Five weeks ago my 15 year old daughter was struck with excruciating leg pain in her lower left leg. It has since moved to her lower right leg. She characterizes the pain as flares or lightening bolts shooting from her knees through the toes. Sometimes it travels in the opposite direction. She has had multiple tests and we are no closer to discovering the cause. She has been prescribed darvocet, ultram and lyrica, with no alleviation of pain. Every day the pain gets worse. Today she woke up with such pain, she was screaming incomprehensibly -- I actually thought she was having a seizure. She's seen rheumatologists and neurologists and is scheduled to see an infectious dx. specialist and a neuromuscular specialist. I am afraid the pain will drive her mad if we can't get it suppressed. Please any suggestions??

Resolved Question: Old Dog with arthritis in front leg?
My dog is about 14 years old. she cant hear anymore and limps very badly on her front leg. the vet says it arthritis. he suggested a few years ago giving ostoflex. well i did and it didnt help. so i went to him because she is in so much pain. he gave her ultram, and told me to give her a asprin with it, it takes the edge off, because her mood improves, but doesnt take away the pain. i was sick last week and my doctor gave me vicodan, i was giving it to her. She seem better than on the utram but she seemed like she was having breathing problems. Should i ask the vet for something stronger? is there something stronger? i dont want to put her down, we had to put our other dog put down last year because he was having seizures. he was phenobarbial for 5 years.eveytime he had a seizure it was harder for him to come to, the last one we he had brain damage. anyway that was hard, and i said i would never do it again.
Resolved Question: seizure when sleeping?
late last night I couldn't sleep, and took an ultram for toothache, it was around 2:30 am when I finally did goto sleep, I woke up at 2:45 and i thought i dreamt that i had a seizure, it was so real, i remember i kept saying "help" but no words came out, and I also remember shaking alot, and trying to wake up, it seemed like along time but could only have been a few mins, i also saw myself out of my body in the dream or seizure state, i had a blank stare, and was trying to wake up, now im wondering if it was just a dream or I really did have a seizure?? i'm scared to goto sleep in case it happens again, has this ever happened to anyone else? should i call my doctor??
not sure if it is related to anything seizure wise, but my left eye has been twitching for the past month, magnesium sometimes helps.
Resolved Question: Pain Management - How many of you have been called in for pill counts?
I have been in pain mgmt for over 6 months and have yet to be called in (knock on wood). No, I do not take my meds as prescribed as somedays my pain is much worse. I had to go to the ER last week b/c I could not walk due to the pain in my upper back (severe scoliosis and disc disease). I called the clinic and they OK'd me to go as they have in the past. I had to miss my monthly Physical Therapy appointment with the clinic today b/c my car's transmission went out, I have only missed one appointment since my treatment began. Will this raise the red flags, I wonder? I am currently on 20 mg Oxycontin per day but sometimes, I take up to 40 mg. They took me off Ultram, which was used for my breakthrough pain and gave me an extra 15 Oxys (I was dianosed with epilepsy and ultram lowers seizure treshold) and that has messed me up as ultram really helped with my pain.
So, how many of you have been called in for random pill counts? Please don't flame me, thanks :)
Resolved Question: Tramadol/Ultram.....Does anyone out there take this med on a regular basis?
I have read about the risk of seizures from Tramadol, even a risk for people who never had seizures. This scares me. I was wondering if this is really a common problem? Seizures from Tramadol? Is there anyone out there who has taken this med for a long time and NEVER had a seizure from it? I need it for pain but I am so scared to take it after reading all these things about seizure risks. I'm hoping somone with alot of knowlage about this med can give me answers. THANK YOU!
Resolved Question: Should I be worried?
I hurt my back real bad earlier, and went to a walk-in clinic. They gave me a prescription for flexeril and ultram. I got the filled, came home, took them, and am now reading that they shouldnt be taken together because you can have seizures...ive never had seizures before, but should i be worried about this?? The dr and pharmacist never said anything...
