  • Resolved Question: A question about Ativan, Klonopin, and Xanax?
A question about Ativan, Klonopin, and Xanax? I know they are all in the same catagory BUT why would they make 3 different kinds of drugs if they don't differ a little bit? My problem is that I have something called neuroborriolis which means I've had undiagnosed Lyme Disease too long to the point where it's spread throughout my body and a single dose of doxycycline doesn't work. I've been rxd Oxycontin, Morphine, Tramadol, anything for my neurological pain. The ONLY thing that helps are the benzo catagory. First question: Why are these the only drugs that take away my pain. I've had this condition so long, I'm building up a HUGE tolerance to xanax 2mg. I can't mention how much I have to take to make a dent in the pain, when in the beginning the rxd dose would do it? Can someone give me some kind of a scientific or even a personal answer as to why these meds help me? 2nd question:What if I were to alternate all 3, would that still build such a strong tolerance? I don't want to take that many. I am NOT a drug addict whatsoever * 12 minutes ago * - 3 days left to answer. Additional Details 8 minutes ago I just want to be out of pain. Is there anything out there that would bring out more of the effects of the xanax? I tried grapefruit juice and that was a joke. But I'm going to see a LLMD (Lyme Literate Doctor) this month to see if he can cure me of this terrible illness. It might take a year, two, or five. Those benzos are already losing their effect. Can I alternate xanax, Klonopin, and valium without building up such a stong tolerance. I know what most will say. Those things are addictive. But guess what, I'll wean down when I start feeling better. One battle at a time you know? I have a 2 year old son and I can barely hug him, it hurts so bad for anyone to touch me. Even sounds hurt. What do you think? I've tried Lyrica - maximum dose, Neurontin, and now I'm on Cymbalta and have been for a while, 60 mg twice a day.

What do you think? To the person that suggested exercise: I am not using these meds for your typical anxiety. I have Chronic Lyme Disease which means that a tick bit me and it wasn't caught soon enough, therefore the bacteria has spread to my brain, causing SEVERE neurological problems. And yes, these meds take away the neuro pain. I get stabbing burning pains in my neck constantly which almost brings me to tears. These meds help with Chronic Lyme Disease with neurological involvement. Everything hurts, my skin, my kids' hugs, and yes, EVEN EXERCISE. There is no way in hell that I could ever exercise with the pain I'm in. Pain killers don't effect me, even the strongest ones possible, because they don't involve the central nervous system like the benzos do. The benzo catagory calms my nerves/neuro system enough to get through the day. I remember when my mom was dianosed with Hep C. My dad told her she just needed to "sweat it out". What a jerky thing to say by him. This isn't anxiety that I have.
  • Resolved Question: Tramadol/ anyone taken it/good or bad effects?
Brother was prescribed this for pain but we found out there are very bad side effects and its addictive. Anyone with advice, and is this similar to oxycodone? Thanks is this also called ultram?
  • Resolved Question: Why does Tramadol help with my withdrawls if it's not a narcotic?
I've been taking up to eight Loratabs a day--exactly what my doctor has ordered. He also has given me Tramadol for my pain so that I can take that when and if I need to. I have come quite dependent on my Loratab. When I am waiting for my perscirption to be filled--sometimes it takes a few days, I usually take the Tramadol during that time. If Tramadol is not a narcotic, why does it help with my withdrawls from the Loratab? Is Tramadol addictive?
  • Resolved Question: has anyone ever been addicted to tramadol?
i was prescribed tramadol and after 4 years i was taking 30-35 a day, its been a month since i have had any and i still have chills, coldsweats, and i can't sleep but my deal is how much longer can withdrawals last. opiates like oxycodone and hydrocodone don't last but a few days and the joke is doctors, pharmacist are still saying its not physicaly addictive!!! what a joke. the fda won't make it a controlled substance cause too many doctors are writing large amounts of ultram/ tramadol. i was getting 900 pills every 25 days for 4 years. will the fda ever do anything??? no cause its about money!!
  • Resolved Question: Stop taking Tramadol?
