. Tempted to take the meds, but worried about pregnancy. My OB is the doc that wrote the script, so he clearly knows about drugs and pregnancy, but I cant find too much info besides "consult your doc" and thats obviously common sense with all medications while pregnant. He's out of the office until Tuesday (early Sun now) so I either need to find a pharamsist on call or go into L&D and speak to the doc there. Thought I'd ask here first if anyone has experienced this or taken this med while pregnant. Thanks I suffer from migraine headaches. • Resolved Question: when taking fioricet....?
Do you get really happy and talkative and nice and hyper and just cant sit still... but then when it wears off your headache comes back right away, and then you get really depressed about the smallest things and get really cranky and rude for no reason? Ive been taking fioricet for about 4 1/2 years now. I used to take them everyday for abou 6 months, then i stopped taking them for a while and just dealt with my headaches because I needed the fioricet to get through the day. Than I started taking them when ever I needed them. Now Im back to taking them everyday... ALL DAY long. Its getting bad. I need them to not get sad/depressed/cranky. This has been happening for a while, but we just put 2 and 2 together. Im 17 almost 18 if that matters. And I know taking them all day everday is no good. I have a doctors appt. tomorrow for this because both me and my mom are worried about this.
  • Resolved Question: What's wrong with doctors?
I've had bad headaches for about 4-5 years now.I've had the same doctor for 3 of those years.Everytime I have an appointment (about once a month) I complain of the headaches. They're migraines and they do interfere with my every day life.I've tried alot of painkillers and whle they dull the pain it never really goes away.Where doI get these painkillers? From people I know.I'm an adult, not a teenager seeking to get high.My doctor refuses to give me anything but 800mg ibuprofen. This doesn't work at all.Maybe because I've been taking it so long.I recently had to go to the ER yet again for a headache that was affecting my vision. The ER doctor gave me Fioricet. It helped so much and didn't make me feel high.So at my last visit I asked for a prescription of it.He refused to give me more than 10 because it's "addictive".I'd rather be addicted than suffer from migraines all the time. He's was adament about that but freely gives me Soma to help with back pain and Prozac for depression. Those can be addictive too.Do I have to wait until I'm older with even more health problems to get some help?Or maybe I should die first so he'll know I'm not lying. He won't give me a referel for an MRI or CAT scan. And I can't change doctors because I'm on medi-cal and I can't wait that long to see a doctor.(It takes forever).I want to file a report against him but don't know if I have just cause. He's so quick to prescribe anything else. But nothing I say or do can get him to help with the headaches.Anti-inflamatories do not work for me.I' at a loss as what to do here. I've had my eyes checked.Perfect vision. No changes. It's scary for me because 2 of my aunts have had brain aneurysms and died because of it.I've also had a head injury. Well Nonya I AM in fact having migraines and while painkillers don't take away all the pain they do help a little. They make it mostly tolerable anyway. I can't take things like Imitrex. They make me sick and upset my ulcer. What I want everyone to understand here is that taking painkillers is NOT an enjoyable experience for me.I don't seek to get high from them.I just want the migraines to go away.Isn't the doctor's job to help?I've asked at least 5 times for an MRI or CAT scan becasue I know regular headaches are not normal. They won't give me one.I want help.I'd rather them go away than have to bum painkillers off people I know for the rest of my life. This is no way to live and it's taking time from my life. How in the hell do you know I don't have a medical problem? And for your information I get plenty of exercise.I have a 2 year old. There is NO laying around being a "useless" woman for me. There's no need to be a jerk about this.
  • Resolved Question: Can this breakthrough bleeding mean I am ovulating?
I have read on MANY sites that Fioricet interacts with Yasmin. I had no clue until now. I started having breakthrough bleeding (taking pill PERFECTLY for 4 months), so that is why I looked up the interaction. I was on antibiotics for a kidney infection and got my period 2 days early, so I stopped the pills since I only had 2 days left. My LMP was around December 15th. I started my new pack on the 20th so that I could get my body on track from having an early period. I had a normal period. It wasn't lighter than usual or anything. I have been taking Fioricet for cluster headaches for 2 weeks and just finished the prescription on Thursday. Last night, I started spotting and still am. It picked up slightly, but not like a normal period. I guess my question is, how likely is it to get pregnant in this situation? Does breakthrough bleeding decrease the chance that I am ovulating? I read somewhere that medications containing butalbital, increase the chances of pregnancy on birthcontrol by 25!! Seems like an aweful lot huh!? I am nervous about this! My fiance and I had an "alone" night last night, which makes me more nervous. Had I known about this interaction, we would have used a back-up method! The Dr knew I was on birth control and never said a thing about an interaction! I knew to be careful about the antibiotic, but no idea about this! Thanks for anything you can offer! Personal experiences, advice, ANYTHING will be great!
  • Resolved Question: Esgic-Plus or Fioricet compared to Axocet (same drug without the caffeine)?