Resolved Question: Pain Medications for back pain...?
I have severe lower back pain due to a disabling condition of severe scoliosis and spina bifida. I've had 30 surgeries and am only 27. So, for my pain I have tried gabapentin (anti-seizure medication), amitryptiline (depression medication), ultram and vicodin. I have tried stretches, hot baths, heat, ice, and all of the over the counter meds. Chiropractors say I can't be helped by manipulation. So, my Internal Medicine doc just reffered me to pain management telling me I need a longer acting form of medication. He was describing the fentanyl patch, but I am kind of nervous about using it. My questions are will my new pain doc look at me like I am a "druggie" (Ive never abused pain pills)? And is there anything I can take that is long acting but less strong then fentanyl? Thanks.
These are some great answeres! Very non-judgemental so thank you. It will be very hard to pick a best answere. To the person who mentioned a change in diet, I eat all fresh organic foods, hardly any processed or refined foods. I am scared to do injections, as I have screws and rods in my back. Again I need to know if there are any medications that are not as strong as duragesic but strong enough to block some of the pain.

Resolved Question: Pain!!! What other meds and does anyone know of a good pain doctor in Macon/Warner Robins, GA?
Up until my pregnancy I didn't use medicine; I was diagnosed with depression and put on so many meds as a child that as an adult I refused to take any. However, I started getting strange rashes first (later diagnosed as erythema multiforme), then after delivery began having muscle pains. After taking Depo-provera I began having bad spasms (myoclonic seizures) and debilitating pain (fibromyalgia). I doctor hopped trying to find adequate pain relief and nothing seemed to work. I've had fentanyl (which triggered the rashes), Soma, Flexeril, Ultram, Lortab, Vicodin, Percodan, Oxycodone, you name it. I'd get Demerol shots on a walk-in basis because my flare-ups would have me crying. I'm back in Georgia and on Ultram and it's not helping but I'm too scared to say anything because every time I spoke up I'd end up with ineffective medication. I used Vicodin successfully; it didn't have any horrible side effects and worked really well. The only problem is I don't want to destroy my liver. Help!
Resolved Question: Has anyone suffered from a grand mal seizure due to taking Ultram?
I did. And I ended up with a severe concussion too. But now I am having major memory loss and trouble concentrating and am unable to function normally since that happened. Any suggestions for me or knowledge on this?? p.s. I hit the train rails face first and I did have dentures, but now from the impact of the fall, I have an upper denture broken into 5 peices. And the hospital was very uncaring also?? I don't get any of it?? I am still in alot of pain and am wondering if what I am experiencing is normal??
Resolved Question: Why isn't Tramadol considered a narcotic?
About 5 months ago, my mother's doctor prescribed her Tramadol (otherwise known as Ultram) for her severe back pain, telling her that it was non-narcotic and non-addictive so she could take as much as she wanted. She'd been on Tramadol since then, and slowly, her dosages increased. One week ago, she had a seizure, and the doctors at the ER said that Tramadol was what caused it. I looked it up on the Internet, and was shocked to find that apparently, Tramadol is VERY addictive and is known to cause seizures if taken at high dosages. Since Tramadol is an opiate and an addictive drug, why isn't it considered a narcotic and why are people told that it's not addictive and is pretty much harmless when it's prescribed to them??
Resolved Question: vertigo following seizures ?
vertigo following seizures ?
I had a seizure due to a drug interaction about a month ago, and I am now having severe vertigo and have been since that day. I also have been getting toungue tied easily and slurring my speech?
My stepfather who has epilepsy says that is common but I have never heard of it, is this normal?
the vertigo is so bad that I look like a walking bruise, I literally took out a wall in my house today from falling, this has got to end!
by the way the two medications that "interacted" was ultram (for pain from a fractured ankle) and wellbutrin (for ptsd) that I have took for a few months now.