I have been taking Tramadol for about 2 years now, It was prescribed for some slipped discs and muscle spasms. I am prescriped 150mg 3 times per day, so I take 3 50mg pills at a time. I have ran out before and not had a refill left and my doctors office was closed, after about 3-4 hours of a missed dose I had the worst feelings I have ever felt-sweating, anxiety, sleeplessness, it felt like my skin was crawling and I had uncontrolable yawning which every time I did I felt tingleing all over my body, I was willing to do anything to get a pill. I have taken other pain releivers as well and came off them very easily, this is by far the most memorable experience ive ever had, and I was told it wasnt addictive. This is a very higly addictive non-narcotic pain reilever, I want to come off of it but never, ever, want to feel like that again. What can I do??? I am at the point now, it doesnt releive pain anymore, I need it just to feel normal. Please help.
  • Voting Question: Is Tramadol addicting? My doc switched me over to Tramadol from Vicodin?
But I heard that Tramadol can be just as addictive as Vicodin. but without the Euphoric affect. My question is... Whats the point the point for Doc's to throw more meds at you if they are just as addictive, without the high (euphoric affect) you get from Vicodin, that actually really does help severe pain, with reacting with receptors to your brain that makes you (think) you don't have pain. Is it just to watch their asses, and not care about the patients needs?? I think so. Any comments??
  • Resolved Question: Something has to been done about Tramadol?
My sister was taking this prescribed for 3 years. She has tried to quit off and on the whole three years and it was killing her. She always started taking it again just so she could take care of and be with her daughters. She was a single mother and 3 years ago she had a severe back injury, they gave her that, Her first question was Is this addictive and they said no. Now my sister is dead. She killed herself two weeks ago,she had been off for 4 weeks and 5 days,I was by her side the whole time and no one could even touch her without causing severe pain, she couldn't take the idea of her kids seeing her like that, she thought it would never end, i was gone for 3 hours and never saw her alive again there was a letter to her daughters, the F.D.A and myself. My sister was 25 years old and never had a problem with anything and never abused anything. She was lied to, we all were and now my sister is gone. What do I do about this. I've sent the letter nothing back yet
  • Resolved Question: Anybody experiencing symptoms withdrawing from Tramadol (Ultram)?
I have an avulsion injury to my thumb....my thumb went to far back playing softball and it tore the tendon. It was "supposingly" corrected by the doctor, but because I still have pain I am going to get a second opinion. However, I have been talking tramadol for a year because I was told and I see that anti-inflammatories do not help. (its not a inflammatory condition). My doctor said it wasn't addictive...yet I have tried to come off of it and had hellish nights of body crawls, sweating, sleep-wake cycles, and during the day i'm depressed, slow, and very alert. I feel disconnected. I knew this was an opiod binder but I just found out it will increase serotonin...so no wonder this stuff can be addictive. So when I try to come off of it I still have pain...and my doctor isn't getting it....what a mess! Anybody have this issue? I know that it is taken for certain rhematoid issues... I think a study needs to be done on this...becuase I have taken Codeine!! and not been addicted (Lortab at a time for pain before a root canal surgery was done) Joni Tramadol is NOT narcotic by definition. It is 10Xs less than Codeine. Many doctors will give tramadol in place of a narcotic drug...however, i think that if the numbers of addictiveness are high it should be placed in the narcotic family. 50 mg 3 times a day as needed. I take 200-up to 300 mg a day...very sad. I see it all play out in front of me.
  • Resolved Question: Medical Professionals: Why are so many opioid medications that are used elsewhere, unavailable in the USA?