While I was pregnant, I had bad migraines that wasn't responding to many medicines. After trying several things, my ob doctor and I found that Axocet (butabilbital with acetaminophen) worked the best for me. Ever after I've had my baby, I've continued to take this medicine when I get a bad headache (which, thank god is less frequent then when I was pregnant!) My question is, does the esgic-plus or fioricet work better than the axocet at relieving the headache? I wasn't originally given the caffeine version due to being pregnant. Now that I'm not pregnant, I was considering asking the doctor about the with caffeine version when I go to get my next refill. Does the caffeine version make it kick in faster? Does it feel stronger? Typically, I don't feel any kind of drowsy or dopey effects like I've heard some report. If I have a REAL bad headache and take 2 instead of 1, I'll feel light-headed, but thats it. Any help or personal experience would be appreciated!
  • Resolved Question: What can I take together with fioricet (butalbital) to enhance or prolong its euphoric effects?
Hey medical professional, you misspelled butalbital and by the way it's the other ingredient in Fioricet that is hepatotoxic, the acetaminophen. Thanks for your efforts though.

  • Resolved Question: I am pregnant 17 weeks and have really bad depression/anxiety and terrible migraines all the time. My doctor?
prescribed 40 mgs prozac and 50 mg fioricets as needed for bad migraines. Do you think this is safe? I wouldn't take it if my condition wasn't so severe. Im really concerned about the fioricet though. It was just prescribed today. My headaches will last for days though sometimes and i've tried tylenol. Anyone had experience with these medications while pregnant?
  • Resolved Question: Fioricet during pregnancy for migraines?
My OB/GYN has prescribed this for me, so please, no "ask your doctor" answers. I'm just curious if anyone else has taken it and, mostly, if it helped. (I'm 17 weeks/ 6 days pregnant and have suffered migraines for the last 2 years. The only thing that has ever helped is Maxalt- which I can't take while pregnant.)
  • Resolved Question: Painkillers for Daily Migraine?
I have dealt with Migraines my whole life.. I have been free of them for about a year but they are back on an almost daily basis. The triptans (imitrex etc) do not work, I am taking Inderol for prevention but it has not helped yet. I need something to help the pain. I have a high tolerance for narcotics so Vicodin etc do not work except in really high doses. Fioricet helps a tiny tiny bit, is there something like Fioricet but stronger? Its just becoming unbearable at this point, I can't function normally and I am supposed to be going away next week and I fear I will have to cancel my trip. My doctor said he would prescribe me painkillers for the trip so I can go but I am not sure what to ask for. Oxycontin helps a little bit but it makes me very anxious so I don't like taking it. Any advice?? Thanks.
  • Resolved Question: Severe Migraine's all summer long?
I seem to get headaches alot all year round but I get bad migraines during the summer. They can last days upon days long. It got so bad once I had to go to the ER. He did a CT scan on me and found nothing. He gave me fioricet and they seem to ease up the pain a little but not by much. I dont want to keep having to take pain killers to get rid of the pain. I remember ever since I was little getting headaches. It seems the hotter my body temp is the more my head hurts and usually a cold rag on the back of my neck eases up the pain a little also.. What could be the problem?
  • Resolved Question: I took a prescrption Fioricet this AM. Will Butalbital show in drug screen with code "35105N SAP 5-50 W/NIT"?
  • Resolved Question: Pregnancy Headache Prescriptions ?
Ive been getting migraines off and on since I got pregnant, but ive had this migraine since tuesday night and its driving me crazy. Tylenol and Ibuprofen do not work anymore, so I called my doctor yesterday and he prescribed Fioricet. Has anyone else takin this? So i take it, and it only dulls my migraine to a headache, then my migraine comes back 2 hours later plus im more nauseous and I feel jittery. I looked it up online and it has caffeine in it which I REALLY do not want. This whole thing is starting to affect my work and majorly my sleep. Anybody have suggestions? Should I contact my doctor again? Cuz somtimes I feel like maybe im just being a wuss and I dont want to bother him again :( Additional Note: The doctor said it just fine for me to take Ibuprofen. I drink enough water that I pee every 30 min. And for some reason anything cold on my head makes it hurt more. Ive tried heat also, and it makes my body more comfortable, but not my head.

  • Resolved Question: Any ideas on how to treat migraines? Non medicinal please!?
I have had chronic migraines for the past 4 years. I will have one at least once a month but recently they have been more frequent.....sometimes once a week. I have taken SO many prescription meds.....Midrin, Imitrex, and even gotten shots of Tordol. No matter what I take I still get the migraines. Fioricet is the only thing that worked, but it will be 3 weeks before I can get into my doctor. Any ideas on how to treat my migraines without a prescription? Tylenol and Advil don't work. I have a 3 year old, a 6 month old, and a puppy and so they might be stress related. Any advice will work wonders. Thanks!