There are a wide range of low-medium strength opioids like Hydrocodone, Tramadol (which IS an opioid) etc. but when it comes to high-potency ones, many efficacious opioids were once in use in the US but for some reason taken off and never used again. (These other opioids are no more or less addictive than the ones currently available and there are situations where it may be more efficacious to use say Dihydromorphine instead of Morphine for example) Examples: Ketobemidone Dihydromorphine and Dihydrocodeine Nicomorphine, nicocodeine and nicodicodine Desomorphine Hydrocodone-enol-acetate / Acedicon Anileridine Tilidine and many more.... (Despite the potency of say Oxymorphone, Dihydromorphine is actually more efficacious at treating pain than any of the other commonly used phenanthrenes) In your opinion, why is this the case? Many of these opioids have been around since the 1940s and before, and many are in use in EU and elsewhere. Another example would be Azidomorphine. Even though it is around 40 times more potent than Morphine, the addictive potential is actually less. Sehr_Klug: That is true, but then again the abuse potential and actual reports of abuse for some of these drugs are no higher than the ones that are already on the market (Morphine, Hydromorphone, Fentanyl etc) In addition, some of these meds have a lower addictive potential (since they have less rewarding properties) Aiden: It's sad the way things are moving. I know there was a group of people lobbying for the use of dihydromorphine in the US but not sure what happened in the end. dihydromorphine's profile is actually closer to heroin and M6G than morphine but it has less re-inforcing properties making it a better choice for pain relief in many situations. Ruth: That is so true. Sad but true. Methadone is an excellent, efficacious analgesic, but unfortunately associated with heroin users. Truly a pity given its unique profile (mu-agonist and NMDA-antagonist). The only other opioid with this profile is Ketobemidone but unfortunately it too was pulled off the US market in the 60s or 70s for reasons unknown (it is no more addictive than Morphine but the dose required for euphoria is way higher than the dose required for analgesia unlike Morphine, where low analgesic doses still produce euphoria) Scott: My dear friend, you have hit the nail right on the spot! I truly wish politics would be kept far far away from science (and religion). Thank you for sharing this with me. It was very enlightening! :)
  • Resolved Question: How can Ultram become a controlled substance when chemically there are no narcotic ingredients?
Yes, it is addictive in some individuals, making the FDA panicky. but i would think the manufacturers of Ultram and tramadol would want to keep it uncontrolled - as Monty Python once complained - "Our sales would plummet!" Not to mention the lifetime users (12 years) who rely on it, and whose GP is not allowed to prescribe controlled substances. This is a terrifying prospect.
  • Resolved Question: Hydrocodone Withdrawal...???
I have been taking hydrocodone on and off for almost a year (because of a surgery which I had done for the 2nd time in February). I have stopped taking them before and had the withdrawals but this time I tried to 'taper' but only for 2-3 days since I was running out of pills and didn't get more. I have two left. It has been three days since I stopped. I was wondering if I take like half a pill before I go to bed to help me sleep, will it make the withdrawals worse the next day? I was taking about 3 10/500 mg/day before but my withdrawals aren't that bad. Just the hot/cold sweats, and the not sleeping is what is killing me! I'm just not sure if I take a little bit now, will it set me back as far as my 'getting over' the withdrawal part. Also I have Tramadol and Flexeril, I know Flexeril will help me sleep, it's a muscle relaxer...I think...but I don't want to take anything else that is addictive or opiate. Thanks! =]

I am very nervous about this, because I hear that soboxen is almost the same thing as methadone, and I know that methadone is very addictive. I dont want to go from one addictive drug to another. • Resolved Question: Are these pain pills that addictive?
Tramadol HCL 50mg tab Mylan. I only take two a day, two at the same time, but not every day, and only for pain. Just yesterday I took some after not having taken any in about 2-3 weeks, but I was really wanting them. I took them yesterday for minor pain, and the high I got was really intense. It came and went too. The high would be intense, then lessen alittle, then back to how it was. This has only happened the last two times I've taken them. It never happened before. I really enjoy the euphoria it brings, and it keeps from feeling depressed and suicidal, but I'm afraid of becoming addicted, and I think I may already be. I don't want to go to a hospital and stay for a few weeks either, that's just out of the question
  • Resolved Question: Safe to stop taking tramadol cold turkey?
I have been taking Tramadol pills(50 mg) twice a day two times a day (on a normal day). I get mild to moderate pain from having chronic pancreatitis. I stopped taking it over 12 hours ago and I feel like CRAP! I am having anxiety and can't sleepy and all kids of nasty side effects. I don't want to be on this stuff anymore because it is VERY ADDICTIVE!!! My doctor acted like it wasn't. I don't want it anymore. Is there anything out there that is better than just taking tylenol, but isn't so much addictive?? How long will I feel like garbage and what can i do to make it bearable?? I appreciate all the help I can get.
  • Resolved Question: Can tramadol worsen depression??
I've been given tramadol for severe joint pains and am also taking fluoxetine for depression. I only take the tramadol when I absolutely have to because I know it's very addictive, and always take the minimum dose needed. However, I've noticed that my mood is taking a definite nose-dive since I've started the tramadol, but I can't find any definite information on wether it worsens depression or not, does anyone know/experienced similar effects?? I also have great trouble sleeping on the days that I do take tramadol. Any advice/experiences most appreciated.
  • Resolved Question: Can Tramadol cause a cough?
I began taking tramadol about 2 weeks ago, 50-150 mg a day due to pain from a old injury. I requested something less addictive than Oxycontin which gave me horrible withdrawls in the past. Within a week I had a cough, which has turned into a cough/flu like symptoms. I have searched on Web MD and it seems tramadol is perscribed to stop coughing, but also list flu symptoms as a side effect that is really dangerous. Is the flu and now severe cough possible caused by the drug? Or am I just sick? My coughing does subside when I take the drug... just want to make sure I am not hurting myself, and rather than pay weekend emergency room rates I thought I would ask you lovely people. Doctors advice wanted, but any knowledgeable advice appreciated.
  • Resolved Question: What should I do about Ultram (Tramadol) addiction?
I have extreme pain in my face due to TMJ and tension headaches and OTC pain relievers just arent strong enough. I have been prescribed many strong pain meds (which have been effective) such as Vicodin, Percocet, Percodan, etc. I have always been afraid of addiction to these as I need them long-term and not just a week or so. So, I have been taking Tramadol for quite some time. It is usually effective, and for the longest time I felt OK about taking this as I was told it is not addictive. Well...I ran out once and found that it definately is!! What do you think I should do?? I need SOMETHING for the pain as it is just unbearable...are there any real alternatives?? I take about 15-20 50mg tablets a day. Please help!!

  • Resolved Question: is tramadol 50mg addictive?
  • Resolved Question: does the NHS dictate policy re prescriptions?
eg. Friend's Granny - nitrazepam stopped. Spent 2 years on anti-hypertensive drugs (4 different) feeling dreadful. Now sleeping badly, but scared to visit GP as not willing to take more BP drugs. Just hopes if she has a heart attack or stroke it's a big one! eg. Tramadol, given for severe headaches following neurosurgery years ago - quantity now reduced. Also refusing anti-hypertensives. Just had mastectomy. Scared of inadequate pain relief. Neither is suicidal. Both drugs ? addictive, but for someone over 70 & under medical supervision does it matter? Neighbour just died - massive stroke. Last few years miserable - anti-hypertensives again. Was it worth it? It's like medicines by rote. don't these people count as individuals?

  • Resolved Question: How do recovering heroin addicts manage pain?
In a chronic pain situation how can an addict be expected to cope without opiates? Is there any medication with the strength of an opiate that is non narcotic or addictive?(Tramadol is an opiate, just synthetic) I think it is inhumane to force a recovering addict to live with pain (parole officers). But taking these meds seriously compromises recovery! The person of whom I am speaking has been in recovery (sober) for over 5 years. The pain I am refering to is accute pain due to a severe injury, that will eventually heal, not a chronic pain. This is not a methadone situation. This is a recovered addict!!!
  • Resolved Question: I'm going cold turkey off of tramadol, any tips that can help me?
Tramadol is a non narcotic but very addictive prescription pain reliever. I tried weaning myself but my psychological dependence on the drug gets in my way. Do you have any advice or tips that might lessen the withdrawal or just make it a little easier? I'm taking 2 50mg pills twice a day, how long until the worst part of the withdrawal is over ad how long until i should feel normal again?
  • Resolved Question: How can i use medicine to treat my addiction to tramadol?
For those of you that think tramadol is not addictive, thats BS! It is addictive and i am experienceing it first hand. I have been trying to wean myself off of it for the last 6 months with no improvement because when i lower my dose i have severe mood swings and become very angry and my energy levels are depleted, and i cant be a good mother to my 1 year old. When i PMS the bad symptoms get even worse so i increase my dose and im fine, but that puts me back right where i started. So now im looking into another way, medication. Will a doctor give me medication for this, what kind, and how can i take it without becoming addicted to it? Im determined to live a drug free life and the day im free of this addiction will be one of the best days of my life.

  • Resolved Question: Who takes Tramadol for fibromyalgia and find it helpful? Does some people find it addictive?
Is the recommended dose 100 mg every 4-6 hours and how much tylenol does one tablet contain?
  • Resolved Question: fibromyalgia sufferer's ...Anyone have a medication that helps their symptoms?
I have been diagnosed with FMS since2004, and still hav eyet to find anyhthing that helps releive symptoms. I have tried A few different antidepressants that are supposed to help fix the chemical imbalances to correct the sleeping patterns that are needed to heal the muscles from a hard days work. i have tried Effexor, Effexor XR, Wellbutrin, and for the pain i have tried Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Tylenol, Vicodin, and Tramadol (ultram). The Vicodin worked but Doc's don't like prescribing it due to its addictive nature. The Ultram is okay, but doesn't take it away completley, and it is also a "black box drug" ,meaning that they don't know what the long term affects are yet. Has anyone else that has Fibro found a medicine not already listed that they would reccomend? Desperate for some releif! Thanks for your advice !

  • Resolved Question: Can a dog get addicted to Tramadol in 4 days?
My 11 yr old Great Dane has bone cancer, we where told this 3 yrs ago and at the time he was given 6 months. Due to the cancer he has become thin and someone reported me as starving him, He was removed from my care for 3 days and during the time was put on Tramadol 50mg. I had decided to treat holistically and was managing his pain, since he has been put on the drug he is now listless and can hardly walk. I was told the drug was addictive and that I cant take him off of it cold but that I would have to wean him off of it. I am wondering if he could be addicted in just 3 days as I would rather not give him drugs since he is now worse since he was put on them. Can I stop cold turkey and if not how can I wean him off, no one will tell me as they insist that I am being cruel by choosing to feed him a raw based diet and treat his cancer holistically. Any help, advice or personal experiences would be appreciated. Thanks for all the advice so far, Last night my dog was on the drugs and was very listless and not quite coherent when he went out to pee it was like he had forgot how to walk. I did not give him a pill today and he is now alert, coherent, sitting up on the bed, eating, and went out to the potty with no problems walking. I understand that he is terminal however after witnessing what the drugs where doing to him and seeing him all happy and alert tonight I have made up my mind to do the best to control his pain holistically and enjoy the time we have left. He is very good at letting me know when he is in distress and when the time comes we will do things at home with the family around him, but I am going to let him live as long as he wants too as I know he will let me know when he is ready to go. I know he would not enjoy life as a zombie so I am not going to make him live that way when there are other options out there.

I have chronic pain syndrome, degeneration disease, sciatica, nueropathy, and the kicker is I'm only 43. My doctor wants to start adding methadone to my meds? I have never really heard anything good about methadone. Just that it is addictive, or that addicts use it to kick other drugs. Is is differant when used for pain. I also take Lyrica, Tramadol, Zoloft, and Verapamil.

  • Resolved Question: Why isn't Tramadol considered a narcotic?
About 5 months ago, my mother's doctor prescribed her Tramadol (otherwise known as Ultram) for her severe back pain, telling her that it was non-narcotic and non-addictive so she could take as much as she wanted. She'd been on Tramadol since then, and slowly, her dosages increased. One week ago, she had a seizure, and the doctors at the ER said that Tramadol was what caused it. I looked it up on the Internet, and was shocked to find that apparently, Tramadol is VERY addictive and is known to cause seizures if taken at high dosages. Since Tramadol is an opiate and an addictive drug, why isn't it considered a narcotic and why are people told that it's not addictive and is pretty much harmless when it's prescribed to them??
  • Resolved Question: Uh-Oh, I think I'm hooked on my pain mediction. It's not supposed to be addictive. It's called tramadol and
for mild to severe chronic pain. I have been using it as prescribed for a couple of years and just recently started upping my own dose. I'm up to about 700mg/ day and I'm getting scared. I hope that I can ween myself off of it. But then there is the pain....EEK, can anyone relate? I'm beginning to feel panicky!
